Homeschooling goes far beyond choosing curriculum and planning field trips. It is equally as important to establish a firm grasp on why we are homeschooling and what our homeschool philosophy is. I so enjoyed this conversation with Angela where we had a chance to get honest about the ups and downs of our homeschooling journeys. We chatted about important mindset shifts we have had to embrace along the way and old paradigms we are moving away from. Are you considering homeschooling but you are fearful? Are you in the thick of it and need some encouragement to keep going? Join us for this inspiring conversation! In this episode, we cover: Making schooling decisions based on each individual child's needs Finding the balance between giving yourself grace and pushing yourself Tips for keeping little ones occupied while homeschooling older siblings Freeing yourself from expectations and embracing the flexible schedule of homeschooling Encouraging learning to extend beyond textbooks and worksheets into valuable life skills Recognizing perfectionism in our kids and helping them learn through failure Reframing our perspective about what is most important for our children to learn Math curriculum reviews for kids that struggle with math Protecting our kids' mindsets around their ability to learn What if you are nervous to homeschool? Adam and I were lucky enough to be able to speak with CR Braniff. CR is the husband to author Angela Braniff who authored the book "Love without borders" which describes how a deep sense of "purpose" and faith has lead this couple to adopt 6 kids (5 at the time the book was released) to join their already growing family of 4. It was inspiring to hear how CR described daily life with 8 kids. His views on faith, and joy through living life with a deeper purpose, was refreshing and felt very contradictory to what seems to be a society currently obsessed with instant gratification and dopamine rushes. CR's love for his kids, and wife really shine through in this discussion. It is quickly evident how what others may view as a "Herculean" task of trying to raise a large family from diverse backgrounds, with diverse needs, all while sustaining and expanding a farm and nurturing a marriage, is the only way this man can picture living a life of fulfillment. His joy and enthusiasm in his chosen path, is endearing. By the end of the conversation it becomes clear that CR's "chosen" path, doesn't feel to CR as though it was chosen BY him, so much as it was chosen FOR him in the form of a spiritual calling. During the entire conversation I couldn't help but notice how this man described how keeping his focus on his faith, family, and especially his wife, made what seems like a heavy workload feel routine to him. Every comment he makes, and every story he tells, reflects the incredible perspective that CR has gained through living his life for a bigger purpose than himself.

We’ve all faced that moment: feeling called to something, have a desire for something, and thinking “nah, that can’t be for me it’s too _____.” We’ve been there. The crazy difficult or different calling. “Why would God choose me to do that?” “What would people think?” Today, Angela Braniff joins us to chat through her calling, how it’s crazy different, unique and beautiful all at the same time and how her bold “yes” changed everything. It’s easy to opt out, say “ehh” or pass it off to someone else. But, what could happen, what would you learn, how much goodness would you see if you said “yes?” Angela Braniff is the founder of the popular YouTube channel, This Gathered Nest. I recently read a book called Love Without Borders about a woman with eight children: 2 biological, 4 adopted (both domestic and international), and twins which she adopted as embryos and gave birth to herself! She runs the popular YouTube channel This Gathered Nest, hosts a podcast, homeschools, and is an avid adoption advocate. None of this was in her life “plan,” but it was in God’s plan, and she let Him lead the way. I needed to ask her how she has time to brush her teeth, much less care for and homeschool 8 kids while writing a book and running a successful business from home. This week’s podcast is with Angela Braniff, who shares the beautiful, painful, messy, lovely and real story of letting go and embracing the unexpected. Whether or not we see Him, whether or not we feel Him, God is always near, walking beside us no matter where we go. YouTuber and mother of eight Angela Braniff shares how she checked all the boxes to gain a “perfect” life, until she realized Jesus’ life was about far more than giving her what the world considered “perfect.” By warily trusting God’s plan, and learning that she didn’t have to please others, Angela stepped out in faith and discovered a life more fulfilling than she’d ever imagined for herself. Jennifer Greenberg was a victim of abuse for twenty-one years, and in her darkest moments, she cried out to God, wanting to know if He was there. When she clearly heard God say that He would never forsake her, it all changed for Jennifer. She learned to trust God with her anger, moving forward into freedom and healing. One of God’s greatest gifts is the healing we can find in forgiveness, whether we’re learning to to love and accept others or even ourselves. April 19, 2020 marked the 25th anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing, when Bud Welch’s 23-year-old daughter Julie was tragically killed in the blast. Bud shares how he turned his grief into compassion for Bill McVeigh, father of the bomber Timothy McVeigh. Bud is joined by Jeanne Bishop, who recounts how these two fathers shared losses and became the unlikeliest of friends in her new book Grace from the Rubble. After years of struggling to find her way as a young adult, Christine Carter found herself trying to fill the hole in her heart with food. After a heartbreaking encounter with a family member, Christine embarked on a journey to learn how to change from the inside out. Along the way, Christine learned God loved her just as she was, she began to love herself too—and now she’s striving to help others learn to love themselves and cultivate a healthier mindset and lifestyle in her brand-new book Weight-Loss Hero.
