Akshay Bhatia delivered one of the most electric Sundays of the PGA Tour season at Bay Hill, draining over 144 feet of putts and storming back to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational in a playoff. Smylie Kaufman and Charlie Hulme break down how Bhatia's short game carried him to victory on brutally firm, “crispy” greens that had the entire field on edge all week. The guys also dive into Daniel Berger's incredible comeback, analyzing the encouraging signs after nearly two years battling injuries and setbacks. Plus, they discuss strong performances from Ludvig Åberg, Cam Young, and Collin Morikawa, what it means heading into THE PLAYERS Championship, and why Bay Hill's setup produced one of the most entertaining tournaments of the season. And of course, things get chaotic when Judge Jaxon Brown enters the courtroom to rule on the Rory McIlroy withdrawal in the show's One-and-Done contest.Follow us on socials @thesmylieshow ⛳️ & don't forget to like, comment, & subscribe for more golf insight ✅CHAPTERS:0:00 – Bay Hill delivers2:06 – Golf season is officially back3:08 – Bay Hill's greens4:14 – Smylie's “Snap, Crackle, Pop” crispy greens rankings6:47 – Major championship courses with the craziest greens10:15 – Akshay Bhatia21:04 – The clutch putts that saved Bhatia's round23:40 – Daniel Berger29:13 – Bay Hill's intimidating visuals and pressure moments31:10 – Scottie Scheffler34:12 – Cam Young37:04 – Ludvig Åberg38:12 – Collin Morikawa38:48 – The Rory McIlroy One-and-Done controversy47:36 – Ryder Cup49:00 – Luke Donald's leadership and Europe's continuity50:30 – Could Tiger Woods captain the U.S.?55:30 - Jon Rahm1:10:00 – Closing thoughts and wrap-up#pgatour #golfpodcast #smylieshow #smyliekaufman #golfhighlights

After a trip to the eye doctor, Andy is locked in for this Friday episode and is immediately thrilled by an unsubstantiated rumor from Brendan! about an ill-timed tattoo. PJ is out on a trip with his fellow Boy, leaving the two to recap Daniel Berger's stellar Thursday at Bay Hill by themselves. Andy and Brendan discuss signs of life from DB and Ludvig Åberg before debating whether the Arnold Palmer Invitational should replace The Players as the PGA Tour's "major." They agree that the setup is closer to a major championship test than March at TPC Sawgrass with Brendan claiming something can't be a major if they're playing ball-in-hand every year. After a brief bowling interlude, Andy decides that Luke Donald's third consecutive Ryder Cup captaincy is NOT an issue, much to PJ's dismay. In (potentially) related captaincy news, Brendan is still on cloud nine following the big Jup Links win and Tom Kim's ace that sent Tiger's team to the TGL playoffs. Will Tiger tee it up in the first round against the Ballfrogs? We have two weeks to find out. Jon Rahm will be teeing it up in South Africa soon, which Rory McIlroy seemed to think he may not be too happy about. Rory was asked to comment on Rahm's ongoing fight with the DP World Tour and we may have a beef breweing between these Ryder Cup teammates! Finally, Andy and Brendan share some college football tales from Augusta in honor of legendary coach and broadcaster Lou Holtz, who passed away on Wednesday evening.

On this episode 202, I am joined by golf podcaster Jonny Mac Cann for a deep and dynamic State of the Game golf edition. The aim was to keep the conversation to 40 minutes which we failed at miserably as the 2025 golf season was packed with history and headlines. In a wide-ranging episode we discuss golf media, Irish women's golf, Lauren Walsh , rising stars in the game, and that masters win by Rory. We also dig into the Ryder Cup, will Luke Donald continue as captain and who will over next. Please note the conversation was recorded prior to the departure of Brooks Kepka from Liv. We discuss Liv's pending merger with the PGA and Tom McKibbon. It's an honest, insightful chat that looks at where the game is right now — and where it might be heading next. Season 6 Kickoff! Mike and Tarlin are back for a special edition of Running It Back, diving into the biggest sports stories for lessons in leadership, accountability and the struggle for growth. The conversation starts with an update on Mike's Mets (the only thing softening the blow is a wealthy owner) and Tarlin's dog before flexing into three essential topics: WNBA: The Commissioner vs. The Player Napheesa "Phee" Collier, Vice President of the WNBA Players Association and co-founder of the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league, put the entire league office on blast, labeling them the "worst leadership" at a moment when the league is experiencing unprecedented growth driven by stars like Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese. Player First vs. Management First: Compare the WNBA's current position to the NBA's profitability years under David Stern. Is Cathy Engelbert missing the story by not putting her most valuable assets—the players—first? The Cost of Growth: Revenue is up, but is management willing to take the long-term investment view required to scale the league and pay the players what they deserve? A Familiar Narrative: Tarlin draws parallels to the massive lockouts in the NHL and MLB in the mid-'90s, warning that the WNBA's current crisis of leadership threatens to squander its boom moment. NBA: Ballmer, Kawhi, and the Clippers' Stink Steve Ballmer's “hardcore” Clippers franchise faces a serious challenge following the surfacing of a no-show job deal for Kawhi Leonard's uncle with a carbon offset company, Aspiration—a company in which Ballmer was investing. The Madoff-Type Scheme: Mark Cuban called it "a shady carbon offset deal where the math 'is not mathing.'" Lessons from History: This scandal echoes the Joe Smith salary cap violation with the Timberwolves in 1999, which led to heavy penalties. Will Adam Silver take action against the ego-driven, win-at-all-costs leadership of the Clippers? Independent Journalism: A shout-out to Pablo Torre and his team for their investigative work in surfacing this stink. Golf: The Ryder Cup and the Crisis of Individualism Team Europe, led by the small-ego, unifying captain Luke Donald, dominates the US team, highlighting a fundamental leadership failure for the Americans. The Accidental Captain: Donald's success comes from putting his ego aside and positioning every player to win, a direct contrast to the US side. Rotten on the Inside: The American team's individual success in the singles matches proves they lack the necessary team cohesion and leadership apparatus. The Need for a Colangelo: The US golf program is at a crisis moment, much like USA basketball in the early 2000s. Who is the necessary, unifying leader—the Tiger Woods—needed to build a winning culture for the next generation? Quote of the Episode: "If it's rotten on the inside, it will never grow as much as you want." Matt Every and Tim Barter joined Gary Williams on today's show. Every was up first and talked about what he has learned about the tour since leaving it as a player; what he doesn't love about analytics, his fandom of Ben Griffin and that he feels there needs to be a penalty for playing bad golf and favors a cut no matter the event. Barter talked about Rory McIlroy's chase for a 7th Order of Merit that could culminate in Dubai this weekend; his thoughts on Tommy Fleetwood moving to an elite level; his love and appreciation of Justin Rose; the play of Bob McIntyre and if Luke Donald will pursue a third consecutive Ryder Cup captaincy.

Smylie and Charlie are back for a jam-packed episode that mixes life updates, heartfelt moments, and golf talk. Smylie shares stories about welcoming his new baby boy, and juggling dad life, while Charlie opens up about his recent cancer scare and recovery. Then the guys dive into the Ryder Cup — from behind-the-scenes chaos at Bethpage to fan behavior, pairings, and why Europe got everything right. They close out with a deep look at Tommy Fleetwood's incredible year and whether he belongs in golf's next “big three.”
Hope Barnett and Andrew Coltart joined the show today. Barnett, who covers the LPGA, talked about the parity on the LPGA this year, how Jeeno Thitikul ascended to #1 in the world, the boxes checked and what's next for Lydia Ko, the future of Lexi Thompson and the year for Nelly Korda. Coltart talked about Rory McIlroy being Europe's all-time best, could Luke Donald be the Ryder Cup captain for two more terms, what stood out to him from the Ryder Cup and the form of many of the LIV players when they play the DP World Tour. We closed the show with our picks for the Baycurrent Classic and unveiled our golf dogs of the week.
Matt Cook explores Europe's Ryder Cup win and Luke Donald's impactful captaincy, dissecting the final score and U.S. team's issues. The episode discusses New York crowd dynamics, golf's elitist image, and Rory McIlroy's reactions to perceived hypocrisy. It examines broadcasters' focus, Donald's strategy, and the role of data in modern golf. Tommy Fleetwood's standout performance, U.S. team prep issues, and course setup blunders are highlighted. Celebrations of Team Europe and a look ahead to the 2027 Ryder Cup are included. The episode concludes with thoughts on Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods as potential captains, player performances, and sponsor acknowledgments.
Send us a textEpisode 346A bruiser turned into a pillow, and Europe didn't waste it. We open with the shock of Bethpage Black playing soft—rough that let balls sit up, greens that spun back, and a setup that felt more like a putting contest than a pressure cooker. From there, we tackle the uncomfortable stuff: how phones, alcohol, and corporate suites warped the fan energy, why chants felt manufactured, and how a legacy event drifts when the experience stops rewarding real support. The meat of the show is team golf. We dig into Europe's quiet edge—more reps on the course, smarter pairings, a captain who set a steady tone—and contrast it with the U.S. tendency to rely on talent and hope singles bail them out. You'll hear where pairings broke (elite ball-striker plus cold putter is a losing recipe), how complementary skills win foursomes and four-ball, and why Luke Donald's plan looked seamless while Keegan Bradley's debut showed gaps. We also unpack the envelope rule moment, on-course dust-ups, and the broadcast choices that missed live drama. Then we go under the hood. Our gear segment lays out a real fitting journey: swapping from low-launch, low-spin shafts to profiles with lower kick points and higher launch that unlocked height, spin, and consistency—proof that shaft profile beats flex and weight. We cover why ball testing matters, how to pick a model that fits your launch window, and the fastest ways to gain carry and hold greens without overhauling your swing. If you care about the Ryder Cup's soul, smarter setups, better fan policies, and pairings built on data and chemistry, this one's for you. Will Doctor gets you ready for the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black this week. Will covers every golfer in the field for the Americans and Europeans. Will dives deep into who and what he thinks is the best strategy for your betting approach. Will Doctor (0:15 - 0:28) opened the show welcoming listeners with energy and promising sharp Ryder Cup insights. Will Doctor (0:33 - 55:37) recapped the fiery ceremonies, noting Luke Donald's criticism of U.S. systems, Keegan Bradley's Farmingdale roots, and Kathy Hochul's repeated boos. He framed the 45th Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black as electric and immediately criticized the U.S. for starting with alternate shot, pointing out Europe's 51–37 advantage in that format since 2002 and calling the decision “an act of insanity.” He explained the point structure—28 total, Europe needs 14 to retain, U.S. 14.5 to win back—and emphasized Europe's chemistry, with 11 of 12 returning from 2023, compared to a U.S. side rusty after limited recent play. He highlighted the strength of the American roster with Scheffler, Henley, Schauffele, and Thomas but reminded listeners that past U.S. teams with world number ones still lost. Missing veterans like Spieth and Koepka left the squad without seasoned leaders. On Bethpage, he called it a “1936 masterpiece” demanding precision, but said rain-softened conditions and trimmed rough may neutralize its difficulty. On players, Scheffler was praised as “the best long iron player in the game,” likely paired with Henley. J.J. Spaun was credited for elite irons and big-moment poise. Schauffele's experience (14-8-0) was countered by wild driving, while Henley's consistency made him invaluable despite lacking distance. Harris English's poor irons raised doubts, while DeChambeau was seen as a potential difference-maker if paired with a “marksman” like Spaun or Griffin rather than Thomas, whose ball striking woes made him “statistically the worst player on this American team.” Morikawa's poor prep suggested limited use, while rookies Griffin and Cameron Young were urged as sparks, with Young called the “hometown kid” who should be unleashed early. Cantlay's 15-6-1 team record earned a call to play every session, and Burns's putting strength positioned him as a best-ball asset. On Europe, McIlroy was expected to thrive on softened fairways and pair again with Fleetwood, whose form and partnership history made him a projected star. McIntyre was labeled a weak link due to shaky ball striking, while Rose was respected for veteran leadership but doubted for heavy use. Rasmus Højgaard was called a “sneaky weapon” in four-ball, Hatton reliable in foursomes with Rahm but risky in singles, and Lowry and Straka limited by putting and approach struggles. In contrast, Åberg and Hovland were described as statistical machines, with Hovland “a major problem” for the U.S. Fitzpatrick, historically poor at Ryder Cups, was forecasted to break through thanks to sharp recent form. Rahm's 6-3-3 Ryder Cup record and clutch history, including a win over Tiger in 2018, reinforced his role as Europe's closer. Will ended without picking an outright winner, instead backing Scheffler as top U.S. scorer (+275) and Europe in foursomes (+135), citing their 7-1 domination in 2023. He concluded that softened Bethpage conditions tilt slightly toward Europe but overall make the 2025 Ryder Cup too close to call Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Eddie and Iain chat in a more focussed way about the build-up at Bethpage and after hearing from Luke Donald, Iain has a conversation with US captain Keegan Bradley. Andrew does make a cameo appearance to ask Eddie who he thinks might be the best European player of all time. This bonus episode is in association with DP World. Hosted on Acast. The Chipping Forecast spans the globe at the start of Ryder Cup week, by which we mean that Andrew is not very fresh off a plane from Tokyo to Los Angeles, Iain is battling with the roads of Long Island and Eddie is barely coherent, since it's after 11pm in Oxfordshire. However, our Tour pro stays awake long enough to tell us that his form is actually pretty good despite what The Italian Challenge leaderboard says. We also hear from Europe's Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald and are given the most startling revelation about a European Tour player in the history of both golf and pop music.Visit: www.petermillar.co.ukCheck out: www.ping.comInsta: @thechippingforecastEmail: tcf@thechippingforecast.co.uk Hosted on Acast. The tension around this year's Ryder Cup is already boiling over — and it may be heading straight for another meltdown. In this week's episode of The Golf Podcast we'll dive into the growing drama building ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. Things are already getting heated, with Bryson DeChambeau firing verbal shots and Rory McIlroy firing right back, setting the stage for what could be a fiery showdown at Bethpage. Rory has even warned that something is “inevitable” to happen in New York, drawing comparisons to the boiling point we saw in Rome two years ago. On top of that, the pay controversy is stealing headlines as Team USA players are now set to receive $500,000 each, while the European side continues to frame their effort as purely for pride and country. Luke Donald has already suggested that this change could backfire, especially if the New York crowd turns on the Americans should they underperform. Between chirping players, emotional captains, and the weight of national pride, this Ryder Cup is shaping up to be one of the most explosive in history. We'll break down the key quotes, the history fueling Rory vs. Bryson, and how the money debate could add even more fuel to the fire. Strap in—this Ryder Cup might just be headed for another meltdown. Andy and Brendan! get this First of the Month recording in under the gun, chatting late on Labor Day about the latest news in golf. They run through Monday's announcement of the European Ryder Cup team as Luke Donald finalized his roster with 11 of the 12 players from Rome. The two debate whether this is the best Team Europe has ever been and wonder who, if anyone, will be looked back on as the "random" member of this 2025 roster. The picks were made following the Omega Masters on the DP World Tour, won by pod favorite Thriston Lawrence after a year of struggles in the United States. In honor of this week's Walker Cup, Brendan shares quick flashlight about a player from the last time the event was held at Cypress Point. This flashlight has twists and turns and ends up with an extradition, if that's your thing. PJ quizzes Andy and Brendan on some SEC backup QBs or SEC golfers following Week 1 of college football and all three take some joy in North Carolina's loss to TCU. Things wrap up with a Champions Tour discussion after Ernie Els publicly challenged Tiger Woods to tee it up on the senior circuit in 2026.
With European captain Luke Donald making his 6 captain's picks today, the teams are set for the Ryder Cup later this month in New York at Bethpage Black. The European team is essentially the same as the last Ryder Cup in Italy, with the only exception being that Rasmus Hojgaard is on this years team instead of his twin brother Nicolai. The United States team has been set for about a week now, with the big talker being captain Keegan Bradley opting to not pick himself to play. The United States team will look to keep the run of home teams winning the Ryder Cup. The podcast guys played a round at the historic Keller Golf Course in the Twin Cities and had a round for the ages. Keller Golf Course has hosted two PGA Championships and also was the host venue for the St. Paul Open, which was played for many decades on the PGA Tour. The group had 20 birdies, including a couple improbable ones from Timothy after hitting into a nature area, Jeff making 8 birdies and still shooting even par and Mike with a bogey-free 65. We were joined by Rob Lee of Sky Sports and Brendan Porath of The Fried Egg joined us today to talk Ryder Cup with the European side ready to make their six captain picks public. Porath discussed the luxury the Europeans have in basically bringing the same team back and that despite the uncertainty the last couple months, the Americans still have more depth and it was the right decision for Keegan Bradley to just captain the team. Rob Lee talked about the steady hand of Luke Donald, the investment of Rory McIlroy and how the start will be key to both sides.

Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for the Omega European Masters -Discussing top 9 on odds board -1 matchup -2 t10's -2 outrights (16/1 & 18/1) -Sleeper, Best Bet The Golf Preview Podcast on Pregame's Network (0:12 – 0:29) set the stage for this week's deep dive into PGA Tour and DP World Tour betting picks. Host Will Doctor brought sharp insights, beginning with the headline story of Tommy Fleetwood's first PGA Tour win at Eastlake, a monumental 2025 moment for golf betting fans. From Memphis to the BMW, Fleetwood's heartbreaks turned into motivation, showing resilience and class (0:39 – 9:23). Doctor highlighted upcoming DP World Tour action, including the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, where Matt Wallace defends in the Swiss Alps. With Matthew Fitzpatrick at 9-1, Alex Noren at 14-1, and Aaron Rai at 16-1, the field is stacked. He also previewed the Irish Open, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, and the high-stakes Korn Ferry Tour Finals with thirty PGA Tour cards on the line, key storylines shaping fall golf betting. Alex Noren (9:23 – 9:49) celebrated his first victory in seven years, returning from injury with elite iron play and renewed confidence. Will Doctor noted profitable tickets cashed on Fitzpatrick and Smylie, while Rasmus Højgaard locked in his Ryder Cup spot despite missed chances (9:49 – 11:04). Fleetwood's breakthrough was the season's most-watched non-major, with over 4.4 million viewers, a massive data point for PGA Tour betting relevance. Fleetwood's own reflection (11:05 – 11:30) captured the moment: one win as the foundation for many. Yet betting cards saw setbacks with Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, and Ludvig Åberg falling short (11:31 – 39:00). Only Sam Burns delivered, finishing top ten and strengthening his Ryder Cup candidacy. Doctor analyzed Ryder Cup projections, calling for Scheffler, Schauffele, Henley, English, DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Ben Griffin, and Sam Burns to form Team USA, while Cantlay's runner-up finish secured his place. Team Europe, led by Luke Donald, is anchored by Rory McIlroy, Fleetwood, Rose, Hatton, and Højgaard, with Lowry, Straka, Åberg, Hovland, Fitzpatrick, and Rahm likely filling out the roster. The Omega European Masters odds board was then dissected in detail. Fitzpatrick's strong form made him one to watch but not a pre-tournament bet at 9-1. Noren at 14-1 presented elite value, while Aaron Rai's struggles with the putter kept him off Doctor's card. The spotlight shifted to the Højgaard twins, with Nicolai at 16-1 and Rasmus at 18-1, both primed to contend at altitude. Marco Penge's explosive driving but inconsistent putting made him a risky choice. Wyndham Clark at 25-1 drew intrigue, though erratic driving raised concerns. In betting matchups, Oliver Lindell over Yuki Ichikawa emerged as a sharp play. Doctor's official card closed with Noren to top ten at +125, Rasmus Højgaard to top ten at +187, Nicolai Højgaard outright at 16-1, Rasmus outright at 18-1, Sami Välimäki as a sleeper to top ten at +350, and Nicolai Højgaard to top ten as the best bet at +162. These Omega European Masters picks provide actionable golf betting insights backed by recent form, strokes gained data, and Ryder Cup momentum. The Golf Preview Podcast (ending timestamp) delivered a comprehensive breakdown of PGA Tour betting, DP World Tour odds, Ryder Cup team construction, and European Masters predictions. For golf fans and bettors alike, the combination of statistical insight, player performance analysis, and betting recommendations made this preview essential. Pregame's coverage positioned the Omega European Masters as a premier betting opportunity in late summer golf, where smart wagering strategies could turn form analysis into profitable outcomes.
