A Walk Around California Adventure - Soundscapes Across the Park

Take a leisurely stroll through all of Disney's California Adventure. It quickly became clear that I wasn't going to get the recording I set out to caoture, as this particular day seemed challenging to get the sounds I often seek, but it remains a great snapshot in time. This is truly an episode where headphones will greatly enhance your experience. It's a pleasant late Spring evening in a bustling California Adventure, the sun is casting evening shadows but there's still ample light for a couple of hours. Entering the turnstiles we are welcomed by well-acclimated guests who have been around for much of the day already. The chatter is more exuberant than early morning hours, muffling the familiar tunes of the area loop. As we venture further down Buena Vista Street and steer toward Hollywood Land, the unmistakable voices of beloved Pixar characters weave into the ambiance – it's Pixar Fest, after all!Over in Hollywood Land, Club Pixar has taken festive control of the back area. We check out the Pixar shorts playing in the former entrance to Hollywood and Dine, but dodge the loud music in the backlot and head back to the Animation Building for some relaxation.Understandably so, the fan-favorite spot was busy with Animation Academy and Turtle Talk getting out at the same time, so we scurry through the always enjoyable Off the Page and then head toward Avenger's Campus. After a leisurely stroll through the land, we emerge onto the Parade Corridor. A quick detour takes us to the cascading wonder of Grizzly Peak's back waterfall to only stand off to the side to take in the Pixar Pier Parade Corridor mix before heading through Cars Land. There we take in the normal ambiance including a cycle of Luigi's.We then make our way through San Fransokyo Square to catch a little J-pop and then make our way through Pixar Pier. Strangely, there were a few areas where music is normally playing that were just simply off.Later, we catch a portion of the Pixar Fest parade, Better Together. A few moments of lively jubilation from the parade, it was time to relax through the best means I know… Redwood Creek Challenge Trail area music. While the play area was under refurbishment, the speakers still provide the somber, softer melodies that can bring anyone to a peaceful state. We then pick ourselves up and pass by Grizzly River Run and jaunt through Grizzly Peak Airfield before exiting the park for the evening. I hope you enjoy your evening tour.Audio recorded on Friday 5/24/2024 around 5:15PM. --------------------Donate to the Show:Help keep Park Sensory going with a one-time donation. Little is left of Halloween anywhere, but if you look hard enough, there are still some spooky spots left. Otherwise, the holidays have moved in hard and fast! Garland is abound at Disneyland and California Adventure, the tree on Main Street has been installed, Sleeping Beauty Castle is a snow-capped sight to behold, and so much more! – https://www.micechat.com/338333-disneyland-news-a-storm-is-brewing/ The Festival of the Holidays is coming soon, which is why the booths have been moved out into Disney California Adventure. Spotted so far have been “Winter Sliderland,” “Visions of Sugarplums,” “Making Spirits Bright,” “Holiday Duets,” “Grandma's Recipes,” “Favorite Things,” “Brews and Bites,” and “A Twist on Tradition.” – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/05/photos-food-booths-are-up-for-festival-of-holidays-at-disneyland/ The holidays don't officially start at Disneyland until November 11th, but there is a ton of new merchandise that is on sale all over the resort. From Loungefly backpacks, to Minnie Ears, to Spirit Jerseys, and so much more, there is something for everyone! {talk about the options} Check out the links in our show notes for all the details and for LOTS of pictures. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/06/whats-new-at-disneyland-resort-over-250-pieces-of-merchandise/ and https://www.micechat.com/336345-holiday-merchandise-2022-arrives-at-disneyland/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/11/new-hanukkah-merchandise-arrives-at-disneyland-resort/ What would the holiday season at Disneyland be without a cool popcorn bucket! This year, the seasonal bucket comes with a special feature: it plays music! Starting November 11th, guests can pick one of these delightful buckets up at the resort. The bucket can be wound up on the bottom like a music box, and will play music while holiday scenes rotate around the bucket, AND there is still room inside for a good amount of popcorn! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/05/alert-a-musical-holiday-popcorn-bucket-is-coming-soon-to-disney-world-and-disneyland/ A new seasonal treat is coming to Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express in Downtown Disney. This time, the beignet flavor of choice is the Maple Pecan Pie Glazed beignets. The beignets are glazed and covered in a candy pecan and graham cracker crust, and come with a side of autumn spiced creme anglaise dipping sauce. These are available now. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/02/maple-pecan-pie-beignets-are-now-available-in-disneyland/ Starting a little later than the kickoff to the holidays at the resort, the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will have the “Grand” Gingerbread House. The house is a replica of the hotel, standing 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide. It is made out of 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 250 pounds of fondant, and 600 pounds of gingerbread. The gingerbread house will also feature 25 hidden Mickeys adorned around the sweet model. The GCH Holiday Cart will also feature some gingerbread goodies. {check out the entire list} Inside the parks a gingerbread Mickey Ear Hat Bowl and a gingerbread Bottle Topper will be on sale.  – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/11/disney-eats-unveils-new-foodie-guide-to-cant-miss-gingerbread-displays-2022/ Festival of the Holidays hasn't started yet, but like most things for the holidays, some of the merchandise has already arrived at the resort. Festival of the Holidays 2022 pins are available in a number of different designs and are limited edition. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/11/festival-of-holidays-2022-pins-arrive-at-disney-california-adventure/ Magic Shots are here for the holidays from your friendly neighborhood PhotoPass photographer! There are some options in front of the Christmas tree on Buena Vista Street, and a Magic Key specific shot by Silly Symphony Swings. Guests typically have 45 days to download their Magic Shot photos through their Disneyland account before they disappeared, but that has been extended to a full calendar year! – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/11/holiday-magic-shots-now-available-at-disney-california-adventure-photo-expiration-date-extended/ Guests who have been heading to the resort from the Harbor Boulevard side may have noticed that for a while now, the sign for the resort has been looking less than stellar. Fear not! The crews are already at work on repainting the sign and getting it back in pristine order for guests to be welcomed to Disneyland, as well as thanking guests for visiting. MiceChat thinks that it might be getting a facelift to promote Disney100, which will be centered in Disneyland. – https://www.micechat.com/338333-disneyland-news-a-storm-is-brewing/ Weeklyteers who love to shop, this next story is for you! At select locations, there is now the option to order items through mobile checkout and then come and pick it up later in the day. The store will hold the item, which could be amazing for some of the hard to get or larger items for sale in the parks. To be clear, a guest needs to go into the store and purchase the item through mobile checkout like before, but now there is an option to have them hold it for you. – https://www.micechat.com/338333-disneyland-news-a-storm-is-brewing/ Over at the Animation Building in Disney California Adventure, two sisters are back for their meet and greet! Anna and Elsa are finally back meeting with their subjects. They are really popular, so be ready to wait for a bit in line to see them. – https://www.micechat.com/338333-disneyland-news-a-storm-is-brewing/ Discussion Topic: Holiday Foodie Guide! – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/11/disney-eats-delivers-the-foodie-guide-to-holiday-treats-at-disneyland-resort-2022/

While the Star Wars Experience currently under construction at Walt Disney World Hollywood Studios will no doubt be incredible, it puts Disney in an interesting transition phase.  With a new Star Wars movie being released every year, fan interest at an all-time high, and Walt Disney World Hollywood Studios under major renovation, including the addition of a 14 acre Star Wars land (that’s at least 18 months away) how do you keep guests coming back? The answer is temporary Star Wars Experiences that are available every day, not just on the weekends.  Of course Star Tours, including new Episode VIII footage and Jedi Training Academy have always been available, add Star Wars Launch Bay – the Star Wars reimagined Animation Building along with a “First Order March” led by Captain Phasma, a stage show/photo opportunity, “A Galaxy Far, Far Away” and a nightly fireworks “Symphony in the Stars”.  This episode of Sams Disney Diary features footage from April 2016, including the stage show, Captain Phasma processional and fireworks including the dessert package.   This is the “temporary fireworks” Symphony in the Stars that will be replaced by “Star Wars a Galactic Spectacular” fireworks / projection show currently under construction and scheduled to start this summer.  Looks like I’ll need to plan another trip ;-)  While Disney may have enough to satisfy the average Disney-Star Wars fan, for those of us who loved Star Wars Weekends, there is too much missing to fill the void.  Celebrity motorcades, the 501st Legion, Stars of the Saga Talk Shows, celebrity autographs – I’m sure the new Star Wars Experience will be worth the wait, but it’s going to be a painful 2016 and 2017 as we wait for the opening.   I’m not sure what I miss the most… Hyperspace Hoopla, the 501st Parade, Stars of the Saga, celebrities or maybe “James Arnold Taylor”. At least I have older episodes of Sams Disney Diary to look back on, and so do you! Be sure to check out the video in the bonus section of the app and check out the blog at www.samsdisneydiary.com

Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios is about to embark on a major transformation. In many ways, that transformation has already begun. The removal of the Sorcerers Hat, the closing of the Backlot tour and the Animation Building may have captured the headlines, but the process started years ago with the disappearance of some of the “hidden gems” of the Studios. Here are 5 of my favorite Hollywood Studios Hidden Gems that are gone forever.... be sure to check out the blog at www.samsdisneydiary.com

The Toy Story Zoetrope is located inside the Animation Building at Disneys California Adventure. When still, it looks something like a carousel with rows of figures of Toy Story characters in various poses. When it starts spinning the strobe light action begins, which gives the impression that the figures are performing an animated sequence - Jessie spins a rope, Woody rides a bucking Bulls-Eye, Buzz walks on a big ball, a little green man waves, and so on. ********************************* This videocast is brought to you by: Listeners LIKE YOU! **Rated PG-Headphones Suggested** This special edition of the Meandering Mouse takes on a different and somewhat of a reflective tone as I prepare my mind and spirit for an upcoming Disneyland trip at the end of August. The audio featured on this episode of The Meandering Mouse is 100% from Disneyland...the original that started it all! First, we revisit some of the very first audio clips I took while I first meandered through Disneyland back in October of 2005. The Meandering Mouse wasn't even thought of at this point because I didn't have a podcast. This type of audio is RARE...I don't know of any other Disney podcasters that have audio recorded of themselves experiencing Disneyland for the very first time. It really takes me back to that special feeling I had walking around alone in Walt's original park for the very first time on a chilly evening in October...I even get LOST which is funny to hear now that I know the parks on both coasts like the back of my hand. The other neat thing in regards to these recordings is that you can hear how the quality of my meanderings have improved over time. To be honest, the quality is quite rough on these early recordings...levels are all over the place and there are some spots with some REALLY NASTY wind and vibration. It is quite listenable though...no doubt about that. After the early first steps into Disneyland recordings, I shift gears and play some newer audio from my trip to DL this past Feb. However, the audio is just of me literally meandering through the park with no purpose. It's fun to come along with me as I take in my surroundings and point out certain details I notice along the way. Next, we visit The Sorcerer's Workshop at The Animation Building in Cali Adventure where myself and my Disneyland Cast Member friend (Toast) take Disney personality tests using the enchanted books in the Beauty and the Beast Library. Last, I leave you with a high quality and fun experience over at Monsters Inc. I think this is one of my best recordings of one of the newest attraction at DL. I finally captured one of my favorite gags and details of the attraction while making my way through the queue area.
