Send Me A Text Message I would love to know where you are listening to me from!!Hello again Fellow Golfists, I wanted to share that I had a great outing to the driving range at Sacramento National on 3.22.25.  I also wanted to share that I had a great time practicing with my new Scottie Scheffler Inspired / Style 5 iron with the correctly molded grip to enhance the attention that needs to be paid to having proper golf fundamentals.  I used a Golden Ram Tour Grind Axial 5 iron.    I also had a good session with my Honma CL 708 Forged blades that I had recently reshafted with a set of Precision FM 6.5 shafts that were originally in my Golden Ram Tour Grinds.  And once I made it to the practice green I had a good session with my Wilson 8802 and my PING B61 putter.  I also had the chance to meet someone who is considered a golf institution in the greater Sacramento area.  His name is Clyde Daniels.  Mr. Daniels was able to briefly share with me a few stories of what it was like to visit The Masters, organize a junior golf clinic with Charlie Sifford, and see Calvin Peete in his prime at the 1982 US Open at Pebble Beach.  Not to mention, he was able to qualify and play in the Transamerica at Silverado Golf Resort in Napa California, which was a stop on the PGA Champions Tour circuit. Thank you for listening to The Knackered Golfist Podcast.      Support the show#theknackeredgolfistpodcast@theknackeredgolfistCheck out The Knackered Golfist on YouTubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheKnackeredGolfistThis episode brought to you by the Forged Golf Club Appreciation page on FacebookOughton's Golf Repairhttps://oughtonsgolf.com/#myscorecardThank a Veteran Today!!https://www.pgareach.org/services/militaryThe Observant Ear Radio Network GOD Bless You!!

The greatest male Mexican professional of all time with over 700 PGA Tournaments under his belt, graces our show to share his remarkable journey from humble beginnings – a childhood devoid of plumbing and adorned with dirt floors. He discusses the unwavering determination demanded on the PGA Tour, a path that emerged after a stint in boxing cut short by appendicitis, where he first learned of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he sold golf balls for a living, even resorting to unconventional methods like fishing them out of ponds with his feet. Starting his golfing journey with just one club, a 7 iron, he encountered a turning point upon meeting John & Rita Minnis, whose impact on his life was profound.Turning professional in 1986, he faced the grueling Q School a dozen times, contemplating quitting in 1993. However, he persevered, overcoming adversity to clinch victory in May 2013, becoming the first Mexican to triumph on the PGA Champions Tour on Cinco de Mayo, an achievement dedicated to his late brother. He shares the significance of celebrating victories with a left hook and delves into the current state of golf in Mexico, seamlessly transitioning to discussing his passion project – The Esteban Toledo Foundation, aiding orphaned and foster care children through initiatives like the "Home of Love" facility. We delve into his future, his poignant reflection on the meaning of "nothing," and his outlook on life after golf. Football season may be over, but ESPN would make you think otherwise with their coverage of the XFL (45:57). The guy's alma mater continues to win in college hockey, but is mysteriously not the top team in the country (47:20). As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex gets sloppy with a mac & cheese burger, while Michael has an adventure for his Valentine's night out (48:16). On this week's edition of the podcast we had three global wins to celebrate as this little island of ours continued to punch well above its weight on golf's world stage. Shane Lowry's victory at the DP World Tour's flagship event at Wentworth will live long in the memory as he got the better of Rory McIlroy down the stretch to claim another mega win. Not to be outdone and clearly inspired, Lowry's great friend Pádraig Harrington picked up his hat-trick of PGA Champions Tour wins on Sunday night while a weekend of unprecedented celebrations began with Stuart Grehan claiming a maiden EuroPro win after a seven-hole epic playoff battle against Ballymena's Dermot McElroy. There was plenty to recap at home too, including a magnificent course-record win for Liam Grehan at Millicent and the latest from the AIG Cups and Shields. As ever, we hope you enjoy the listen. The 3M Open in Minnesota lacked big star power, but the one of the top ranked players notched his second win in under a year as Tony Finau claimed victory. Hosts Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell ponder what's in Finau's future (1:33). The PGA Champions Tour held their Senior Open at Gleneagles, where former Open Champion Darren Clarke held off Padraig Harrington's push for a second Senior major this season (4:28). The LPGA was in France for the Amundi Evian Championship, where Canadian Brooke Henderson claimed his second career major victory and the third woman's major of the season (5:59). Praise is due to past guest Taylor Montgomery, who first appeared on the pod back in April of 2020, and now has locked up his PGA Tour Card for the 2023 season (8:28). LIV Golf gears up for their third tournament this week at Bedminster, with a few new faces on the course, rumors swirling about a massive deal for Hideki Matsuyama, and the biggest splash of them all: David Feherty into the broadcast booth (9:43). The PGA Tour now heads to Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which includes some big names as a tune-up to the upcoming FedEx Cup Playoffs (16:19). In Tuned In, Michael shares the fun he had at Disney World, while Alex was in baseball heaven as his Red Sox favorite David "Big Papi" Ortiz was enshrined in Cooperstown (18:54). This week's guest is Matt Cardis, a photographer and content creator known for living in a van and playing golf all over the country. Matt shares stories from the van, his favorite golf courses, and what's in store in the future (22:48). A childhood favorite is coming to an end, and Michael and Alex are in shock that its happening (48:11). The NFL Training Camps are coming back, and while Michael is not excited at all, Alex cannot get enough of it (50:27). The Charles Schwab Challenge ended in a playoff featuring the two hottest golfers on Tour, and Sam Burns beat good friend Scottie Scheffler to claim another win on his 2022 season. Hosts Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell check in on Burns' performance, and Alex wonders if a personal appointment kept Scheffler from the winner's circle (1:42). The LIV Tour was supposed to finally drop names for it's upcoming tournament in London, but instead has once again put off naming names. Michael wonders if the Saudi-backed tour will ever take flight (6:20). The PGA Champions Tour, 50 year old Kiwi Steven Alker is making a claim as being the hottest golfer out there, as he carded a final round 63 to claim the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship (8:11). In Las Vegas, the Bank of Hope Match Play saw a former major-winner notch her ticket to the LPGA's US Open as Eun-Hee Ji took down the bracket. And now attention turns to the Women's US Open at Pine Needles and its $10 million purse (9:16). The Match returns this week, and it totally snuck up on Alex and Michael, as it featured no professional golfers, in favor instead of a bunch of bored NFL quarterbacks (11:48). The PGA Tour heads to Jack's place for the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, and as usual, it's a completely loaded field (14:30). The Course of Life Book Club is back! Join in as the guys read "Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf's Most Colorful Superstar)" by Alan Shipnuck. After reviewing chapter one and everyone's favorite "Phil Mickelson story," the guys will dive into chapters 2-4 for next week (15:45). In Tuned In, Michael returned to the movie theatre to catch the phenomenal multiverse flick, "Everything Everywhere All At Once," while Alex is all in on the hyper for "Top Gun: Maverick" (18:44). This week's guest is Jay Card III, a pro on the Korn Ferry Tour, who shares with Alex stories about his time singing all over the world, winning a Monday Qualifier, and his favorite lucky shirt (22:04). The NBA Playoffs head to the finals as the guys' hometown Boston Celtics will take on the defending champions in the Golden State Warriors (49:33). In baseball, the Boston Red Sox seem to be on a bit of a hot streak, but Michael's New York Yankees are still far-and-away the best team in the American League (51:14). As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is enjoying the simple Memorial Day BBQ, while Michael is putting bacon into his bread (52:45). This is an encore episode with Rich Beem, winner of the 2002 PGA Championship, one of professional golf's four major tournaments. Despite having won twice on tour prior to the PGA, Rich's win at Hazeltine was as unlikely as the groovy dance moves he busted out after sinking his final putt of the tournament. Describing himself as “the luckiest guy in the world,” Rich played the game loose and wide open, but the rising expectations of being a major champion became a distraction, and he never won again on tour. In this chat, Rich speaks candidly about: Selling car stereos and grinding his way up the golf ladder, Finding purpose and meaning in life as his PGA prospects began to dim.  The reason he tells his son that “what you shoot is not you” Why he loves working as an analyst at Sky Sports Rich was born in Phoenix, AZ, grew up in El Paso, TX and played college golf at New Mexico State University. Quitters never win. We need to win the hearts and minds of the American people. Don't quit on democracy. Defeat Donald Trump.   America is not Trump's country club.
