Oxidative Priority is the order in which your body burns fuel and this is important for understanding how your body burns fat (or doesn't burn fat). This is the order it prioritizes: 1. Alcohol 2. Exogenous Ketones 3. Carbs (sugar) 4. Protein (IF you need to make sugar, but it's not your body's preferred way to use it) 5. Fat This means you have to get through quite a bit of fuel before your body utilizes fat. Most people don't realize that the primary role of leptin is to regulate body fat. It is the major hormone that determines hunger, fat burning and fat storage. Fifty days after Easter (Pentecost) is the day the apostles received the Power of the Holy Spirit. Their Purpose was clear: get out and spread the good news of Jesus Christ. How did they do this Kingdom work? With their bodies. They traveled with their legs and feet. They spoke truth with their tongues. They used their arms and hands to hug, heal and baptize. Christianity wouldn't exist without them. And it won't exist without you and your body continuing to share and live out the Gospel. THIS is why we take care of ourselves. After 10+ years of being gluten-free, I recently experimented with eating bread made with freshly milled, organic wheat. This is different from wheat flour you buy in the store which has been stripped of key nutrients and, as this week's guest explains, is the real reason so many people cannot tolerate wheat. When you grind it yourself and bake it fresh, it retains an extremely high nutrient profile including B vitamins, Vitamin E, beneficial fiber and more. After educating people for over 30 years on the benefits of milling, baking and eating real wheat, Sue Becker has seen miraculous turnarounds in people's health and believes a major contribution to modern illness and disease started with the mass processing of flour in the early 1900's. In this week's episode, Sue explains how modernly processed wheat (which basically leaves only the gluten and the starch) is the true culprit but that eating wheat with the fullness of its nutrients intact is one of the most healing foods God provides. I recently had an extensive body ultrasound after some “hot spots” came back on my thermography scan. It picked up some inflammation in my neck area and I wasn't sure if it was my carotid artery, thyroid or something else. I had only planned on having the ultrasound scan on my neck but took the advice to have a more extensive look. I'm SO glad I did! He looked at my heart, breasts, kidneys, adrenals, pancreas, spleen, intestines and so much more. Turns out my carotid artery is fine, my thyroid is ok, but there are a few other things he found that I wouldn't know about had I not done the full body scan. It was a very interesting and eye opening experience and part of what made it so great was my brilliant technician and all of the little tidbits he shared during the 1.5 hour appointment. Seasonal transitions are a perfect time for a detox. The winter to spring transition, in particular, naturally encourages fasting, burning fat and releasing toxins. Winter is a higher fat and protein focused (more animal based) season of the year because there's less plant life available when it's freezing outside. It's also a more natural time to fast longer because the daytime is shorter. That will change on the other side of spring when the plants are growing and it's naturally a time for more carbohydrates and less fasting because there is more light. This all coincides beautifully with the season of Lent. Nature mirrors the physical way we move through this starker season before the new growth, light and life of spring in the same way we spiritually move toward the light and life of our resurrected Savior.
