Bilam was arguably as great as Moshe, so how is it possible his life's journey ended up so diametrically opposed to that of Moshe's?
The Rebbe supports the girls' request for a prayer space, noting it strengthens their commitment to Yiddishkeit and future homes. He encourages finding a simple, suitable place and suggests they also learn halacha. He concludes with a reminder to maintain the daily study of Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya. https://www.torahrecordings.com/rebbe/igroskodesh/015/011/5587

From time to time, Hashem performs open miracles; in our generation it began with 13 Tammuz and the events that followed, all of which resulted from a Jew firmly deciding not to take into account anything that opposes Yiddishkeit, because the reality is that anything that opposes Yiddishkeit has no control over a Jew whatsoever. And if a Jew was “taken captive among the nations,” and he argues that he has never heard about this before, the response is that his connection to Torah and Yiddishkeit began before he entered this situation and before he was born, because when he was in his mother's womb, “A candle was lit above his head... and he was taught the entire Torah.” This is his true reality, and the world has no power to change it; he is simply called upon to return to his true reality. And it would be a shame for him to wait until he understands it; rather, “We will do” must come before “We will hear,” and ultimately he will come to understand it as well. Especially because he himself knows that his great-grandparents and the generations before them lived this way, sacrificing their lives for it. This is the lesson from the liberation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, which he instructed to print and publicize, that every Jew was liberated as part of the same liberation that he experienced. And all of this is bolstered even more when we gather in a place of Torah and a place of davening, and the place where he learned and davened; “holiness does not depart from its place,” and “Just as his offspring is alive, he too is alive.”2 excerpts from sichah of Monday night, parashas Balak, 13 Tammuz 5745 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=09-07-2025
Sponsored by Canada Rosens Thank you for your fresh and very practical perspective on Torah and Yiddishkeit. In particular, your re-framing of the Aguna "Crisis" into a choice between marriage v.s. pilegesh was excellent. It's a great example of how the world uses inflammatory positioning to get us to lose sight of the ikkur issue. Keep up the great work.
ונתינת-כח מיוחדת להתעורר ולגלות זאת, הוא – הגאולה די"ב-י"ג תמוז, ששייך לכל יהודי אפי ל"גם את אשר בשם ישראל [רק] יכונה" [המשך יבוא]משיחת אור ליום ג' פ' בלק, י"ג תמוז ה'תשמ"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-07-2025 Synopsis The lesson from the imprisonment and liberation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, is that a Jew can only fulfill his purpose when is a free person. Since the Exodus from Egypt a Jew is inherently free (even the external limitations exist only to give him free will so that he can choose to keep Torah and mitzvos as a free person). As the Rebbe emphasized, even in prison he demonstrated that he was not deterred by his imprisonment at all, and in all matters of Hashem, Torah, and mitzvos, he remained a free person, as he proclaimed openly on 3 Tammuz before being sent into “exile” – “Only our bodies were placed into in exile and subjugation to the nations,” and even then, it was by Hashem; therefore it is understood that exile has no control over a Jew in all matters of Yiddishkeit, and this approach led to his complete liberation after a very short time. The lesson is that even a Jew who finds himself “forced by his inclination” or who was “taken captive among the gentiles” etc., in essence he remains a free person, and a child and servant of Hashem, and it is certain that “none who is banished will remain banished.” We are especially empowered in this regard by the liberation of 12-13 Tammuz, which is a liberation for every Jew, even one who is only “called by the name ‘Israel.'” (To be continued.)Excerpt from sichah of Monday night, parashas Balak, 13 Tammuz 5745. Generally, when the authorities want to arrest a suspect, the first thing they do is prevent him from talking to anyone else without supervision etc., but in this case, the officers who came to arrest him (which included a Jew, who, as a person with free will, is even harder to deal with) asked him to go to another room to talk to his mother privately (to calm her). This is something that defied nature completely. The lesson is that anyone who reflects on their life will see that they are surrounded by miracles, and therefore, when a Jew makes a calculation and concludes that he shouldn't be involved in spreading Torah and Yiddishkeit because he has no chance of success according to nature, the response is that none of these calculations have any place for a Jew, whose behavior is not bound by nature at all. And certainly one should not make such calculations at someone else's expense.
