Over 15 years of research into what makes the best golfers tick mentally, Robin this week explores what he believes are ten mental habits that should be avoided at all costs, speaking specifically over short-pressure putts.Without a doubt, you will recognise one, two, or possibly more of the bad habits that have become part of your process inadvertently rather than give suggestions on how to overcome them. This month, we're going to be doing a series on 'Happier at Work.' Our rates of stress and burnout are high. If we want long, productive careers where we help the most people we have to be taking care of ourselves! In this 'sode we go through 3 mental habits Nicole has used to practice for nearly 20 years and that we try and cultivate in our team at PelvicSanity.First is being ready to receive your patient. If you're rushing into work at the last minute you can feel behind, rushed or frenetic all day. That's extra stress and it means you aren't providing the best possible care for your people. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes before your first patient, getting settled in, taking time to review your caseload and feel settled yourself so you can receive your patient.Next is a reset ritual. This is a way to mentally reset between patients. You can leave the last session behind, refocus, and be ready to meet the challenges of your next patient. We find this skill to be critical in pelvic health when we deal with such a wide variety of patients. Finally, count your wins! We start every staff meeting at PelvicSanity by having each team member go through their wins. As humans, we bias towards negativity. Many of us are (hopefully recovering) perfectionists. We dwell on the person who flared, or who got frustrated, or who isn't improving as quickly as we wanted. Instead of focusing on all of the success stories, people we've helped or positive outcomes. So ask yourself at the end of the day - 'what were the wins'? When you start looking for the positive, you'll find it!Downtraining & Vagus Nerve MasterclassFor those interested in learning more about working with the nervous system, check out the Downtraining and Vagus Nerve Treatment Masterclasses! With Downtraining, we take a broad look at the three different types of downtraining to use with your patients. In the Vagus Nerve masterclass (www.pelvicptrising.com/vagus), we take a deep dive into specific vagus nerve techniques you can use with all your patients.About UsNicole and Jesse Cozean founded Pelvic PT Rising to provide clinical and business resources to physical therapists to change the way we treat pelvic health. PelvicSanity Physical Therapy (www.pelvicsanity.com) together in 2016. It grew quickly into one of the largest cash-based physical therapy practices in the country.Through Pelvic PT Rising, Nicole has created clinical courses (www.pelvicptrising.com/clinical) to help pelvic health providers gain confidence in their skills and provide frameworks to get better patient outcomes. My guest this week is Yemado. He's the director of the Boston School of Boabom, and he's been teaching Boabom for over 20 years. As you'll hear, Boabom is a Tibetan system of meditation, relaxation, and self-defense, and this was such an interesting discussion. The topics Yemado and I explored were really familiar ones, and they were also in a whole new context. One of the most valuable parts of this conversation for me was his description of “crashing into yourself” when you pursue consistent practice with something like yoga or meditation or Boabom. Eventually you'll discover inconvenient truths about yourself, and with persistence you can learn better ways to work with yourself. Toward the end you can follow along as Yemado leads us through a brief guided meditation. Topics we got into included: How Yemado discovered Boabom A book Yemado translated called Recycling with the Mind (affiliate link) What it means to meditate Habitual pathways in the mind, and creating new, more intentional pathways Meditation as rerouting the pathways in the mind Connections among the different benefits of meditation, such as relaxation and mental focus Meditation through movement Finding a “just-right challenge” in meditation Seeing through unhelpful assumptions The risk in skipping from one form of practice to another, and the value in practicing one approach over time “Crashing into yourself” through consistent focused practice Discovering truths about yourself that you're not happy with through meditation Psychological self-defense as not taking on unnecessary additional stress A brief guided meditation from the Boabom approach Yemado is the foremost teacher in North America of Boabom, an ancient Tibetan system of meditation, relaxation, and self defense. He has brought this practice to thousands of students around the world over more than two decades of teaching, and he has trained Boabom teachers around the world. Yemado is the creator of Boabom Journey, a new 5 star app and video course that allows anyone to learn Boabom on their own schedule. He is the director of the Boston School of Boabom, the principal school dedicated to Boabom in North America. Yemado is also the co-translator and editor of a number of books about Boabom. You can download the highly-rated Boabom app here. Check out a free Boabom class, and learn more about Boston Boabom where Yemado is the Director and senior teacher.

On this episode we've got part 2 of our re-release of my all-time favorite episode of the podcast. It's from the very first conversation I had with Raymond Prior titled Golf Beneath the Surface released back in February of 2022. Again, this conversation was formative for me because it completely shifted my focus from the surface level mental game that we read about and hear on social media to deeper level psychology that actually gets at the heart of the issue. And it's the way I believe we should all be addressing our own improvement. Rather than jumping from one quick fix to the next, instead taking the time to address what's at the heart of our struggles. As Prior says, patiently and systematically working on something might be a slow road, but it's still the fasted road to sustainable change. So I hope you learn as much as I did in talking to Raymond Prior. I think you can even hear how I'm being challenged on my thinking during this episode. There are so many benefits to mindfulness with one of the biggest being the cultivation of more self-awareness. This cultivation can lead to identifying the unhelpful mental habits that can develop over the years.Today we're going to talk to Carol Wilson who offers very clear and practical ways that Buddhist meditation can help us turn down the volume on our unproductive mental habits and be less reactive.Wilson is a guiding teacher at the Insight Meditation Society, where for many years she has taught their annual three-month retreat. She began her insight meditation practice in 1971 in India and in the 1980s she spent a year in Thailand as a Buddhist nun. In this episode we talk about:How to be mindful throughout the dayThe concept of 360 degree awarenessNoticing when one experiences wanting or aversion Why Wilson believes that the root of suffering comes from making it all about usHow seeing torment can help us experience freedom from the selfThe benefits of reflecting on your past acts of generosity Bringing awareness to your motivationsAnd doing a gratitude practice regularly to change the weather pattern in your mindFull Shownotes: https://www.tenpercent.com/podcast-episode/carol-wilson-481See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this episode, we talk about the Six Mental Habits of a Thriving, Resilient, and Unstoppable (TRU) healthcare leader and the different underlying polarities. We know mental habits are equally important as physical habits. In fact, without positive mental habits, you'll end up overthinking each challenge, focusing on things that deplete your energy, and getting the same results over and over again. Therefore, establishing a positive mental habit is essential to supporting your transformation into becoming a Thriving, Resilient, and Unstoppable (TRU) healthcare leader. In this podcast, we talk about why mental habits are equally important as physical habits for healthcare leaders and some of the consequences of not paying attention to your mental habits. We also discuss why creating a mental habit is an internal state and some reflection questions about your current mental habits. A meditation practice of self reflection, taking control of the mental cause and effect that's normally unconscious: the habits and activities conditioned by evolution, our upbringing, society and the media. This is a practice you can do at the end of each day: reviewing your day, rejoicing in the positive, and finding ways to sincerely forgive yourself for anything that you regret, so you can sleep better and be your best self the next day.Episode 12: Guided Meditation on Mental Cause and EffectTwo years ago, we created A Skeptic's Path to Enlightenment to share the rich tradition of Tibetan Buddhist analytical meditation in a form that requires no belief beyond what science currently accepts. The first 40 episodes of the podcast gradually go through all of these topics, in order, beginning with appreciating the gift of our life and our place in the universe, and gradually moving up to cultivating boundless compassion for all beings and understanding the ultimate nature of our inner and outer realities. Over the next year, interspersed with new interviews, we are re-releasing updated versions of these topics.Support the show

Welcome back to the Skeptic Metaphysician…..today's guest….whew….where do I even begin…..He's fortunate enough to have had a mother who was familiar with the concept of Out of Body experiences from an early age, so had the freedom to really look into things starting at the age of 12.He has had prophetic dreams that helped guide him in life, including helping him make the decision to move to the US from Colombia. If you heard my episodes on sleep paralysis and astral projection you already know what some of his experiences were….sleep paralysis, super strong vibrations, experiences out of his body. Research into all of this found him training in the fabled Monroe Institute that you've heard us mention on the show before and we'll definitely touch on that experience, but what drew my attention to my guest is his experiences with lucid dreaming.Looking for an introductory book on all things metaphysical?
