משיחת צום גדלי' (נדחה) – יהפך לשמחה – ה'תשד"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-10-2024 Synopsis (1) The descent of exile, when “He scattered them among the nations” and “they were exiled from their Father's table” – was the result of the Jewish people acting in a manner of discord and disconnectedness, the opposite of Ahavas Yisroel. But the purpose of the exile is for the subsequent ascent, the ingathering and unity of the entire Jewish people that will occur with the coming of Moshiach, which will be an even higher level than before the exile (as the Sages taught, it was a “The Holy One, blessed be He, did tzedakah for the Jewish people by scattering them among the nations”). The murder of Gedalia marked the utmost descent of exile, because now, whatever semblance of unity there had been before was destroyed, thus setting the platform for the subsequent ascent. Accordingly, we can understand the special quality Tzom Gedaliah will have over other fast days when they will be transformed to joy etc. (2) Regarding a deferred fast, our Rebbe'im would say, “May it be truly ‘deferred'” i.e., may it be abolished completely. This is especially emphasized in a year like this when 3 Tishrei falls out on Shabbos, so that the fast is deferred twice: from Rosh Hashana to 3 Tishrei (like every year), and then from 3 Tishrei to 4 Tishrei.Excerpt from sichah of Tzom Gedaliah (nidche) 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-10-2024 לע"נ הרה"ח הרה"ת הר"ר שניאור זלמן ב"ר נתן ע"ה גורארי'ליום היארצייט שלו יום א' דראש השנהת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

Yahrtzeit Yomi #1172!! כט אב First Skulener Rebbe רב אליעזר זוסיא בן ישראל אברהם פורטוגל נועם אליעזר האדמו״ר מסקולען (1898 - 1982) -------------------------------------------------- Shalom Uvracha Rabboisai!! Today (29 Av) marks the 42nd Yahrtzeit of the First Skulener Rebbe ZTL. We are honored to share with you the following beautiful content, including a heartwarming story regarding one of the more famous and triumphant niggunim of the rebbe ZTL, who was renowned as a prolific composer of music. On behalf of Yahrtzeit Yomi, we express our profound gratitude and appreciation to Reb Yaakov Brown, world-renowned Curator of Klal Yisrael, of Jewish Musical Notes fame, not only for his graciousness and selflessness in sharing his creative and sought-after material; but also for his loving friendship, endless encouragement and eternal loyalty. Aside from his own greatness in Torah, Tefillah and Avodas Hashem, the Skulener Rebbe might have been most recognized as the champion and leader of Jewish rescue. He sought to save and care for hundreds of children who were orphaned by the war, adopting them and raising them as his own. He and his holy Rebbetzin were known throughout the world as pillars of kindness, self-sacrifice and genuine Ahavas Yisroel. R' Eliezer Zusia was the son of HaGaon HaRav Yisroel Avraham Portugal ZTL; a descendant in a long line of great rabbanim that traced itself back to Rashi Hakadosh. At the end of his life, R' Yisroel Avraham became the Rav of the northeastern Romanian city of Skulen (Sculeni - now a part of modern-day Moldova). He was already older when his son Eliezer Zusia was born, yet he devoted himself to his son and instilled him with his Torah and Yiras Shamayim. R' Eliezer was about 18 years old when his father passed away, but despite his tender age, the inhabitants of Skulen chose him to succeed his father, and everyone could see that the young man was destined for greatness. With his appointment as the Rav of Skulen, R' Eliezer Zusia devoted himself entirely to the concerns of the community, earning a sterling reputation throughout the region. He was not simply the Rav of the community; he was its beloved shepherd. Yidden cherished and respected their Rebbe for his greatness in Torah, his goodness of heart, and his love for the Jewish people. He loved every Yid, be they rich or poor, righteous scholars or the simplest of tradesmen. At the very least, there should be no outward expression of the opposite of Ahavas Yisrael, neither in deed nor in writing (nor by writing letters without signatures and the like chas v'shalom). Since today isn't Shabbos, we should speak only about the positive: we must increase in all matters of Ahavas Yisroel, in giving tzedakah happily etc., which will prepare for the imminent arrival of Moshiach literally right now, which will be heralded by “Pinchas, who is Eliyahu,” who, as a Kohen, will certainly hasten to announce it. Pinchas in particular embodies alacrity, because he merited to become a Kohen (not by birth but) by his own effort etc., and surely he will demonstrate his alacrity by hastening to announce that Moshiach has come, literally right now.2 excerpts from sichah of Sunday, Parashas Pinchas, 15 Tammuz 5747 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-07-2024 לע”נ הרב אורי עזרא ב"ר יוסף יהודה ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלו ט"ו תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.נדבת בנו ר' ישעי' ‏מנחם מענדל שי' ליפש

KORACH You Are The Story Jealousy at its core stems from one's misalignment with their own value and worth. It is the fundamental misunderstanding of one's role in the world The Rebbe, a Jewish leader who dedicated his life to reaching every single Jew. There have been righteous individuals who opened their doors to those who knocked on them, The Rebbe devoted all his resources to caring for a small community on the other side of the world – one that had not heard of him and did not belong to his sect, followers, or students. This was not just Ahavas Yisroel, but it stemmed from a profound appreciation of Jews. Every Jew is an entire world. Each one possesses an intrinsic value that makes them an only child to Hashem. Everyone also has their own beauty, quality, and unique purpose that is part of a mission upon which the world depends. If you're jealous of someone else, you simply haven't quite understood who you are and why you matter. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mendy-goldberg/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mendy-goldberg/support

But this soul-unity must also be expressed openly in the soul's specific faculties, as well as in the physical body. This is the meaning of the commandment to “love your fellow like yourself”: a Jew's conduct in thought, speech, and action must embody Ahavas Yisroel, and to the degree that one loves his fellow Jew “like yourself,” because they are really all one being. As explained in Yerushalmi, all Jews are like limbs of a single body; the distinctions between one limb and another have no bearing on the fact that they are all part of the same body. This is emphasized by the fact that the blood, which “is the soul,” circulates throughout all the limbs. The mitzvah of Ahavas Yisroel is an instruction of the Torah of truth and the Torah of life – a guide for life, to the extent that Ahavas Yisroel is “the entire Torah,” and “the rest is its interpretation.” [And then a Jew is told:] “Go study.”Top of FormTwo excerpts from sichah of 6 Tishrei 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-05-2024

Our concern that the villagers in remote places have the ability to hear the Megillah reading further emphasizes how central Ahavas Yisroel is to Purim, as also emphasized in the mitzvos of Mishloach Manos and Matanos L'evyonim. (2) On a year like this, when there are three days from Taanis Esther to Purim, there is more time to prepare b'hidur for the days of Purim. “Action is the main thing,” and “One urges only those who are vigilant” – with regards to Mivtza Purim in every country, and bringing joy to those in particular need of it, such as those in hospitals, nursing homes, orphanages, etc.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Tetzaveh, Taanis Esther (Mukdam) 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-03-2024

Therefore, it is my request that every Jew, even those who haven't done so until now, should add to their davening – before and after – passages that are especially relevant to the current situation: 1) Before davening: “I hereby accept upon myself the positive commandment to ‘Love your fellow like yourself” (the AriZal mentions this practice, and the Alter Rebbe includes it in his siddur), which emphasizes Ahavas Yisroel – peace and unity among the Jewish people, which brings peace to the entire world. 2) After davening: the pasuk “Ach tzadikim yodu lishmecha, yeshvu yesharim es Panecha” (“Indeed, the righteous will give thanks to Your name; the upright will dwell in Your presence”) (this practice is cited in the Rambam and elsewhere, and is brought in a number of siddurim), which emphasizes tranquility in general – the opposite of “kingdoms clashing with one another” etc.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday night, Yud Tes Kislev, 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=09-01-2024 לזכות יוסף הכהן בן רוזה חנה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו כ"ח טבת - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אביו ר' ‏אברהם הכהן שי' ‏

This unity between all four categories of the Jewish people is true Ahavas Yisroel, and thus, Chevron is the location of Me'aras Hamachpelah, which encompasses the four extremes of Avraham (Chesed), Yitzchak (Gevurah), Yaakov (Rachamim), and Adam Harishon (who was formed by Hashem's hands). The maamar Lehavin Inyan Hahishtatchus states that “all tefilos must ascend on high through the entrance of Gan Eden on earth, and therefore, a tefilah recited at Me'aras Hamachpelah is very much desirable and accepted, because we have a tradition that this was the location of the entrance to the actual Gan Eden.” And this is despite the fact that it says in Gemara and Shulchan Aruch to face Yerushalayim during tefilah. Additionally, Chassidus explains that it was only after David served as king in Chevron for seven years that he was able to be king in Yerushalayim. This is why shluchim were sent to arrange special hakafos in Yerushalayim and at Me'aras Hamachpelah.3 excerpts from farbrengen of Thursday night, Parashas Noach, 4 MarCheshvan 5737 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-11-2023

To make it easier to make these resolutions and actually keep them – they should be made in public, as explained in Kuntres Heichaltzu; above all, resolutions should be made regarding ahavas yisroel; as explained there, it is specifically in this way that we “take revenge for Hashem against Midian” etc. (and therefore, it should be strongly resolved at every farbrengen to “take revenge for Hashem against Midian” – by eliminating every form of strife Rachmana litzlan between one persona and another, and to have Ahavas Yisroel etc.). Therefore, it is appropriate to arrange gatherings and farbrengens wherever possible in connection with the month of Cheshvan, to make such resolutions – and in public, in the presence of the congregation – regarding Torah and mitzvos in general, and ahavas yisroel etc. for the entire year. The answer is that through emunah in Hashem and in His Torah and His shluchim – Moshe Rabbeinu and the “Moshe” in every generation – she becomes connected to every Jew in every generation, who are “believers, sons of believers,” and therefore she is able to accomplish the greatest things! Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics: Chassidus Applied to Shavuos  What exactly is the Torah and what happened at Mattan Torah?   When was the Torah written? Did it always exist just as G-d always existed, or did G-d write the Torah when He decided to create the world?  Does the Torah contain all of G-d's knowledge, or just the parts that relate to creation and to us?  If we were able to travel to a distant planet, would we be responsible to observe Torah and mitzvos there, or was the Torah only given on Planet Earth?  Was the Torah written all at one time or did it evolve and grow as a document and get edited into what it is today?  What exactly was given at Sinai – the written or the oral Torah?   Why is there a written and an oral Torah?   Why was it okay for the rabbis to write down the oral torah when it was prohibited to do so?  Why then can't we change other prohibitions?  Can there be mistakes in the oral Torah?  Since rabbinic Judaism in the oral Torah is filled with disputes, can we say that those that did not hold by it were on a higher state of Ahavas Yisroel, devoid of arguments?  Why don't the disputes indicate that there are mistakes in the oral Torah?  Since we ignore certain opinions in the Talmud could it be that we are mistaken in our practice?   How did the Avos do the mitzvos before they were given at Sinai?   How did they know Torah before it was given?  If Abraham performed all the mitzvos, why did he wait until age 99 to do a bris?  How could the Jews sleep and need to be awoken for the giving of the Torah?  Why is it considered special that the Jews said naaseh v'nishmah?  Did they say naaseh v'nishmah out of their own free will, or were they compelled to do so?  Why don't we count the 50th day of the Omer?  Why do we sing and dance on Simchas Torah and not on Shavuos when the Torah was given?   Why do we need two separate commandments, one to believe in Hashem, and another not to believe in false gods?  Why does G-d get so angry about idolatry, if other gods don't even exist?  Was the Rebbe loving?        Torah         Mattan Torah

Gut voch everybody, I'll tell you a mayseh. One of the great tzadikim, was Reb Yitzchak Vorker. He was known for his Ahavas Yisroel, he was known for his overflowing kind heart. It was once an erev shabbos, he was getting ready with his rebbetzin. There was a knock on the door, and it's a beggar. It's not a jewish poor person, it's a non jew who's begging. Usually when a poor person comes they ask for money, or don't ask for anything specific. But this beggar asked for something specific, he said that he wants some challah. He said he was hungry and he knew it was before shabbos and every jewish home has challah so he asks specifically for challah. The Rebbetzin is thinking to herself, if it was a jewish beggar it wouldn't be a question but for a non-jew it's different. She goes to check what she has and she sees that all she has is the 2 challahs for lechem mishna for them. They were going to have the tish so they only needed 2 challahs at home for 1 meal Friday night. The halacha is even if the Rebbetzin decided to cut a piece the halacha is you need 2 whole loaves in order to fulfill the mitzvah of Lechem Mishna. She says listen, I apologize we don't have any challahs here and she'll give some money instead. Reb Yitzchak of Vorke is in the other room and he hears what's happening he comes over to the rebbetzin and says it's okay we'll cut a piece and give him half the challah it's not going to bleed, no blood will come from it. Okay that's what the Rebbe said that's what the Rebbetzin did and that's it, that was this part of the story. Months go by, years go by and one day Reb Yitzchak Vorke was traveling with a small group of chassidim. In those days, especially in that part of the world, traveling was extremely dangerous and you'd have gangsters going after people and ransoming them to their communities for money. So this is what happened, Reb Yitzchak Vorke is traveling and they're attacked by a group of bandits. They're all tied up and brought to the leader of the gand to then be sold for ransom from the Jewish community. They knew the yidden would pay so much money for any yid, especially someone who looks like a rabbinic figure.Once the head gangster is standing there and sees the Rebbe he immediately says let them go. What happened? Reb Yitzchak of Vorke notices this head gangster and after looking at him for a second he realizes he was that poor beggar that years ago came and asked for challah. Eventually he became the head of this gang, when he saw the rebbe, he said this jew saved my life when I needed saving so we're going to let him go as well. Reb Yitzchak Vorker and the chassidim go on their way and by the time they get home the Rebbe tells his rebbetzin what happened. He says to his rebbetzin, remember years ago there was a situation where a non-jew came on erev shabbos with a funny request and I said cut the challah no blood will come from it. Even when I said that I meant it as a joke, I didn't even know what it meant. It turns out that what I said was true, because we cut the challah and gave it to that poor person, no blood, no damage, no danger is going to come because of that particular mayseh. There's so many things we can take from that, just the kindness not just to a poor yid, but to a poor goy. To the extent that he sacrificed his lechem mishna for that. We see that the Ribbono shel olam always plants seeds. You never know what yeshua you need years later. The ribono shel olam gives us a mitzvah right now, and we don't see the immediate schar or how it might change our lives. We have emunah, we plant seeds, we plant chesed then yeshuos come. It might be years later, we might realize it or not but every single act of chesed is planting a seed that produces peros of a...

MyLife: Chassidus Applied

Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics: What should we be doing during the month of Elul? What is special about this month? Why is G-d compared to the “king in the field”? What are good middle ground resolutions for the new year that neither overreach nor underestimate our abilities? If G-d is more approachable in Elul, when He is like “the king in the field,” does that mean that He is less approachable the rest of the year?
