I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 11th of May, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Deuteronomy 4:24: “For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.” Then we go to the New Testament, to the Book of Matthew 22:37: “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' ” This is straightforward, and it is very serious. The Lord says, “There is no other God but Me.” We cannot serve any other god and expect to serve the Lord Jesus Christ as well. I want to say something very seriously this morning. We must never tease God. Do you know what I mean? I mean if you get a young man and a young lady and they go out, and the young lady thinks that if she teases her boyfriend, then he will love her more, or even more seriously, a husband and wife - if the husband starts to look around and play the fool with another woman and then think that his wife will love him more, it actually works in the opposite. It puts a wedge and a division of mistrust in their relationship. Now, the same thing applies with the Lord. The Lord says, “There will be no other gods but Me.” And we need to understand that. I want to ask you a question. Is there any other god that you know of who has died for his people? No, there is no other god, only Jesus Christ who came to earth, He died for our sins that we might be saved. Now, the least we can do is put Him as the most important Person in our lives.I want to tell you, as I am getting older, each day I love Him more intensely. When I think of what He has done for a wretched soul like me. That is why John Newton could write that wonderful hymn, Amazing Grace: “I once was lost but now I am found, was blind but now I see.” Today, understand one thing. There is no second, third or fourth god in your life. It has to be Jesus Christ, Him, first and foremost, and then secondly, your loved one, your wife, your husband, your child, but Jesus first.God bless you as you put Him first in your life today.Goodbye

What does it mean to truly invest in the next generation? In this powerful message, Jacob unpacks what it looks like to have strong, available, and faithful shoulders for the young people around you — using a simple but unforgettable moment of lifting his son up to a basketball hoop as the entry point.Drawing from 1 Timothy 4:12, Mark 10, and Matthew 11, this sermon explores three types of shoulders the next generation needs from us: strong shoulders that call them up, faith shoulders that make room for them to encounter Jesus, and shoulders yoked to Jesus that are healed and formed through intimacy with God.You'll be challenged to reflect on the condition of your own heart — whether life's circumstances have made it old, hardened, or guarded — and invited to receive rest and renewal from Jesus before you pour into others.Whether you're a parent, teacher, coach, pastor, or mentor, this message is for anyone who wants to leave a legacy that goes beyond what they accumulate and extends to who they lift up.Big Idea: True legacy is not what you leave behind — it's who you lift up.0:00 - Introduction: Basketball, Kids & Lifting Them Up 1:55 - The Bigger Picture: Standing on Someone Else's Shoulders 2:38 - Big Idea: True Legacy Is Who You Lift Up3:54 - Biblical Examples of Passing the Torch 4:40 - Strong Shoulders: Call the Next Generation Up 5:03 - Paul's Letter to Timothy (1 Timothy 4:12) 6:39 - Correction With Calling vs. Correction That Crushes 7:02 - Practical Challenge: Speak Life Over Someone Younger 8:18 - Faith Shoulders: Make Room for the Next Generation 8:36 - Jesus and the Children (Mark 10) 10:19 - The Kingdom of God Belongs to Such as These 10:37 - Has Life Made Your Heart Old? 11:25 - Young at Heart: A Story From the Bahamas 13:43 - Wonder, Trust & the Childlike Kingdom of God 14:36 - Receiving From the Father vs. Achieving for the Father 16:26 - LVC Kids: Discipling, Not Babysitting 17:22 - Honoring Teachers: Your Influence Changes Legacies 18:23 - Youth Ministry & Creating Belonging for Teenagers19:41 - Strong Shoulders Must Be Yoked to Jesus 20:03 - Your Shoulders Are Only as Strong as Your Intimacy With God 20:52 - For Those Who Never Had Shoulders to Stand On 21:45 - Jesus Invites the Weary to Come (Matthew 11) 24:05 - Jesus Wants to Work In You, Not Just Through You 25:33 - Why Daily Time With God Matters 28:17 - Whatever Is Forming You Will Flow Through You 29:19 - We Pass Down What We Carry 30:12 - Jesus Wants to Be Part of Your Life, Not Just Use It 30:44 - Let Jesus Heal Your Shoulders 31:27 - Altar Call: Bringing Your Tired, Wounded Shoulders to Jesus 32:07 - Come to Simon (Coming to Jesus First) 32:43 - Closing PrayerSupport the showMade a decision to follow Jesus? In Ezra 3, the people of God gather to rebuild the Temple. Despite their fears, they prioritize God's presence and are able to finish the altar to consecrate themselves back to God. But some are disappointed. Rather than looking ahead to what God might do, they looked back to compare their current situation with their preferred past. As we continue to build our future, we want to prioritize Jesus and His presence, even when facing fear or disappointment. Being “Jesus-First” means we give, pray, serve, and worship for God's presence alone, not our progress.

In this message, we are called to love one another as a “Jesus First” church. This means our highest loyalty is to His command to love, rising above our political parties and cultural tribes. We can do this by engaging in both personal and interpersonal practices. Personally, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we develop the capacity to love, the character to endure, and the spiritual "muscle" to follow Jesus. Interpersonally, we treat the neighbor, the stranger, and the enemy with the love we have cultivated personally. Love actually "works”: it is effective, it heals, and it changes things where politics and coercion fail. But love is also "work”: it requires the interpersonal practices of the Jesus Way. Who will we choose to love at NBCC?
You've probably been there. A friend posts something. You see it. Your jaw tightens. You want to say something. And then something in you breaks loose and you do.Pastor Emil and Mike Hughes talk through what happens when politics starts costing you the people who matter. Emil shares the moment a heated Facebook thread with a fellow pastor made him realize he was treating his faith like ammunition and his friends like targets. The politics was loud. The gospel was nowhere in sight. They dig into what it actually looks like to humanize someone you think is wrong, why both sides of the aisle have reduced real people to caricatures, and how staying in relationship across disagreement might be the most countercultural thing a Christian can do right now. This is not about surrendering conviction. It's about remembering who you're supposed to be before the next news cycle hits. The Jesus First. Politics Second. 21-day workbook is built for exactly this kind of moment. This Sunday at Living Hope Fellowship, Pastor Derek continued our study through Colossians, preaching from Colossians 1:15–23. The message centered on a powerful truth: nothing and no one can come before or beside Jesus. In this passage, we see that Jesus is not simply important—He is preeminent. He is fully God, the One through whom and for whom all things were created, and the One who is redeeming all of creation. Pastor Derek walked through three key truths about Christ: • Jesus is God • We were created by Jesus and for Jesus • Jesus is redeeming creation We were also reminded that: Jesus is first Jesus went first Jesus must be put first The sermon concluded with three important questions for reflection: • Is Jesus important in my life, or is He truly first? • What gets my first and my best? • Am I listening to and obeying Jesus? As we continue through Colossians, this message challenges us to examine whether Christ truly holds the central place in our lives.

This Sunday, Pastor Derek continued our study through the book of Colossians with a message titled “The Why to Our What” from Colossians 1:1–14. The central truth was clear: Christ must be preeminent in our faith. Big Idea: Christ must be preeminent for our faith to be relevant. Walking verse by verse through the opening of Colossians, we were reminded that: When Christ is preeminent, the believer has identity (Col. 1:1–2, 14) When Christ is preeminent, the gospel has power (Col. 1:3–8) When Christ is preeminent, life has meaning (Col. 1:9–11) When Jesus is preeminent, worship gets real (Col. 1:12–14) Everything in the Christian life flows from keeping Jesus first. This message calls us back to the foundation of our faith—making Christ not just present, but prominent in every area of our lives. If you missed Sunday, we invite you to listen and be encouraged.

In this final message based on Frank Viola's "Hang On, Let Go: What to Do When Your Dreams Are Shattered and Life Is Falling Apart" (Carol Stream, IL: Tyndale Momentum, 2021) Pastor Dan reminds us the crisis you're walking through isn't meant to destroy you—it's meant to transform you. God isn't trying to get you back to "normal." Normal is what got you here. He's the Architect of your crisis, and He's been working toward an "End Result" all along: making Jesus first in every area of your life. Romans 8:28-30 isn't just a comfort verse—it's your roadmap. The "good" God is working toward isn't a better job or easier circumstances. It's conforming you to the image of His Son. Version 1.0 of you relied on self-control and panic. Version 2.0 reflects the character and peace of Jesus. You can't move forward while clutching the past. Philippians 3:13-14 calls us to forget what lies behind and strain toward what's ahead. The prize isn't a problem-free life—it's Christ in you, the hope of glory. This week, ask yourself: "If Jesus is truly first in this situation, what's my very next move?"

Christmas reminds us that Jesus often shows up in ways we don't expect. Many of us struggle with faith not because we doubt God's existence, but because He hasn't met the expectations we placed on Him. This message invites us to lay down those expectations and discover who Jesus truly is—and why that changes everything.

Are you putting Jesus first in everything you do? In this powerful message, we explore what it truly means to live with a "Jesus First" posture in every area of life—your job, your finances, your health, and your relationships. Drawing from the example of Moses in Numbers chapter 12, we discover why God said Moses was "faithful in all my household" and how God spoke with him face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend. We also examine how Jesus modeled putting God first throughout His earthly ministry, and how Paul declared in Galatians 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." You might have heard the phrase "AI First" in business circles—the idea of approaching every task through the lens of artificial intelligence. But long before technology arrived, God established what it means to put Him first in all things. This message will challenge you to maintain a Jesus First posture by keeping your eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of your faith, rather than on the chaos of the world around you. Consider Jesus, invest in your relationship with Him, and watch how your perspective on everything begins to change.
Pastor Jeff Sparkman wraps up our Jesus First Series with the last word of the year, “Times of refreshing, renewal, and rest”. A big part of returning to your first love is about the rhythms of life and how to live with purpose, less distraction, and less busyness. The goal of this message is to stir us all to make some adjustments to our daily and weekly rhythms, and to experience a refreshing in the Lord in times of prayer!
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 20th of November, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Gospel of Matthew 6:33. Jesus says: ”But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” What a beautiful scripture! Seek first the kingdom. First thing in the morning, that's the time, seek the face of the Lord. Get your directions for the day, and then you will have a pleasant, successful and peaceful day.John Bunyan was the man who wrote the fantastic book called “The Pilgrim's Progress”. They say it's maybe the most read book of all time, next to the Bible itself. A beautiful story. He spent most of his life in jail because of his stand for Jesus Christ. Now he says, and I quote, ”He who runs from God in the morning will scarcely find Him the rest of the day.” Basically, if you don't have a quiet time in the morning, you will never catch up right through the day. Come on, let's be honest. We need to change those principles now, and we need to put Jesus first every morning and then the rest of the day will go well. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, And His righteousness, And all these things shall beAdded unto you. Halleluh, Hallelujah. Halleluja, Halleluja,Halleluja, Halleluh, Halleluja.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.

Preeminence: Jesus First, Spouse Second Justin Domino October 5, 2025 by New Hope Community Church
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says we are to seek God, but he goes on to say that we are to seek him “first.” This is a matter of priority. We all seek something. We might seek opportunity, position, resources, and open doors. We could seek pleasure, enjoyment, comfort, success, and fulfillment. We might seek friendship, family, and connection. We all seek something, but Jesus said that for those who would follow him, we must seek God and his kingdom first.Main Points:1. To seek is to pursue, to look for, to desire to obtain, and to discover. 2. Today is a good day to ask ourselves some important questions: Is Jesus in first place in our lives? In all of our seeking, are we seeking God first? Is there practical, everyday evidence that we are putting God first in our lives?3. Your life and mine are filled with worry. We live with a certain amount of anxiety about our needs being met. Let's focus on this powerful promise from Jesus. If we begin to seek God first in our lives, God is faithful to meet all of our needs.Today's Scripture Verses:Matthew 6:33 - “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”1 Chronicles 22:19 - “Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God.”Colossians 3:1-2 - “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”Psalm 34:10 - “…those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
