An NBA Podcast Hosted by J.P. Carey and Ben Hamilton. We are two huge basketball fans out of MA, which makes us big Celtics fans. This podcast is all about our takes on everything NBA-related, and we try to get episodes out twice a week. If you enjoy an e
The first round has almost wrapped up! We were about as wrong as we could be about the Timberwolves vs Lakers series, but the rest of the series is going about as expected! The Thunder looked phenomenal in their 4 game sweep, and the Celtics and Cavs took care of business in their series, and should beat up on their next opponents. Enjoy!
The Postseason is finally here in the NBA! This episode was recorded before any of the play-in games had taken place. Today, we cover all of the matchups that will be happening in this year's playoffs for each round of the playoffs. At the start of the season, we had Celtics vs Thunder as our expected matchups, and one of us still expects that to happen. The Cavs have had an excellent regular season, and they have an excellent opportunity to prove people wrong and dominate in the playoffs. Enjoy!
The regular season is almost at its end! This has been a phenomenal year and there are some really interesting award battles to watch for. Jokic and SGA are both putting up some unbelievable seasons, with Jokic having a chance to take home his 4th MVP. The ROTY race isn't as exciting as some years, but Risacher and Stephon Castle both deserve love for what they've done this year. This episode, we give our picks for who we believe deserves the award, as well as who we think will end up winning the award. Enjoy!
Welcome back! There has been a lot of conversation in basketball media surrounding the negativity that is constantly a part of the coverage of the sport. We thought today's episode we should go over our favorite parts of this season of the NBA, because there really has been a lot to like. Legends of the game, Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry continue to age gracefully and play at an incredible level, teams all across the league are playing basketball in very different and very creative ways. Negative coverage is full of hot takes and that's how people get their clicks sometimes, but we thought it's equally important to highlight the best parts of the league that we love to watch. Enjoy!
The time has come to discuss the big names that are going to be in the 2026 NBA Draft Class. Cooper Flagg obviously leads the way as the #1 prospect, but guys like Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, and VJ Edgecombe are making their names known as definite top 5 picks. There are some interesting seniors too that will more than likely be picked in the 25-35 range that will absolutely bring value right away. This is still very early in the process, but we love to bring draft analysis and we think this year's draft class will be a powerful one similar to the Wembenyama draft. Enjoy!
This year's trade deadline has been one of the craziest in the history of the league. Luka Doncic being traded to the Lakers is not something anyone would've expected, and the new-look Lakers are going to be an incredible team for years to come. Jimmy Butler got his money and got what he wanted from Miami, ending up in Golden State with a new $120 million extension. Steph Curry gets more health and the Warriors ended up keeping most of the depth that the team had. DeAaron Fox has been traded to San Antonio, and should become a perfect costar next to wemby. This deadline has been an epic one, and we are very excited to see more of each of these new look teams. Enjoy!
The Houston Rockets are proving themselves as a legitimate team to watch out for over the next few years, and Amen Thompson and his play is a large reason why. After his 33/10/4/1/1 performance against the Boston Celtics, it's hard to argue that he's not the best player on the team. The Houston Rockets have a crazy collection of young talent that they can choose to stick with or move for their future, but either way they are in a very good place right now. Kawhi Leonard is back and getting himself into form after missing the first 35 games of the season recouping from yet another knee surgery. The Clippers have looked excellent in his return, and his health over the rest of the season will do a lot to help the Clippers remain above 500 and potentially make some noise in the playoffs. Enjoy!
The rumor mill surrounding Jimmy Butler and his new destination have been brewing for about a month at this point and the Phoenix Suns seem to be in the process of moving pieces in an attempt to acquire him. This would send Bradley Beal to Milwaukee and Khris Middleton to Miami along with a heap of picks being moved around from team to team. Adding Jimmy Butler gives the Phoenix Suns someone that can aggressively attack the rim and might add a new level of depth to what their team can accomplish. Jamal Murray has had some great games as of late, and the Denver Nuggets seem to clearly be the 2nd best team in the West. Also, the 2025 draft is starting to approach, and we have our eyes on a couple notable names, Ace Bailey being one of our most intriguing. Enjoy!
In this episode, we cover the recent 7 game win streak of the Kings after firing Mike Brown, as well as the Cavs-Thunder matchup from a week ago. The Houston Rockets have managed to hold on to the 2 seed, and Amen Thompson has shown his incredible and niche value on this young squad. In Devner, Russell Westbrook is playing his best non-star basketball and the Nuggets have held a top 4 seed. Enjoy!
This year's NBA Cup has wrapped up last night with a strong Milwaukee Bucks victory over the Thunder 97-81. The semifinals and finals of this tournament were very fun games to watch, and the Bucks have turned their early story around and have gone 12-3 in their last 15 games. The Thunder have had an unbelievable defense to this point in the season, but there are some real questions surrounding their offense and what it looks like in the playoffs. We are a quarter way through the NBA Season, so we also wanted to highlight players and teams that have really impressed us this year, as well as players and teams that have really disappointed. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
Nikola Jokic has somehow improved his level of play this year to something that truly does seem GOAT like, averaging 32/13/10 and dragging a sorry Nuggets team towards a playoff spot. If anyone else wins MVP this year it will be a shame, seed be damned. Evan Mobley has finally been empowered to score and create for teammates in all of the ways we wanted to see when he was drafted. He had 41 in the win over the Hornets, hitting 6 threes in that game. Mobley is the key to the Cavs being a team that can match up with the Celtics and genuinely contend for championships. Cooper Flagg discourse has been all over our internet feeds, and the conversation about whether or not this guy deserves the "generational" tag is everywhere. We wanted to give our definition of that term as well as our side of the conversation. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The moment of truth has arrived: The Houston Rockets are the 2 seed in the west and beat the Thunder! Houston has become a legitimate regular season force and their defensive identity is here to stay. Franz Wagner has been the sole talented offensive player for the Orlando Magic since Paolo's oblique injury, and he has done a fantastic job putting the team on his back and scoring beyond what many thought he was capable of. The Milwaukee Bucks had a very poor start to the season but Dame and Giannis seem to be figuring out how to play together better, and Dame is far more consistent on a night to night basis. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The 15-0 Cavs and the Celtics faced off in the first bout of this season's Double Double Bowl, and the Celtics won! Darius Garland had one of the worst games of his career and Jayson Tatum put up 33 pts to lead the Celtics to a very nice win. The rookies did not have a strong start to the season, but over the past 5-6 games we've seen great performances from Jared McCain and Dalton Knecht, two guys who absolutely could win ROTY this year. The sixers are doomed! They have 2 wins so far on the season and they do not seem to be working well together as a unit. Despite McCain's excellent play, Paul George can't be relied upon to score at volume and Embiid can't be relied upon to show up on time! Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
Jokic is putting together an MVP campaign through 10 games that is better than anything he has ever done before: Currently leading the league in Rebounds and Assists per game while averaging 30 pts on 55/56/84 splits. This is a top 15 basketball player of all time dragging a still poorly built team to a 7-3 record. Unbelievable. Zion is out for the remaining future and the future of the Pelicans is in disaster mode. KAT has been playing unbelievable offense for the Knicks, but his defense has been atrocious. The New York Knicks have a tough road ahead trying to figure out how to make this a competent defense. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
Another week in the books for this NBA Season! The Houston Rockets put up an excellent fight against the New York Knicks in their win on Monday, and The Cleveland Cavaliers have tied their franchise best start of the season, starting off 8-0. The Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors have also impressed, only dropping 1 game so far each. And then we have Milwaukee. The Bucks are tied for the worst record in the NBA, and Giannis and Dame are averaging a combined 59ppg. Doc Rivers is maybe the worst coach the NBA has left, I can't see him remaining in the head coaching spot by the end of the year. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The NBA Season has started off to a very entertaining start through one week so far. The Celtics and Cavs are both 4-0 to start the season, with the OKC Thunder right behind them at 3-0. The Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets are struggling mightily in their own ways and its hard to see either team fully digging themselves out of the holes their teams are filled with. The Pacers stink! Tyrese Haliburton is a fraud and Rick Carlisle deserves daily fines until he is willing to instill Jarace Walker into the rotation. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The NBA Season is almost here! In this episode, we break down our picks for each regular season award for the upcoming NBA Season, as well as choosing who we expect to go to the Finals and who will be the Champions. This is the first year in a while that we've had pretty different picks across the board for basically every award. Zach Edey is a rookie that has generated quite the controversy, and we find ourselves on very different ends of that discussion. Our finals prediction is Celtics vs Thunder, and we end this episode debating a bit about some of the players on each team and how they stack up to each other. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The Western Conference Breakdown is here! In this episode, we go from the 15 seed to the 1 seed and give you our predictions for where every team is going to be placed. This is a list that we agreed upon together, and our lists have some slight differences (I am much higher on the Houston Rockets). The West is stacked this year, and regular season seeding will come down to more than just 'Who has the best player on the floor'. Teams like The Clippers and Warriors rely very heavily on guys that have dealt with their fair share of injury concerns, and their seeding will probably reflect that. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
This year's Eastern Conference Breakdown is here! We like to do one of these every season as we get close to the start of the season, and we start with the East. This episode, we start at the 15 seed and give you our predictions for each seed for the upcoming regular season. The 2024 NBA Draft Class is probably the least respected class out of any year that I have been paying serious attention to basketball. Despite the lack of obvious All-NBA talent, there are still a lot of fun players in this draft, and a lot of players that should fit pretty well in their respective teams. We have had plenty of discussion about the Big Man prospect off the podcast, today we wanted to bring our thoughts on Kel'el Ware, Donovan Clingan, Zach Edey, and Alex Sarr, and the ways that their play will compare and contrast in the season. The ROTY race isn't as clear cut as it usually is, and we have our own picks for who we expect to win that award. We are starting to fully deep dive into all of these prospects, and with that we felt like we needed to come on the podcast and give our Big Picture thoughts. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
We are back with an offseason episode! We have not made much content over this offseason, but today we wanted to come together and talk about some of the narratives for this upcoming season that we are the most invested in. The Houston Rockets added another great piece to a really interesting team, and I fully expect them to surprise people. The Nuggets have some high expectations for their $208 million man Jamal Murray, as do the Cavs with Evan Mobley. Orlando has done some great work slowly building the team into one that can contend in 3-4 years, and this year's draft and offseason were excellent for them. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
This year's rookie class might have gotten a lot less buzz than in previous years, but a lot of them have had stand out performances through summer league so far. Matas Buzelis seems like a sneaky ROTY finalist, Reed Sheppard has been unstoppable, and many other rookies look like they'll impact their teams right away. The Win Projections for each team has been released, and there are some projections that stand out in a big way. OKC Thunder Over seems like the freest bet of them all, but look to The Celtics, Knicks, and Hornets as some other teams to consider smashing the over on. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The free agency pool might not be as exciting this year as in some year's past, but there have been some great moves already made to start off the offseason. Paul George joins Embiid and Maxey to create a pretty formidable big 3 in philly if they can all stay healthy. Dejounte Murray has found a new home in New Orleans, and Klay Thompson signs a 3 year deal to join the Mavs. Chris Paul has also been traded to the Spurs, which should give them a pretty excellent bench point guard. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The 2024 NBA Draft has come and gone! People might not want to hype up this draft, but there are a bunch of prospects in this draft that could have very long and successful NBA careers. In this episode, we break down the first round of the NBA draft and give our opinion on all the notable picks. The Celtics have won the championship!!! Jaylen Brown takes home Finals MVP in a 5 game series that saw some incredible defense and some must watch bucket making from the Celtics starting 5. With the same core coming back next season, the Celtics should be seen as title favorites for next season as well --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The Boston Celtics have had very little struggles through this playoff run, and The Finals have shown to be no different. This episode was recorded with the Celtics up 2-0 after two strong jaylen brown performances and heavy struggles from the Dallas crew. The Finals are almost here! With the Mavs wrapping up game 5 last night, the Celtics and Mavs will face off in the Finals, and one of Luka or Jayson Tatum will walk away with their first ring. The Mavs have shown incredible resilience battling through three really strong western conference teams, but the Celtics should be getting a healthy Kristaps Porzingis back for Game 1. This series should be a nail biter, I have Celtics in 7. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The Minnesota Timberwolves accomplished one of the greatest comebacks in playoff history yesterday coming back from down 20 to beat the Nuggets in Denver and move on to the second round. The OKC-Mavs series has also been decided, and Chet Holmgren's 3PT shooting and rebounding helped lead to the Thunder's Demise. The Pacers vs Celtics looks like a 3-point shooting barrage, but still a series that Indiana will struggle to make competitive. The 2024 Draft Lottery was announced yesterday, and the Atlanta Hawks lucked into the 1st overall pick. This year's draft is being labeled one of the worst in years, and a #1 pick doesn't really net you a franchise altering player. Round 2 is about halfway through for each series, and the Nuggest and Pacers have both surprised people by tieing their series at 2-2. Denver and Minnesota seem to be some of the strongest team in the entire league right now, and its very likely the winner of that series is the winner of the championship. This episode, we give Big Picture thoughts on Round 2 so far and how we think these series will wrap up. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
The Cavs won their first round series! After an entertaining 7 game series, The Cavs get to face a rested Boston Celtics team. The Timberwolves Defense looks incredible, and Anthony Edwards looks like a top 5 player in the NBA. The way that he is able to score in the clutch has been incredible to watch, and the Timberwolves seem to have real Championship chances. Round 2 has some very interesting matchups, and this episode breaks down our thoughts on how each one will go. 4 games have been played in each first round series so far, with the TWolves and Thunder both being able to sweep their series. Game 1 has been played for each series in this year's NBA Playoffs. Some teams, like the Timberwolves and Clippers, have really impressed in their opening games. We are at the point in the NBA season where the only thing to do is wait in anticipation of the playoffs. In this episode, we look back at the predictions that we made to start this season, and which ones have aged the best and the worst. The All-Star Weekend took place in Indy this weekend, and the reviews were not great. The 3pt Shootout was the highest-rated part of the weekend and probably the most exciting. On the flipside, countless people are complaining about the competitiveness of the different challenges, as well as the All-Star game itself. In this episode, we go over how the NBA could improve the watchability of All-Star weekend, and how to get the players to play hard during the all-star game. We also go over some Big Picture talk about some of the teams who could improve their standings in a big way next season, as well as some talk about Scoot Henderson and his struggles. The NBA Trade Deadline wrapped up last week, and although there were no major stars moved, some teams absolutely made important improvements to the team. In this episode, we break down the biggest trades that happened around the deadline, and what each player brings to their new team. We also talk about Wembanyama's ridiculous 27/14/5/10 statline, and what the future of the Spurs is going to look like. With Draymond's return, the Warriors have looked like a much more competent team, with Kuminga emerging as the best wing on the team. Kawhi and The Clippers have been on an absolute tear over the last 30 games, going 24-6 in that time with Kawhi averaging 26 pts on 55/50/90 shooting splits. The Clippers look like the biggest threat in the West outside of the Nuggets. This episode, we cover some of the recent NBA news, including some talk about potential trade moves to expect as the deadline approaches, as well as some thoughts on the all-star selections and the players who have been snubbed. The Cleveland Cavaliers are about to be at full strength for the first time since Evan Mobley and Darius Garland first went down with their injuries. Joel Embiid is having one of the craziest statistical seasons of all time, and will almost certainly not be eligible to win this year's MVP award due to not playing 65 games Despte making the trade for Terry Rozier, the Miami Heat have not been able to win games recently. Their struggles might spell trouble for them in the playoffs, but they are a team known for overcoming those obstacles. Only 43 games into his head coaching career, Adrian Griffin has been fired and the Milwaukee Bucks have replaced him with Doc Rivers. Doc Rivers is historically known for underperforming and blowing leads in the Finals, and yet somehow this seems like an upgrade. OKC has managed to grab the 1 seed, and there are 5 other teams that sit at the 30 win mark already. The trade deadline approaches, and we will certainly have more moves to talk about as it does. Pascal Siakam has been traded to the Indiana Pacers! The Pacers were able to acquire an All-NBA caliber wing to put next to Haliburton without gutting their team, and Siakam seems to be interested in staying in Indiana long term. There are some other key players who have been involved in Trade rumors: Lauri Markaanen, Zach Lavine, and the entire Golden State roster to name a few. To end the episode, we came up with a bunch of different mock trades for these players and a bunch of others that we think could seriously improve some teams across the league. In today's episode, we go over some Big Picture NBA questions that we've been coming up with as we watch this season play out. Monty Williams this offseason became the highest paid coach in the NBA, and with that came strong expectations about the future of the Pistons franchise. Safe to say, those expectations don't exist anymore. The Timberwolves have the best defense in the NBA, but an offensive rating that hovers around the middle of the pack. Can a team like that win a chip? We love having these Big Picture conversations and we hope you enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedoubledoublepod/support
We're only about a third of the way through the NBA season, but we have seen some excellent play out of this year's rookie class. Wemby and Chet will fight for ROTY all year, but other rookies have stood out quickly as impactful players. Jaime Jaquez, Keyonte George, Brandon Miller, and plenty others. This episode, we go through the first round of the 2023 draft and give a review on how each rookie has played so far, and what they have excelled at and struggled with. Accidental late upload! In this episode, we'll be giving our award picks for each award for the first quarter of the season. This episode was recorded about a week ago, so some games have been played since, but our picks for each award haven't changed. Some of these awards are definitely still toss ups, but I would be very surprised if someone was able to beat Joel Embiid's case for MVP this year. ROTY seems to be a two-headed snake with Chet and Wemby, and it's too early to say how that award will look when the season ends. After the 0-6 start when first acquiring James Harden, the Clippers have been on a tear recently and have seemed to figure out how to best utilize Harden's iso-scoring ability. Kawhi Leonard has played every game this season and is looking incredible in his last 15 games. The Celtics and the Timberwolves are the first teams to reach 20 wins, both getting there with only 5 losses. Ja Morant returns tonight to play the Pelicans, and his play should quickly bring the Grizzlies back into the fold to compete with the rest of the West. The In-Season tournament was a massive success for the NBA, and the final games were must watch TV. Tyrese Haliburton continues to put his name alongside the superstars of the NBA with his incredible playmaking, and the longevity of Lebron James is something that cannot be understated at this point in his career. These teams might not be title contenders, but their tournament play was incredible and it got people interested in basketball in november! The Orlando Magic and OKC Thunder both find themselves the 2 seed in their conference, and neither team has many moves to make in order to really be a staple in their conference moving forward. Embiid's averaging 6.4 assists a game so far this season, and is passing at a level that we have never seen from him. Nick Nurse deserves a ton of credit, but Embiid's playmaking leap could make the Sixers a serious contender once the playoffs start. This episode, we'll be breaking down some of the recent play in the NBA, including the excellent play of Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton has helped lead the Pacers to one of the best offenses in the league so far and has made the Pacers a Must Watch team. Victor Wembanyama is such a fun player to watch but the Spurs as a whole are not playing competitive basketball. James Harden and the Clippers finally manage to win a game off the back of a strong Harden performance. The Houston Rockets started the season very out of sorts through their first three games, but the 6 game win streak they have gone on has us very impressed. Alperen Sengun has grown on both ends of the ball, and new additions FVV and Dillon Brooks have been doing their jobs very well. Anthony Edwards is starting this season playing like a top 10 player in the league. The two-way impact is amazing, and the peaks that he can hit offensively are unstoppable. Philly has managed to snatch the 1 seed in the East, with Tyrese Maxey emerging as one of the most promising young stars in the league. Welcome back to our Trends and Dead Ends podcast! Every year, we take a look at some of the surprising trends to come out of the beginning of the NBA season, and we go over which ones we expect to continue (Trend), and which we expect to change (Dead End). Some teams, like the Bucks and Grizzlies, have struggled a lot more than people expected to start the season. While teams like the Magic and Hawks look great early. There is still plenty of time for these narratives to change, but it's fun to take an early look at how the season is shaping up and make predictions. The NBA Season is finally here, and we've already seen some great moments from our rookie class. Brandon Miller looks great to start the year, better than many people expected him to look. The Celtics start the season 2-0, and the starting 5 looks incredible right out of the gate. I expected the Houston Rockets to be a competitive team and fun to watch, and so far they look to be the same dysfunctional team as they've been for years. It's too early to make any bold claims about the season, but there are trends that we'll certainly have to keep our eyes on.
