Last week we shared how the better part of 7 decades took George Lucas as a child from the Disneyland Park gates in 1955 through to creating the cinematic masterpiece Star Wars to working with Disney to build Star Tours the attraction to even selling Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company. Today we step off from that point to see how Star Wars Galaxy's Edge came to be. We'll share the moment it was announced through development and construction. Remember Seasons of the Force and Star Wars Launch Bay? We'll talk about that. I'll share my feelings entering Star Wars Galaxy's Edge during the first week of operation at Disneyland, and the subsequent chaos of Disney's Hollywood Studios opening. And then there is Rise of the Resistance, followed by Rise of the COVID-19. Join us for some remarkable insights on the creation, opening and operation of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, all on the 5th anniversary of this attraction. __________________________________________________ My new book, A Century of Powerful Disney Insights, Volume I 1923-1973, The Walt & Roy Disney Years is available! OK, so let's face it, these two "Attractions" kinda suck in their current iterations. One isn't even open to the public but rather houses a make shift DVC lounge, the other acts as a small museum and maybe the only place in DHS where Darth Vader can be seen because of the ridiculous time window box Disney painted themselves in in Galaxy's Edge. So before you hard core star wars fans get all excited about new TSR Star wars content, curb your enthusiasm and take this opportunity to learn about what used to be in these spaces. The fascinating history that both of these spaces boast is worth the listen. Hear Dan and Erik explore the detail and history of America Sings and The Backlot Studio tour respectively. Hear Jimmy get increasingly frustrated that they haven't gotten to the topic at hand. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Star View Station will have a mid-century space theme and have areas for seating, device charging, free wi-fi and more. It will be located on the second floor of what is now the Star Wars Launch Bay. This points to the liklihood that a Tomorrowland renovation, if there was one, would not include knocking down this building. – https://www.micechat.com/331420-disneyland-news-fancy-new-dvc-lounge-headed-to-tomorrowland-next-year/ Magic Keyholders have some additional discounts available from September 21st through October 14th. At certain locations around the resort, the merchadise discount has been increased to 30%. For a full list of locations where the higher discount is available, visit Disneyland.com, or the link in our show notes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/09/01/special-discount-announced-for-magic-key-holders-in-disneyland/ As we reported on previously, some areas around the resort are transitioning to terf and moving away from water-hungry natural grass. Two highly visible areas were just converted and look pretty good. The Haunted Mansion, which just returned in it's holiday form had it's grass replaced, and arguably the most visible grass around the floral Mickey in front of the train station on Main Street has also transitioned to the new terf. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/09/01/disneyland-rolls-out-the-green-carpet-with-more-artificial-turf-around-the-park/ With the return of Halloween Time at Disneyland, the monsters are taking over Mission Breakout once again. Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark is back this year. For those of you who may not know, after 4pm the attraction is taken over by monsters and becomes a little more scary and thrilling. – https://www.micechat.com/324041-disneyland-halloween-time-and-oogie-boogie-bash-guide-2022/ Somehow we had completely passed over what the gingerbread house design was going to be this year in the Haunted Mansion Holiday! This year's design features Lock, Shock, and Barrel, the mistivious trick-or-treaters from Nightmare Before Christmas using a guillatine to cut some cake. – https://www.instagram.com/p/CiDKnZlNREn/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Something new this year for Halloween is the Mickey and Friends Halloween Cavalcade. The cavalcade features a lot of characters, with heroes and villains represented, in their Halloween costumes as they go trick-or-treating down the parade route. – https://www.micechat.com/331802-disneyland-news-photo-update-everybody-scream/ The villains are really throwing quite a dance party in Tomorrowland each evening. From 7-11pm each night, a DJ will play some spooky tunes while dancers, villains, and guests dance the night away. There is a break from 9:15-10pm during the fireworks to be aware of. – https://www.micechat.com/331802-disneyland-news-photo-update-everybody-scream/ One of the most fun and unique things about getting photos from PhotoPass photographers is the magic shots available. For the Oogie Boogie Bash, there are two new options. The first is Zero, Jack Skellington's ghost dog, and the other is Oogie Boogie himself as a shadow over the full moon. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/09/06/these-exclusive-disney-magic-shots-are-positively-ghostly/ As with most holidays celebrated at the resort, there is more new collectibles available for Halloween Time. First up is a new Mickey Pumpkin Globe Sipper, which features the pumpkin Mickey like on Main Street. The globe sipper is available at various quick service locations for $20.79. Fans of Coco and specifically Dante will want to pick up the straw clip that features the colorful dog at Cochina Cucamonga in Disney California Adventure for $7.99. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/09/05/disneys-new-halloween-collectible-is-a-cup-and-a-snow-globe/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/09/dante-from-coco-straw-clip-now-available-at-disney-california-adventure/ Discussion Topic: D23 Expo – https://d23expo.com/D23Expo_2022_Event_Guide_Map.pdf Oogie Boogie Bash – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/09/first-look-at-the-2022-oogie-boogie-bash-guide-map-and-trick-or-treat-bags-at-disney-california-adventure/ Halloween Time – https://www.micechat.com/331802-disneyland-news-photo-update-everybody-scream/

Source: Disney Parks Blog Discounts on three older properties for direct purchase DVC has reintroduced discounts for three older properties: Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort, and Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Old Key West and Saratoga Springs currently have a base price of $200 per point while Polynesian is set at $250 per point. The supply of points at these resorts is limited given their "sold out" status. Net prices for Old Key West and Saratoga are on par with Riviera while Polynesian is considerably higher than even Grand Floridian. The idea is that Disney would use the membership program to make it more attractive for guests and customers to increase spending on all its products and services. For Disney, it would give more consumer data as to your spending habits and more.So would this mean the retirement of programs like D23? How would DVC and Annual Pass perks stack up against this? --Foodie Guide to Halloween Sweets and Treats at Disneyland ResortHalloween season is on now at Disneyland Resort! This year, the season will run from September 2nd through October 31st. The standard seasonal decor, Halloween-themed attractions, and photo ops will be back. Haunted Mansion Holiday, the Halloween Screams fireworks, Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark and all the Cars Land favorites will also return. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/06/fall-favorites-return-to-disneyland-resort-beginning-sept-2-2022-with-halloween-time-oogie-boogie-bash-a-disney-halloween-party-and-plaza-de-la-familia/ Along with all the normal Halloween Time festivities, the Oogie Boogie Bash returns on 23 select nights from September 6th through October 31st, this time with the September 10th date being for D23 members only. Tickets will go on sale on June 28th no earlier than 9am Pacific, Magic Key Holders will have early access to a limited amount of tickets, with general sales beginning June 30th. There will be plenty of locations where guests can dance the night away to all different decades of music. Photo ops will also be available, along with, of course, plenty of fun food and beverage options. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/06/new-details-announced-for-the-first-ever-disneyland-after-dark-grad-nite-reunion-event/ Disneyland Paris celebrated its 30th anniversary back in April, and with it came a new nighttime spectacular that utilized drones. Disneyland is exploring ways to use drones in future spectaculars, but is still very much in the blue sky, or early planning stages. One of the challenges is the location of the park near neighborhoods and highways. Other massive drone shows take place in more rural areas like desserts. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/06/10/disneyland-explores-ways-to-use-aerial-drones-in-nighttime-spectaculars/ This past Sunday, a favorite classic villain returned to Tomorrowland. Darth Vader is now meeting again the the Star Wars Launch Bay for a limited time. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/06/11/darth-vader-is-returning-to-disneyland-for-a-limited-time/ Not all is happily ever after at Snow White's Enchanted Wish at Disneyland. Most of the projections after the poison apple scene have not been working recently. This doesn't make the attraction un-rideable, but it does lose a lot of the magic of the re-imagined attraction. – https://www.micechat.com/323777-disneyland-update-poison-apples-summer-crowds-spider-fail/ Finally, there have been some progress happening at the entrance to Tomorrowland! However, these are not the changes that we had been promised when the old french fry rocks had been removed. No word on if this is temporary, or the new plan for the entrance. – https://www.micechat.com/323777-disneyland-update-poison-apples-summer-crowds-spider-fail/ A new dance party is happening nightly in Tomorrowland throughout the summer. Stitch's Interplanetary Beach Party Blast features some of your favorite characters in space suits performing groovy dance moves. It runs from 7pm-11pm nightly. – https://www.micechat.com/323777-disneyland-update-poison-apples-summer-crowds-spider-fail/ Fans of Buzz Lightyear and the upcoming Lightyear movie get excited! A new drink holder is coming to Disneyland based on the space ranger himself. The Lightyear gauntlet is very similar to the Thanos Infinity gauntlet that was for sale previously. The gauntlet should be available soon. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/06/09/youll-be-able-to-drink-out-of-buzz-lightyears-hand-in-disneyland-yes-you-read-that-right/ As we reported on previously, there is a new Paradise Pier hotel guest entrance to Disney California Adventure. The new pathway and entrance is now open for guests to use. Unlike the entrance to DCA from the Grand Californian, this entrance is exclusive to guests of the hotel, and your room key is required. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/06/11/news-disney-california-adventure-entrance-from-paradise-pier-hotel-now-open/ Last week, one of the performances of the Spider-Man stuntronic show didn't go exactly as planned. From video posted on Instagram from a guest at the show, it appeared that the stuntronic didn't release from the web line and came crashing down into the building where Spider-Man usually lands safely. The side of the building is designed to break away in the case of this type of malfunction, and by one of the shows later in the day, it looked like nothing had happened. – https://www.micechat.com/323777-disneyland-update-poison-apples-summer-crowds-spider-fail/ Discussion Topic: Nicolasa – Disneyana Fan Club – https://disneyanafanclub.weebly.com/

Use coupon code DLWEEKLY to get the discount. News: A few months ago, the top two Magic Key levels were listed as sold out. This week, the bottom two Magic Keys have also sold out. There is no word on when or if they will go back on sale. Speculation online thinks that this is because of the impending lawsuit around reservations and access tied to the Magic Key program. Even more speculation online thinks that the program may get reworked again before going back on sale. Only time will tell. – https://www.micechat.com/323209-disneyland-news-magic-key-locked-new-ca-resident-ticket-offer/ For Weeklyteers who are going to the park and who aren't Magic Keyholders, there is a great ticket deal available! California residents can purchase summer tickets to Disneyland starting as low as $83 per day. The ticket is a 3-day, one park per day ticket for $249 for Monday through Thursday admission, with weekend tickets starting at $299. For $60 more per ticket, park hopping can be added. Tickets are valid for trips from June 3th and September 15th, 2022. Not a bad value to get to see all the nighttime entertainment that has returned. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/05/31/new-ticket-deal-announced-for-select-disneyland-guests/ Star Wars Celebration was this past weekend across the street from the Disneyland Resort at the Anaheim Convention Center. A lot of Star Wars news was announced, even some parks news! Boba Fett and Fennec Shand were announced to be coming to Star Wars: Galaxys Edge, and then they were there over the weekend. Din Djarin, better known as The Mandalorian, and Grogu, better known as the Child were also announced to be showing up in the area soon. This is a break from the strict timeline that Imagineering has placed on the area, but promise that the characters from the different eras will not interact or be in the same area at the same time. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/13175/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_May_31__June_5_2022#news3 Anyone who has been to Oga's Cantina in Star Wars Galaxys Edge will know DJ Rex spinning tunes for the patrons of the establishment. Soon, guests can listen to some of his tracks on a new album that will be released. No firm date at the moment, but we will keep you updated once we see it online. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/05/27/videos-dj-r3x-from-disneys-ogas-cantina-is-releasing-an-album/ Signs outside of the Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland tease the return of the combined museum/store/photo op. No word yet on when this will reopen, but Cast Members are stationed outside of the location telling guests it should be returning soon. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ This past weekend, Fantasmic! returned to the Rivers of America to delight guests once again. The projections look clear and bright, the show scenes look fresh, and the show was amazing as always. The best way to get a great seat for the show is to book the River Belle Terrace dining package for $50 per guest, since they are using the same reserved seating area that the Blue Bayou usually uses. Once the Blue Bayou reopens, this area is expected to be shifted to the side more to accommodate the Blue Bayou guests. The Hungry Bear location is across from the Haunted Mansion and offers a side viewing angle for the show. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ June is here, which means that the busy summer season has started at Disneyland. The Disneyland Forever fireworks show will now play nightly with fireworks 7 days a week. During the non-summer and holiday season, Mickey's Mix Magic was played with projections only during the week, with fireworks on the weekends only. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ Last week, the most popular attraction in Disney California Adventure had an incident that has caused it to be closed ever since. Video online showed one of the cars on the outside racetrack portion of the attraction stopped and smoking. Though the vehicle never caught fire, the guests in the vehicle were buckled in with smoke coming from the rear. Cast Members did get out to the guests and exit them from the vehicle with no injuries. Disney has closed the attraction to investigate the incident to ensure it won't happen again. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ In Downtown Disney, food trucks have taken up residence by the old ESPN building to help feed hungry guests. These food trucks are expected to be there until at least July 4th. This is a great idea since the Earl of Sandwich is gone and there is a lack of affordable dining options, especially for larger families. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ Guests staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel can enjoy one of the hotel amenities again. The pool has finally reopened after a lengthy refurbishment. None of the stores or restaurants are open yet at the location, but it is great to have the pool open so guests don't have to walk over to the Disneyland Hotel to use their pool. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ Discussion Topic: DLWeekyl Vault: Former Aladdin a Musical Spectacular Genie Dylan Website – http://www.dylanwhite.com/ Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/itsdylanwhite/ Aladdin a Musical Spectacular Final Performance – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enW48NlXRj4

Most of the infrastructure has been updated and refurbished to get everything show ready, and the work on the pathways along the riverfront are wrapping up as well. We can't wait to see how the show looks after its long hibernation since COVID. – https://www.micechat.com/322309-disneyland-update-the-cost-of-magic-project-gateway/ A few episodes ago, we talked about the possible value of the Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge where guests can book a spot to have some goodies and watch the fireworks from the top section of the Star Wars Launch Bay. For $60, guests can come and go as they please from the lounge, and are treated to an entree, side, and dessert with unlimited assorted beverages. Food is ordered from the Galactic Grill upon check-in and then brought into the lounge by the guest. A badge and lanyard is also provided. Giant games are also on hand to keep everyone occupied. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/05/22/review-is-disneys-exclusive-tomorrowland-lounge-worth-the-we-found-out/ Guests who are seeking adventure and salty old pirates won't have to wait too much longer. The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction is not listed on the refurbishment calendar after July 1st, so it could open around that time! Disney has not announced an official date, and there are no dining reservations offered for the Blue Bayou for that time either, but with any luck guests will be celebrating the 4th of July with the swashbuckling pirates. – https://www.micechat.com/322309-disneyland-update-the-cost-of-magic-project-gateway/ Something that Avengers Campus has been missing since its opening last year is more shade and seating. Disney has listened and some covered tables and chairs have been installed next to the Avengers Headquarters. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/05/seating-installed-next-to-avengers-headquarters-at-avengers-campus-in-disney-california-adventure/ So this amazing movie came to Disney+ last week and the reviews have been pretty positive. Guests can now meet the stars from the movie at Disney California Adventure. Chip and Dale from the new Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers are appearing at the entrance to Hollywood Land, to the left of the Hyperion Theater for meet and greets. The crime fighting duo are dressed in their classic outfit from the TV show. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/05/chip-n-dale-meeting-guests-as-the-rescue-rangers-at-disney-california-adventure-to-celebrate-movie-premiere-on-disney/ We aren't going to cover this too much until things are finalized, but there is a change being proposed by Disney to its cast members to do away with the points system for attendance issues and move to an occurrence system. Very basically, this will make it easier for Disney to let go cast members with attendance issues and makes working at Disneyland less flexible for the cast members. We will keep an eye on this and let everyone know when there is an update. – https://www.micechat.com/322309-disneyland-update-the-cost-of-magic-project-gateway/ Discussion Topic: Disneyana – https://disneyanafanclub.weebly.com/we-are-back.html

The rope bridge that guests crossed over the path to enter the attraction has been taken down, and the tree in the middle of the path which housed the stairs to the bridge has also started to be dismantled. Two Disneyland classics now have the option of being topped with sour cherry sugar. The first is a cream cheese filled pretzel, with the sour cherry sugar on top, the other is a churro with the same sour cherry sugar, with the option of cream cheese dipping sauce on the side for $1 more. For the pretzel, the Disney Food Blog reported that the flavors worked well together, but are incredibly sweet. Guests can grab one at the Tomorrowland Pretzel Cart for $7.75. Some Star Wars themed hacks from our most recent trip to Disney's Hollywood Studios, on this very special day! #MayTheFourthBeWithYou It's still a few years before Star Wars Land will open at Disney's Hollywood Studios, but that doesn't mean you can't have a load of Star Wars themed fun now! Here are a few of my favorite hacks! Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/entertainment/hollywood-studios/star-wars-jedi-training/ Watch younglings train in the ways of the Force and put their skills to the test against the Dark Sides greatest villains! Hacks: - Get there EARLY! I cannot stress that enough - You MUST have your kid with you to get them signed up - Return for your show with plenty of time for your kid to get checked in and receive their instructions - This will also determine which of the villains your kid will battle during the show - Don't plan your FastPass+ too close to the showtime - Because this is an outdoor show, it is subject to cancellation due to inclement weather - Make sure you get a PhotoPass card from one of the photographers next to the stage - That being said, get a good spot to take your own pictures/video - Assess your kid and see if they are possibly too old or nervous in front of a crowd - Getting a Star Tours FP+? Get it for the end of the show since you're going to be there anyway Star Wars: Path of the Jedi: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/hollywood-studios/path-of-the-jedi-film/ A 10-minute film retelling the blockbuster Star Wars saga Hacks: - A great place for anyone in your party who is not comfortable riding a motion simulator like Star Tours to wait - Also a good place to get out of the elements if it's too hot or raining. Star Wars Launch Bay: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/hollywood-studios/star-wars-launch-bay/ Check out movie props from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, play games, snap photos, screen videos, and greet heroes and villains. Hacks: - Plan to spend some time there, especially if there's a Star Wars fan in your group - Guests with PhotoPass will get the most out of this experience - Meet Chewie, Kylo Ren and BB-8 (NEW) - Bring something to trade with a Jawa (I hear they like shiny objects, like Tamatoa) - Bring a Fiver ($5) for the penny smasher located just outside the gift shop (No pennies required) - If a Storm Trooper asks you to go with him, do it! (You can thank me later) Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/entertainment/hollywood-studios/star-wars-galactic-spectacular/ Hacks: - Position yourself in front of or between the projector towers (Follow these guidelines by WDW Prep School: http://wdwprepschool.com/the-best-nighttime-show-and-fireworks-viewing-spots-at-disney-world/) - Use the restroom before the show - Have someone in your group grab a spot while you take the kids on one more ride - If you're going to hold your kid, put them on your hip and NOT on your shoulders - Get a snack to enjoy while you wait for the show to start Any Hacks to share? While the Star Wars Experience currently under construction at Walt Disney World Hollywood Studios will no doubt be incredible, it puts Disney in an interesting transition phase. With a new Star Wars movie being released every year, fan interest at an all-time high, and Walt Disney World Hollywood Studios under major renovation, including the addition of a 14 acre Star Wars land (that’s at least 18 months away) how do you keep guests coming back? The answer is temporary Star Wars Experiences that are available every day, not just on the weekends. Of course Star Tours, including new Episode VIII footage and Jedi Training Academy have always been available, add Star Wars Launch Bay – the Star Wars reimagined Animation Building along with a “First Order March” led by Captain Phasma, a stage show/photo opportunity, “A Galaxy Far, Far Away” and a nightly fireworks “Symphony in the Stars”. This episode of Sams Disney Diary features footage from April 2016, including the stage show, Captain Phasma processional and fireworks including the dessert package. This is the “temporary fireworks” Symphony in the Stars that will be replaced by “Star Wars a Galactic Spectacular” fireworks / projection show currently under construction and scheduled to start this summer. Looks like I’ll need to plan another trip ;-) While Disney may have enough to satisfy the average Disney-Star Wars fan, for those of us who loved Star Wars Weekends, there is too much missing to fill the void. Celebrity motorcades, the 501st Legion, Stars of the Saga Talk Shows, celebrity autographs – I’m sure the new Star Wars Experience will be worth the wait, but it’s going to be a painful 2016 and 2017 as we wait for the opening. I’m not sure what I miss the most… Hyperspace Hoopla, the 501st Parade, Stars of the Saga, celebrities or maybe “James Arnold Taylor”. At least I have older episodes of Sams Disney Diary to look back on, and so do you! Be sure to check out the video in the bonus section of the app and check out the blog at www.samsdisneydiary.com

Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
Disney's Zootopia opened last weekend with record-breaking box office numbers for a March release. Naturally, Anthony and I didn't bother to see it. No worries, we'll both rectify that this week. A 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes certainly got our attention. Disneyland's announced April 2 closure of Super Hero HQ caught us all by surprise. What will be next for the Star Wars Launch Bay's attic? A preview center for Star Wars Land maybe? And what will happen when Captain America and Spider-Man are sent packing to DCA? Will the Mad T Party be replaced by a Mad A (for Avengers) Party? It's time to get some rumors started. Here's what else we've got Inside The Mouse Castle this week: Keep those calendars marked. The Jungle Book begins sneak peek screenings at DCA and Disney's Hollywood Studios on March 18. Frozen--Live at the Hyperion opens at DCA May 27 and Rivers of Light, the new nighttime water show at Disney's Animal Kingdom, debuts April 22. It was no coincidence the Walt Disney Company had its annual shareholders meeting in Chicago last week. It was a fitting reminder that the Windy City was where Walt was born. To mark the occasion, Bob Iger announced that the Company would donate $250,000 towards the restoration of the Walt Disney Birthplace. Disney Cruise Line will launch two new cruise ships in 2021 and 2023, bringing their fleet total to six. The as-yet-unnamed ships will have 1,250 staterooms each and will be larger than DCL's current biggest ships, the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy. Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out on Digital HD on April 1 and Blu-ray on April 5. Want a little variety with your trip to a galaxy far, far away? Retailers Target, Walmart, Best Buy and the Disney Store are all offering unique packaging and/or bonus materials. Big Hero 6 is moving to the small screen. An animated series based on the hit film will debut on Disney XD in 2017. A live-action movie version of The Nutcracker Suite? Disney is working on it and Lasse Hallstrom (The Hundred-Foot Journey, Chocolat) is slated to direct. Ten years after the original High School Musical hit big for the Disney Channel, casting calls are going out for High School Musical 4. Jeffrey Hornaday (Teen Beach Movie) will direct. Chris and James discuss the latest collecting news and what they think of the new LEGO Star Wars sets coming in 2016. Also, listen out for a LEGO related announcement regarding Jedi News too. All this and more on the latest Star Wars Collectors Cast.

Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
Disney is juggling its movie release schedule in 2017, which means you're going to have to wait an extra seven months before you get to see Star Wars: Episode VIII. Like the massively successful The Force Awakens. Episode VIII will open during the Christmas holiday season in 2017, moving from its previously announced Memorial Day weekend release. Sailing into that prime May slot will be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment of Captain Jack Sparrow's epic adventures. Even with Star Wars' December shift, Disney will still have a pretty busy summer 2017 slate. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 will open on May 5 and Pixar's Cars 3 will hit the streets on June 16. Anthony and I grab our popcorn and Red Vines and settle in for this week's edition of Inside The Mouse Castle: At Disneyland, you can now get an up-close look at the Disneyland Railroad trains and the old Frontierland train depot. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren has started putting in appearances at the Star Wars Launch Bay. We're also happy to learn that the Pope House, the historic former residence next to Disneyland's backstage Circle D Corral, has been preserved and relocated beyond the berm on Disney property. Its previous location will become part of Star Wars Land. Josh Gad (Frozen) will host an episode of The Wonderful World of Disney, celebrating Disneyland's diamond anniversary. Disneyland 60 will air on February 21 at 8:00 p.m. We're also intrigued by a "surprise" Gad promised this week via Twitter. Big surprise coming this Thursday — Josh Gad (@joshgad) January 25, 2016 We're really hoping it's a teaser trailer for Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast, set to open March 2017. Gad will play Gaston's (Luke Evans') loyal and dimwitted sidekick Lefou. Emma Watson (Belle) and Dan Stevens (Beast) also star in the highly-anticipated reboot of the tale as old as time. Building those virtual replicas of Disney theme parks (or Universal or Six Flags) will get easier with two new roller coaster video games coming out this year. We can't wait to get our hands on Atari's Roller Coaster Tycoon World and Frontier's Planet Coaster, which both promise levels of theming and immersion never seen before in a roller coaster sim. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://insidethemousecastle.libsyn.com/rss
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
Tim was at Disneyland last weekend for the Star Wars Half Marathon and finished the 13.1-mile course in just under two hours and eleven minutes on a sore left foot. Nick Arciniaga, the overall winner of the event, finished in about half that time. Sore foot. Yeah, that's his excuse. The weekend also gave Tim some time to finally explore the Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland, which he somehow managed to miss since it opened a couple months ago. It's a fun exhibit full of ship models, prop replicas and costumes, not to mention meet-and-greets with Chewbacca and Darth Vader. The Launch Bay has received some criticism for not being quite "WOW!" enough for Disneyland, but Tim thinks it accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do: engage Star Wars fans with some real live stuff they can see and interact with until Star Wars Land finally makes its debut at the park, we hope, in 2018. Here's what else Tim and Anthony have going on in this week's episode of Inside The Mouse Castle: Oscar nominations were announced last week and films under the Disney umbrella fared well, although there were a few disappointments. Neither Star Wars: The Force Awakens nor Inside Out landed Best Picture nominations. Star Wars was recognized with five noms in mostly technical categories, while Inside Out landed nominations for Best Animated Feature and Original Screenplay. Sanjay's Super Team was nominated for Best Animated Short Film while Cinderella did likewise for Costume Design. The Oscars will air on February 28 on ABC. Bob Weis is the new president of Walt Disney Imagineering. He's been heading up the Shanghai Disney Resort project (which we now know is opening June 16) and was creative lead for the Disney California Adventure expansion and the original Disney/MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios). The Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show will end at Disney's Hollywood Studios on April 2 to make way for the upcoming Star Wars and Toy Story expansions at the park. Inside The Mouse Castle sends its condolences to the family and friends of former Disney Channel star Michael Galeota and actor Brian Bedford. Galeota passed away January 10 at age 31. Bedford, a respected stage and screen actor who voiced the title role in Disney's animated Robin Hood, died at the age of 80 on January 13. It's hard to believe, but Disney's High School Musical is ten years old. The Disney Channel celebrated with an anniversary special this week featuring the original cast. The Force is wide awake on this week's episode of Mousetalgia as we celebrate everything Star Wars, from past to present. First, we take a look at Disneyland's "Season of the Force," and discuss Hyperspace Mountain, the Star Wars Launch Bay, Star Tours' new trip to Jakku, and various food offerings - and of course, the new merchandise. Then, we welcome Emmy-Award winning writer Jymn Magon to the show to talk about his role in bringing Lucasfilm and Disney together all the way back in 1978 for the creation of the first Star Wars Little Long-Playing Record. Magon talks about the development of the project, working with George Lucas (and pulling rank on Steven Spielberg) - and much more. And finally, Jeff and Kristen offer our first SPOILER-FREE response to "The Force Awakens," and we discuss the characters, the music, the feels, the nature of the Force, and how the new film works in comparison with its predecessors. Plus - our earliest Star Wars memories, that infamous Holiday special - and more.
Today I talk a little about Star Wars Launch Bay, The Good Dinosaur, and the Gran Fiesta Tour. Follow me on Twitter @dailydisneyblog
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
We're less than two weeks away from the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters. The most surprising thing, though, is we're a week away from the film's star-studded world premiere and we have no idea where it's going to be held. Just add it to the ever-growing list of tightly-held Star Wars secrets we've come to expect from J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm. We're guessing they'll tell us eventually. Maybe. Here's what else we've got going on this week Inside The Mouse Castle: The search for who'll play young Han Solo in a new Star Wars spin-off film is underway. No less than 2,500 actors will be considered to play the role originated by Harrison Ford. Lucasfilm has time. The origin story about the scruffy-looking nerfherder isn't scheduled to start shooting until 2017. Star Wars invaded Disney's Hollywood Studios again as the Star Wars Launch Bay, Star Wars: Path of the Jedi and Star Tours: The Adventure Continues all made their debuts at the Florida park. But, is there as much excitement for these attractions as there was for their Anaheim counterparts? Star Wars Rebels is getting a third season on Disney XD. This is a series that has grown on me, with interesting character arcs and some great throwbacks to the old Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. Pixar's Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur dominated the nominations at the Annie Awards. It's a good thing too. Dinosaur needs all the help it can get. It took a nosedive at the box office over the weekend and could end up being Pixar's lowest grossing film ever. We're really excited about the new Photographs from the Walt Disney Archives website. There you can order fine art prints of historical photos of Walt and his many creations. Prices start at $59 for unframed 11 x 14 images and increase from there based on size and framing options. Are you single and ready to mingle with a fellow Disney fan? A new dating site, MouseMingle.com has launched and, well, it's a dating site. For Disney fans. Anthony will be happy to meet you there. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss
Amy and Bryan had a big weekend. First, they met up at Disneyland and discussed all of the offerings the park has for the new "Seasons of the Force." They went to the Star Wars Launch Bay, met Chewbacca, watched a short Star Wars movie in the Captain EO theatre, and totally owned Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours... Then, they went to the main event: THE press conference for The Force Awakens. You'll hear pretty much every big name involved in the movie talking about it in their own words: JJ Abrams, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong'o and Lawrence Kasdan take the first press conference. The second press conference was headed up by Harrison Ford and Kathleen Kennedy, and they were joined by newcomers John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, and Oscar Isaac. It's a packed show and you're not going to want to miss it. The DIS Unplugged - A Weekly Roundtable Discussion About All Things Disney World
12/01/15 - In this week's episode, UberBlack can now pick you up at Orlando International Airport, Great Wolf Lodge may be coming to the Walt Disney World area and we prepare to say goodbye to the Canadian lumberjack show at Epcot. Also, we discuss the grand opening of Star Wars Launch Bay, Path of the Jedi and Jedi Training Academy: Trials of the Temple.
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
The Season of the Force is coming to Disneyland November 16th and we have all the details in this week's episode of Inside The Mouse Castle. As excitement builds for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December and the January groundbreaking of Star Wars Land, the Star Wars Launch Bay will open in the old Innoventions building in Tomorrowland. There will be plenty to preview of the upcoming Star Wars films and eventually, we assume, the park expansion. Also in the Launch Bay will be the obligatory Star Wars character meet-and-greets. Next door, a new Space Mountain overlay, Hyperspace Mountain, will rocket guests through an X-wing Figher battle. Star Tours will get an upgrade as well, adding new show elements based on The Force Awakens. The Force is strong with today's show. Here's what else we have: The Star Wars Land expansion at Disneyland means extended ride closures during construction. Everything on the Rivers of America including the Mark Twain, Columbia and Tom Sawyer will be shut down for more than a year beginning January 11, 2016. Likewise Fantasmic! and the Disneyland Railroad. While much of the Internet is speculating on what the new train and river configurations will be when the dust settles and Star Wars emerges, Tim and Anthony offer their short-term take on what no train, no Big Thunder Trail and no Fantasmic! will do to crowd control. We don't think it will be pretty. Disneyland is extending its Diamond Celebration until September 2016, which means the resort will turn 61 while it's still turning 60. Websites that offer dining reservation services at Disney resorts (usually for a fee) are coming under fire by Disney. Disney Dining Buddy is the first site to suspend activity after receiving a "request" by the Mouse to stop. The Indiana Jones-referential Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar has opened at Walt Disney World's Disney Springs (no longer Downtown Disney). We want to go there. Garrett Hedlund (Sam Flynn in Tron: Legacy) says a Tron 3 film may not be dead on the grid after all. Maybe. Duffy the Disney Bear is bidding farewell to Epcot. This pleases us. Outside of Japan, he never was a thing. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.com
