Have you ever noticed that when we get overwhelmed, our first instinct is to run faster?When we feel we are losing control of our finances, our family or our future, we start manoeuvring. We stay up later. We worry more. We try to control everything and everyone around us. We treat life like a war we have to win by out-hustling the problem.But what do you do when the problem is too big to out-hustle?
When It's Your Own Heart in the Second CourtroomRomans 8:1 and John 8 answer condemnation coming from outside — the law, the accusers. But the second courtroom in the parable above is usually run by no one but you. Scripture has a direct answer for that version too: 1 John 3:19-20 — "whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything."Notice what this verse doesn't do: it doesn't tell you your heart is wrong to feel what it feels, and it doesn't deny there might be real fault underneath the feeling. It does something more specific — it says that even when your own conscience convicts you, there's a higher court, and His verdict outranks your heart's. Not because He's more lenient, but because He has the whole file — the sin your heart is condemning you over, and the finished work that already answered it. Your heart only ever sees half the case.That's the appeal available every time the second courtroom opens: not out-arguing your own conscience, but taking the case to a higher court that already ruled.
Guilt is the only one of the four built to be temporary by design — it's supposed to hand you off to correction and then disappear. Shame, regret, and condemnation don't respond to self-effort at all, because none of them were ever actually about your performance. They were about your status. And status isn't improved. It's declared.That's the whole teaching, if you want it in one line:You cannot behave your way out of a verdict. You need the verdict changed.
There's a word for this season, and it's simple: **it is time to rest.**Not rest as in doing nothing. Not rest as in checking out. The kind of rest the Bible talks about — the kind that comes after you've fought, after you've carried, after you've labored. The kind of rest that God Himself provides because He knows you were never designed to carry certain things on your own strength.This September, before we do anything else, we're going to ask one question: **what does rest actually look like?**Because I think a lot of us have been taught to see rest as the absence of activity. But when you walk through scripture, rest is something far more specific. It's provision. It's a way made. It's reversal. It's soundness restored. It's an inheritance where nothing is broken and nothing is missing.Let's look at it together.
I want to ask you a question most of us have never thought to ask.When did God decide to bless you?Most of us, if we're honest, would answer that question by pointing to a moment in our own timeline — the day we got saved, the day we started tithing faithfully, the day we finally got serious about our walk with Him. We instinctively locate the origin of God's blessing somewhere inside our own story.Today I want to show you that the answer is not inside your story at all. It is not even inside human history. Paul is going to tell us, in one breath, that the blessing over your life was decided before there was a universe for you to be born into — before Genesis 1:1, before light, before time itself started running.If that's true, it changes everything about how you carry yourself this week — because a decision made before creation cannot be a reaction to anything you have or haven't done since.EPHESIANS 1:3"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ."
Last week, we sat in the weight of what that narrowing cost. Aaron, standing at the front of the camp, the only man authorized to speak what an ordinary Israelite could not yet speak over their own household. And I asked you to name something - a place where you are still living like you're waiting on Aaron. Waiting on someone else's word before you'll believe you're allowed to move.Hold onto that. We are going to come back to it before we close today.Because something happened that changes everything about who is allowed to carry this blessing - and it did not happen quietly.
Every good thing that reached you, reached you through somebody else's mouth, somebody else's office, somebody else's proximity to the holy place that you yourself were not permitted to enter.Imagine carrying that for a lifetime - knowing the blessing was real, knowing it was yours, and still needing another human being's voice to release it over you every single time.That is not a small thing to feel. Don't let today's sermon end without feeling the actual weight of it.
A spoken blessing in Scripture is never sentiment. It is a binding, self-executing reality that God holds Himself responsible to bring to pass — sometimes generations after the words are spoken. We will see this same principle again in a few weeks when we reach Numbers 6
I want to start today not with a verse. I want to start with a question most of us have never thought to ask: why does God bless you before He ever tells you what to do?We're going to answer that from two words in Genesis 1 — two Hebrew words most people who have read the Bible many times have never stopped to examine. Words that sit side by side in the opening chapter of Scripture and contain between them the entire theology of what God has done for you and what He expects of you as a result.Don't worry about memorizing the Hebrew today. Just hold onto the idea: one word means "God created." The other means "God blessed." Everything this morning builds on the order those two things happen in.
There is a war being fought right now that has nothing to do with the size of what you're holding. It has everything to do with what your enemy thinks you're holding.Samaria is under siege. Famine has reached the point of horror — a donkey's head sells for eighty shekels of silver (2 Kings 6:25). The king is ready to execute the prophet who dared to say deliverance was a day away. And outside the gate sit four men nobody is counting: lepers, quarantined, starving, with nothing left to lose. "Why sit we here until we die?" (2 Kings 7:3).They rise at twilight and walk toward the Aramean camp expecting either mercy or death. What they find is an empty camp — tents still standing, silver and gold still stacked, food untouched. The army that had strangled a nation for months is gone.
Application questions● What has God said over your life that you've quietly filed under "that was for someone else, or some other season"?●Where are you waiting for the situation to change before you'll believe the word — instead of trusting the word to change the situation?● What is your version of "rising and moving toward the camp" — the step of cooperation the word is waiting on, not to make it true, but to let what's already true reach you?Closing line"The word was never the uncertain part. You were. Rise."
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.
By the time Jesus describes the fourth soil He has already told you everything you need to know about why the other three fail.The wayside person heard but could not grasp — the word arrived in a territory where understanding had not yet been opened, and before it could take root the enemy snatched it. The rocky ground person received with genuine joy but never allowed the word to complete its journey from the ear to the heart's deposit — emotion fired but meditation never crystallised it into conviction. The thorny ground person had real faith, real growth, but competing agreements were running alongside the word and making equal claim on the heart's allegiance — the word was present but it was not governing.Three soils. Three different points of failure. Three different places where the four-stage process broke down before it could complete.And then Jesus says this:But these are the ones sown on good ground — those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.
Why Two Believers Can Hear the Same Message and Get Completely Different ResultsHave you ever wondered why two people can sit under the same preaching, read the same Bible, and ten years later one is walking in breakthrough while the other is still circling the same mountain?Jesus answers this question in the Parable of the Sower. "I want to talk to you today about the most powerful real estate on earth. It's not your postcode. It's not your portfolio. It is the 10 centimetres of spiritual territory inside your chest called your heart — because whoever or whatever controls that territory controls everything that flows from your life."'And It Was So'Return to Genesis 1. After God spoke, the text records: 'And it was so.' What had been declared was now forming. There was a moment between the word and the appearance — a formation stage.• God's word was spoken → it entered the formless void → it began to organise and form → it then appeared.• A voice speaks to you → it enters your heart → if received, it forms into belief → it then appears in your life.
Whose Voice Are You Agreeing With?
A. God is auditing His own portfolio.Psalm 50 is a court scene. God is speaking to His people. And in verse 10, He does something remarkable: He does not make a general statement about His power. He reads from the inventory. Every beast of the forest. The cattle on a thousand hills.Why cattle? Because in the ancient world, cattle were liquid capital. They were currency, collateral, commercial value, and provision simultaneously. When God says the cattle on a thousand hills are His, He is not talking about animals. He is talking about the complete asset register of the created order — expressed in the commercial language of His audience.① Every beast of the forest — the unmanaged, undomesticated, unclaimed resources. The ones outside the visible market. The ones no human portfolio has yet registered.② The cattle on a thousand hills — not the cattle on the hills you can see from where you are standing. A thousand hills. The full breadth of the terrain across the entire created order.

Today we are going to read the title deed, audit the inventory, and start administering accordingly. INTRO. The Tenant and the HeirThere are two ways to inhabit a property. You can live there as a tenant — paying rent, asking permission, operating within the boundaries set by the landlord, negotiating for what you need, always aware that ultimately this is someone else's house and you are here on agreed terms. Or you can live there as the heir — the one who has legal title to the estate, who administers it on behalf of the Owner, whose entitlement is not bounded by a designated allocation but by the total value of what the estate contains.Most of the Church is living in the world as tenants. Asking for what they need. Hoping the landlord will provide. Bracing for shortage. Negotiating from a position of dependence. And the tragedy is not that they are outside the covenant. The tragedy is that they are heirs who do not know they are heirs — living on an estate they own, paying rent they do not owe, for resources that already belong to themThree texts. One message. By the time we are finished today, I want you to know three things with operational precision: who owns the estate, what the estate contains, and why you are the heir of it.How many of you have ever prayed for something and wondered whether God had budgeted for it? Whether the request was too large? Whether this specific need was in the designated allocation or outside it?That is the tenant question. Today I want to give you the heir's answer.
Today I want to talk about the solution to these symptoms – The Heir Life. To appreciate the heir life, you have to understand how it came about.Let's go to the book of beginning: When God made Adam, he was a son of God (Luke 3:38) – and this means he was made to steward the resources of the earth but you know the story, Adam sold out to the devil – and he lost the ability connect to God at the spirit level. He became afraid of God with the mindset of an orphan.Since a human sinned, another human had to pay the price required but no one could be found in the sons of Adam because every one born of Adam inherited his nature – the nature of sin.
In our last message — The River Within — we established that God designed you not to collect His blessing but to conduct it. We discovered El Elyon: God Most High,Possessor of heaven and earth — and we saw how the revelation of His ownership is the cure for the hoarding mindset.Today we go one level deeper. Because knowing that God owns everything is only half the revelation. The other half is this:Everything God owns has been appointed to an Heir. And you are in that Heir.El Elyon tells you about the Source. The Heir revelation tells you about your access to the Source. Together, they form the complete theological foundation for a life of overflow.
I want to begin with a question. A very simple question.Have you ever felt dry — even though you believed God was in you?Have you ever found yourself going through the motions of faith — praying the rightprayers, attending the right services, singing the right songs — and yet feeling like something inside you had stopped flowing?Not necessarily sinful. Not backslidden. Just… dry. Like a tap that is turned on, but nothing comes out.If that's ever been you — even for a season — I want you to know: you are not broken.You are blocked. And there is a difference.

When we pray, we usually only ask for enough to cover our immediate need.The Shift: In heaven's economy, God rarely provides just enough.The Big Idea: Overflow doesn't start in your bank account; it starts in your capacity. WHAT IS SPIRIT-LED ACCELERATION?Spirit-Led Acceleration is when God, by His Spirit, moves a person, purpose, or outcome faster than natural processes, without striving, confusion, or disorder—to fulfill divine purpose.It is not haste.It is not pressure.It is God's timing expressed with speed. An escalator is a moving staircase—steps keep circulating, and it carries youupward.An elevator is a lift—once you step in, it raises you to levels you couldn't reach onyour own.
What Is Grace, Really?We talk about grace a lot, but what is this thing called grace?Grace captures the goodwill, lovingkindness, and favour of God freely given to us so that we may partake in His divine life.Grace is God's divine aid that supernaturally empowers you to be who He made you to be.
Devotional Reflection:Did you notice the word "constantly" in today's scripture? What does that even mean? It means there was never a time, there is no time, and there will never be a time when Jesus is not loving you. He constantly loves you, regardless of the circumstances. His love doesn't fluctuate based on your behaviour—it's constant, even when you make mistakes.But that's not all. He didn't just stop at loving you—He also loosened you from your sins. In the same breath of love, your sins are cancelled. His love for you drove Him to the cross, where He sacrificed Himself to forgive you. The love of Christ and the forgiveness of sins are inseparable. They are two sides of the same coin.
Loved before time began In John 17:24–26, we get a glimpse of something deeply personal: Jesus praying not only for His disciples, but for all who would one day believe in Him, including us. Right before the cross, when he could have been focused on His own suffering, He turned His eyes to the Father and prayed for our future. “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory.” That is His heart's desire. That we would one day stand in His presence, face to face, seeing His glory with our own eyes. This isn't just about someday in heaven; it's about knowing that even now we are being drawn into a love so deep and eternal that it started before the world began.Jesus reminds us that the Father loved Him before creation, and that same love is being poured into us. Think about how steady that love is, before time, before our mistakes, before our doubts, God's love was already flowing, and Jesus came so that we could experience it. He doesn't want us to just know facts about God; He wants us to feel the reality of His love living inside us, shaping us, and giving us strength when life feels heavy. This means that no matter what we're facing—loneliness, fear, rejection, confusion—we are never actually abandoned. We are wrapped up in a love that has no end, and Jesus Himself is living within us.
