David Mackenzie's layered Robin Hood-esque modern western was my #1 movie of 2016, partly because entire cast is fantastic. Jeff Bridges was nominated for his supporting work, but Ben Foster is even better. And Taylor Sheridan's Texas-set story they're all in is complex because we're rooting for guys who rob banks…and yet everyone other than the retiring Texas Ranger throw their chips in with the thieves Foster and Chris Pine. I also spent a lot of time in this rehashing the infamous 2016 Oscars, but for GOOD reasons. The devastating wildfires in California bring to mind the fragile, unpredictable nature of life. Homes and dreams reduced to ash are heartbreaking reminders that this world isn't as stable as we often think. In moments like these, some question God, while others wrongly blame the victims. But the truth is, God's ways are beyond our understanding, and He calls us instead to trust Him. Through the words of Isaiah, God promises, “When you pass through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” This doesn't mean we won't face loss or hardship, but that He will be with us, strengthening us, redeeming us, and giving us peace beyond this world's uncertainties. Ultimately, our hope isn't in things we build or protect, but in God's unshakable promises. Through Baptism, we're claimed as His own, and through the cross, Jesus endured the fire of God's wrath so we wouldn't have to. No matter the destruction around us, in Him, we are secure. Come hell or high water, we are His.

From my observation, we are at the cusp of a re-emergence of new & exciting rock bands- unlike anything we've seen in quite a while. This also includes a re-emergence of some familiar favorites as well. Bubbling under that surface, I have heard one name pop up more commonly than not:Joey Bradford.My first encounter with Joey's prowess came in the form of one of my favorite bands (my old band got to open for during the end of our run,)  a band called: Hell Or Highwater.These days, Joey is the guitar slinging, golf club swinging, rock record producing member of The Used. Jake Roberts ACE, Will Files, Polly McKinnon and Lee Gilmore Although the ALIEN: ROMULUS postproduction team of Jake Roberts ACE, Will Files, Polly McKinnon and Lee Gilmore came into this project with a wealth of knowledge and experience amongst them, they still learned a thing or two from director Fede Álvarez, including Fede's not-so-secret formula for jump scares, as well as the notion that clear dialogue isn't always as important as gripping action.  Plus, they reveal the hidden intent of Álvarez to split ALIEN and ALIENS into the two sides of the REMUS/ROMULUS space station. ALIEN: ROMULUS is the ninth installment in the Alien franchise, set between the events of ALIEN (1979) and ALIENS (1986). The film follows a group of downtrodden young space colonists in pursuit of better life conditions.  During the course of their escape from endless servitude on a mining colony, they encounter hostile creatures while scavenging a derelict space station. JAKE ROBERTS, ACE After his work on CITADEL (2012), STARRED UP (2013), THE RIOT CLUB (2014) and BROOKLYN (2015), Roberts earned an Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing for his work on HELL OR HIGH WATER (2016) starring Chris Pine. The movie also garnered him a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award.  Roberts then cut OUTLAW KING (2018) for Netflix directed by David Mackenzie.  He then began collaborating with director Alex Garland, editing his 2020 miniseries DEVS as well as his film, MEN (2022).  Prior to ALIEN: ROMULUS, Jake cut Garland's CIVIL WAR (2024). WILL FILES Will Files is known for his work on THE INVISIBLE MAN (2020), VENOM (2018), WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES (2017), STAR WARS:  EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS (2017) and CLOVERFIELD (2008). POLLY McKINNON Polly McKinnon is known for DISTRICT 9 (2009), FORD V FERRARI (2019) and DUNE: PART TWO (2024).  In 2019 she won a Golden Reel Award for her sound editing on EXTINCTION (2018). LEE GILMORE Lee Gilmore is known for BLADE RUNNER 2049 (2017), DUNE (2021) and THE BATMAN (2022).  Gilmore also won an Emmy for his work on the feature film, PREY (2022). In a nod to our modern era, they had a keyboardist playing bass lines and synth strings, and a laptop was visible onstage as well. Patrick Rieger emailed photos right before St Patrick's Day: “Hello Marc, Celtic Pittsburgh was part of the Saint Patrick's Day parade for the first time this year, and it was also my first parade on such a scale. I was part of two tiny parades for other occasions, but nothing like this. Pittsburgh Public Safety estimated 200,000 spectators would be lining the 1.4 miles route, and it certainly looked it. Emerging from under a railroad bridge to reach the start of the parade route and seeing the sides of the streets of downtown Pittsburgh packed with so many people cheering and whooping was a thrill. Some people were even watching from a parking garage. We had seven people marching. Three members marched, as well as some people who volunteered to march with us. Two people were from the Lady MacGregor Lodge #73 of the Daughters of Scotia based in Youngwood, PA. Besides groups honoring Irish and Celtic culture, there were other groups in the parade, including a Ghostbusters fan group. The radio program who interviewed Susan Borowski and I, The Saturday Light Brigade, asked people downtown for the parade to call in and let them know how the parade was going, so I called while we were waiting in the staging area. I have attached some photos, most to show the size of the crowd, and one of the reviewing stand.”
