Diddy was a sack of garbage even BEFORE we learned about him being a sexual deviant assaulting waste of humanity.
August 15-21, 1987 In a shocking move, this week Ken welcomes a guest BACK to Reid Manor for a LIVE recording not via satellite, it's old friend, author, bass player of Pete Holmes' favorite Boston punk band and fellow punk rock kid, Tripp Underwood. You want more? YOU GOT IT! Plenty of tangents, arts and crafts, and more swear words than usual make this bonus episode go to eleven (apologies to Nigel Tufnel). Further One Crazy Summer discussion, plus we talk about synthesizers, MIDI, PageMaker, organizing your movies nicely on shelves, George Clooney's Up in the Air, packing and moving, murals, paint and emotion, beer can designs, sketchbooks versus laptops, NYC's Strand Book Store, Bill Murray's brother Joel, and if you listen closely you'll hear Jason's pugs barking in the background every so often.
Savage Steve Holland's One Crazy Summer has mostly been overlooked, or forgotten, a shame since it blends genres and media into a big sweet, salty, and sometimes spicy milkshake of a movie. Guilty pleasure? Not quite, according to Mike Wirth who wonders, "Why couldn't John Cusack's Hoops McCann have been Hoops Leibowitz?" A Southern, Jewish-American originally from New York, Mike focuses on social justice and identity, fusing complex and personal issues and influences into his art. This autumn, he leads a community mural project with the Charlotte Jewish Federation, commemorating those lost on October 7th. His information design "How Our Laws are Made" was featured on the Daily Show blog in 2011, and lives on at Wikipedia. Listen in as we discuss whammy animations, world-in-world experiences, Better Off Dead, Grosse Pointe Blank, Singles, Chainsaw Date and Hemorrhoids from Hell, Bobcat Goldthwait, comic book icons Archie and Betty and Veronica, and The Goonies, plus silly sequel and prequel ideas for One Crazy Summer.

To say "One Crazy Summer" is an acquired taste is a fair assessment of our review this time around. Not the ideal choice for the inaugural FYC review from John Cusack's film portfolio. Some solid comedy from Bobcat Goldthwait and a classic 80s soundtrack can't really bring your FYC hosts to agree on whether this is a true summer classic. Let us know your thoughts on the movie and if you agreed with our review!

Welcome fellow Joy Riders to the Masculine Journey Joyride Podcast! On this podcast you will hear funny stories, exchanges, and thought provoking moments that will amuse you, make you smile, and draw you closer to Jesus Christ in your journey of life. Hey Joyriders! This week the guys have a discussion about not looking back. The clip is from the movie "One Crazy Summer."
High Fidelity, based on the novel by Nick Hornby, tells the story of Rob Gordon (John Cusack), a thirtysomething record store owner and living embodiment of a certain type of insufferable pop culture obsessed dude (I TYPED WHILE HOSTING A PODCAST ABOUT SKATEBOARD MOVIES) as he navigates love, ex-love, and maybe – JUST MAYBE – figuring out that what someone is like is more important than what they like. Also: someone skateboards in it at one point. Kevin and Mike discuss the movie and their own relationship with being pop culture obsessives, the book, the time Kevin saw the very weird musical adaptation of this, and what High Fidelity had to say about certain types of toxic behaviors when it came out vs. what it has to say now. They go deep and confessional about their pasts while also trying to figure out what a musical adaptation of One Crazy Summer would be like. It's that type of episode.

With a killer 80s cast and an innovative director, One Crazy Summer should have been a hit, but it may have just been too weird for audiences of the time. Still, it struck a chord for Dan & Jon, so 171 episodes in - why not cover it?Contact us, follow us on social media, or buy some merch at linktr.ee/RuinedChildhoodsNext episode: Wolf (1994)
This 80's flick is sometimes described as “Better Off Dead Goes To The Beach” because it reunites young leading man John Cusack with writer-director Savage Steve Holland for a tale of teenage angst and the quest to find love. This time the quest takes us to Nantucket where our lead gets involved with cute and fuzzy bunnies, snobby preppies, insane mechanics, a killer dolphin with rabies, and a hippie-ish singer about to lose her house to a very rich lobster restaurant magnate. So don't miss the ferry and don't forget to pay your tab for Granny's dinner as Tim Williams and guest co-host Nicholas Pepin from "Pop Culture Roulette" Podcast discuss “One Crazy Summer” on this episode of the 80's Flick Flashback podcast! Just like "One Crazy Summer" has no deleted scenes, we have no additional trivia from this episode. On our latest episode, Jamie tries to weigh exactly how much of this movie is crazy and how much is Summer, Doug marvels at just how great Jeremy Piven is at playing a piece of garbage in movies (and tv), and we both find our specific areas of expertise (for Jamie it's singing and for Doug it's nautical knowledge).
