Women Worth Knowing

Anne Bradstreet was a young Puritan woman with ink-stained fingers and a heart full of dreams. Growing up in 17th-century England, she found solace in her father's library. Anne felt a God-given calling to express herself through poetry. Her faith grew stronger after a battle with smallpox as a teenager. The suffering drew her closer to God.Anne married Simon Bradstreet, a man of wisdom and quiet strength. He saw the gift God had placed within her and encouraged her to write.Together, they journeyed to the New World, settling in the rugged wilderness of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Anne clung to her faith and found comfort in poetry. She poured her heart onto parchment. To her, Anne's words were an act of worship. Then came the fire that consumed her home. All her family's earthly possessions were turned to ash. But rather than letting grief consume her, Anne turned to God. Through her sorrow, she penned verses of trust and surrender. Her resilience and unwavering faith became a light to many. Soon, her brother-in-law took Anne's poetry to England, where it was published, making her the first published female poet in America. Though she never sought fame, her words carried weight, offering insight into faith, perseverance, and the unique struggles of womanhood in a rigid Puritan society. As the years passed, Anne remained devoted to writing, using her gift to leave a legacy of faith. Anne's words, shaped by both sorrow and hope, continue to inspire generations.Tricia Goyerhttps://triciagoyer.com/books/Anne BradstreetAnne Bradstreet–The Complete Collection (Kindle Edition) by Anne BradstreetThe Poems of Anne Bradstreet (Christian Heritage Paperback) by Anne BradstreetGreat Women in Christian History by A. Patrons hear if she'll ever set a book in Vienna. Heart of the Glen by Jennifer DeibelCan the lonely thread of her life be woven into a new and finer pattern? When Saoirse Fagan arrives at Drumboe Castle to start her new job as housemaid, she is dismayed to learn that the lord of the house passed away a week prior. Already running from the tragedy that claimed the lives of her family members, Saoirse wanders the road through the darkening glen with nowhere to go until Aileen McCready offers her a lift and a place to stay for the night. Aileen's brother, sheep farmer and weaver Owen McCready, is known for his intricate and impeccably woven tweed. But when he's injured, his entire livelihood is endangered. A new--and distracting--mouth to feed adds fuel to the fire, and Owen struggles to keep his family afloat. Though Saoirse is eager to help, even offering to learn the weaving craft, Owen is hesitant to accept aid from this strange young woman, no matter how inexplicably magnetic he finds her. But Saoirse is not one to give up easily. She's determined to convince the McCreadys that they need her--perhaps as much as she needs them."Jennifer Deibel is an amazing writer and storyteller. Practical Tips for Helping Kids Manage Anger

Million Praying Moms

We have spent this entire season talking about anger, both in our children and in ourselves. We had a crash course in what anger is from a science or biology standpoint, talked about the cycle of anger, learned what anger is from a biblical standpoint, and even touched on the power of learning to control our thoughts so we can help our children do the same (go back and listen to the season if you haven't already). It's been a robust season from a content perspective, and if the amount of struggle I had putting this season together is any indication, God is moving in people's lives...at least I pray so. Today though, I want to leave everyone with a lot of practical application for helping their children learn to manage anger in a positive way, so I invited counselor Michelle Neitert to join us. She is adding her professional experience to the conversation, and offers several incredibly practical tips for parents and caregivers.  Tune in now to glean from her wisdom. You won't want to miss this show! Today's show is brought to you by our newest Prayer Guide,  Praying God's Word for Your Angry Child, by Tricia Goyer. Praying for your angry child is essential because it is a way to invite God into your child's life. As parents, we want the best for our children. We can read books, attend therapy sessions, and try different techniques. Ultimately, we are still determining what we can do. However, when we pray for our children, we ask God to intervene. We acknowledge that we cannot fix everything independently and surrender our children to God's care Praying for your angry child doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming, it just has to be done. With biblical teaching on anger, scripture-inspired prayers, and space to journal using our Think, Pray, Praise method of daily prayer, this digital prayer guide is perfect for the busy mom who needs God to move in the hearts of her kids. Understanding Anger (What the Bible Says)

What does the Bible have to say about anger? When we're talking about the Biblical application, or understanding of what anger is, we're talking about what's happening in the heart. Early philosophers and scientists, like Aristotle, believed the heart was the place to find the human soul, and the Bible, in some ways, supports this. The Bible has a lot to say about anger, and as a Christian first, and someone with degrees in Psychology and Counseling second, I choose to look at science through the lens of scripture. In today's episode we're going to define the following things: What IS "righteous anger," and can we really use it as an excuse? Why does the Bible say we experience anger? What does anger achieve for us? Are we getting what we want? Where does anger come from?  What should a believer do when they're experiencing sinful anger? Tune in now, and discover what the Bible has to say about what happens in our hearts (and what we can do to overcome)! Today's show is brought to you by our newest Prayer Guide,  Praying God's Word for Your Angry Child, by Tricia Goyer. Praying for your angry child is essential because it is a way to invite God into your child's life. As parents, we want the best for our children. I'm a reactor. My gut response is to react to the circumstances of life. I can feel it bodily. My heart rate speeds up, my face gets flushed, and I start having ALL the thoughts. All of them—good, bad, and everything in between. In 20 seconds or less, my mind has already contemplated every worst-case scenario and may or may not have tried to convince me they're eminent. Thankfully, I've almost (key word, almost) mastered learning not to speak of or act on them until I've had time to process them privately. That's a choice I've realized I need to make that goes against what I'm actually feeling on the inside. It's a choice we all have as the Spirit of God is at work in us. On this week's episode of the podcast, we'll learn about the cycle of anger, and how we can learn to interrupt it in ourselves, and then help our children do the same thing. Tune in now! Today's show is brought to you by our newest Prayer Guide,  Praying God's Word for Your Angry Child, by Tricia Goyer. What is anger? We've all felt it at one time or another, and most of us understand that it's a reasonable, human response. But how does Science define anger? What does it look like in our children? How can we recognize it? More than that, how can we understand what's happening in our minds and bodies when we get mad, and how can that translate to helping our children? That's what I'm going to attempt to settle for us in today's episode. Learn more about how anger works, the response it creates in our bodies, the cycle our emotions take when we experience it, and how it relates to other emotions in this short, but information-packed episode. Today's show is brought to you by our newest Prayer Guide,  Praying God's Word for Your Angry Child, by Tricia Goyer. To kick off our conversation about angry kids this month, I dug all the way back in the archives of the Million Praying Moms podcast to episode #17, where we interviewed author, podcaster, and mom, Tricia Goyer about her new book at that time called Calming Angry Kids. As I tried to plan for this season, I just couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather have share with you on this topic, so I decided to clean up the older episode a bit and share it again today. For those of you who are new around here, the extra voice you'll hear is that of my previous ministry partner and cohost, Erin Mohring, whom we all miss dearly. In this episode, Tricia walks us through what she's learned from raising, fostering, and adopting a family of ten children. You won't want to miss it. Movies, television, and novels falsely represent dating and marriage, giving us unrealistic expectations of what true love looks like, setting our young women up for difficulty and disappointment as the illusion dissolves. If you have influence in the life of young women, listen in for this excellent resource.
