Embarking on this journey it’s exactly that - a journey.. It has its ups and downs. And this past couple of days I have felt a little low because I am not close to my family. Normally if I was in Australia, I know my father would be able to come over and help me out, we could bounce back and forth ideas and do some work together. It’s hard to see him sometimes helping my step-sister who only lives down the street from him, and I am on the land here on my own. The truth of it is he would be here in a heartbeat if he was closer, and probably so much more than I would want him to! I have chosen Bali (or I sometimes think Bali chose me) and it’s just one of the sacrifices I have made. The truth is though, according to Demartini, or so my friend says, is that nothing is missing - these dynamics turn up in other ways. And that is true. I have what I call my “Mountain Family” - a community of like-minded souls that I get along with and we all help each other! I also have a Bali Family, the landowner, who is helping me so much. I am truly supported on this journey! The reality is, in some moments, I really miss my fam. But one day the borders will open and they will get to come to see what I am embarking on! So I just have to ride these low moments and get through them - because after a low, often there is a high!... so let’s see what is around the corner!Join me for this week's podcast ponderings...Learn more: https://thrivingwithnature.com Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/thrivingwithnatureJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
I’ve always sat on the outskirts of village life in Bali. I’ve seen their amazing community and felt the warmth that they share when joining in on a ceremony, however, I’ve never been part of the village. I’ve also noticed how they really work together a lot. Whether preparing for a ceremony, harvesting, they are chattering away and connecting together. Now I’m part of a community I am starting to notice my old western ways of “wanting to do it on my own” and this is “my” land… etc. Balinese don’t think that way, they really do live a life of “Together we are Better”.So when they were naturally offering to help me, I could feel a resistance come up… but it’s an old way, a part of my ego I choose to let go of..Join me for this week's episode as I ponder what came up for me during a moment of this...Learn more: https://thrivingwithnature.com Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/thrivingwithnatureJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature

In some ways, life has changed a lot.. it’s much quieter here, there is a general serenity that flows as opposed to the constant hum and drum of renovations and tourist town life. I have heightened awareness in my survival instincts due to living in an ecosystem of nature with its animals and insects. I also feel the fresh air and clean rainforest filtered freshwater that helps to bring a foundational level of health which is wonderful..On the other side, as I work online that part of my life hasn’t changed too much… although power going out and wifi stopping a couple of times a day can happen, but it forces me to stop and breath which is pleasant…I feel a lot more present in my life than I have in a while and that I put down to the removal of so many distractions… I explain it further in this week's podcast episode... Living up here in the jungles of Bali, I am surrounded by beautiful villages filled with local Balinese people. It is another world to be up here and one thing I am really careful about is making sure I come into this place with an open mind and open heart.I believe a part of Regenerative Living is the social side of it - the humanity side of it. Understanding the traditional culture, learning about how they lived and live now; how they farmed and farm now.How do they understand and manage waste, how does the village run and make decisions. This is all very new to me, and before I work out how I can help contribute to this village, the first place is to understand the social aspect. And then only if and when it flows, how can I contribute to helping inspire others to live in harmony with Nature, where they may not be… for all I know there could be amazing aspects and traditions that help me learn how to Thrive with Nature..So it’s a learning process… a journey. Regenerative Living is not a destination, it's a living story of humans and decisions and co-creation. As the US elections are battling it out, I try not to get too caught up in the politics of it all. The reason is I don’t believe that it can move fast enough to help change and turn the future of this planet around. What I do believe is if we, the everyday person, chooses to live a regenerative lifestyle then we can make the greatest change in the quickest time.I like to use the example of a Mango Tree compared to a Human. Mango Trees get their energy from renewable resources, the waste they produce helps the rest of the ecosystem and they produce no actual waste that can’t be used. So, as a human, how can we move our lives to be more like this? There are three areas we can focus on:● Energy● Waste● Clean UpListen to today's episode so you can learn how to be more and more part of a regenerative world, that is a world Thriving with Nature, than one that is destroying it. Let’s take this matter into our own hands and change the world!Links I discuss in the episode:Make Soil - www.makesoil.org - is a compost organisation to find where you can help build soil rather than methane wasteHome Biogas - www.homebiogas.com - check out how you can turn your waste into energy!Learn more: https://thrivingwithnature.com Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/thrivingwithnatureJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
A thin layer of mould had started to grow across some of my wooden furniture here in the cabin and I was starting to feel the pressures of nature’s natural desire to take over… when I wiped the mould away with water it didn’t do anything. I didn’t want to use chemicals for health reasons (for both myself and nature) and so I needed to find a way to solve it… and I did! So much so the areas I used this solution are still mouldless and the one spot I miss has the thin layer of mould on it still… join me as I share my solution and other ponderings of a regenerative focused mind...Learn more: https://thrivingwithnature.com Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/thrivingwithnatureJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature

Nature is beautiful and spectacular. It has serene energy - most of the time. But there is the crux or apex where Nature’s beauty all comes crashing together in the moment of life and death. For one species to survive it often has to eat or kill another. Not necessarily annihilate the entire species but just eat one here and there for it’s own survival. Life and Death must occur for the greater good of the whole ecosystem. The branches and leaves of the trees, as they die they become food for the microbes who in turn, alchemise them into nutrients for the plants around there. There is a beauty in this life and death - but I still struggle with the “okayness” of it all. Today I witnessed a frog being eaten by a snake. I couldn’t watch. I was empathising with the prey, the victim. But it made me think - why not also celebrate that that snake will get to survive another day because it was smarter than its prey.In today’s podcast I contemplate the beauty in this transition and battle in nature… join me and feel free to share your comments below in any of my sites - I’d love to hear what comes up for you after you hear the episode!I am part of the Heal Thy Self TRiBE as an educator. I first met Scott when I stayed at his farm, Gabalah Syntropic Farm, in Northern NSW in 2019. I had the opportunity to plant a new crop row, or what we call Consortium in Syntropic Agroforestry. In those few days I was there I learnt a lot about the practical side of Syntropic Agroforestry. I even recorded an Introduction to Syntropic Agroforestry video on the farm that you can see on my YouTube Channel here.In today's episode, I got to sit down with Scott and talk about how this methodology is about understanding that we are part of the system and that we should always look at the happenings inside the consortiums as a whole of the macro-organism. Rather than address individual issues, have a look at what the entire macro-organism is doing, and respond with that in mind. Scott shares an example with Zucchini and Tamarillo which is quite interesting. I recently read an article titled “Children raised in greener areas have a higher IQ” it said that “The analysis of more than 600 children aged 10-15 showed a 3% increase in the greenness of their neighbourhood raised their IQ score by an average of 2.6 points. The effect was seen in both richer and poorer areas”It made me think about some of the things Anastasia talks about in her book about how children who at an early age start interacting with Nature will become geniuses. She said it is because of the connection with nature inspires a cognitive development for the child… provokes their brain to awaken and contemplate what is happening. An email I received recently from The Ringing Cedar Series talked about the ideas of how plants are more conscious than we realise and it made me think about it all and how it all could be connected… so join this week's episode to contemplate nature and children.I am part of the Heal Thy Self TRiBE as an educator. Buckminster Fuller said “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something build a model that makes the existing model obsolete”The world right now is at extremes… we have states in tight lockdown and some places walking around freely. There is fear and there is anger about the way things are. People are split on what to do. Some are angry at the man, some just suffer in silence… and some feel positive about the way things are handled. The Buckminster fuller quote aligns with me so much, and I feel if we want to find some kind of way to move forward in a world that cares for the planet, cares for the people and has fair share that we could align ourselves with the principles of Permaculture, as one system that I think could bring a bit more harmony in the world.I go through the principles in this episode and contemplate the ideas that come up… join me and feel free to share what thoughts come up for you on my website or in any of my social media platforms… To come join the conversation and share your thought, click here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/?p=1407Come Join me in TRiBE for exclusive classes in the garden: Learn more: https://thrivingwithnature.com Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/thrivingwithnatureJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
Imagine slowly waking to the sounds of tropical birds whistling and chattering away to each other. You step outside onto the balcony and sit in the daybed and watch as the mist rises and the green jungle glistens in the sun. “As it turns out, the vast majority of bacteria in the soil and in our bodies benefit us. And throughout the history of life on land, microbes repeatedly deconstructed every piece of organic matter on the planet—leaves, branches, and bones—fashioning new life from the dead. Yet our relationship with the hidden half of nature remains modeled on killing it, rather than understanding and fostering its beneficial aspects. In waging war against microbes for the last century, we’ve managed to unwittingly chisel away much of the foundation on which we stand.” This week’s Podcast is with authors David Montgomery and Anne Bikle of The Hidden Half of Nature. As a Geologist and Biologist, together David and Anne provide a fascinating insight into the soil world and our human gut health. Shining the light on the little “Animalcules” (as Antoni van Leeuwenhoek called them) or Microbes that are a community of players that ultimately work in symbiotic relationships with both ourselves and plants in the soil.Guiding us to an understanding of the important role they play not just on this basic level, but globally as well. Join us on the discovery of how microbes originated to be inside us and how we can move forward with this new understanding on this week's episode. For more information on David and Anne: https://www.dig2grow.com/To get The Hidden Half of Nature on Amazon, click hereTo come join the conversation and share your thought, click here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/?p=1093Become a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thrivingwithnatureWatch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thrivingwithnatureJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
Buying fruits and vegetables is something we do every day. What if doing the same thing could actually reverse climate change, improve your health, and help change the entire food system? If there was a device that could tell you which fruits or vegetables had the highest nutrition, then you would naturally buy them. That would incentivize farmers to move to practices that aligned with Nature to improve their produce’s nutrition density. Well, guess what, there is! Dan Kittredge of the Bionutrient Food Association talks with me today about this revolutionary new device that is already in use today. To come join the conversation and share your thought, click here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/?p=1077Become a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thrivingwithnatureWatch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thrivingwithnatureJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
Regenerative gardening is not just about “fixing” the soil, it’s a complete mindset. Rather than trying to dominate or fight Nature, I believe we need to have a different way of thinking. If Nature seems to be “getting in your way”, if you don't have the right mindset, you could be missing out on an opportunity to help her flourish. In today’s podcast, I share some learnings I have been having with a garden that is overrun by pests, and how I am choosing to think to align with Nature. To come join the conversation and share your thought, click here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/?p=1054
In 1979 James Lovelock published a book called Gaia. It hypothesised that planet earth was a macro-organism that regulated itself across the millions of smaller systems that made up the whole. As a whole, we, as a human race, are almost compared as a virus or disease that needs to be healed otherwise we will cause the whole thing to collapse… or at least make ourselves extinct so Gaia can get back into balance. For us to get to a better place we need to shift our mindset from listening to our Primal Brain and start to plan and follow through with our Prefrontal Cortex. In today’s episode I discuss this idea and how we if we can master our minds, we could reverse our mistakes and truly thrive on this planet...Join the conversation here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/?p=1040Become a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thrivingwithnatureWatch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thrivingwithnature Join Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature

It’s oftentimes when we get knocked sideways that we can be reminded of what is important. Experiencing Dengue for the second time, I am reminded about how Nature achieves so much, yet doesn’t push for anything. It has it’s the delicate pace that often cannot be seen at all to be moving, yet blink an eye or come back after a day, and the evidence of growth is obvious. This week's ponderings is to invite us back to this pace - to BE with Nature.Join the conversation here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/2020/05/29/ep20-lets-be-with-nature/Find more on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCopkUzGtNNffoRA1-LP9tLg Join Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature

With so much polarised information out there about what is going on with COVID19 plaguing the planet, it can be so overwhelming as to what we “should” or “shouldn’t” be doing. For me at times like this I always go back to Nature. For me Mother Nature is my foundation of life. I am part of Nature and therefore choose to observe and learn from her. Our bodies are Nature and heal themselves, so what can we learn at this time about “immunising” ourselves. I explore my current opinion on what I feel is the best way moving forward by talking about what our immune system actually does and how we can help to strengthen it.Book I discuss is called “Eat Dirt!” By Dr Josh Axe https://amzn.to/3flsYWVJoin the conversation Here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/?p=805Find more on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCopkUzGtNNffoRA1-LP9tLg Join Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
This week's episode is all about microbes and my exploration of how my personal rice pollen allergy (Hayfever) I believe is linked to microbes inside my gut. Further to this, I explore the possibility of how to build on my microbes using the living supplement garden by growing a “grain box”.Let’s go down the rabbit hole of gut health and soil health into the world of microbes.Gut Health Playlist: HereJoin the conversation HereFind more on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCopkUzGtNNffoRA1-LP9tLg Join Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
Our understanding of Nature has barely touched the surface! And in some ways, we have moved away from bothering about understanding and decided to create outside of ourselves. In my opinion, I am finding that that is missing the point of our involvement with Nature. I feel technology can play a part in us helping to support Nature… but certainly not try and “improve” on Nature. In this week's episode of the Thriving with Nature Podcast I share my ponderings about Artificial Intelligence and how I feel we are missing the opportunity to understand our human capabilities by distracting us with “outside ourselves” technology...Gregg Braden “There is a battle for your very humanness”: https://youtu.be/7QAInsadnhMJoin the conversation here: https://thrivingwithnature.com/?p=759Find more on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCopkUzGtNNffoRA1-LP9tLg Join Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
Charles Massy has a plethora of personal experience and researched knowledge when it comes to regenerative agriculture: Working on his farm in the Snowy Mountain regions of Australia, completing his Ph.D. on Human Ecology and traveling the globe to meet like-minded farmers who have also shifted their farms and lifestyles towards regenerative agriculture methods. He takes you on a mind-altering journey in his recent book “The Call of the Reed Warbler”.In this interview, Charles shares about his own journey of “uncuffing” Mother Nature and learning to read his landscape and to “listen” to what she is telling him. Through the journey of industrial agriculture, having his own mind-altering experiences that birthed what he calls the Emergent Mind, into this new nature aligned way of living.Charles also shares how the Anthropocene Crisis we are in right now, with COVID19 being one of the results of the breakdown of these 9 systems, can all be reversed through Regenerative Agriculture. There is hope and through your own journey towards aligning with Nature, we truly can reverse this situation we find ourselves in. The first principle in Permaculture is “To Observe”.It’s not to fix things, it’s not to research… it’s to observe. To see what is happening. What are the behaviors of insects? What are the interactions of humans? where does the sunshine? And so on…Once again, from the micro level to the macro global level this can apply. From what is happening in your garden… to what is nature telling us right now with this pandemic?Join me in today’s episode where I share what I am observing both in my own backyard, right up to the situation the world finds it in right now.Remember to subscribe to the Podcast and share what you are observing right now by clicking the link below and commenting on the podcast show notes.Join the conversation here: Find more on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCopkUzGtNNffoRA1-LP9tLgJoin Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnature Follow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature

I believe that Nature has a Force. If you walk the path of Nature and align with the force, you will naturally be a healthy thriving person in a healthy thriving environment. However, if we stray from this path - either with our health, with our economy, with our environment, then leaving this force that THRIVES… we start to die. We start to fall apart. In today’s episode, I share a download inspired by a post from Zach Bush MD, where he talks about how businesses could thrive if we start with the end in mind. If we have Nature on our minds when we build it, and create a cyclical product/service.Join me on this path to learn about the Force of Nature itself to align ourselves for a much brighter future.Join the conversation on this Podcast Episode over at https://thrivingwithnature.com/category/podcast/Find more on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCopkUzGtNNffoRA1-LP9tLg Join Instagram: https://instagram.com/thrivingwithnatureFollow on Facebook: https://facebook.com/thrivingwithnature
