Former U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) Tax Division Trial Attorney Mark Milton and legendary radio personality and entertainer Asher Benrubi (“The Smash”) have teamed up to help the common man navigate an ever-increasingly complex legal, regulatory, and tax environment, while also discussing personal finance, current events, and politics. Guests include local and national business leaders, politicians, lawyers, professional athletes, and entertainers. Milton earned his accounting degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and law degree from St. Louis University. After law school, he was selected to participate in the DOJ’s Attorney General’s Honors Program in Washington, D.C., where he represented the IRS in complicated tax matters throughout the country and earned the DOJ Tax Division’s Outstanding Trial Attorney Award. A native of Belleville, Illinois, Milton returned home to the St. Louis area in 2014 and spent three years practicing with Husch Blackwell’s Government Compliance, Investigations, and Litigation team. In 2017, Milton started his own firm dedicated to helping clients resolve their tax problems and has become known locally at “The STL Tax Lawyer.” Milton has appeared regularly on a St. Louis morning drive radio show, “The Morning After,” giving listeners tax advice during his popular “Tax Tuesday” segments. The Smash started his radio career in 1977, working for some of America’s best radio stations in Indianapolis, D.C., and St. Louis, even once filling in for Robin on the Howard Stern Show. As an early VJ (video jockey) on MTV, his “Headbangers Ball” interview with “Guns n Roses,” where they proceeded to tear down the studio, was designated by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of “The Top 40 Greatest Moments In MTV History.” Through his early days at KSHE-95, “Smash Around Town” on Fox 2 News, and his “Smash Band” performances, Smash has spent more than 30 years entertaining St. Louisans. In recognition of his more than 30 years of community service, then St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay proclaimed January 29, 2016 as “Asher Benrubi/Smash Day” in the Gateway City. A troubled taxpayer himself due to circumstances beyond his control, Benrubi and Milton crossed paths at a Subway in Des Peres. Benrubi noticed Milton’s “STLTaxLawyer” logo-wrapped F-150 in the parking lot, introduced himself, and a friendship (eventually a podcast) was born over foot-long sandwiches.
