Well, it's been a year since the first 'Red Flags' episode dropped, so it would seem that it's long past time we bring you the next instalment. This time around, we're taking a look back at The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), directed by Martin Scorcese. As we did on the first 'Red Flags' episode with American Psycho (2000), we look at the movie for what it is as well as through the potential (or in this case, quite probable) toxic lens used by a significant portion of the film's audience. Then, after the discussion, we go through our 5 analytical questions regarding the lasting red flag status of the film. Ahhhhhhh! One feels like a duck splashing around in all this wet, and when one feels like a duck, one is happy! (ouuuu....duckling). Welcome back to the Feature Length Podcast! A podcast where 3 friends forget to upload any new content for 3 months. Fear not, loyal fans, we have returned!! After lots of time spent catching up, we delve into all things John Mulaney, thanks to the release of his newest Netflix special Baby J (2023). Did we like it? Is John Mulaney problematic now? Does Batman come up in conversation?? Will you have to wait another 3 months for new spicy hot content? Listen to this episode to find out..... (yes, aren't we all, of course, no).
Hello all! The FLP humbly brings you its first commentary track, hosted by Marco and Daniel! The two decided to sit down and rewatch one of their favourite movies from last year, The Batman, while providing live commentary about the film and their experiences with it. They enjoyed the making of this track very much, so if you would be interested in seeing more of this type of content, please let us know! Thanks, as always! Well, it looks like it's time to bring this round of the annual Selection Series back to shore, and this time Daniel's episode has the honour. Join your hosts as they look back on a piece of film history: Jaws (1975), directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. With insight from the companion documentary, The Making of 'Jaws' (1995), Daniel, Karolina, and Marco dive into discussion on the tumultuous problems that took place during production, the intensive work put into the special effects, and the long-lasting legacy of the nearly 50-year-old film. Tune into this latest episode of the FLP for a glimpse below the surface of one of cinema's greatest accomplishments. "It's not just one man...it's Zorro!!" Our third selection series continues with Marco's pick, Batman Beg- oh sorry, I meant Batman Beyon- oh sorry, I meant Puss and Boots! Wait no. Well...technically? Kinda? Enjoy! FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
The selection series is back for round 3! This time we are kicking it off with Karolina's pick, Greta Gerwig's 2019 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. Fun Fact(s): This is the 7th film adaptation of the novel, and one of Karolina's favourite films to cry to. A perfect watch for the Christmas season (which is when this was recorded - so it was timely). On this episode of the FLP, we discuss the works of actor, comedian, writer, director, producer, and genius... Jordan Peele. We hope you don't feel the need to GET OUT when you hear US talk about them. NOPE, we aren't kidding - in this episode, we talk about all three (written and directed by) Jordan Peele features: Get Out (2017), Us (2019), and Nope (2022).
Remember, remember the 5th of November, The Gunpowder Treason and Plot, I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot.
Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!! *Freeze Frame* You're probably wondering how we got here. Let's go back and see what happened.... Welcome to Season 3 of the Feature Length Podcast! As you're aware, we are a podcast that talks about movie and TV, and to kick off season 3, we love the smell of burning tropes in the morning!! Do you trust us? Then come with us on a journey, as we discuss all the movie tropes and cliches we hate (and even a few we like...Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!!). But really, what's more cliche than a movie podcast with 2 white dudes and one white woman. In fact, maybe we should have called this podcast "The two White Dudes and One White Woman". Actually, drop the "The", it's cleaner. I know, you're probably saying "English, Please!!! What're these peeps talking about". You'll just have to listen in and find out! But really, it's just like, whatever you think man.
Two years! That's how long we've been doing this now, and we're extremely thankful for our audience. To celebrate this benchmark, we finally tackle the Harry Potter franchise. We continue our conversation as we make our way to the finale. Along the way we talk about the changing tone of the movies, the grey areas of the Wizarding World, and a whole lot of character deaths. This is Part 2 of the 2-part episode, and we cover the fourth film through to the final film. Be sure to check out Part 1 so you don't miss out on the earlier discussion. Hope you enjoy! Whether you're a first-time listener or have been here from the start, thank you dearly for sparing a feature length of time and tuning into the FLP. Here's to another year! Two years! That's how long we've been doing this now, and we're extremely thankful for our audience. To celebrate this benchmark, we finally tackle the Harry Potter franchise. Marco and Daniel both have a history with this one, and Karolina has now seen the films for the first time in preparation for this discussion. We start by introducing how each of us holds this series in our hearts, then we briefly take some time to look back on our second year of podcasting. After that we dive into conversation on the eight movies (and occasionally the books as well). This is Part 1 of the 2-part episode, and we cover roughly up to the end of the third film. If you like the episode, be sure to check out Part 2. Hope you enjoy! Whether you're a first-time listener or have been here from the start, thank you dearly for sparing a feature length of time and tuning into the FLP. Here's to another year! I bet seeing this upload made calmness wash over you, in an awesome wave. On this episode we kick off a new sub series on movies culturally considered to be red flag movies, with none other than American Psycho! We discuss the tone of this movie and how it relates to its original source material, as well as what value the movie has outside of its red flag status. Finally, we attempt to answer whether or not a red flag fanbase can be responsible for making a movie a red flag movie, outside of the movie's actual point of view. The Answer: Maybe. I don't know? Not Really. Check out the episode to find out! FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
On this episode, we make FLP history by bringing on two guests for a single episode. The Maddies are back, and we talk about things such as peaches, shirts, and other topics. FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
For our 50th episode, we talk about the only two movies in existence that begin with the number 50 (don't fact-check us): 50 First Dates and 50/50 - two equally great movies. Hope you enjoy our 100% on-topic discussion. FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
I..... Just listen, I guess. Taken from Episode 40: The Planet of the Apes Prequel Trilogy FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
We're back to finish our discussion from episode 48, this time primarily focusing on Batman Beyond (eggbaby) as well as our final tier lists! Incase you missed it, go check out the previous episode and then come back to hear the good, bad, and the Epilogue of the DCAU. FLP listeners, remember: "It's not worth risking your life....for an egg" -literally the best Batman. More Batman on the FLP....nooooooooooo......... This week on the FLP, strap in for the first in a two episode series on the best Batman content ever made! Special guest Angelo returns to join Marco and Dan as they discuss just what makes this Batman content so good, including episode and movie discussions, as well as notable quotes (and even a few sound bites). This is an episode you won't want to miss! FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
Have you ever wondered what would happen if that one international fling you had ended up writing a book about you, and then you reconnected almost a decade later? Have you also ever wondered what would happen if after that reunion you both uproot your lives to live together in Europe and have two twin girls? And even though you don't seem really happy together, you are both convinced this is true love? If so, this trilogy is for you! And we talk about it all on this episode of the Feature Length Podcast. That's life, baby! FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
This week on the FLP we talk about a bunch of pre-MCU Marvel movies we watched to prepare for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! Spoiler alert, none of them had any impact on that movie. But that's okay, we'll talk about them anyway. Now you'll be able to see into our eyes (like open doors). FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
***WARNING: SPOILERS START AT 34:38*** Hello listeners, and welcome to our official discussion on Dr. Strange In the Multiverse of Madness. If you're someone who has not yet seen this movie, then feel free to enjoy the first 30-ish minutes of this episode. After that the spoiler warnings go up and we go inter-dimensional. Hear our thoughts on the newest entry in the MCU on this week's episode of the FLP! FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
Do ya like jazz? I sure hope you do, because in this episode we are talking about Damien Chazelle's 2014 and 2016 hits Whiplash and La La Land, both of which try to answer the question: can you be a great artist AND be happy?
This week, prepare to end things, because we're talking about I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020). FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
In honour of this special holiday, Karolina is joined by her roommate (and best friend) Caroline to discuss the best films/TV shows to watch under the influence of a certain substance, amongst many many other topics. Enjoy!
A reading from the Gospel according to the FLP: Midnight Mass (2021) is a wonderfully moving, thoughtful, and entertaining piece of art. Watch it (on Netflix). Think about it(In your brain). And then, listen to this episode on it!(Wherever you get your podcasts). Warning, it's nowhere near as moving or thoughtful, but hopefully it's at least somewhat entertaining. Amen!
Episode 40, already, huh? Well, in that case, we better have a significant topic for this week's episode. And we do indeed, with the Planet of the Apes prequel trilogy (2011-2017). We start with an overview from Marco on a brief history of the series and his personal experience with it. Then, starting at the beginning, we look at the legacy of this ambitious trilogy of films from an already ambitious franchise. See how this trilogy holds up since its release for each of us on this week's episode of the FLP. Hope you enjoy! FLP Instagram: @featurelengthpodcast FLP on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnJTpzWG2V5aKQDbygmxWg
Howdy! This week we discuss a movie we all love, Interstellar (2014). For those unaware, it's about how if you're a rad space cowboy with a cool jacket, love will transcend time and space for you. And also morse, binary, gravity, 'The Dust', and just about anything else you can think of are topics as well! Seriously, we love this movie and would love if you checked out this discussion! Note: The first hour of the show deals with topics surrounding the movie such as its critical reception, space travel in general, and some fun personal stories. Around the 1 hour mark we get into a proper discussion of the movie itself. Classic FLP move.
Since our next episode is a 3 hour in depth discussion, we decided to spare you this week with a short and quick snippet! Ever wonder what gets cut out of a regular episode? Wonder no more. It's this absolute nonsense. (cut from Episode 36: Ingrid goes West)
Do you want to listen to us talk about The Princess Bride? If so, this is NOT the episode for you. If you want to listen to us talk about Humpty Dumpty, NFTs, and maybe a little bit about that sword fight (because IMDB told us to), then tune in to this riveting discussion between friends!
***WARNING: SPOILERS START AT 41:05*** On this episode, your hosts break the usual FLP pattern of looking back at past movies. We recently watched Matt Reeves' The Batman, and we're here to talk about it in all its glory. We start our discussion off with a non-spoiler segment for any listeners who have not seen the film but who may be wondering about our general thoughts, whether or not we would recommend it, and where it ranks against the Christopher Nolan Batman films. Then, be warned, as we go into full spoiler discussion on the specifics, including plot details and important character moments. We hope you enjoy our discussion as much as we did!
On this Episode of the FLP, we talk about Batman, Seal, and Julia Fox. Oh, Ingrid Goes West (2017) is somewhere in there as well! (BAYBAYY!!)
This week we are talking about a heavily slept on 2020 release, The Kid Detective. This Canadian film, starring Adam Brody, answers the question: what would happen if the local gifted kid-turned burnout in your small town was a detective, and now 31 years old and still solving "mysteries"? So obviously we talk about how funny that is and also how gross it would be to be fully nude in a dumpster. Hope you enjoy !
FLP co-hosts Marco and Daniel outline all of their theories on the upcoming film The Batman (2022). They gathered all the info they could from the three released trailers for the movie and assembled their hopes for the next iteration of Batman. We hope you enjoy the speculation! Note: This audio-only version of this bonus episode contains a bit more discussion which was cut from the video version for one reason or another. This is why this version has a slightly longer runtime. Enjoy! Go and check out RedLetterMedia's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/RedLetterMedia This video was inspired by the type of prediction videos they have done in the past, and we're big fans!
This week we talk about one of the best and most important movies from 2020, Promising Young Woman (2020). Join us as we deep dive into how nearly perfect of a feature directorial debut this is, and break down how the movie tastefully covers such an important topic. Oh, we also end up listing the names of men we hate at one point, so if that's your thing, wait to see who makes the list! *TW: R@PE*
In this episode, we have no structure (though in reality, when do we ever have a structure?). We just catch up with each other and talk about some things we have watched recently, including Dune, No Time To Die, Spiderman: No Way Home, Normal People, Dark, Tenet, The Matrix Resurrections, among many many other things. We also touch briefly on the Joss Whedon controversy, video games, and some really good movie trailers.
On the third episode of the FLP's second Selection Series, your hosts discuss Karolina's Selection, the 2020 film, Palm Springs. Since the movie follows characters Nyles and Sarah (played by Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti) who are stuck reliving the same day over and over again; naturally the conversation revolved a lot around our other favourite Groundhog Day-esque media, and time loops in general. Hope you enjoy!
On the second episode of the FLP's second Selection Series, your hosts discuss Daniel's Selection, the 1992 film, My Cousin Vinny. The group talks about their favourite Joe Pesci- and Ralph Macchio-isms, Marisa Tomei's Academy Award-winning performance, and the accurate portrayal of the procedure of the film's central criminal trial. This episode also touches on the growing (and questionable) trend pertaining to Hollywood films that favour self-awareness as a crutch, and how that trend has affected the confidence of the films we have received from studios and filmmakers throughout the years.
The selection series is back for round 2, and this week we're kicking it off with the most Italian movie ever, and Marco's pick, Goodfellas (1990). With a wide array of opinions we make our way through the good, the bad, and the Italian. We also reference many Spiderman and Star Wars prequels memes. So, you know, just a typical episode. Thanks for listening, and stick around in the coming weeks to see what movies Dan and Karol have up their sleeves! What are we, a fucking mirage?!?!?
Get out me swamp!!! In this episode we discuss the Shrek Cinematic Universe (SCU) - well at least the first four movies. Naturally, we rank the films (why were 3 and 4 even made????), sing way too loud and talk about why Marco hates Cameron Diaz
After a run of heavy and, at times, existential episodes, your hosts decide to lighten the mood a bit with this episode of the FLP, as they discuss a double feature which looks back at the Jump Street film series (2012-2014). Relive your school years as Karol, Marco, and Daniel talk about the awkwardness, the trend following, and the social norms of their student years, as well as how those experiences have evolved for students since then. And, of course, stick around as we laugh at and admire the genius writing of these comedy films.
In this episode of the FLP, we discuss a couple of self proclaimed Neo- (Keanu Reeves?) Westerns, Hell or High Water (2016) and Wind River (2017). We talk about how Texas may be a fictional place, the temperature at which your capillaries freeze, and the imperial/empirical system. Seriously though, we all think these movies are great and worth your time. TW: R*pe, Self Harm, Suicide, Alec Baldwin.
On this spooky episode, we discuss the Netflix mini-series The Haunting of Hill House (2018), written and directed by podcast alum, Mike Flanagan. Going episode by episode we discuss why we all hate Shirley, what scene(s) made us all jump out of our seats, and just how dreadful the whole show is...in the best way. Happy Halloween!
Finally, a trailer has been released for the upcoming Uncharted movie, starring Tom Holland, and it looks ... well, it certainly looks. On this bonus episode, Daniel shares his personal history with the Uncharted video game series as he and Marco talk about their thoughts and expectations regarding this 'long-awaited' film.
It's the 25th episode of the FLP and the first official episode centred around a series that is neither film nor television. On this episode, your hosts dive into a discussion on the multi-talented comedian Bo Burnham and his contributions to the world of stand-up comedy and entertainment. The conversation also broadens into the territories of humanity's need for attention, growing as human beings, and the real reasons this podcast exists.
On this longer bonus episode, Marco invites friend of the show, Angelo, onto the pod to discuss and rank every single James Bond film (and each film's song). Surprisingly, this is something they did 'for fun' a few years ago and have just now decided to share with the world in anticipation of the release of the newest Bond film, No Time To Die (2021). Hope you enjoy!
On this episode, we all have some drinks and attempt to make sense of the 2019 'film', Cats. Listen for yourself to see if we actually got any closer to understanding the plot, the characters, why the movie was made,... or anything really.
On this episode, witness the exciting conclusion to last week's cliffhanger! Will our trusty hosts finally finish discussing The Dark Knight (2008) and begin talking about The Dark Knight Rises (2012)? Will they share their hopes for the upcoming 2022 Batman film? Will this conversation ever end? How will they escape this sticky situation? Tune in to find out all of this and more on this week's episode of The Feature Length Podcast!
On this episode, our heroes use their might to BOOM, POW, and BAM their way through a discussion of The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005-2012), and (na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na) Batman, in general! Will they be able to finish it all in 2 and a half hours? Tune in to find out! Same bat time, same bat channel!
On this special one-year anniversary episode, your hosts reminisce on past episodes before jumping into Sam Raimi's trilogy of Spider-Man films (2002-2007). They cover general Spider-Man comic book lore, rumours on the future of the Spider-Man movie franchise, and each of the three films starring the one and only, Tobey Maguire. The gang talks about, behind, and around these films in this hearty discussion. Thank you for listening to the podcast. An audience is what gives any show its purpose. The past year of running the FLP has been a blast for us and we certainly don't plan on stopping anytime soon. So begins the second year of the FLP!
On this episode, the gang covers a double feature consisting of two films which do not exist in the same universe yet feel very related: Superbad (2007) and Booksmart (2019). Comparisons are made on how each movie depicts modern high school life, the aging process of Superbad, and the contrasting messages of both films. The following films and series are also briefly referenced at some point during the episode for no good reason at all: Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), The Santa Clause (1994), The Santa Clause 2 (2002), The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006), 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), Home Alone (1990), Elf (2003), Christmas Vacation (1989), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), The Mask of Zorro (1998), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Batman Begins (2005), Deadpool 2 (2018), and Jesus Christ Superstar (1973).
