ג' חלקים משיחת יו"ד שבט ה'תשמ"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-02-2026 Synopsis Upon his arrival in the United States (on 9 Adar-Sheini 5700 - 1940), the Previous Rebbe famously declared that the purpose of his coming here was to show that “America is no different,” and that he would therefore continue his work of spreading Yiddishkeit etc. Some may ask: how could he declare that this was the purpose of his coming to the United States when in fact he came to escape Europe (i.e. precisely because “America is different”)? But the truth is that the his escape is only a superficial reason for his coming to America; if one looks at it more deeply he will see that it is part of the bigger picture of his primary focus and the purpose of his mission in this world, which is to unite the Jewish people by spreading Yiddishkeit. The lesson is as follows: even one's eating and drinking etc. should not be “different” from his davening and learning; they too must be part of his service of Hashem (by making a bracha before and after etc.), because every aspect of a person draws its vitality from his soul as part of the “Man,” who is called “Adam” because “edameh l'Elyon” (“I will emulate the Most High”).3 excerpts from sichah of 10 Shevat 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-02-2026

Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe Podcast Collection

In this special Ask Away “Junior Edition” of the Everyday Judaism podcast, recoded during the Super Bowl Halftime, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe opens the floor to a group of young yeshiva students (ages 12–14) who ask thoughtful, deep questions on halacha, Torah, and Jewish life. The rabbi answers with warmth, clarity, and practical wisdom, often tying responses to broader lessons in emunah, mitzvot, and character.Key questions & answers:Aryeh Buchwald: Why does Hashem put us in Olam HaZeh instead of straight to Olam HaBa? — To remove “bread of shame” (nahama d'kisufa). If Hashem gave reward without earning it, we'd feel shame. This world lets us earn Olam HaBa through free will (bechira), overcoming challenges, and building a real relationship with Hashem.Shlomo Chaim Lieberman: Why is Yisro called “Chosen Moshe” and “Kohein Midyon” after his introduction, not just “Yisro”? — Yisro had seven names/titles. He explored every religion before discovering truth in Judaism and converting. The titles highlight his journey and stature—he overcame big challenges to join Klal Yisroel.Ephraim Yaghobian: Can a Jew work cleaning a church room that doesn't contain Avodah Zarah/Idolatry (e.g., priest's office)? — Generally permissible if no actual avodah zarah is present and no direct involvement in idolatry. Still, a God-fearing person may prefer to avoid any connection or send a non-Jewish worker instead. Each case should be asked to a local Orthodox rabbi.Yitzi Wolbe: Why does Gemara argue back and forth instead of just giving the halacha? — Judaism is about seeking truth (emes), not blind faith. Questions are essential—every page of Gemara has questions & answers to verify and deepen understanding. Other religions often forbid questions; Yiddishkeit welcomes them because truth withstands scrutiny.David Balsam: Why wait 6 hours after meat but only 30 minutes after milk? — Meat flavor lingers longer (stays between teeth); milk clears quickly. Hard cheese (e.g., Swiss) follows meat's waiting time because its flavor also persists.Shlomo Wolbe: Why so many different Minhagim (customs) if all Jews follow Torah? — Halacha gives a framework; minhagim are individual/community expressions of fulfilling mitzvot. Everyone must follow core halacha, but variations (e.g., hat styles, prayer customs) are allowed as long as they're rooted in Torah. Hashem loves diversity within unity—12 tribes each had their lane.Aryeh Buchwald: Is it allowed to pretend not to be home when a meshulach (charity collector) knocks? — Avoid outright lying (“I'm not home”). Better to say “I'm busy now” or “not able right now.” Don't say “I have nothing” (opens ayin hara). Giving with a smile is a huge privilege—Hashem sometimes appears as the poor person to see how we treat Him.Shlomo Chaim Lieberman: Eruv on Shabbos—why do we need it? — Biblical prohibition against carrying from private to public domain. Chazal created eruv as a rabbinic solution: string around neighborhood makes it one domain. One of seven major rabbinic enactments (others include netilat yadayim, Shabbos candles). Observe meticulously—many communities have multiple eruvim. The rabbi praises the boys' depth and encourages asking questions—Judaism thrives on seeking truth. Please submit your questions at askaway@torchweb.org_____________The Everyday Judaism Podcast is dedicated to learning, understanding and appreciating the greatness of Jewish heritage and the Torah through the simplified, concise study of Halacha, Jewish Law, thereby enhancing our understanding of how Hashem wants us to live our daily lives in a Jewish way._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Marshall & Doreen LernerDownload & Print the Everyday Judaism Halacha Notes:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RL-PideM42B_LFn6pbrk8MMU5-zqlLG5This episode of the Everyday Judaism Podcast by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe of TORCH is dedicated to my dearest friends, Marshall & Doreen Lerner! Because this was the practice of idolaters…” The lesson is as follows: When the yetzer comes and claims that there is a certain idea that could bring decoration and beauty to Yiddishkeit, and attract those who have strayed etc. (and although it is done by non-Jews, it argues that “The Merciful One desires the heart” etc.), the response is: First and foremost, you must see whether this practice accords with Hashem's will, and if it does not, it is forbidden to do it. Regarding the benefit of beginning to make a tumult about Purim thirty days before Purim, there is a source for it a Mishnah: “On the first of Adar, an announcement is made regarding the shekalim” so that the people will bring their shekalim by the first of Nissan. The reason the Alter Rebbe doesn't mention anything about thirty days before Purim in his Shulchan Aruch is because the obligation of preparing thirty days before applies only to certain things (such as the obligation upon every individual to bring three korbanos on the Festivals); it would be is impossible to make it an obligation to prepare for every aspect of Yiddishkeit thirty days beforehand! However, when we see that last year we were lacking in terms of the activities related to Purim, there is certainly nothing wrong with applying this advice from the Mishna and beginning to campaign about Purim thirty days in advance. Neither the Alter Rebbe, nor the Nasi of our generation, nor one's yetzer tov, will come with any complaints; the complaints will come only from the “foreign god who is within you”… Additionally: we are talking about inspiring another Jew to increase in something joyous. So even if it turns out that it is not exactly a mitzvah or custom etc., what is the wrongdoing in that?!Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, parashas Sisa, Purim Katan 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-02-2026

ועיקרה של הפחדה זו אינה אלא כדי להוציא מהגוף את ה"תשלום" שצריכים לשלם להקב"ה מידי יום ע"י לימוד התורה וקיום המצוות מתוך שמירת בריאות הגוף לאויוש"ט. 1) משיחת פורים ה'תשי"א 2) א' השיחות דהתוועדות חג הגאולה י"ב תמוז, ה'תשי"א ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-01-2026 Synopsis (1) The need for secular wisdom is only to be used for Divine service. Therefore, a question rising from secular wisdom can exist only when there is an answer to it in holy wisdom. But the ultimate purpose of secular wisdom is to utilize the wisdom itself for holiness. (Obviously, this isn't chas v'shalom a stamp of approval for the study of secular wisdom; the intent is only that those who, for whatever reason, have already studied secular wisdom should use it to strengthen Yiddishkeit.) (2) These days there is a business of selling “life insurance.” Instead of going around and proclaiming, “Who is the man who desires life” and offering advice for long life (like the story in the Gemara), a person goes around (because he needs a livelihood) and proclaims the opposite: that one must make arrangements in case chas v'shalom he doesn't live a long life, by paying a certain amount every year so that if chas v'shalom something happens, the insurance company will make a payout etc. But the truth is that even the insurance company itself wants its clients to live long lives….The lesson for Divine service: The true desire of the soul is not to cause the death of the body and the animal soul. The practice of “reminding oneself of the day of death” is only to be used as a last resort, when there is a need to frighten the body and the animal soul. And the primary purpose of frightening the body this way is only to extract the “payment” it must pay to Hashem every day by studying Torah and keeping mitzvos, while preserving the health of the body for many long and good years.(1) Excerpt from sichah of Purim 5711; (2) sichah of 12 Tammuz 5711 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-01-2026 לזכות יוסף הכהן בן רוזה חנה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו כ"ח טבת - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אביו ר' ‏אברהם הכהן שי' ‏

Inspirational Thoughts on the Parsha

Matzah and wine represent two stages of Geulah and two stages in a Jew's spiritual growth. Matzah, called lechem oni, symbolizes the rushed redemption of Yetzias Mitzrayim when the Jewish people were spiritually low, deeply influenced by Egyptian culture, and needed to be taken out immediately before falling completely—there was no “taste,” refinement, or enjoyment, only survival and escape. Wine represents the next stage, when a Jew works on himself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, becoming more sensitive to Kedusha and beginning to experience true flavor and enjoyment in Yiddishkeit. The goal of Geulah was not only leaving Mitzrayim but reaching Har Sinai—“You will serve Me on this mountain”—and in the weeks leading to Matan Torah the Jewish people purified themselves and became worthy of receiving the Torah. Even if one fulfills matzah without tasting it, because that moment lacked sweetness, Hashem planted the potential for spiritual flavor, and through pushing forward even during struggle, the “matzah Jew” can ultimately become a “wine Jew,” tasting Torah and experiencing real joy in a relationship with Hashem.

משיחת אור ליום ד' פ' וארא, כ"ד טבת ה'תשמ"א ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-01-2026 Synopsis [Continued] Although there is nothing more precious than time, we take time on the Alter Rebbe's yom hilulah to farbreng and to reflect upon “all the work that he toiled throughout all the days of his life,” in a way that results in action. And the action must be done in a way that has an effect even “in the midst of the land,” meaning: even when one finds himself in the doubled and redoubled darkness of the time of the footsteps of Moshiach, one is not deterred, but rather engages in spreading Yiddishkeit in general, and the wellsprings of Chassidus in particular, in such a way that “My decree is kept in the lower realm,” and with joy and gladness of heart. This is the first takeaway that justifies the time spent on this farbrengen: the fact that it will lead to an immeasurable increase in “the work in which he toiled,” which primarily is “the souls he amassed,” and in a way that “works salvations in the midst of the land.” And from these individual “salvations” in spreading Yiddishkeit and the wellsprings of Chassidus, we will come to the true and complete Redemption.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday night, parashas Va'eira, 24 Teves 5741 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-01-2026

And when he sees that it is possible for a goy to strike a Jew (or for goyishkeit to “strike” Yiddishkeit), he puts himself in danger to help him. Moreover: Moshe puts himself in danger specifically for a Jew who is on the lowest level, Shlomis bas Divri (as the Midrash says), who was the only “one, and the Torah publicized her.” And all of this serves as a wondrous lesson for every Jew.Excerpt from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos parashas Shemos, 23 Teves, 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-01-2026 לזכות שיינא רוחמה בת שטערנא שרה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה י"ז טבתלשנת ברכה והצלחה רבה ומופלגה בכל בגו"ר מתוך בריאות נכונה ומנוחת הנפש והגוףנדבת הורי' ר' חיים ברוך ושטערנא שרה שיחיו אלבסקי

ב' חלקים משיחת מוצאי ש"פ מקץ, שבת חנוכה, אדר"ח טבת ה'תשל"ח ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-12-2025 Synopsis Although the halachic conclusion is that Chanukah is a time of “praise and thanksgiving” and not “rejoicing,” nevertheless, since according to the Rambam it is also a time of joy, it is fitting and appropriate to conduct a joyous celebration at least once during Chanukah, not as an obligation, but as a custom. Though it is true that one must recognize his own virtues, and it is true that great and wondrous things have already been achieved in spreading Yiddishkeit and the wellsprings of Chassidus outward, reaching places never imagined etc. – still, not every Jew and every place has yet been reached; there remain the “small jugs” that delay the “end to darkness.” Since lately there has been an increase in darkness, and we need “Hashem to illuminate the darkness,” therefore, to break through even the final spots of darkness, it is proper and necessary to increase in joy. Since this celebration is a novelty even compared to the joy of the hakafos on Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah, it is therefore an even greater joy, and with it we will dance to greet Moshiach Tzidkeinu, may it happen very soon.2 excerpts from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos parashas Mikeitz, Shabbos Chanukah, first day of Rosh Chodesh Teves 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-12-2025 לזכות הרב יעקב בן הינדא שי' צירקוס ליום ההולדת שלו כ"ג כסלולשנת ברכה והצלחה ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

And the Maggid explained that the truth is that one can derive a lesson for Divine service (“fruit”) from everything, even from a non-Jew, and even from a non-Jew who fights against Yiddishkeit. For example, the following story of the Baal Shem Tov: A non-Jewish wagon driver once asked the students of the Baal Shem Tov to help him pull his wagon out of the mud. When the students replied that they weren't able to help him, the non-Jew replied, “Mozhesh da nye chotshesh” – “You can, but you don't want to!” The Baal Shem Tov explained that the lesson from the words of this non-Jew is that every Jew has the necessary strength to serve Hashem; the issue is only that sometimes he doesn't want to....Excerpt from sichah of 15 Tammuz 5720 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-12-2025 לזכות צביה בת חיה ריסה שתחי' ונגר ליום ההולדת שלה י"ז כסלו - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

When they arrived, his father opened the aron kodesh and read the first half of the Iggeres HaKodesh beginning, “She girds her loins with might.” Afterwards, the Rebbe (Rashab) Nishmaso Eden told my father-in-law that in the presence of his holy forebears, he was entering into a covenant with him and entrusting him with the leadership of communal matters both physical and spiritual; he explained that was hereby bringing him to an “Akeidah,” and that in an Akeidah, there must be both one who binds and one who is bound, in order for the sacrifice to be as it should be. The work must begin with the “loins” (kabbolas ol), which must be “girded” with “might” (mesiras-nefesh). And what is mesiras-nefesh? The conviction that it must be this way and no other; this was the Akeidah. (He then finished reading the Iggeres HaKodesh.) The fact that my father-in-law the Rebbe told us the details of this event that marked the preparation for his entry into work on behalf of the public is to teach us that for us to properly carry out the mission entrusted to us by the Rebbeim – our work of spreading Yiddishkeit and spreading the wellsprings of Chassidus – it must be done specifically through the preparation of mesiras-nefesh and the conviction that it must be this way and no other. It must be like the mesiras-nefesh of Avraham Avinu: Avraham didn't seek out mesiras-nefesh; rather, he was focused on his mission of publicizing G-dliness in the world. And since he had the conviction that it must be done this way and no other, therefore, he was undeterred even when he encountered trials like the furnace in Ur Kasdim etc.Excerpt from sichah of 12 Tammuz 5720. Why did Avraham accept extravagant gifts from Pharaoh but adamantly refuse even the smallest present from the King of Sodom? This week's Parshas Lech Lecha episode explores a striking contradiction that reveals a fundamental principle about spiritual growth: you can't become more spiritual at someone else's expense.Through a remarkable Midrash about Avraham's debts and a powerful story about the Skoliner Rebbe's last three matzos before Pesach, Reb Asaf Aharon Prisman uncovers an often-overlooked prerequisite for authentic spiritual development. The episode examines how our pursuit of personal stringencies and higher madreigos can sometimes blind us to our obligations to others—and why true tzidkus requires extraordinary sensitivity to how our choices affect those around us.You'll discover the difference between genuine avodas Hashem and spiritual selfishness, learn how to identify when your personal growth might be creating problems for others, and understand why sensitivity to others isn't just a nice middah but the essential foundation for all ruchniyus advancement. Whether you're navigating personal chumros, considering life-altering spiritual decisions, or simply trying to grow in your Yiddishkeit, this episode offers crucial Torah wisdom for authentic spiritual living.Prism of Torah brings deep Torah analysis with practical application, making complex concepts accessible for everyday Jewish life. The Mitteler Rebbe was so deeply engrossed in his learning that he did not hear the child crying, but the Alter Rebbe, who lived upstairs, heard the crying and came downstairs to return the child to their cradle and calm them down. The Alter Rebbe told the Mitteler Rebbe that even if one is deeply immersed in Torah and davening, etc., he must always hear the cry of a Jewish child and stop what he is doing to calm the child down. Recently there has been an awakening among the Jewish youth, who are “crying” and searching for Yiddishkeit. The lesson from this story is that even if one is busy with very important and lofty things, priority must be given to assisting yeshivos that educate children with authentic Yiddishkeit according to the Torah of Truth – to enable these institutions to accept as many “crying” children as possible. Moreover, there are children who don't even know that they should be crying because they don't know what they are lacking – and priority must be given to providing them with a proper Torah education. This is the mission of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch. The same applies in a broader sense: lately, the state of the world is such that nations and people are like a child who has “fallen from their cradle” – having gone off the track of righteousness and justness. Every person can and must do their part to improve the situation by adding in righteousness and justness, and especially by strengthening education etc.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, parashas Noach, 4 Marcheshvan 5723 – to supporters of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-10-2025 לע"נ מרת הינדא בת ר' ירוחם פישל ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלה ד' מרחשון. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

Then comes the Yom Tov of Shemini Atzeres, which was established because “It is difficult for Me to part with you.” The reason it is “difficult” (as explained regarding the teaching, “as difficult as the splitting of the Sea of Reeds”) is because when Jews part, it is a departure from Hashem's will, which is that all Jews should be together. It is just that the parting necessary in order to bring Torah and Yiddishkeit to all corners of the world. And through the Yom Tov of Shemini Atzeres, which emphasizes Jewish unity (“one bull, one ram”), the unity continues ever after they part.
