I always hoped I would find love again but I started to doubt if I ever would. The desire in my heart grew in the waiting but so did my loneliness and frustration. Was God hearing my prayers? How much longer would I need to wait? Was I asking for too much? Did God have a plan for me to love someone? And then one day Jesse walked into my life and the questions I had been asking started to get answered. God was making sense out of nonsense, no detail overlooked. God had been crafting and curating a love story, in His perfecting timing, and wait that now felt worth it. In this episode Jesse and I talk about: A full surrender that lead to finding and falling in love Dating from a male's perspective The evolution of dating from your teens to adulthood God's refinement in the waiting What it's like dating a widow The benefits and challenges of long distance dating Dating with intentionality Show notes.
33 and widowed. Something I never thought would be part of my story. I found love at a young age and skipped over the whole dating scene. I never imagined I'd be in the dating pool in my mid 30s after my husband Daryn passed away. I am absolutely, 100% the anti expert in dating but I hope that my experiences can provide the same survival guide of sorts that others have given me. Dating has been nothing like what I expected it to be. I remember feeling so clueless and awkwardly learning my way through the world of dating apps, first dates and meeting new people. It's been hard (like really hard) but also a crash course in learning so much about myself, what I was really looking for and trusting God with the outcome (that last one has been real tricky if I'm being honest...). In this (vulnerable) episode I talk about: - What I learned from my marriage to Daryn and how it kept my heart open to love again - Navigating dating apps and awkward first dates - Overcoming heart ache when things aren't as they seem - Lonely nights and feeling left behind - Guarding your heart in the waiting - The check list of what I finally learned to look for - What 90 days of surrender taught me and led me to (hint...who it led me to ;) ) Show Notes.
I wondered if I would ever come to a resting spot. Life has been moving in warp speed but also slow motion, constant chaos and heaviness. But also so much growth and refinement. So much leaning into God and learning about the depths of me through the depth of my creator. But then one day, ever so slowly the fog lifts. It's so subtle and drawn out you don't even notice it at first. The momentum slows and your world opens up again. The corners aren't as jagged. The pain isn't as drastic. The breaths aren't as shallow. I'm ok?! I'm ok. It's been so long since I felt this feeling. I want to close my fists around it but I know the secret is keeping them open to it. Tune in now as I share about moving into a new season, a new relationship and new roles as I reflect back on where I've been and where God's brought me now. Not because of anything I did or because I was deserving but because that's what God does: He remakes. He renews. He rebuilds. He restores. Show Notes.
A few years ago I was in one of my lowest moments. I was heartbroken and bitter and really, really angry. I felt like God had forgotten about me. I was in my quiet time and came across the question “When all I feel is darkness and everything in life feels hard, where are you?”. I sat back, crossed my arms and thought to myself, “Yeah, seriously God! Where are you?!”. The answer I found will not only surprise you but help you in the middle of your storm. In this episode I share: - The mantra I used to walk me through my hardest seasons - Where God is in the middle of your storm - How to find peace and reassurance when life feels anything but that - Cultivating a 30,000 foot perspective - How to move from a 'this' moment to a 'that' moment Show Notes

A heavy handed cocktail of trauma and grief, and yet the hope of Heaven never so real and the presence of God so near. Grief can bring clarity and alignment in ways nothing else can. With a new found depth of faith and purpose, Mike used life's hard things to ask ‘what' rather than ‘why'. Unlovable by Morey Ostlund is memoir meets how-to guide. In her book and this podcast she shares her story of childhood abandonment, sexual abuse and growing up in the foster system. This early childhood trauma led her down a path of self-sabotage and destruction, desperately seeking to fill the void in her heart with men, acceptance, status, and alcohol. At 40, Morey seemed to have it all by the world's standards, but still felt empty. Facing a second divorce, she finally came to the end of herself. When Morey quit searching for love in all the wrong places and took a chance on God, He was able to heal all her broken pieces. Listen now to hear Morey candidly share her struggles, getting raw, real, and vulnerable about everything from sexual abuse to domestic violence and even adultery. This conversation is for anyone who knows there HAS to be a better way to do life but doesn't know how to go about it. Click here to purchase Morey's book Unlovable and connect further with her. Small steps, over time create change. Change doesn't create itself in the snap of a finger or the wave of a magic wand. We can't transform overnight. We have to engage with the process. And before we can even do that we have to decide to engage in the process. We have to choose to choose different. But what does the process of transformation look like? How do we create actual lasting change and not a circular process that ‘starts again on Monday'? If we're not careful expectations can breed a conditional love. I don't want to be on the giving or receiving end of a conditional love because it's exhausting, restricting and insecure. My word for 2022 found me loud and clear a few months ago: NEW. In order to make room for new, we have to completely empty ourselves of our old stories, expectations, attitudes and behaviors that don't serve us moving forward. Because if any part of my capacity is filled with old I have less room to receive the fullness of God's new and best plan for me. It's scary to let go of what you know and what's grown comfortable but once I did I had peace but also an excitement. Excitement because I knew I was stepping into a new season where I was finally walking out the story I was always meant for. Tune in to hear how I'm starting this NEW season God showed me with all past hurt, chaos, stress and distractions eliminated so I can now walk in a NEW way. It's a NEW season. It's a NEW day and I can't wait to see what God is going to do with this new seed. Who is ready to step into a NEW season with me? Vulnerability. That was my word for 2021. I cringed when God brought this word up in me a year ago. Emotional exposure? No thanks. Hard pass. But every time I shut down the word it only got louder and louder, making it ever so obvious this was exactly what I needed to work on. I've spent my entire life protecting myself from the very word. I shut others out. I built a wall around my heart and a safe around my emotions. I tucked away my most inner thoughts and desires and ignored their very existence. But this year that all changed. Listen now to hear how vulnerability lead me to my biggest year of growth, transformation and breakthrough. Happy Thanksgiving friends! Can I be honest? I didn't want to make this podcast...gratitude was feeling more like a forced smile. But I knew that was the very reason I needed make it. I'm not naive to hard things. My passport has the stamps to prove it, just like yours probably does. I know the weight of hardship and all consuming hurt. Holidays can bring out the tender places and resurface our stories with twisted endings. Perhaps this year being thankful is the last thing you feel like subscribing to. Maybe being surrounded by family and friends with different stories than you feels cruel. Or maybe loneliness feels like it's taking you out at the knees. Friend, I see you and I hear you. We can't run from our stories and we can't erase our feelings. It's not one or the other, it's both/and. So many of us have stories with unresolved endings. The desires of our heart have gone unfulfilled to this point. No baby to hold, broken relationships, unhealed sickness, loneliness, lack of financial provision…it's just not the hand of life we wanted dealt to us. We can get stuck in the 'whys'....Why is my story different than I thought it would be? Why is this happening to me? Why won't others move towards me? It's challenged me to think, where is my source of joy? Have I placed it in circumstances instead of something dependable, reliable, consistent? Listen in and join the conversation with me as we talk about if it's all stripped away can it still be good? I don't fit in. I'm always overlooked. I feel so alone. No one sees me. I wish I had someone I could talk to that gets it. I don't belong anywhere. Nobody understands me. I feel out of sorts, invisible even. Every part of my story that's led me here now points to my not belonging here. I wonder if it's as obvious to me as it is to everyone else? I try to bury the thought but the emptiness has got my head twisted. It follows me around like a shadow. The lonely, sinking feeling always lurking over my shoulder to remind me that my pieces don't fit like everyone else's do. Listen now to hear Becky talk about what the lie 'nobody understands' is keeping us from believing and what can happen when we use our story to move towards people instead of away from them. I'm so behind. Everyone else has it figured out. What will other people think? How many likes and reactions will this post get? Everyone expects me to have it all figured out. What does everyone else think I should do? I fell victim to an invisible belief system years ago. The lie that ‘everyone's watching' speaks to the disease of people pleasing. We don't just want people to watch, we want them to approve. We want applause and affirmation. We want to win others over with our highlight reel and hope they don't notice the filters, editing and camera angles it took to produce the false product. Listen now to hear Becky talk about what the lie of 'everyone's watching' is keeping us from believing and what can happen when we stop prioritizing other people's perception over God's purpose. I am being punished for my past. You've got a busted story? Me too. Things didn't turn out the way you thought they would? Me too. Survived a broken heart? Me too. Made some serious mistakes in your past? Me too. Hurt those you love? Me too. Wish you could go back and play it out differently? Me too. Consuming, isn't it? To be caught on a loop that plays your mistakes over and over, frozen in a former world that hurts every time you touch it. The original scene plays out and now it's joined with sequel after sequel of the sub stories I've written about my ugly past. Some days I feel so distracted by what happened to me I forget that it also happened for me. I am not enough. You've heard it too? The unrelenting voice that plays on loop, preys on your weaknesses and refuses to retreat? Mine speaks loudest at night when my day is done and the highlight real plays back. “I wasn't a good enough mom. I wasn't a good enough friend. I didn't pursue my purpose enough. I didn't make a big enough difference today. I didn't love enough. I'm not fit enough. I didn't eat good enough. I wasn't patient enough. I wasn't productive enough. I didn't make enough money. My best will never be good enough.” The lies wash over me again and again. I wonder when they first started? Did I believe them right away or did they wear me down over time? How long did it take for me to mistake this lie for my truth? Tune in now to learn what these lies have in common, what they are trying to cover up and what are they keeping me from? Does your mindset need a reset? An unchecked thought life can be an incredibly destructive weapon. A lie is so sneaky. It starts small and grows slowly over time. We get used to hearing and believe these lies that they become comfortable, normal almost. We form mindsets around them and start to claim these lies as truth when really the lie is keeping us from our actual truth, God's truth. What lies have you grown to believe? What are your most dominate thoughts? Who in your life can help you speak to the lies when you can't trust your mindset? What does God say about who you are? Join me and 'self proclaimed' mindset expert Jason Pannell and we learn how to detect a lie, administer truth and build a different mindset. Can I be honest? Rest is a major struggle for me. In fact I'd like to consider myself the anti-expert of rest. Nothing about rest is easy, natural or even comfortable for me. I have believed the lie that rest is earned not gifted for a long, long time. What's the root of that? Why do I feel a constant need to preform and seek approval? What places and spaces am I finding my worth in that keeps me from rest? Join me by tuning into this episode and maybe, just maybe, we can figure this out together. In this four part series we will learn how to reset our capacity and not just find temporary rest but live from a lasting place of it.
