In this episode of the Meaningful People Podcast, Nachi Gordon sits down with Rabbi Shmuel Diamond for an unforgettable conversation about one of the most dramatic transformations you'll ever hear. Rabbi Diamond grew up completely secular in North London, in a world where the very idea of God was treated as ridiculous, and didn't learn the Aleph Beis until he was 21. He takes us back through his years of searching, traveling through India, chasing photography, and sinking deeper and deeper into drugs, until he hit a point so low he knew something had to change. Then came the small, almost absurd moment in a Manchester shop that he still points to as the night his teshuva truly began.   From there, the conversation follows his climb back, his move to Israel, and his journey to becoming religious. Rabbi Diamond shares how discovering Rabbi Manis Friedman's teachings on Tanya completely changed his approach to Yiddishkeit, taking him from a Yid who looked the part to someone who finally felt genuinely connected.   He also shares the story behind his "Journey to a Blessed Life" course, which is helping thousands rebuild their relationship with themselves, with others, and with Hashem. In this episode of the Meaningful People Podcast,  and  dive into one of the biggest struggles facing the Jewish world today: are we creating people who truly think, feel, and connect… or are we just creating followers? From anxiety and burnout to authenticity, leadership, inner purpose, and the fear-based versions of Yiddishkeit many people quietly wrestle with, this conversation goes far beyond surface-level inspiration. Rabbi YY Jacobson challenges listeners to stop seeing themselves as powerless products of "the system" and instead rediscover the "prophet" inside every Jew.    The episode also explores painful but deeply relevant topics like division within the Jewish community, trauma, parenting, mental health, spirituality, and why so many young people feel disconnected despite living more comfortable lives than any previous generation. Rabbi YY shares powerful insights about anxiety, ego, relationships, healing, and what it really means to have a relationship with Hashem that brings a person alive instead of consuming them. This is one of the most raw, philosophical, and emotionally charged conversations we've ever had, and one that will challenge the way you think about Judaism, identity, and yourself.  This episode was made possible thanks to our sponsors: ► PZ Deals   Download the app and never pay full price again!   https://app.pz.deals/install/mpp    _________________   ► Colel Chabad Pushka App   The easiest way to give Tzedaka   https://pushkapp.cc/meaningful   _________________   ► EL AL From the Hebrew announcements to the Israeli atmosphere onboard, flying EL AL feels like Israel before you even land. But unfortunately, the emphasis on the family unit has been completely neglected, even in families that keep Torah and mitzvos. We see what happens, Rachmana litzlan, when the father, mother, son, and daughter live in four separate worlds instead of operating as a single family unit, by placing an emphasis on the children honoring their parents and the parents “teaching them to your children,” which causes the parents and children become important in each another's eyes etc. All the more so in families where the children have lost their way from Yiddishkeit and wander about “confused in the land,” which results from parents being preoccupied with their own concerns and leaving the children to find their way alone in the darkness of exile. One practical suggestion for preserving the family unit is that at least on Shabbos, and especially during the Shabbos meal, the entire family should sit together and talk about Shabbos etc. And when a family is healthy on Shabbos, that causes it to be healthy during the week as well.2 excerpts from sichah of 10 Shevat 5734 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-05-2026 לזכות מושקא בת חנה חי' שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ד אייר - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

In this episode of the Meaningful People Podcast, Rabbi Manis Friedman returns for one of the most thought-provoking conversations yet. From modern dating and marriage to masculinity, loneliness, relationships, and what it really means to need another person, Rabbi Friedman challenges some of the most accepted ideas in today's world. He explains why he believes marriage is not about compromise, why dating has become so broken, and why so many people feel alone even while surrounded by others. The conversation then takes a deeper turn into Yiddishkeit, purpose, and Rabbi Friedman's controversial belief that Hashem "needs" us. He explains why he believes this idea changes everything about mitzvahs, relationships, Mashiach, and the meaning of being Jewish. Whether you agree or disagree, this episode will leave you thinking differently about your relationship with other people, with yourself, and with Hashem.   This episode was made possible thanks to our sponsors: ► PZ Deals   Download the app and never pay full price again!   https://app.pz.deals/install/mpp    _________________   ► Colel Chabad Pushka App   The easiest way to give Tzedaka   https://pushkapp.cc/meaningful   _________________   ► 12 Stones Realty Discover 12 Stones a luxury private home community in the breathtaking Jerusalem Hills, combining nature, serenity, and elevated living just minutes from Jerusalem. Chas v'shalom to “deliberate” whether to fulfill a clear ruling in the Laws of Shabbos (Orach Chaim 329) which states: “If gentiles besiege Jewish cities…in a city near the border, even if they have come only for matters of straw and stubble, Shabbos is desecrated against them” to defend the Jewish people. In this regard, it makes no difference whether it is Eretz Yisroel or the diaspora. And “The Torah will never be changed” – no one can change a ruling in the Shulchan Aruch. The only path, and the guaranteed path, to achieve true peace in Eretz Yisroel (according to its borders – completeness of the land, together with completeness of the Torah and completeness of the people), and true peace wherever a Jew is found, is to “walk in My statutes and keep My commandments and perform them,” including this halacha in the Laws of Shabbos. “And I will lead you upright” – we must not be intimidated by goyim or by goyishkeit, and when a Jew stands firmly to defend Jews and Yiddishkeit, then, even when “darkness covers the earth,” even when we are still in exile, “Hashem will shine upon you.”Excerpt from sichah of Tuesday, parashas Ki Savo, 14 Elul 5740 – to the campers of Camp Gan Yisroel and Camp Emunah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-05-2026 לע"נ הרב לוי יצחק ע"ה בן – יבלח"ט – הרב חיים צבי שי' וואלאסאוו

We talk about the momentous years he spent in Great Neck as a kid and why he set his novel in 1970, the ne'er-do-wells and drug addicts he knew (and emulated) in school, how Great Neck has changed since his "glory days," and the larger-than-life Yiddishkeit ghost who haunts the novel. We get into how he managed to weave Irving Berlin, Floyd Patterson, and Leslie West into the story, how his wife got him to finish the book by putting up post-it notes in their kitchen about each chapter, and how he reconstructed 1970 Great Neck from his collection of the notes girls used to pass in schools and the letters his friends sent him from reform school. We also discuss life after losing his dad, Bruce Jay Friedman, in 2020, how he used to take his 14-year-old pals to see showings of Bruce Jay's play Steambath so they could catch the nude scene, how it felt to see pieces of his childhood transformed in his dad's stories (incl. a visit to Las Vegas), what's left of the New York of his heyday and why he misses Joe Franklin, the play he's writing about his chauffeur days, his retirement from his lifelong guitar career after a carpal tunnel diagnosis, and more. And if you don't tell another Jew the whole truth, then later when someone does, and that Jew is awakened and transformed, he may come back to you with a complaint for not having told him earlier…Ahavas Yisroel requires drawing every Jew near, without conceding even the slightest detail. As the Gemara relates about Rav who, upon arriving in Bavel, “found an open area” (a lack of observance with regard to meat and milk, eruvin, and using a tree on Shabbos), “and he fenced it in” (Rashi: “he imposed stringencies upon them in order to make a safeguard and distance them from sin, like a person who fences in a breached field to protect it.”). And in was precisely in this way that Bavel become a place of Torah, to the extent that “the halachah follows Bavli.” The lesson is that when one encounters a breach, an area in Torah in which the generation isn't careful, the correct approach is not to relinquish any aspect of Yiddishkeit, but on the contrary, to “fence it in” by adding additional stringencies. Even if at first people won't be happy about it, nevertheless, since this is Hashem's will as set forth in the Torah whose “ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace,” this is the true expression of Ahavas Yisroel, and in the end they will thank him for it.Excerpt from sichah of 19 Kislev 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=24-04-2026 לע"נ מרת מלכה רייזל בת הרה"ח ר' מרדכי דובער ע"ה ראזענפעלד ליום היארצייט שלה ח' אייר. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשל"ז ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-04-2026 Synopsis In every person, especially a Jew, there are two aspects: the individual identity, and the fact that one is a part of the collective whole. Therefore, these two aspects are also found in the Korban Pesach, which was the preparation for the Exodus from Egypt, at which time the Jewish people were born: On the one hand, it is an individual offering, but on the other hand, it was brought by the majority of the community. The lesson is as follows: There are governments where the individual has no importance at all, and is totally absorbed within the collective. But the Torah approach is that the individual is an independent entity and a “complete world,” which is always taken into consideration, and which sometimes outweighs the interest of the collective. This is also the virtue of the United States, a country to which many Jews escaped from behind the Iron Curtain, including my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who, immediately upon arrival, announced that he had come to demonstrate that “America is no different,” and that even here it is possible to conduct oneself in accordance with Torah and mitzvos – all of which was made possible because the community and the government of this country devoted themselves to saving an individual. For this we express gratitude to the government and to those who stand at its helm, who do their utmost to safeguard the rights of the individual, including the ability to keep Yiddishkeit freely.Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nissan 5737 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-04-2026 לע"נ הרב לוי יצחק ע"ה בן – יבלח"ט – הרב חיים צבי שי' וואלאסאוו

It is easier for children to fulfill this abovementioned mission of influencing their parents than it is for parents to fulfill their mission toward their children. Because for parents to influence their children, they sometimes need to use a sharp word or gesture etc., but that is never necessary when it comes to children influencing parents, due to the parents' great love for their children. If children simply speak to their parents with respect and with words that come from the heart, explaining that they want the home to be conducted as a Jewish home in every respect, including preparing for Pesach in such a way that it will be a kosher and happy Pesach – it is certain that the parents will gladly fulfill their children's request. Children who have already done so should continue, and those who have not yet done so should begin: every boy and girl should approach their parents and speak to them about Yiddishkeit in general, and about preparing for Pesach in particular, and they should promise, and demonstrate that they truly mean it, by personally taking part in the preparations – and then their words will surely have their desired effect.Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nissan 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=24-03-2026 לזכות זעלדא בת חי'ה ריסא שתחי׳ ונגר ליום ההולדת שלה ו' ניסן - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אבי' ר' שמואל שי' ונגר

Jewish security is not determined by political reality but by spiritual alignment. A Jew's passion for Yiddishkeit must remain constant—both in inspiration and in struggle. Our finite effort awakens an infinite response from above that creates real success. Redemption follows a process: preparation and purification come before transformation. This class, taught by Rabbi Shais Taub, is based on Parshas Tzav in Likkutei Sichos Vol. 1.

And this is the reason why my father-in-law, the Rebbe, began writing and publishing his memoirs at the time, and in different languages. Seemingly, if the goal is draw a Jew closer to Yiddishkeit, why would he send a book of memoirs rather than a maamar Chassidus that he can understand etc.? The answer is that there were Jews who were so focused on the wants of the animal soul that they wouldn't even allow a maamar into their home; therefore, he put material whose content is Torah and mitzvos in the external form of stories and memoirs, so that they would read it and ultimately be drawn to the inner content as well. This explains how he could devote his time to writing memoirs at the expense of composing maamarim (which seemingly is totally illogical): when it comes to saving a Jew from drowning in the sea of ignorance Rachmana litzlan, there is no room for logical calculations – if one cannot be pulled out of the water with a maamar etc., then he must be pulled out with a story whose content will eventually place him in a place of light. In this way it is possible to raise “offspring who are alive” even in Egypt, and thereby “he, too is alive.” But according to halacha, a person does not fulfill the mitzvah of pru u'rvu unless one's children have children of their own. Therefore, it is not enough that “his offspring is alive”; rather, those offspring must themselves make sure to give life to others.Excerpt from sichah of 10 Shevat 5726 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-03-2026 לזכות חוה בת דבורה לאה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה ג' ניסן - לשנת ברכה והצלחה‏, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

This transformation creates a new reality, like the effect of teshuvah, through which “intentional sins become like merits,” a transformation from one extreme to the other. When one encounters a Jew who is on the level of “pur” (as a result of being “taken captive among the nations), one must “turn him around” until he begins to dance with the greatest joy (ad d'lo yada – to the point of “not knowing”) from the privilege of being one whose “laws are different.” Despite the fact that “We are still the servants of Achashverosh,” and the name of the Yom Tov remains “Purim,” nevertheless we reveal that “hu hagoral” (“it is the lot”) – something that transcends reason and intellect (“lo yada”). Similarly, we transform all matters of “Persia and Media” into holiness by serving Hashem in such a way that “All your deeds are for the sake of Heaven” and “Knowing Him in all your ways” (as the Rambam states, the first mitzvah is “to know that there is a Primary Being who brings all existence into being.”).2 excerpts from sichah of Tuesday, parashas Tzav, Purim 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-03-2026 לעילוי נשמת ר' אברהם ב"ר חיים יהושע ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלו ט"ו אדר (א'). ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.נדבת בנו ר' מאיר שי' זקלס

But the truth is that the his escape is only a superficial reason for his coming to America; if one looks at it more deeply he will see that it is part of the bigger picture of his primary focus and the purpose of his mission in this world, which is to unite the Jewish people by spreading Yiddishkeit. The lesson is as follows: even one's eating and drinking etc. should not be “different” from his davening and learning; they too must be part of his service of Hashem (by making a bracha before and after etc.), because every aspect of a person draws its vitality from his soul as part of the “Man,” who is called “Adam” because “edameh l'Elyon” (“I will emulate the Most High”).3 excerpts from sichah of 10 Shevat 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-02-2026

Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe Podcast Collection

In this special Ask Away “Junior Edition” of the Everyday Judaism podcast, recoded during the Super Bowl Halftime, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe opens the floor to a group of young yeshiva students (ages 12–14) who ask thoughtful, deep questions on halacha, Torah, and Jewish life. The rabbi answers with warmth, clarity, and practical wisdom, often tying responses to broader lessons in emunah, mitzvot, and character.Key questions & answers:Aryeh Buchwald: Why does Hashem put us in Olam HaZeh instead of straight to Olam HaBa? — To remove “bread of shame” (nahama d'kisufa). If Hashem gave reward without earning it, we'd feel shame. This world lets us earn Olam HaBa through free will (bechira), overcoming challenges, and building a real relationship with Hashem.Shlomo Chaim Lieberman: Why is Yisro called “Chosen Moshe” and “Kohein Midyon” after his introduction, not just “Yisro”? — Yisro had seven names/titles. He explored every religion before discovering truth in Judaism and converting. The titles highlight his journey and stature—he overcame big challenges to join Klal Yisroel.Ephraim Yaghobian: Can a Jew work cleaning a church room that doesn't contain Avodah Zarah/Idolatry (e.g., priest's office)? — Generally permissible if no actual avodah zarah is present and no direct involvement in idolatry. Still, a God-fearing person may prefer to avoid any connection or send a non-Jewish worker instead. Each case should be asked to a local Orthodox rabbi.Yitzi Wolbe: Why does Gemara argue back and forth instead of just giving the halacha? — Judaism is about seeking truth (emes), not blind faith. Questions are essential—every page of Gemara has questions & answers to verify and deepen understanding. Other religions often forbid questions; Yiddishkeit welcomes them because truth withstands scrutiny.David Balsam: Why wait 6 hours after meat but only 30 minutes after milk? — Meat flavor lingers longer (stays between teeth); milk clears quickly. Hard cheese (e.g., Swiss) follows meat's waiting time because its flavor also persists.Shlomo Wolbe: Why so many different Minhagim (customs) if all Jews follow Torah? — Halacha gives a framework; minhagim are individual/community expressions of fulfilling mitzvot. Everyone must follow core halacha, but variations (e.g., hat styles, prayer customs) are allowed as long as they're rooted in Torah. Hashem loves diversity within unity—12 tribes each had their lane.Aryeh Buchwald: Is it allowed to pretend not to be home when a meshulach (charity collector) knocks? — Avoid outright lying (“I'm not home”). Better to say “I'm busy now” or “not able right now.” Don't say “I have nothing” (opens ayin hara). Giving with a smile is a huge privilege—Hashem sometimes appears as the poor person to see how we treat Him.Shlomo Chaim Lieberman: Eruv on Shabbos—why do we need it? — Biblical prohibition against carrying from private to public domain. Chazal created eruv as a rabbinic solution: string around neighborhood makes it one domain. One of seven major rabbinic enactments (others include netilat yadayim, Shabbos candles). Observe meticulously—many communities have multiple eruvim. The rabbi praises the boys' depth and encourages asking questions—Judaism thrives on seeking truth. Please submit your questions at askaway@torchweb.org_____________The Everyday Judaism Podcast is dedicated to learning, understanding and appreciating the greatness of Jewish heritage and the Torah through the simplified, concise study of Halacha, Jewish Law, thereby enhancing our understanding of how Hashem wants us to live our daily lives in a Jewish way._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Marshall & Doreen LernerDownload & Print the Everyday Judaism Halacha Notes:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RL-PideM42B_LFn6pbrk8MMU5-zqlLG5This episode of the Everyday Judaism Podcast by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe of TORCH is dedicated to my dearest friends, Marshall & Doreen Lerner! Everyday Judaism · Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe

Because this was the practice of idolaters…” The lesson is as follows: When the yetzer comes and claims that there is a certain idea that could bring decoration and beauty to Yiddishkeit, and attract those who have strayed etc. (and although it is done by non-Jews, it argues that “The Merciful One desires the heart” etc.), the response is: First and foremost, you must see whether this practice accords with Hashem's will, and if it does not, it is forbidden to do it. What leads to true beauty is the path Yiddishkeit in accordance with Hashem's will. (2) Every Jew is entitled to the greatest reward for his fulfillment of Torah and mitzvos. As it says Torah Or, “We find that Nevuchadnetzar, because he took three steps in honor of the Holy One, blessed be He, was granted kingship over the entire world for him and his descendants after him…There is no Jew who has not honored Hashem in this way, and one deserves all the good of this world.”Excerpt from sichah of 25 Nissan 5745 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-02-2026 לזכות מרת סימא בת גיטא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ט שבטלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות‏

Regarding the benefit of beginning to make a tumult about Purim thirty days before Purim, there is a source for it a Mishnah: “On the first of Adar, an announcement is made regarding the shekalim” so that the people will bring their shekalim by the first of Nissan. The reason the Alter Rebbe doesn't mention anything about thirty days before Purim in his Shulchan Aruch is because the obligation of preparing thirty days before applies only to certain things (such as the obligation upon every individual to bring three korbanos on the Festivals); it would be is impossible to make it an obligation to prepare for every aspect of Yiddishkeit thirty days beforehand! However, when we see that last year we were lacking in terms of the activities related to Purim, there is certainly nothing wrong with applying this advice from the Mishna and beginning to campaign about Purim thirty days in advance. Neither the Alter Rebbe, nor the Nasi of our generation, nor one's yetzer tov, will come with any complaints; the complaints will come only from the “foreign god who is within you”… Additionally: we are talking about inspiring another Jew to increase in something joyous. So even if it turns out that it is not exactly a mitzvah or custom etc., what is the wrongdoing in that?!Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, parashas Sisa, Purim Katan 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-02-2026
