Do you know someone who needs an attitude check? Are you nodding your head yes? Great! But first, let's check our own attitudes at the door. This is something God has been showing me throughout my day and life, when my attitude is negative or focused on complaining. He showed me through a few instances, that when I have a bad attitude or let other's bad attitudes affect me, I miss opportunities to be a blessing! Think about it, if we are to serve others with a good attitude and to do good works like Ephesians 6 tells us, then how can I do that effectively if I have a sour attitude towards what I am in the position of doing? I have to ask myself, "What can I do today to help me remove barriers that keep me out of the pit of my bad attitude and shake off others that pull me down with them? The old saying goes, "My response is my responsibility". This saying was something that shook my core and changed my attitude, during one of the times, I should have been helping the one that I loved, but instead focused on me. Then, I realized my stinking attitude had seeped into that conversation and the work I was doing. The one small step of giving myself a heart and attitude check with God was humbling and just what was needed. Turning to the Lord, changed everything! Perhaps, you have struggled like me with a bad attitude when helping others and need an encouraging word to know you are seen, appreciated, and loved! So grab your cup of coffee, get on your walk or run, and wherever you are ---- BE ENCOURAGED! In this episode, Dr. Kamphoff shares why it is important to remember we have a negativity bias. Still, we can counteract that negativity by choosing not to believe everything we think. Instead, we can remember to see the opportunity in every difficulty.   This week's Power Phrase:  “I choose a good attitude regardless of what I cannot control. I talk to myself not listen.”

It's one of the fastest growing natural food brands in recent years, but better-for-you snack maker LesserEvil still has plenty of room to scale. Literally. The vertically integrated company just opened its second production facility in its home state of Connecticut, one it views as the next step towards expansion into mainstream retailers. Best known for its organic popcorn and identified by the cherubic Buddha-like icon on the front of every bag, LesserEvil debuted in 2005. Its current trajectory, however, began in 2011 when former bond trader Charles Coristine acquired the company, which, at the time, was nearly bankrupt. In the time since, LesserEvil has become a nationally distributed brand that is available at Whole Foods, Target, Publix, Walmart, Costco and Sprouts. In addition to popcorn, the brand markets a broad range of snacks, including its corn-based “Space Balls” and onion ring-inspired “Moonions,” as well as those made for kids and toddlers. The products are made without seed or vegetable oils and are USDA certified organic and/or Non-GMO Project Verified.  In this episode, Charles talks about the company's self-manufacturing model and how it relates to retail strategy, innovation and gross margin, why making organic foods affordable is both moral and fiscally wise and what he's learned about staffing, leadership and branding. Show notes: 0:35: Charles Coristine, CEO, LesserEvil – Taste Radio editor Ray Latif speaks with Charles at LesserEvil HQ in Danbury, Connecticut about the brand's foray into the club channel, the reasons for its“slow and methodical” approach to growth and why he's getting more comfortable using the title of “founder.” Charles also talks about why he's in the production facilities “multiple times a day,” his increased focus on operations and his belief that “everything can be learned and it's all just about attitude.” He also explains why great brands are grounded in authenticity; how demand planning impacts ingredient sourcing, sales strategy and innovation pipeline; and why LesserEvil markets products designed for specific age groups. Charles also talks about how being vertically integrated allows the company to sell its products at affordable prices, why he believes founders need to be “super scrappy” if they want to self-manufacture, why he's wary of “over-hiring,” and the most rewarding part of his journey as CEO. Brands in this episode: LesserEvil, Rind Snacks, SOMOS Foods

A champion is someone who gets up when he can't” - Jack Dempsey It's a hard thing to explain to someone if they haven't gone through something incredibly difficult and challenging, and refused to back down. It can also seem like an unfair thing to explain to a young athlete. When talking to a child, a psychologist probably wouldn't be too happy with a coach saying physical effort is not enough, and that deep inside that child has an extra gear, a 6th or 7th gear they need to tap into to take their game to the next level. I've had to do that before. It's tough and I need to be careful with my words, but I'm not in the happiness business. I'm in the high performance business. I'm in the growth business. I'm in the “I'll be happy when I'm improving as a tennis player while trying to achieve my goals” type of business.  It's not for everyone. I say it all the time. There's multiple ways to enjoy tennis. Choosing the right path is important because that's where you'll find true happiness. Neither one is wrong. But if being the best tennis player you can possibly be during competition is the tennis journey that's for you, then you need to know the difference between a good attitude and a champions attitude, and embrace it. I'm a big believer in positive thinking, but it wasn't always that way. I used to be skeptical, cynical, always trying to anticipate what could go wrong in a situation. But one of the benefits of aging, for me anyway, is that I've shed a lot of those tendencies. But does a positive mindset play any role in bringing fitness to people over 50? That's the question on this week's episode of the Optimal Aging podcast, and I'm excited to welcome my friend Joe Martin to the show. Joe is all about positive thinking. In fact, his book and podcast are called Relentless Positivity, and he uses that approach at his successful fitness studio in Huntsville, Alabama, which serves women over 40.Scientific studies show that positive thinking is good for our health. In fact, one found that having a positive attitude as we age can add 7.5 years to our lifespan. So, to answer my question — yes, a positive mindset is crucial to helping anyone reach and maintain fitness, but especially for the older market, which is overlooked and underserved. Joe is a successful studio owner and a great guy with a lot of life under his belt. In particular, we discuss how important it is to have a clear goal and plan and to take action even when things are not going well. You will also learn how today's salespeople can learn from the movie by taking more time to prepare for their calls and by thinking ahead to the end goal. Tiffany Koettel is a Sandler Sales trainer who has been a professional sales leader for over 20 years. She's a creative problem solver driven by values and vision to achieve goals at all levels. Focused on building solid relationships grounded in trust and communication, Tiffany is passionate about delivering results and guiding others who share her values to do the same. When we think of someone with a good attitude, Abraham's wife Sarah is probably not the first person who comes to mind. We might think of her arguments with Abraham, how she laughed at God's good news, her harsh dealings with Hagar, how she lied to Pharaoh. But in 1 Peter 3, Peter commends Sarah as a model for all women for her "quiet and meek spirit." What happened in Sarah's life to turn this feisty, contentious, rebel of a woman into God's royal princess? In this message, Jill teaches us about Sarah's lifeher shortcomings and how God turned this rebel into royaltyand how giving God control in our own lives can transform our attitudes like it did for Sarah. Have you ever been in a situation where your child wakes up as Mr. Grumpy pants, and you feel like you're walking on eggshells around them?  Their negative energy affects you and everyone else in the household, and they have no idea how to deal with the bad attitude. What we can do to help them as parents is to show the flip side of what it will look like if they choose to be in a good mood. This author spotlight is on Wendy Fedan! Wendy is a full-time illustrator, caricaturist, and the author of multiple books. Wendy's picture flip book, The Very Very Very Bad/Good Day!, is a story that illustrates how a negative attitude affects what happens to your day. In this episode, we discuss how our kids can choose between a good and a bad mood, how negativity affects their day and the people around them, and how to help them take charge and be accountable for their attitude. Wendy also shares her journey to writing, the struggles and rejections she faced before publishing books, and her advice to aspiring writers who want to publish their own books. Learn more about Wendy Fedan>> https://cawbooks.weebly.com/ Grab the book The Very Very Very Bad/Good Day! Steve's coolness can be boiled down to this one quote from the show: “Surfing is so much better than not surfing.” He went to college to be a middle school history teacher but that doesn't pay. So, he became a CEO instead. Pretty natural transition if you ask me. Business owner, CEO, and “World's Greatest Dad”, Steve Walker talks about life as the youngest of 4 brothers, unleashing the monster within, and how he manages family time through it all. This episode is great for people struggling with self-awareness, doubt, and having no clue wtf you want to do. ----- Show Notes: (11:00) - How did cold calling prepare you for CEO (26:30) - Steve recommends you never get over imposter syndrome (30:00) - Become a monster, temporarily (01:02:00) - Lessons learned from riding waves ----- Links: * https://www.tbconsulting.com/ ----- Episode Quotes I Enjoyed “Half of my success has been being dumb enough to stick with it and grit, the other half is emotional intelligence and the relationships I've forged” “When you have your first child, your selfish self dies” “If you can control you [inner demons] they're no longer inner demons, they're assets.” Bradley Cooper as Henry Girard quote mentioned: “I'm not a bad man but in certain situations, I have to ask myself, ‘What would a bad man do?'” ---- If you liked the episode, subscribe for more!
