Welcome to Daily Bitachon . We continue with Bitachon lessons from the Haggadah shel Pesach . The next phrase is וַֽיְהִי־שָׁ֕ם לְג֥וֹי גָּד֖וֹל Vayehi sham l'goy /they were there for a nation ( or some texts have) l'goy gadol / to a great nation. Melamed / This teaches us she'hayu Yisrael Metzuyanim sham/The Jewish people were outstanding there. Metzuyan means different. On a test sometimes you get the mark of Metzuyan . Metzuyan doesn't mean excellent , it means outstanding . Different . It could be outstandingly good or outstandingly bad. So the Jewish people were outstanding . We see this either from the word Goy , that they were a nation , which means that they had their own culture and their own ways, or the words Goy Gadol . On the words, Shnei meorot hagdolim / The two great luminaries . Maor hagadol , Maor hakaton/the large and the small. The sun is called large and the moon is called small because the sun is Gadol . Gadol means a source of light. And the moon, the Katan , is a receiver . So an Adam Gadol , as Rav Wolbe quotes from Rav Yerucham Levovitz, is someone that's able to give to Ketanim , to people that are smaller. The Jewish people are going to be a Goy Gadol . They're not influenced by the outside, they're their own source of their way of life, an independent source, not influenced by the outside world. The opposite is va'yitarvu bagoyim v'yilmdu ma'aseihem / They mixed with the other nations and learned from their ways. But Goy or a Goy Gadol means, No, we're not mixing, we're not being influenced. This is a phenomena. In Bereishit 46:3, Hashem tells Yaakov , I am Hashem the God of your fathers. Don't be afraid to go down to Mitzr ayim . Ki l'goy gadol asimcha sham/For I will make you a Goy Gadol there. When you say someone's not supposed to be afraid, that means he was afraid. He was afraid. How in the world are my children going to down there to Mitzrayim? How in the world? And Hashem said, 'Don't worry. There is where they're going to become the Goy Gadol". Somehow, in the most contaminated nations, they're going to develop their status of a Goy and a Goy Gadol at that. This history repeats itself. One of the main themes of these pesukim is that it's not just about them. We're still in Galut Mitzrayim , we're still waiting for the ultimate Geulah . A famous story is told that Rav Chaim Volozhin was once praying Shacharit , and he burst out crying bitterly, but he did explain why. One of his closest students, Rav David Tevel , the author of Nachlat David , pressed him and said, " What happened? Why were you crying so bitterly during these prayers?" Rav Chaim said, " We're currently in Europe, but the time will come (this was about 150 years before the Holocaust) when European Jewry will be uprooted and will go into another exile. We have 10 exiles. From Bavel to North Africa, to Egypt, to Italy, to Spain, to France, to Germany, to Poland, to Lithuania." "And the final exile, " he said, "is the exile of America. It's going to be a very difficult exile. Who knows how we will survive that exile? "And that's what he was crying for- the last stop. Just like Yaakov Avinu was nervous, Rav Chaim Volozhin , who saw the future, was nervous as well. What's going to be? And just like Yaakov Avinu would have been surprised when he saw the Jewish people coming out, Yotzim b'yad rama / A nation on such a high level, that such a tremendous revelation, that came out specifically from that land of contamination, Rav Chaim Volozhin, when Mashiach comes, will look and say, Wow, look what America looks like. Look at the amount of Yeshivot, look at the amount of Kollelim, look at the amount of Bais Yaakov, Look what's going on! How many Sefarim were written in America? What a overturn! After the Holocaust , Rav Mottel Katz went into a bookstore on Lower East Side looking for a Ketzot Hachoshen , a book that is learned in Yeshivot. The proprietor said, " Let me look, I think I have one left." The store owner found the book, blew off the dust, gave it to him and said, " Be careful with this book, because this is the last Ketzot Hachoshen in America. " Rav Mottel Katz told him, " More Ketzot Hachoshens will be printed or used in America than have been printed since the Ketzos Hachoshen came out." And he was right. That's the unbelievable concept of Vayehi sham l'goy / Vayehi sham l'goy gadol . There, in Mitzrayim , we will turn into a nation that's Metzuyanim / outstanding . That's what we see today. B'ezrat Hashem , there is nothing better to strengthen our Bitachon than to watch these prophecies come true.

A man recently reached out to me for chizuk after receiving the devastating news that he had been diagnosed with a serious illness. That very same day, I had heard two incredible stories about people who had faced life-threatening illnesses and experienced miraculous recoveries. I immediately recalled yet another story that a rabbi had shared years ago. This rabbi had a student who had come to him seeking chizuk for two separate challenges—one regarding his struggling business and the other concerning his child's health. That same day, the rabbi happened to hear two stories addressing those exact concerns. He shared them with his student, along with the kabbalot those individuals had taken upon themselves as a merit for their yeshuot . Inspired by these stories, the student took on the same kabbalot . Baruch Hashem , he later experienced miraculous salvation in both areas of his life. So I told the man who had reached out to me, "I would like to share with you two stories I just heard. While the circumstances may not be exactly the same, the message is the same." The first story was from a rabbi who shared that when his child was born 15 years ago, doctors told him the baby had mental retardation. They also said he would have very limited mobility and would never be able to hear properly. The condition, they explained, was a result of an illness the mother had contracted during pregnancy. For the first seven months of the baby's life, he did not move at all and was unable to hear. Desperate for yeshua , the rabbi flew to Israel to seek a beracha from Rav Chaim Kanievsky zt"l . Rav Chaim told him, "If his mother prays three times a day, Shacharit, Mincha and Arbit, the baby will be fine." With complete emunat chachamim , the rabbi immediately called his wife and relayed the message. She happily accepted the commitment upon herself. Fifteen years later, as I was speaking to this rabbi, he called over that very child and introduced him to me. Baruch Hashem , he is completely healthy, with no sign of the condition he was once diagnosed with. In fact, he had become a gifted learner, having completed Masechet Tamid over 250 times. It was nothing short of an open miracle. The second story came from another rabbi whose baby would vomit everything it ate and cry throughout the night. This went on for months, and the parents were completely beside themselves. Doctors had no solution. This rabbi also went to Rav Chaim for a beracha . Rav Chaim advised him, "Dress the child modestly, and the problem will go away." The rabbi, surprised, responded , "But she's an infant." Rav Chaim acknowledged that, according to halacha , there was no requirement for an infant to dress modestly. "However," he explained , "doing something to enhance kedushah always brings yeshuot." The rabbi listened and followed the advice. Within a week, both issues disappeared. The baby was eating properly and sleeping peacefully through the night. I then told the man I was speaking to that we may not have someone today who can tell us exactly what Hashem wants from us. But when we face challenges like these, we know that improving in an area that needs strengthening is always a powerful zechut." Hashem loves us and wants us to reach our fullest potential. Sometimes, a person needs a gentle tap on the shoulder to remind them of what truly matters in life. Be'ezrat Hashem , when we answer that call, the challenges we face often disappear. We have seen countless stories proving beyond a doubt that Hashem is in full control of our health—and that He can take away an illness in the blink of an eye. This should inspire us to pray harder, strengthen our actions, and believe that our salvation comes solely from Hashem.
Welcome to our humility series. We're talking about thoughts that cause one to become humble. The Hovot Halevavot in the second gate, Shaar HaBechina, which looks into creation (chapter 5), says, " There's something that you should look into in creation. It applies to the greatest and smallest of creatures. It's something that's hidden, that you don't see with your regular senses. It's the constant of movement . Everything that's happening is happening because of movement. He says, without movement, nothing would come to be. And he quotes a statement. רב הטבעים עם התנועה /Most of natural events come about due to movement It's what makes the cells move . What makes your blood flow? What makes you able to walk and move your limbs? And he says, When you understand the secret of movement, you'll understand how spiritual it is . It's from the wonders of God. And you'll realize, Hashem's tremendous mercy on you . And you'll realize that all of your movements are connected to the will of your Creator. He's making everything move. The only thing that He left is certain things you have freedom of choice in. But otherwise, as we say in the morning, Hamechin Mitzader Gaver,/God sets up the steps of man . So pay attention to every movement you make and realize how He is connected to that movement. Be a little bit shameful of Him and give yourself over to His will because He's watching and looking and directing you. This is a very, very important point- we don't have our own independent energy. Hashem makes us move at all times. This is something to think about. On Rosh Hashanah there is a Piyut that Sephardim say, written by Rav Yehuda Halevi, the author of the Kuzari. It's called Ya Shimcha/Your name is Hashem. It says in the last stanza of that Piyut הִשְׁתּוֹנֵן, וְהִכּוֹנֵן, וְהִתְבּוֹנֵן בְּסוֹדֶךָ. וְהִבַּטְתָּ, מָה אַתָּה, וּמֵאַיִן יְסוֹדֶךָ. וּמִי הֱכִינְךָ, וּמִי הֱבִינְךָ, / Sharpen your mind and prepare yourself and delve into your secret (which refers to your soul) And realize what are you and what is your source of being? Who formed you? Who gave you wisdom? And now for the last three words, וְכֹחַ מִי יְנִידֶךָ. / Whose power animates you? Whose power makes you move? That's something that the Paytan is asking us to think about, specifically on Rosh Hashanah, the day of creation, the day that God breathed life into man. We should think about this every day, but especially on Rosh Hashanah- Who is energizing us? Who's giving us the strength to move? We will quote three different sources for this concept, each from a different shade of our religion. Working chronologically, we start with the Tomar Devorah, the famous sefer written by Rav Moshe, Cordovero, one of the great Kabbalists of Sfat. He lived from 1522 to 1570 and was actually one of the leaders of Kabbalah, even before the Arizal. In the first chapter of Tomar Devorah when talking about he first Middah of Hashem, he says, אֵין רֶגַע שֶׁלֹּא יִהְיֶה הָאָדָם נִזּוֹן וּמִתְקַיֵּים מִכֹּחַ עֶלְיוֹן הַשּׁוֹפֵעַ עָלָיו. /There's not a moment that a person is not sustained and exists from the heavenly force that is constantly granted upon him. That means we do not live because we're here as independent beings. We will explain further citing a quote from the Baal Shem Tov, Rav Yisrael ben Eliezer (c. 1700 to 1760), the founder of Hasidut , in his sefer Beer Mayim Chaim on Bereshit explaining the pasuk (Tehilim 119 89) לעולם ה' דברך נצב בשמים, /Forever Hashem, Your words are standing in the Shamayim The Baal Shem Tov explains that when a flesh and blood craftsman makes a vessel, he can walk away from the vessel and no matter what energy or wisdom he put into it, his ability no longer impacts it. It's going to stay forever. Why? Because he's made it yesh m'yesh/something from something. He took existing silver and crafted it into the vessel. But Hashem created the world yesh m'eyin/something from nothing. There was nothing there before Him. And therefore, if Hashem, even for a second, decides to cease to pump the energy into it, it will cease to exist. God has to constantly put that energy in to make it be. Thr Baal Shem Tov gives the example of the sun. Why is the sun there? Not just because it's there. No. If you were able to put on spiritual glasses, you'd see the words Yehi Or pumping into the sun. And if those letters Yehi Or went away, the sun would cease to exist. Hashem, every second, is pumping energy Yehi Rakia/let there be a firmament. That's why there's a sky. He says that's what it means L'Olam/Forever Your words are still in the heavens. That means the original ten statements that God said when He created the world are still standing there. And if your eyes were capable of seeing it, you'd see them still there. Lastly, we will quote the Nefesh HaChaim, Rav Chaim of Volozhin (1749 to 1821), the father of the Yeshiva movement. He was a student of the Gaon of Vilna and got everything from him. And he says almost the same thing. Why is Hashem called Elohim, which means the Source of all energy? Because God is different than a regular craftsman that builds a building out of wood, who didn't make the wood, he just formed it. When the craftsman goes away, he goes away. He makes the same point as the Baal Shem Tov: Hashem made something from nothing. And he says, from the time of creation, כל יום וכל רגע ממש. , Every day and every moment, God is keeping it going. And he says that's why Anshei Knessset HaGedolah said המחדש בטובו בכל יום תמיד מעשה בראשית / God renews in His goodness every day constantly, the creation. תמיד ממש כל עת ורגע. /literally every second . And as it says, לעושה אורים גדולים /God is making the great luminaries - in the present tense. Not He made . What does that have to do with us? Humility . In the words of the Hovot Halevavot and of Rav Yehuda Halevi- There's nothing that we do on our own. Our heart is pumping because God is making it pump. In Shir HaShirim 5,2 it says ק֣וֹל ׀ דּוֹדִ֣י דוֹפֵ֗ק / The voice of my beloved is banging , פִּתְחִ / Open up Our pulse is called defek cause the pulse bangs . It pulsates . I once saw a pshat that the pulse is called defek/ banging because Who's the One that's banging and pulsating through our body? It's ק֣וֹל ׀ דּוֹדִ֣י דוֹפֵ֗ק Hashem is making that happen. When we think these thoughts, we realize, What are we doing? Whatever we're doing, whether hitting a ball, making a cake, or making money, Who is energizing me? Who's pumping it into me? Imagine those huge blow up items that flail around in front of stores to get your attention, flapping back and forth. Imagine if it thought to itself, " Wow! look how powerful I am. I'm going back and forth. " Excuse me, sir. There's someone pumping the air into you. You'd be flat on the floor without that thing pumping air into you. And with us, it's even worse because we wouldn't even be that flat plastic on the floor if Hashem wasn't pumping energy into us. These kind of thoughts are humbling, and it's our responsibility to think about them.

The Sefer Oznayim LaTorah relates a story passed down through a chain of tradition: From the Brisker Rav, who heard it from his father, Rav Chaim, who heard it from another rabbi, person to person, back to the one who experienced it. On one occasion, Napoleon visited a small city in Poland. The local leaders and dignitaries prepared a grand reception for him, each taking turns to extol his praises. In the middle of the event, Napoleon asked why no one was there to represent the Jewish community. Immediately, some people went to search for a Jew. They returned ten minutes later with an elderly rabbi, one of the only Jews in the area. Napoleon then asked the rabbi to say a few words. The rabbi replied that he was not accustomed to speaking about monarchy, as he only knew how to speak words of Torah. Napoleon encouraged him to share some Torah, as he had already received enough praise. The rabbi then quoted a pasuk from Parashat Vayeshev regarding Yosef speaking to the sar hamashkim in prison. Yosef told him he would be reinstated as the chief wine steward for the king and then said, " כי אם זכרתני "—mention me to Pharaoh when you are freed. The rabbi posed a question: The words כי אם suggest they are providing a reason for what was previously stated. Seemingly, it should have said instead, וזכרתני . He explained that Yosef was telling the sar hamashkim , "It doesn't make sense that you were imprisoned in the first place. When a man of stature like yourself is accused of a crime, an investigation is conducted, and only after guilt is established is he jailed. Yet you did nothing wrong and were still imprisoned. The only reason you are here now, and leaving soon, is " כי אם זכרתני " —so you can mention my name to the king and secure my release. I too was imprisoned unjustly." The rabbi then turned to Napoleon and said, "My great emperor, how is it that you are here now in this small town in Poland, so far from your palace? Perhaps this is G-d sending you to witness the plight of the Jews here. We are treated unfairly. We are beaten and killed for no reason. Please save us from the torture we endure." The lesson here is clear. Hashem sends His messengers to different places at different times to accomplish what He wills. No matter where we are, we can trust that help is always possible, for Hashem can easily place one of His messengers to assist us. Rabbi Binyamin Pruzansky tells a story that illustrates this idea. A young man named Eli traveled with friends by car from Brooklyn to Toronto for a wedding. He planned to return with them on Thursday night, but changed his mind and decided to fly back alone the next morning. After his friends departed, he stayed at a hotel near the airport. When he was checking in for his flight the next day, Eli realized he had left his passport in his luggage, which was in the car that had already returned to Brooklyn. Now stranded at the airport on Erev Shabbat with no way to get home, he pleaded with the airline agent to let him board without his passport, but the request was denied. Desperate, Eli moved to the side and prayed to Hashem for help. Just then, a man in sandals and a straw hat approached him and asked, "What's the matter? You look miserable." Eli turned around and saw someone who didn't look like what he imagined a heavenly messenger would. But he had no choice but to explain his situation. The man responded, "A citizen is always allowed to return to their country of origin. That's the law. Even if you don't have a passport, they must let you board the plane." He instructed Eli to return to the desk and assert this point. Eli followed the advice, and at first, the agent refused to comply. Eli persisted, saying, "It's the law." The agent went to investigate and, after confirming the information, allowed Eli to board. Hashem puts His messengers everywhere. No matter where we are, we can always be helped.

With the holiday of Sukkot, Hashem has given us numerous mitzvot to perform: Sitting in the sukkah, shaking the lulav and etrog, being happy on the chag, and all of the mitzvot involved in shul and at the meals. It's important from time to time to focus on how valuable and special every mitzva is. The Gemara says at the end of days, the goyim are going to beg Hashem to give them mitzvot once they see the value of what every mitzva was really worth. In this world, it appears that money and materialism are what have value. But when Mashiach comes, we will see how false that was. Then we will fully understand how valuable every mitzva really was. There were righteous gentiles who saved hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust by bribing various Nazi officials. When the war was over and they saw how many lives they saved, they regretted not saving more. They looked at their possessions and wished they would have exchanged them for more lives. That is how everyone is going to feel when they see the true value of mitzvot. They are going to wish that they had spent more time and energy with them rather than on materialism. The Gemara at the end of Masechet Sukkah tells of a woman named Miryam Bat Bilga, who hit the Mizbeach and called it names, saying that it was eating the money of the Jewish people as they were wasting their money bringing Korbanot upon it. The Gemara then adds, she developed that terrible attitude because she learned it from her parents. Rav Chaim from Brisk explained, her parents were tzaddikim, but every time they did a mitzva, they would only talk about what the mitzva was a segula for and what benefit they were going to get out of it. For example, they would say, "We're lighting the menora now, it's a segula to have children. We're bringing a korban now. It's a segula for wealth." The children only heard that mitzvot provide material benefits. And so when they did those mitzvot and didn't see immediate benefits from them, they developed a hatred for them. It is true that some mitzvot provide side benefits in this world, but that is not the reason we do them. Our main purpose in the performance of any mitzva is to do the will of Hashem. Yes, ultimately we benefit from the mitzvot and primarily in the next world, but that is not our motivation. And we must make that clear to our children. Our greatest benefit is having the zechut to fulfill the commands of Hashem. One year, there were no kosher hadassim in Vilna, where the Gra lived. People went searching to very distant locations until they found someone who had, and they asked him if he would be willing to give his hadassim to the Vilna Gaon to fulfill the mitzvah with. The person said on one condition; that the Gaon gives him the reward in Gan Eden for the mitzva. They took the hadassim and brought them back to the Gaon and told him the condition. The Gaon was so excited to be able to do a mitzvah purely for the sake of Hashem and receive nothing in return. He understood the greatest zechut we have is to be able to do what Hashem wants. We must never lose sight of the real purpose of mitzvot. We don't do them as a segula or because they give reward. We do them because it's what Hashem wants. May Hashem give us the zechut to fulfill every mitzvah on the holiday the best way possible.

https://www.artscroll.com/ Books/lemynh.html Living Emunah on Yamim Noraim Gaining faith from the Days of Awe The Rambam writes, the more a person learns about who Hashem is, the closer he gets to Him, and the more favor he finds in His eyes. There's a sefer called Tomer Devorah , which explains in detail the attributes of Hashem. Rav Chaim of Sanz said, to learn this sefer is a wondrous segula to be saved from all types of sicknesses and plagues. Simply the reason is because the way we act down here is the way that Hashem treats us from above. And when we learn about the ways of Hashem, and then emulate them, that opens the storehouses of blessing. One of the middot of Hashem is that He is חפץ חסד , He loves doing kindness. And that is something that we are supposed to emulate. The midrash in Bereshit Rabbah 33 tells of a very difficult famine which took place in the city of Rabbi Tanchuma. There had been a long drought, and the city residents requested the Rabbi to decree a fast day to stop the famine. The Rabbi agreed, and the entire city fasted, but it still didn't rain. Rabbi Tanchuma then decreed a second fast, but still no rain. After a third fast went by without results, Rabbi Tanchuma told the city residents to increase their acts of kindness. One day, someone saw a man giving money to his ex-wife, and being that according to halacha , a person is not allowed to have a relationship with his ex-wife, this person told Rabbi Tanchuma, suggesting that perhaps there was an aveira prolonging the drought. The Rabbi summoned the man to ask him why he was giving her money. The man replied, "I saw her in such distress without any money and no one helping her, so I decided to help." At that moment, Rabbi Tanchuma lifted his face towards heaven and said, "Hashem, this man who has no obligation whatsoever to feed this poor woman, yet he had mercy on her and did it anyway. You, who are our loving Father, who is filled with compassion and mercy, please feed your loving children." Immediately, the skies opened up and it began to pour. We see from here that a simple man, with one pure act of chesed , could accomplish more than three fast days by an entire community. This is the value of having compassion on others and helping them. The Yerushalmi in Masechet Ta'anit tells the story of another occasion in which there was a severe drought in Israel. It was told to some Chachamim in a dream that if a certain donkey driver would pray for rain, then the blessing would pour down. The Chachamim called over this man and asked him what he did for a living. He replied that he transports merchandise on his donkey for people. Then they asked him if there was something special that he did recently. He said that a woman came crying to him, asking to rent his donkey. He asked her why she was crying. She said her husband was taken to prison by the Romans for not paying certain taxes they were requesting. They would not release him until they got the money. So she thought maybe she could rent a donkey and use it to make money with. The man had compassion on her. He sold the donkey and gave her the money to redeem her husband. The Rabbis asked this man to pray for the community to have rain and Hashem immediately answered his tefila . When we emulate Hashem and have compassion on His children, it opens up the gates of blessing and mercy.

In this series, Rabbi Daniel Rowe learns and explains the classic Jewish mystical work, "Nefesh HaChaim" by Rav Chaim of Volozhin, touching on many deep Kabbalistic and philosophical truths in Judaism. This episode analyses the 12th chapter that discusses how the world to come is composed entirely of our own actions; we literally live inside the acts and choices we make.
Overcoming very difficult tests are great ways of accessing extra beracha . When our natural inclinations are pushing us very hard to react in an animalistic way, we must pause for a moment and remember, it's Hashem testing us with a big test because He wants to bless us. The tests are hard, but that just makes the rewards even greater. The sefer Or David told a story that involved the Chacham Tzvi, Rav Tzvi Ashkenazi in his younger years. When he was learning in Yeshiva after high school, he stayed at the home of a very wealthy man. Because Rav Tzvi was such a diligent student, he would arrive back to the house at very late hours of the night. Besides the fact that the family was generally unhappy housing this boy, they especially got irritated when they heard him coming back late at night, sometimes waking them up. They would constantly ask their father to send the boy somewhere else. But the father just remained silent. This went on for months until one day the father himself couldn't take it anymore. It was that day that he had a big business issue and was already very irritable. That night he said some nasty words to the young Rav Tzvi and even though he didn't outright ask him to leave, it was apparent from his words that they weren't happy with him being there anymore. Right after he spoke nastily, he regretted it. He went over to the boy afterward and sincerely apologized. It was just moments later that evening that a couple of leaders from another community came knocking on the door to ask if the young Rav Tzvi would become the Av Bet Din of their city. The young Rabbi agreed and was going to move the next day to that city. When the Rabbi left, he told the homeowner, “It was deemed in Shamayim how long I was going to stay at your house. Yesterday was the last day and that was the day you were tested the most. If you would have held back for one more day and not complained about what my learning caused your family, you would have been zocheh to children and grandchildren who would become great in Torah. You will still have children and grandchildren with tremendous wealth, but none of them will become talmidei chachamim .” And that is exactly what happened as testified to by people from later generations. A few years ago, a Palestinian missile landed directly on the home of a large family in Ashdod. Baruch Hashem, no one from the family was there at the time, but their house was completely destroyed. They needed about nine weeks of renovations to make it livable again and the family was stranded without an apartment. Someone told a man in Tzfat about them. He had an apartment he had been trying to rent out for the past year. He said he would be happy to let them live in it until he found a tenant. He even gave it to them free of charge, but said if he would find a tenant, they would have to go. They moved their stuff to Tzfat and settled in this apartment. And after just two days, a renter appeared. It had been a whole year without finding someone and now, right after this family moved in, they did. The renter was asked if he could wait a couple of months. He said he needed the apartment immediately. He even offered to pay rent for two years, the entire amount in cash up front. It was too good to be true. The family from Ashdod was close with Rav Chaim, zatzal and they told him the details of what had transpired. Rav Chaim said, “Tell the owner, if he lets you stay in the apartment, he'll gain much more than he'll gain from this renter.” When the owner was told of this, he said he has emunat chachamim and turned down the rental agreement. A month later, the landlord received a check in the mail for 75,000 shekels. Years before, there was a windstorm in Tzfat and his property was damaged. His insurance company denied the claim twice and his lawyers told him to just drop it. They made it clear there was no chance of them ever changing their decision. And now, this check arrived with a letter explaining they decided to reopen the case and ruled he was entitled to the money. The tests in life are hard, but when we overcome them, we always win.

Although Hashem does not reveal Himself openly to people, He has infinite ways of communicating with them. We all know He listens to our tefilot , and we all know He helps us all the time. But when we see it so clearly, it gives us extra chizuk . A woman told me, when she was about four months pregnant, she went for a standard sonogram. The radiologist detected an abnormality at the base of the baby's spine. It was shown to the senior radiologist who concluded that it was a probable case of sacral agenesis, a rare condition which affects the part of the spine just around the tailbone. The doctors recommended an MRI to establish the facts fully, and so they went for a detailed scan, and it showed indeed that it was a case of sacral agenesis. The repercussions of this are very difficult to live with. They explained that the baby, who was a girl, would be very unlikely to have any movement or feeling in the lower parts of her body, in effect making her paralyzed from the waist down. That would also affect having any bladder or bowel control. The doctors suggested terminating the pregnancy, saying it was going to have negative effects on the rest of their family. Of course, this was not an option. The specialists were not encouraging either, and the family was devastated. They started the long, slow process of waiting for the birth. Under the guidance of their rabbi, they kept the whole situation quiet to keep the possibility open for a hidden miracle to take place. They utilized the time to pray, to say Tehillim , to get berachot from tzaddikim , and to visit kevarim of tzaddikim from past generations. They received a beracha from Rav Chaim, zatzal , and believed in their heart of hearts that Hashem could do anything. The day the woman went to the hospital to give birth, she had a lot of anxiety about the unknown. They kept giving each other chizuk , saying the doctors don't make the final determination, only Hashem does. During the labor, the doctors said they were most probably going to have to operate soon after birth to relieve any buildup of feces due to the baby not being able to clear her waste naturally. That date was May 4th, 2020. While she was in hospital, she got a call from her father. He had just read a daily message on an email which many people in their family receive. He told her he wanted her to read it immediately. She really didn't feel like reading an email at that point, but she did it because her father asked her to. What she read there completely blew her away. That email was discussing hidden miracles, and it quoted an Alsheich saying, “We must believe that Hashem can create something from nothing in an instant. If a person was told, lo aleinu , that he might be missing part of an internal organ, but it hasn't been confirmed, he should pray to Hashem that He create the missing part right now because it's still hidden. The same way that Hashem can create something new, He could also remove something that was there already.” The email continued with more similar statements. Here, her rabbi told her to keep this quiet so that Hashem can perform a hidden miracle for them, and then on the day of the birth, she gets a message talking about Hashem doing hidden miracles with the body. The rest of the story is even more amazing. The baby was born kicking and screaming with plenty of movement in her legs. She was also accompanied by a large sample that showed she was very capable of moving her bowels. They were shown immediately upon birth who runs the world. The doctors did not want to withdraw their diagnosis and warned of possible future problems. Baruch Hashem, today, she is almost four years old with no issues at all. They are so grateful to Hashem for the hidden miracle He performed and for showing them how clearly He was involved every step of the way.
