https://www.siegergolf.com/first-lesson-free-page Sadly, too often we fall out of love with golf. There are various reasons for this, which, if we are aware of them, perhaps we can avoid them taking hold and causing us to sentence our golf clubs to a lifetime of dust collection in the basement. Many professionals, upon retirement, never play golf again; it was their job, their place of work, and they retired from work to pursue other activities, which makes perfect sense. But for the regular amateur to give up a game they once loved is something that need not be permanent. In today's podcast, we explore the reasons people fall out of love with the game and offer several suggestions and strategies to rekindle that love affair. https://www.siegergolf.com/first-lesson-free-page Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome back to The Golfing Mind Today's episode deals with something every golfer—at every level—has experienced: setbacks. Whether it's a blow-up hole that derails a good round, a missed short putt when it mattered most, or a string of bad shots that seem to come out of nowhere, these moments can feel brutal. They stir up frustration, anger, disappointment, and even self-doubt. And if we're honest, it's not just the mistake that gets to us—it's the emotional aftermath. The way it lingers, hijacks our focus, and sometimes unravels the rest of the round. But here's the good news: bouncing back is a skill—one that can be learned, strengthened, and put into practice the moment things go wrong. In this episode, I'm going to share powerful, practical strategies you can implement immediately—on the course, in competition, or just on your weekend round. Tools that will help you reset, refocus, and regain control—mentally and emotionally—before the game slips away. Because setbacks are inevitable in golf. But staying stuck in them? That's optional. Let's get into it. https://www.siegergolf.com/online-courses Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to The Golfing Mind—I'm Robin Sieger, and if you've listened before, you'll know that while I love golf, I'm fascinated by the mental side of the game—that part of us that swings the club long before we ever take it back. Today's episode might feel a little uncomfortable. It's titled "Be Honest With Yourself," not about swing mechanics, club choice, or course management. It's about something much deeper—the personal honesty required to improve as a golfer, truly. I've had the privilege of working with professionals and amateurs worldwide. I've watched top players battle nerves, frustration, and ego just like the rest of us. And one thing I've learned is this: progress in golf—real, lasting progress—starts with self-awareness. It starts with being willing to confront the truths we often avoid. This episode isn't about judgment—it's about reflection. It's about asking the right questions and listening to the answers, even when we don't like them. Because every golfer, whether a beginner or seasoned pro, reaches a point where honesty becomes the catalyst for improvement. So, stick with me if you want to break 90 or stop sabotaging your own game. Today, we're stripping back the stories we tell ourselves—and finding the truth that leads to better golf. Let's dive in. https://www.siegergolf.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to The Golfing Mind, where we delve into the psychological aspects behind golf's most iconic moments. In this episode, we turn our attention with a forensic look into the 2025 Masters Tournament, where Rory McIlroy achieved his long-awaited career Grand Slam, overcoming immense pressure and mental hurdles. McIlroy's journey to donning the green jacket was marked by resilience and mental fortitude. After 16 previous attempts, he finally triumphed at Augusta, defeating Justin Rose in a dramatic playoff. His victory was not just a testament to his skill but also to his ability to confront and manage the psychological demands of the game. McIlroy employed a unique strategy to combat performance anxiety: visualising worst-case scenarios to prepare for any outcome mentally. Throughout the tournament, McIlroy maintained an intense focus, even choosing not to engage with his playing partner, Bryson DeChambeau, during the final round—a deliberate tactic advised by his sports psychologist, Bob Rotella, to stay immersed in his own game. This mental discipline allowed him to navigate the pressures of the course and the weight of expectations. Join us as we analyse the mental strategies that led to McIlroy's historic win and examine how other players in the field managed the psychological challenges of the Masters. www.siegergolf.com Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a textWelcome to this week's episode of The Golfing Mind, where we explore the intriguing question: why do some countries produce more world-class golfers than others? Today, we'll focus on the remarkable success of Scandinavian and American golfers and explore why the United Kingdom has produced fewer Major champions than one might expect.Scandinavian countries, particularly Sweden and Denmark, have made significant strides in the golfing world. Sweden, for instance, has developed a robust structure and organization for golf, with well-established club training programs and a focus on developing the whole person rather than just the golfer. In contrast, the United States has a long-standing tradition of producing world-class golfers. The extensive golf infrastructure, with a vast number of courses, provides ample opportunities for individuals to engage with the sport from a young age. The robust collegiate golf system offers structured programs, allowing talented players to develop their skills while pursuing higher education. Additionally, significant financial incentives, such as substantial prize money on the PGA Tour, attract top talent and motivate domestic players to excel.Turning our attention to the United Kingdom, it's noteworthy that while golf has deep historical roots here, the number of Major champions is relatively modest. The benefits are pretty well-known. For some, it is very mechanical; for others, it is a bit ritualistic; and for some, it looks like modern dance. But the one thing they all benefit from is that it settles them into a thought-free automatic process. There is no one thing we need to do any more, and there is one Secret to success. What there are, I believe, principles we can apply. Send us a Text Message. There is an old saying, "Practice makes perfect." If only that were true, but practice always results in improvement and gains. A game of golf is complex enough without introducing more practice protocols—allegedly to help us improve. Once the basic mechanics have been mastered, golf is a mental game. Yet, no one practices that mental gate because they do not believe it is possible; it can only be learned through real-world experience. We should practice many areas of the mental game, both on and off the course. This will improve our golf and other aspects of our lives.Reading books about cooking will not turn you into a chef. Having read as many titles as I have been able to find over the past 20 years, I can only answer by announcing my favourite book. I thought this week it would be worthwhile to share some interesting facts about myself, specifically as it relates to golf. Every golfer has experiences on and off the golf course, which influence and, to a degree, shape the way they develop as golfers in terms of outlook, attitude, and ability. Therefore, I have highlighted about ten or so anecdotes from the past to the present day that have profoundly influenced me and led to the development of the books I have written. Equally, some of the stories are just fun ones I like retelling. My love of the professional game goes back to my childhood, when, as a young kid with short pants, I would follow my father around the open championship venues to see his heroes in action.Later in life, I got a world record in golf and started a tournament that I had hoped would become a classic, possibly for all the wrong reasons. So, this week, sit back and relax as I ramble for 30 minutes about my world of golf and some unusual facts I experienced along the way.https://www.siegergolf.com/offers/BaAEYBog/checkoutA Birkhall Media Production
Recently, my golf clubs were removed (stolen) from my car, and I imagine I only have myself to blame as, for some reason, best known to the universe at large, I appear to have not locked the doors. This unfortunate event - led me to look at my options to get new golf clubs. It is always a fun thing to do, but perhaps we invest too much time and trust in advertising blurb, technological promises and sales staff enthusiasm. It was a most enlightening experience for more reasons than you may imagine, but it helped me clarify what I truly believe are the most important considerations when it comes to getting clubs.https://www.siegergolf.com/offers/BaAEYBog/checkoutA Birkhall Media Production

https://www.siegergolf.com/offers/BaAEYBog/checkoutHow often have we had a player referred to as the best player never to have won a Major? It is a classic example of being damaged by faint praise. There are so many stunningly talented golfers in the past and even presently who everyone believes will win a major until it appears they never did. Why did this happen? Is it simply a matter of fate and destiny, or perhaps is it possible there is just a little more to the equation that defined their career? It is a question I have often been asked and discussed with friends. It is multifactorial, with no quick, short, simple, precise answer. I do, however, believe there are factors, and the degree to which these factors are present during a major tournament, I believe, greatly impacts the chance for the player to get it done.In today's podcast, Robin reflects on these factors in his opinion.A Birkhall Media Production
Is mental toughness and the will to win something you are born with, or is it a quality you can develop? This question has long puzzled sports psychologists, and in this week's podcast, Robin talks with golf enthusiasts and past partners in quite a number of tense and dramatic matches, Tom Needham. Tom turns the tables on Robin and gets his thoughts on confidence, competitiveness, and the mental side of matchplay.Tom agreed to appear on the podcast so he would have the opportunity to set the record straight from a scandalous claim made by Robin in last week's podcast. An informal and entertaining exchange between two friends.https://www.siegergolf.com/preland-A Birkhall Media Production
https://www.siegergolf.com/preland-pageIIt's that time of year again. When we look at our golf bag and think, "Maybe it's time for a change," I don't mean that we think we need to get a new golf bag. Oh no, we need a new top-of-the-range set - to hell with the expensive, shiny, totally excellent-brand set of make-my-friends jealous new clubs. We may need to review our current clubs and upgrade or even potentially downgrade them, but the most important thing is that the decision is made with logic and not ego. In this week's podcast, we explore factors that influence the decision-making process in a light-hearted yet relevant way. Robin also reveals his two favourite drivers. A Birkhall Media Production
https://www.siegergolf.com/preland-pageHow often has someone suggested to you there is a secret move in the game of golf, a technique, a grip, a secret move or a mechanical device that will unburden you from the pain and suffering that regularly descends upon you whilst on the golf course? It has become, for many keen golfers, their holy grail. To discover that one elusive thing that will transform them from a long-suffering average golfer to a much-envied great player. You only have to read enough golf magazines regularly to hear teaching professionals praise the move that will release golfers from a future of sufferingIs it true? Are there secrets awaiting discovery if we know the password or secret handshake to have it revealed to us? In this week's podcast, Robin looks into this murky world of promises and disappointment. In this podcast, Robin explores the very simple philosophy of a Zen monk who brought the whole concept of the art of mindfulness to Western culture. While presenting at a recent conference in Portugal, Robin discovered one of his quotations in an old computer file, and it served him so well that he realised, at many levels, it is the ultimate mantra for the mental game of golf.A Birkhall Media Production
