This episode features the remarkable story of Mimi Morgan, a 70-year-old woman who overcame multiple severe health conditions through dietary changes. Despite battling rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson's disease, and life-threatening infections, Mimi defied medical expectations and regained her health. For decades, Mimi followed trendy low-fat, plant-based diets, which she now believes contributed to her declining health. After being hospitalized multiple times and told she had little hope for recovery, Mimi decided to radically change her approach to food. She adopted a high-fat, low-carb diet, eventually transitioning to a carnivore and then a "lion diet" consisting primarily of animal products.Within months of changing her diet, Mimi began experiencing significant improvements in her symptoms. She was able to wean herself off all medications and regain her mobility and energy. Now at 70, Mimi feels healthier than ever before and is training to walk 500 miles across Spain.Mimi's story highlights the potential impact of nutrition on health and challenges conventional medical wisdom about managing chronic diseases. Her experience suggests that dietary changes may offer hope for some patients facing seemingly intractable health conditions.NOTABLE QUOTE"I'm just continuing training for my 500 mile walk and trying to, you know, share my story and hopefully give people hope, but especially the older ones, you know, the So many are told, I mean, I've heard it a gazillion times, you're over 60, of course this hurts. Today's Guest & Resource Links: https://www.elo.health/https://www.linkedin.com/in/aritulla/ Timestamped Show Notes: 00:30 - Introduction11:15 - It's also powerful in a way that, I became a believer of the idea of food as medicine. I always remind myself that I wake up, the kids are here, because food was medicine. We would not have done that. We would not have, they would not be here. So, I mean, it's pretty powerful for them. They don't know the story yet.20:00 - Some of them actually are facts that you need to listen, it just took time to find the right people to start implementing the implementers, whether it be engineers, or just people who just decided to execute on the on the game plan and figure it out. All of a sudden we apply these discoveries that weren't fully applied, they were implemented before.32:45 - That's the point about this idea that we are looking at, you know, 12-13 biomarkers today on blood. Normally we think about blood biomarkers, we can think about, maybe sweat, but you can also think about digital biomarkers, like sleep and weight data, and your HRV and your activity, your heart rate, and many other things. So, one thing that we are trying to do a lot every day, is to really focus on understanding. How do we master nutrition? How do we build these things that are going to help you make that behavior change stick? 41:30 - So it's so interesting, it's why we alone, we talk about the nutrition problem, and we work today in a world of supplements and powders and stuff like that. It doesn't mean we are going to stop there, we're going to go into into food fairly quickly. But while we did start with the supplements, for example, I think it's mind boggling and many people don't know the fact that 20 million people in this country are taking supplements every day.57:30 - In the bag, what we are sending to people and is handed back to that person, is blended specifically for that person. We have worked with really, really good people on the backend to make it scalable. This is something that has never really been done before. So every product we do, we try to be able to customize the protein, literally every protein bag we put out is gonna be different for that customer.01:03:45 - Final Words Shown Below… Our Final Words of the Show: I think for me, the really the big thing is that the smart nutrition is something that you know, I believe it can become a real thing. Like a smartphone. What if we, now in the next decade, we invent this concept and take it further not us, but you know, hundreds of people, 1000 people, you know, hundreds of companies are gonna I hope adopt this idea. What if we, what if this becomes like a smartphone? What if half the people adopt smart interest and products that come from this world?...

In this episode, Angelique Panagos, a nutritional therapist from the UK, joins the show to chat about the topics of hormones, digestion, and blood sugar health. Angelique shares that blood sugar is the cornerstone of her work as it significantly impacts energy levels, hormonal symptoms, mental clarity, and overall quality of life. She emphasizes the importance of balancing blood sugar levels to help reverse hormonal conditions and improve people's quality of life. This episode provides valuable insights into the role of nutrition in promoting overall health and wellness. Tune in for a conversation about the benefits of functional medicine and how it can help clients effectively manage various health conditions.Balancing Blood Sugar LevelsMaintaining balanced blood sugar levels is essential for optimal health and well-being. Nutritional therapist Angelique Panagos believes that balancing blood sugar levels is the cornerstone of her work and is vital for improving people's quality of life. When our blood sugar levels become unbalanced, it can lead to various issues, from hormonal imbalances and digestive problems to poor mental clarity and low energy. When working with clients, Angelique analyzes their diets for refined carbohydrates, sugary foods, long periods without eating, and caffeine. She also requests a food and mood diary to understand their eating habits and mood changes. Nutritional therapists can help identify imbalances and create a plan to achieve balanced blood sugar levels, emphasizing the importance of paying attention to our diets.Reduce Stress and Eat BetterOne of the most common mistakes that can lead to poor blood sugar levels is eating desserts for breakfast. Clever marketing has tricked many people, making identifying healthy food choices difficult. Eating processed foods and sugary snacks can also lead to poor blood sugar levels. Modern life often causes stress, which can harm our health and affect our blood sugar levels. To minimize stress, taking time for self-care is crucial, along with being mindful of our diets. Practicing self-care and eating a balanced diet can improve our overall health and well-being.Make Lifestyle Changes To Balance HormonesOne of the most important things we can do to improve our health is to make lifestyle changes to balance our hormones. Hormones are crucial for our overall health and well-being, and when they are out of balance, they can significantly impact our physical and mental health.Hormonal imbalances can affect stress hormones, sex hormones, and thyroid hormones, causing various symptoms such as tiredness, irritability, and hair loss. To balance hormones, we need lifestyle changes such as reducing stress, eating a balanced diet, and practicing self-care. The Biden-Harris Administration's hunger, nutrition, and health strategy answers the call for a multisector, concerted, and committed approach to improving the nation's health. I look forward to the day when hunger and food insecurity will no longer be a policy imperative." Janice Phillips is a nurse and public policy advocate. On September 28, 2022, the White House hosted a landmark conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, the first of its kind in over 50 years. Previously in 1969, a similar White House conference dramatically shifted and shaped the direction of our nutrition guidelines and federal food support programs. There is hope that this convening in 2022 will lead to the development of a national strategy around our nation's most pressing food challenges.   We are sharing with you today a sampling of the conference. Our show features the panel I moderated, “Evidence to Action: Using research to guide policy and scale pilots.” On the panel, I'm joined by:   Swati Chandra, Director of the Los Angeles County Food Equity Roundtable,   Dr. Angela Odoms-Young, the Nancy Schlegel Meinig Associate Professor of Maternal and Child Nutrition and the Director of the Food and Nutrition Education in Communities Program at Cornell University   And Ross Wilson, the Executive Director of the Shah Family Foundation, a foundation in Boston focused on education, health care and community.   I want to thank the Biden-Harris White House for letting us share this event with our listeners.   You can watch the full White House Conference here: https://health.gov/our-work/nutrition-physical-activity/white-house-conference-hunger-nutrition-and-health/conference-streaming/   Biden-Harris Administration National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, Released September 2022: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/White-House-National-Strategy-on-Hunger-Nutrition-and-Health-FINAL.pdf    A Fact Sheet on new White House commitments related to hunger, nutrition, and health can be found here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/09/28/fact-sheet-the-biden-harris-administration-announces-more-than-8-billion-in-new-commitments-as-part-of-call-to-action-for-white-house-conference-on-hunger-nutrition-and-health/

This episode of the Hormone Genius is on Ketogenic nutrition and health. This is a big topic and can elicit feelings regarding how to approach nutrition. Jamie and Teresa are very aware of this and hope that this will be more of an educational experience on why a KETO approach to nutrition even exists. Teresa has personal experience with living a Ketogenic lifestyle, as well as reasons why approaching nutrition and understanding how we burn energy is important to all peoples health. This is also not meant to explain how to actually live a keto lifestyle. This episode instead, is meant to improve your understanding of how KETO can be a tool used by some individuals with doctor counsel to improve health.  For those of you who have struggled with weight, an eating disorder, or in general loving your body, we understand and want you to know that there is a pathway that is healthy and holistic for each one of you.  See our previous episode on Body Image, https://soundcloud.com/thehormonegenius/ep-28-body-image-and-being-your-authentic-self. You deserve to love your body and we want to support all women in this journey. There is no one way to live a holistic lifestyle, nor one nutritional space that is all right, or all wrong. So, discern well and take this information if anything to increase your understanding of this scientific approach to health. Teresa does not proclaim to be a foremost expert on Ketogenics, but is passionate about empowering others to learn what she has, in regards to the science of energy burning. We have provided below resources for more learning more from trusted physicians and scientists.
