Look. It's been an ugly year and a half. The only positive thing to come out of this time for so many of us has been the music put out by brave creatives, channeling our emotions into song and connecting us in a time when we need connection more than ever. Grayscale is one of those artists. With the release of their latest album, Umbra, they've managed to take pop punk in a whole new direction, avoiding capitalizing off of the rise of a formulaic genre and instead taking it into new territory. Their raw and honest lyrics, often dark, sometimes hopeful, soar over the top of their impressive musicality. If you're not yet listening to Grayscale, you should be. Enjoy. Bryce Avary, aka The Rocket Summer, wrote, recorded, and produced his first full length album Calendar Days in 2003, at the age of 20. Since then, he has released six additional full length albums, as well as numerous EPs, B-sides, and singles. For any fan of pop-punk or pop-rock, The Rocket Summer is a must-listen. Avary's music is melodic, powerful, catchy, and full of metaphors about faith, love, and the beauty to be found in life's struggles. Even Harry Styles is a fan of The Rocket Summer, so clearly you should be too! On this episode, I take you album by album, sharing my favorite songs and explaining what they mean and why I think they deserve your attention. Rock on, friends. In Loving Memory of Wrecked (TBS): 2016-2018. This three-season series canceled in its prime details the life and times of a group of complete strangers, stranded on a deserted island after surviving a plane crash. Sound like Lost? That's because it is a directly parody of the hit drama, spoofing all of the bizarre happenings in an absolutely hilarious way. The ensemble cast shines as each new season takes the story in a different direction, leaving viewers wanting more. This underrated comedy saw a dip in ratings due to its release on cable TV, but it was made for streaming. In Loving Memory of Heat Vision & Jack (FOX): The cult-classic 1999 pilot never ordered to series. This epic sci-fi thriller spoof was directed by Ben Stiller, and starred Jack Black, Owen Wilson, & Ron Silver. It was created by Dan Harmon, the mind behind another cult show, Community, and was something ahead of its time - or, in other words, beyond the network's capacity for marketing. A show that would thrive on Adult Swim today, Heat Vision & Jack died before ever reaching the air. All we have of the Knight Rider knock off is one 30-minute episode with the most expensive soundtrack of all time, and special effects only a mother could love. Thanks to the charity table reading of the pilot that took place during quarantine, the show is more popular than ever, and today's episode briefly recaps exactly what made it so great. . . . Well, shave my poodle! This month's edition of Throwback Thursday is a love letter to the wonderfully weird world of Stuckeyville, and my favorite comedy drama of all time, NBC's Ed. Ed ran from 2000-2004 and chronicled the life of Edward J. Stevens, a New York City lawyer who moves back to his hometown, buys the local bowling alley, and tries to win the heart of his high school crush. It starred Tom Cavanagh, Julie Bowen, and my guest on the podcast today, Michael Genadry, who played Mark Vanacore, the sidekick to Justin Long's Warren Cheswick, on all four seasons of the show. Join us as he shares his journey getting into acting, behind the scenes stories, memories from the set, and answers the 17 year long question -- will we EVER get to see Ed on DVD or streaming?
