One of the most iconic musicals of all time, Hello, Dolly!, has returned to the London Palladium, with Jerry Herman's unforgettable score including Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Before the Parade Passes By, It Only Takes a Moment and Hello, Dolly! It's a huge, no-expense-spared production, with a cast of 40, and the legendary Imelda Staunton as the witty and charming matchmaker Dolly Levi. Jenna Russell plays the millineress Irene Molloy. Jenna is well known for her TV roles in Call The Midwife and Eastenders, and many theatre roles, including Guys and Dolls, Merrily We Roll Along, and her Olivier award-winning turn as Dot in Sunday In The Park With George. Nuala McGovern speaks to Jenna about the revival of Hello, Dolly! and the show's message to new audiences. In February 2021, a coup returned Myanmar to military rule, overthrowing the democratically elected government. Under the regime, violence against civilians has escalated, with thousands jailed, tortured and killed – although the numbers are believed be much higher. At least three million people have been displaced. Just two weeks ago, a UN Report outlined the gendered impact of the coup: It found that military forces have committed widespread forms of sexual violence. However, despite the coup's devastating impact, women and girls are taking on key roles within the resistance movement. Also this month, there have been seperate news reports that women are being conscripted into the military. Nuala discusses the situation with Tin Htar Swe, the former head of The BBC's Burmese Service. Nine-year-old Ella Adoo-Kissi-Deborah was the first person in the world to have air pollution listed as a cause of death. She lived near the South Circular Road in Lewisham, South East London and died of a fatal asthma attack in 2013. Her mother, Rosamund, who has been campaigning since her daughters death, is now seeking is seeking an official apology from the government as her high court claim against them heads to trial. She explains why she wants an official apology from the government. Nuala also speaks to Sophie Howe who is the former First Generation Commissioner for Wales where she advised the government on policy around transport and climate change - she now does this for other countries. SAnnie Garthwaite's second novel, The King's Mother, tells the story of historical figure Cecily Neville, mother of Edward IV and Richard III. Annie believes Cecily's role in the Wars of the Roses has been hugely underestimated by historians and her novel places her firmly at the heart of the action. Essie Fox has written five historical novels and her most recent, The Fascination, is set in the world of Victorian theatres and travelling fairs. They join Nuala to discuss the challenge of writing the stories of women who have been overlooked by the history books.Presented by Nuala McGovern Producer: Louise Corley

James Lott Jr chats with Roslyn Kind about her new song, new video, her past and her sister Barbra StreisandBarbra Streisand's little sister, Roslyn Kind, has not been idle during the pandemic, producing and releasing songs such as “Save the Country,” “Light of Love,” “It Only Takes a Moment: Kiss He Now.” Now, just in time for Valentine's Day, Roslyn Kind has realized a dream of combining two hits, “Look of Love” and “The Island,” resulting in a medley that celebrates love in all its forms, while re-enforcing the beliefs that love can be found at any age. Roslyn is proud and excited to offer a very special 6 minute video short, in which she stars and served as producer.Possible bullet topics about the creation of “Look of Love” and “The Island”Link to full version of "Look of Love /The Island": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmRfaNMPe3M
She's still glowin', she's still crowin,' she's still goin' strong... That's right: we're continuing our deep dive into the career of the great Barbra Streisand with a look at the mid-60s Broadway classic, Jerry Herman's Hello Dolly! We talk about: Discernment: Dolly is a woman on a journey out of grief – and is looking for her sign. What kind of a theology of discernment does the show depend on? Gender: We take a close look at Horace's song about marriage, “It Takes A Woman” and dig a little bit underneath the surface of the show's fun to pull apart the class and economics of male-female relationships. Clothes: So much of Hello Dolly is about the clothes – the actual costumes the actors are wearing, and the show's deeper fixation on the performative nature of class, gender and race. Restraunts: What does it mean that Dolly comes back home where she belongs? Is this the show's resurrection moment? Moments: Falling in love, Kairos time, moments of divinity and resurrection and where they find us – in church, in the theatre, in the eyes of a beloved. You'll hear: The 1969 film soundtrack: La Streisand, Walter Matthau, Michael Crawford, Louis Armstrong and the full cast singing “Just Leave Everything To Me,” “It Takes a Woman,” “Ribbons Down My Back,” “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Elegance,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” “It Only Takes a Moment” and, of course, “Hello, Dolly!” Continue the conversation with us on Instagram and The Platform Formerly Known as Twitter (@gospelofmt).
Barbra Streisand's sister, Roslyn Kind, has been busy over the last few years producing and releasing songs such as "Save the Country," "Light of Love," and "It Only Takes a Moment: Kiss Me Now." Roslyn is a dynamic, multi-talented entertainer who has forged a successful career in all facets of entertainment, from critically acclaimed recordings to sold-out performances on Broadway and in top concert venues and nightclubs worldwide. She has frequently shared the stage with her sister, Barbra, and her nephew, Jason Gould. Most recently, Roslyn realized a dream of combining two hits, "Look of Love" and "The Island," resulting in a medley that celebrates love in all its forms while reinforcing the belief that love can be found at any age. Roslyn is proud and excited to offer a very special six-minute video short where she stars and serves as producer. The London Times noted, "To say she is superb would be an understatement." She began her performing career while still in her teens with the release of her first album, “Give Me You.” A whirlwind of performing activity followed, including engagements at the nation's top nightclubs, acclaim from Time Magazine, and three appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show leading up to her show-stopping New York debut at the Plaza Hotel's legendary Persian Room. Roslyn's extensive television credits include a humorously memorable turn as herself on CBS's “The Nanny.” This appearance also showcased her talent as a songwriter in a performance of her composition, “Light of Love.” She has appeared on virtually every major talk/variety show, including The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and Good Morning America. Roslyn also takes pride in her work for various animal welfare, Alzheimer's and AIDS-related charitable organizations, including HSUS, APLA and Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS, for which she contributed a song selection to Cabaret Noel, a volume in their annual series of holiday CD releases. Roslyn has recently become a proud member of the She Angels, women supporting women by awarding grants to grassroots, female-founded, non-profit organizations that provide mentorship, funding, and resources to a diverse portfolio of women's and girls' causes. The New York Post summed it up best: "She's so good on so many levels; it's difficult to categorize her. This elegant, beautiful, petite, dynamo delight rules the stage with a royal command that demands adoration from every seat in the house." A native of Brooklyn, New York, she currently resides in Los Angeles. An old acquaintance, an Australian bishop, has been quoting recently from a popular cartoonist and kind of pop philosopher "Down Under" named Mike Leunig. The bishop quoted an aphorism from Leunig in relation to his long-term hopes for the Anglican Church in Australia: "Nothing can be loved at speed". When I heard my old colleague quoting Mike Leunig, a 1975 disco hit by Tavares flashed instantly into my mind: "It Only Takes a Minute, Girl (To Fall in Love)". What this sudden flash told me was: It's not true -- it is not true that "nothing can be loved at speed". One's heart in fact always loves at speed. Almost every big decision you've ever made was made "at speed"! The heart moves no other way. The heart loves at speed. Incidentally, people rarely say this, at least where they could be heard. You don't want to be thought to believe that "It Only Takes a Minute, Girl". That sounds un-wise, un-"nuanced" -- the worst possible thing you could ever be regarded as being -- and imprudent. Nevertheless, it is the way life is. When you review your life, how many decisions you made were actually made in a flash, in a lightning-like "AHA" ('Take on Me') moment? Please tell me. You didn't choose the college you went to based on ... thoughtful ratiocination. You didn't choose the profession you chose based on... weighing all the pros and cons. You didn't marry the gal/guy you married on the basis of... thought. (Did you?) This cast is about inward (heartfelt) truth vs. outward (rationalizing) truth. When you are dying, I believe you will only know the former. LUV, PZ

This episode is a little bit different than our usual episodes in that it features two interviews with two very talented filmmakers - Matt Vesely who has directed a neat sci-fi thriller called Monolith, and Callan Durlik who has made a very funny romantic comedy called It Only Takes A Night. Monolith which follows a headstrong journalist, played by Lilly Sullivan, whose investigative podcast uncovers a strange artefact, an alien conspiracy, and the lies at the heart of her own story. It Only Takes a Night follows four best friends on a girl's night out who end up on a path none of them expected and find out it really does only take one night to change your life. These two interviews were originally recorded for my radio show on the Community Radio Network, so they're not as in depth as the usual Cinema Australia Podcast episodes, but there's still plenty covered for each film. Anyway… enjoy.
We all have recurring thoughts. Which thoughts are currently tattooed on your mind? Doug Dickerson shares how to tattoo your mind with positivity. Learn valuable takeaways such as guarding self-talk, making 1% daily improvements, believing in yourself, cultivating a growth mindset, and minding the influences you allow in your life. Get ready to tattoo your mind in a good way. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Guard your self-talk Make 1% improvement every day The importance of believing in yourself The power of ‘not yet' Cultivating a growth mindset Minding the influences you allow in your life [04:12] The Power of Positive Self-Talk Often, we unconsciously adopt beliefs and belief systems imposed on us by others. These beliefs stem from our personal stories, upbringing, and societal conditioning, and they can shape our thoughts and define our lives. Our thought patterns have a profound impact on our well-being and success. We must remain vigilant of our self-talk and the conversations we have with ourselves, as they shape our outlook on life. Negative thoughts can easily creep into our minds, but we have the power to control them. We need to cultivate positive self-talk, even when there isn't someone else to lift us up. We can choose to encourage ourselves with uplifting thoughts, empowering beliefs, and positive affirmations that propel us toward our goals. Regardless of the labels that society or others may place upon us, we have the power to define and shape our own lives through our self-talk. [10:39] 1% Daily Improvement Consistently making a 1% improvement every day has the potential to bring about life-changing results. This concept is highlighted in James Clear's book Atomic Habits, which emphasizes the significance of small, incremental progress. By changing one's mindset and committing to adding value to oneself and others through 1% improvement daily, we can greatly impact our lives and those around us over time. Additionally, an article was recently discovered, further exploring this topic. [22:05] The Power of Not Yet The idea of "not yet" is to shift the way we think about things we don't understand or haven't mastered yet. Rather than saying, "I just don't get it," we say, "I don't understand it yet." It's a small change, but it can make a huge difference. By acknowledging that we haven't grasped something yet, but we will eventually, we approach learning with a growth mindset. It's all about being positive and believing in our ability to learn. Even if we don't understand something today, we remind ourselves that we haven't learned it yet, but we will. It's a powerful way to keep ourselves motivated and driven to succeed. Notable quotes: [36:25] "You have to do what you have to do to preserve and protect that wellspring of life that's within you and preserve it for your family as well." [36:35] [04:48] "The thoughts that we entertain have a way of defining us." [04:55] [06:13] "We can tattoo our mind with positive thoughts” [06:25] Resources Mentioned: https://www.dougdickerson.net Leadership Lessons for Mr. Bates Atomic Habits by James Clear Download this week's free resource instantly when you sign up for The Good Mood Show newsletter here! We conclude ADHD Awareness Month with this VERY SPECIAL Episode in which some of our amazing listeners share what they want the world to know about ADHD. The theme for ADHD Awareness Month 2022 is ‘Understanding a Shared Experience', and we feel incredibly privileged to be able to use our platform to empower our listeners to share their ADHD experience with the world! Back in August we ran a campaign on our socials called ‘It Only Takes a Minute ADHDAF' in which we asked followers to share a one minute video or voicenote to volunteer their voices to raise awareness about ADHD. This is what it was for. As we always say, we are not therapists, experts or coaches, just two late diagnosed ADHD women sharing our personal experiences in the hope that they help others. In the last six months since launching we have been completely blown away by the impact ADHDAF has had. So we know the importance and value of opening up about the realities of living with the neurodevelopmental disorder. The ADHD online community has been such an enormous help to us both as we ride the late ADHD diagnosis rollercoaster. We are so grateful to have found so many like us, and to have had so many join our Leopard Print Army for ADHDAF Day on Friday 21st October. Together we thrive; and we believe that together we can incite systemic change! THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who took part in this very special episode, ADHDAF Day, who sent selfies to be a face of ADHDAF, and to all of our listeners, followers and guest speakers over the last 6 months. Barry O’Reilly is pleased to welcome Secil Tabli Watson, Executive Vice President for Digital Solutions for Business at Wells Fargo. In this week’s show, Barry chats with Secil about the techniques she uses to drive innovation in both retail and business banking environments. She shares the lessons she unlearned in the process and how to bring product management principles into a large organization in a way that drives innovation. First Lesson: Speak The Customer’s Language Secil’s first assignment as a digital channel manager 18 years ago was to make Wellsfargo.com into a buying site. She focused on language that was customer-focused, rather than the bank-centric. “We brought in the capabilities and the competency of doing user research and understanding customer tasks and understanding their behaviors and motivators and really putting that into the language,” she says. In addition, they transformed the architecture of the website so that it was more customer driven. [Listen from 1:55] Staff People to Outcomes Not Products If you’re struggling to move from project-based teams to outcome-based ones, Secil advises that you reframe how you think. This was a critical unlearning for her, she remarks. She shares an example of how she recast her thinking about a project from product to outcome, as a result of which her team was able to see themselves as responsible for a broader outcome, and partner with other departments to make it happen. She advises listeners to break the project into phases with quick wins, and gives insight into how to create cross-functional teams with as little awkwardness as possible. “If you ask a little bit at a time from people, they're more willing to help,” she points out. [Listen from 6:50] B2B Customer Relationships Are Deeper Businesses with B2B customers can develop deeper relationships with them. Because their B2B customers are fewer in number, Secil says, they are able to communicate on a more intimate level over a longer period of time. She asks her B2B customers, “How do you feel?” because it elicits deeper answers. “And I'm also then able to ask the question, Why?” Secil remarks. “I can ask the question as many times as I want to try to get down to a deeper meaning and a deeper need or a desire or a business problem that the customer may be having.” She and Barry discuss why co-creating with your customers - as counterintuitive as the idea appears - is their favored approach. “It builds more trust and actually derisks more of your relationship,” Barry comments. [Listen from 15:20] It Only Takes 10 “...it doesn't take more than 10 people to do things but you have to get the right 10 people,” Secil argues. Her job, as she sees it, is to figure out what to do differently so she can identify those 10 people quickly in her large organization environment. Barry comments that if more companies adopt this approach they would see greater success. [Listen from 29:35] OKRs are not for Compensation Secil and Barry agree that while measuring performance is important, performance metrics should not be tied to compensation, as pay for performance inhibits innovation. Secil believes that the team should win together and learn together; they should not compete against one another. “There is nothing more we could do to make a better team other than enable them to learn,” she says. [Listen from 36:00] Looking Ahead Secil is excited about the current trend to apply product management principles and skills in atypical areas, such as for thinking through outcomes and tactics for diversity and inclusion efforts. In case you're wondering, HELLO, DOLLY! is a musical about a woman and her favorite restaurant. In college, Will had to write a 40 page paper on HELLO, DOLLY! (that's musical theater college for ya) and he appeared as Ambrose in the recent revival with DAME Bette Midler. Will has been in three different professional productions of HELLO, DOLLY! so we thought it only right to have him back as the resident expert. We celebrate the magnificent Jerry Herman this week, the composer of HELLO, DOLLY!, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, MAME, among others, who we lost in December of 2019 at the age of 88. Our favs this week include It Only Takes a Moment, Before The Parade Passes By, and Gavin Creel's "OUT THERE... there's a world outside of Yonkers." After this week we know for sure... if we have to dig ditches for the rest of my life, we will be a ditch diggers who once had a wonderful day. COME ON BARNABY WE'RE GOING TO NEW YORK!!

It's awesome. Song sampled are; The Dumber they Come, The Better I Like ‘Em from the musical Kid Boots, Music by Harry Tierney and Lyrics by Joseph McCarthey, performed by Eddie Cantor. I know it's pretty sexist, I'm not endorsing the message of the song. Although dumb girls deserve love too so don't let me take that from you. Toot, Toot, Tootsie (Goo’bye) a song with music and lyrics by Gus Kahn, Ernie Erdman and Danny Russo from the Broadway musical Bombo performed by Al Jolson. Jolson performed minstrel acts and I'm not endorsing that either. I'm merely using him for illustrative purposes, history's a hateful place. Music from Steamboat Willie by Wilfred Jackson and Bert Lewis. The Broadway Melody - a song with lyrics by Arthur Freed and music by Nacio Herb Brown, these words are performed by Charles King. (I’m) Young and Healthy from 42nd Street, Music by Harry Warren, Lyrics by Al Dubin and performed by Dick Powell. No relation to the Gavin and Stacey character. Do you ever wonder if your light will burn bright enough to make a difference in this world? After all, the darkness of this world surrounds us. Sometimes it feels as if our candle will be snuffed out, and evil will prevail. However, we can choose to stay the course and shine brilliantly in our surroundings. Five Steps to Burn Bright in This World1. Remember Where the True Light OriginatedFor God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.2 Corinthians 4:6 (NLT)God brought light to our world at creation. However, wouldn't you agree the best source of brightness He ever gave us was through his son Jesus?2. It Only Takes a FlickerMaybe you want to shine for Jesus but feel as though it won’t be enough to make a difference. Please don’t underestimate how your light can change this world. It only takes a speck of light. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 (NIV)3. Don’t Overthink ItShine your light no matter how small or insignificant you think it might be. 4. Look for the LightWe must be willing to see the light to be the light. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. John 12:35 (NIV)5. Choose to Be the LightYou must choose to light the candle as we did in the dark room. Nevertheless, wanting to shine won’t be enough. You will have to make a choice and turn on the light. There are people all around us who are hurting and could use a little sparkle to shine into their world. Will you be that person?Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. When it comes to rules or advice for long-term marriage, I often seem to hear words like "covenant" and "promise-keeping". These conceptions of keeping faith with another person are laudatory and fine -- and even necessary to keep the love going. But "covenant" and "promise", excellent as they are in principle, are insufficient to give you the oomph, the power, to do the thing you both want so much to do. That is because if something comes along that you actually find you want more than the thing you "covenanted" to preserve, or "promised" to keep, the covenant and promise will go out of effect. Covenants and promises are susceptible to being superannuated in exactly one minute. "It Only Takes a Minute, Girl, To Fall in Love" (Tavares, 1975). How else could you explain the thousands, even the millions of sincere people who made a covenant or exchanged a promise which they then broke? It's not that they wanted to be untrue. It's just that something presented itself that felt superior to the prior thing. So the covenant got broken. This is why I major on romantic love as the key to a happy marriage. When romantic love is there, between two people, they don't need words of encouragement to stand by a prior agreement. They don't need one single pointer to a covenant. "(All I want to do is) Act Naturally" (Ringo/The Beatles, 1965). The one thing you can do to renew a relationship that's gotten stale or even repellent (God forbid) is go back, in your heart, mind and memory, to the point when the relationship was fresh, fantastic, and enthralling. And there was almost definitely a time when it was -- when it was fresh, fantastic, and enthralling. The magic was there. (Otherwise, why would you have come together in the first place?) Apply the incomparable insight of Meister Eckhart, by way of Gerald Heard: "If you can't find God, go back to where you lost Him." LUV U.
We've all heard in the past that it takes 21 days to bust a habit. It turns out that is a fable of the Internet that just kept getting repeated. Join the DietBet and Hurdle the Holidays Put in $20, and if you lose 4% of your weight when it starts (October 31, 2018) you get to share the pot with everyone who achieved their 4% goal (it's not as easy at sounds). For more information go to wwww.logicalloss.com/dietbet It Only Takes 21 Days to Create a Habit??? If you've ever heard that it only takes 21 days to develop a habit, it turns out that has been exaggerated, and misinterpreted by the Internet over the years (and if you repeat something over and lover long enough, people think it's true Now, however, there is some psychological research on this question in a paper recently published in the European Journal of Social Psychology. Phillippa Lally and colleagues from University College London recruited 96 people who were interested in forming a new habit such as eating a piece of fruit with lunch or doing a 15 minute run each day Lally et al. (2009). Participants were then asked daily how automatic their chosen behaviors felt. These questions included things like whether the behavior was ‘hard not to do’ and could be done ‘without thinking’. Although the average was 66 days, there was marked variation in how long habits took to form, anywhere from 18 days up to 254 days in the habits examined in this study. As you’d imagine, drinking a daily glass of water became automatic very quickly but doing 50 sit-ups before breakfast required more dedication (above, dotted lines). Missing a single day did not reduce the chance of forming a habit. A sub-group took much longer than the others to form their habits, perhaps suggesting some people are ‘habit-resistant’. Other types of habits may well take much longer. No small change What this study reveals is that when we want to develop a relatively simple habit like eating a piece of fruit each day or taking a 10-minute walk, it could take us over two months of daily repetitions before the behavior becomes a habit. And, while this research suggests that skipping single days isn’t detrimental in the long-term, it’s those early repetitions that give us the greatest boost in automaticity. " The Israelite people were a people committed to memory. They were committed to remembering the journey that they'd walked as a nation and as a people. They had wired into the rhythm of their year certain mile-markers that they'd cross that were reminders for them....to not forget the story. One of those mile-markers is called The Feast of Booths. It would happen around late fall, every year. The command came out of Leviticus 23:42-43. You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All native Israelites shall dwell in booths, that your generations may know that I made the people of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. Every year, an Israelite family would build a booth. It was a temporary structure, one that they would decorate with some of the fruits of Palestine. They would make these booths---they would call them tabernacles or, in Hebrew, Sukkot, which is the name of the festival or celebration. They would take them into the wilderness and they would camp for a week. And they would remember. Remember when we were enslaved in Egypt and God miraculously brought us out. Remember when He parted the Red Sea. Remember when we walked through on dry ground. Remember when He preserved us for forty years in the wilderness. Remember. Can you imagine being a little kid with your family, your parents and your grandparents, and building a booth and going and putting it in the wilderness, and sitting around the fire and recounting the stories? Telling of the faithfulness of God? When I was growing up, my family and I did a few camping trips, not too many. I can remember each of them. I can remember sitting around a fire outside of Lake Tahoe. My dad, with his guitar, taught us the song "It Only Takes a Spark to Get a Fire Going." I was wondering, at the time, why it was taking us so long to get OUR fire going, but that's a whole other story! I can remember it. You have to think of yourselves as....back in their shoes....they were so committed. These are going to be things that we pass down from generation to generation. These are going to be stories that we tell. We refuse---the nation of Israel said---we refuse to forget the faithfulness of God. Because there's going to be times that it could happen. There's going to be times when His provision in the desert seems like it's a really, really, really, long way off. There's going to be times when it feels like we're running out of water in the parched land. It's going to be these stories that preserve us....."
