With a number of limited or nonparticipants in the 49ers' first practice of the week, depth players once again will need to step up and fill their role. What's also familiar is San Francisco's opponent in the regular-season finale on Saturday at Levi's Stadium: Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks. On this episode of "49ers Talk," co-hosts Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan discuss how clutch San Francisco's depth has been this season, especially in prime-time games. Also, they detail the many playoff permutations that will swirl following Week 18's results, along with just how much defensive coordinator Robert Saleh trusts his players and if Deommodore Lenoir will get a chance to shadow one of the league's best receivers Saturday in Jaxon Smith-Njigba.--(2:00) 49ers face familiar foe in regular-season finale(4:00) Why 49ers' clutch gene in prime-time games plays to their advantage(8:00) Injury updates, which backups have been impressive this season(12:00) Playoff implications based on Week 18 results(18:00) Discussing Robert Saleh's trust in defense(21:00) Will Lenoir be asked to shadow JSN? The Rams lost to the Falcons last night and it did alter the path for the Seahawks as they can now only get the 1 or 5 seed in the NFC, the 6th is off the board, so thank you Atlanta! That means, the playoff path either runs through Seattle or starts in Tampa Bay or Carolina, which seems like a better option that Philly or Chicago! :30- Sam Darnold isn't playing as well as he did in the first half of the season and that's the bigger concern for Hugh Millen, not the turnovers. The offense was humming for awhile and the Darnold to JSN connection had everyone talking, but it's fallen off in the second half of the season. We don't need Darnold to carry the team to the Super Bowl on his back, but we do need him to play better to get there. :45- It's our final show of 2025- do we believe in New year's resolutions? Richard Sherman breaks down a huge Week 17 across the NFL — starting with the Seattle Seahawks’ dominant defensive win over the Carolina Panthers and standout performances from Zach Charbonnet, JSN, AJ Barner, and DeMarcus Lawrence. Sherm reacts to Sam Darnold’s turnovers, Seattle’s Pro Bowl surge, and what it means for the NFC playoff race. Sherman also explores the NFC South and AFC West chaos: Tampa Bay’s struggles, Baker Mayfield’s inconsistency, Denver’s Christmas Day win over the Chiefs, Bo Nix’s development, and the Texans’ elite defense led by Will Anderson, Danielle Hunter, and Derek Stingley. He also analyzes Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ surge, the Chargers’ offensive struggles, and the Colts’ season falling apart. Sherm recaps the Steelers’ heartbreaking loss to the Browns, Shadur Sanders’ development, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ concerns, and Drake Maye’s breakthrough performance for the Patriots. Plus: what went wrong with the Lions, Green Bay’s ups and downs, and what to expect heading into Week 18. NFL playoff picture, quarterback storylines, injuries, Pro Bowlers — Sherm hits every angle. All lines provided by Hard Rock Bet. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Did the Minnesota Vikings find a way to solve the NFL's Jaxon Smith-Njigba problem? Or were there a combination of factors that simply kept the ball from going JSN's way. We talk about some of the strategies Minnesota used -- from pressuring Sam to their use of linebacker and safety to send some extra attention toward the NFL's leading receiver. Ernest Jones earned NFL honors for his game on Saturday, but DeMarcus Lawrence should have been in consideration for two of the biggest plays of the game. The Atlanta Falcons are on deck for Seattle and may be the last "easy" game on the schedule. But should we ignore the fact they've either won or played their last four losses close? Bijan Robinson could pose a challenge for the Seahawks defense, but is there anyone else on the Falcons offense to be concerned with? Sam Darnold may have another week where he'll be challenged against the blitz, but we could also see more success on the ground than we saw against Minnesota. Seattle could continue to lean into the run game and protect the football. In the second half of the show, we take a look at aggregate power rankings for all NFL teams and the Seahawks find themselves in the top 5 across most of the rankings. We take a look at some of the other teams and which one could be best to challenge the Rams (apart from Seattle). The NFL Hall of Fame selection committee needs to do better and so does society (apparently). Better at life honors go to an NBA coach for having the back of some arena staff members and to one state's wildlife conservation commission for their fight against invasive snakes. RUNDOWN We're celebrating the start of Year 8 of Mitch Unfiltered! Mitch checks in from Las Vegas—oddly with zero urge to gamble—while Hotshot breaks down his old roulette system and the painful bad beat that once drove him out of Vegas for years. Mitch and Hotshot geek out over the new Eddie Murphy documentary, then Mitch tells his favorite 10-seconds-of-fame story — yelling a deep-cut sketch line to Murphy at a 1985 stand-up show and getting singled out from the stage. They pivot to the Seahawks' 30–24 "no-win" win in Nashville, weighing how worried to be about letting a 30–10 lead shrink, while marveling at Jaxon Smith-Njigba's obscene pace (already breaking the single-season franchise yardage mark in 11 games) and explaining why Rams-Bucs, common opponents, and divisional records mean Seattle may need both a win over the 49ers and help from the lowly Cardinals to take the NFC West. Steve Phillips joins Mitch to unpack Seattle's near–World Series run — from Julio Rodríguez's late-season surge to the Game 7 choices that doomed the Mariners, including pulling George Kirby too early and avoiding Andrés Muñoz in the highest-leverage spot. He explains why modern analytics can mislead managers, why Aaron Judge rightfully edged Cal Raleigh for MVP despite East Coast conspiracy theories, and why extending Josh Naylor was the right call even if the back-end years sting. Brady and Jacson join Mitch to break down Seattle's 30–24 win over the Titans — a game that was far closer than it should've been against the NFL's worst roster. They dissect the defensive lapses (two long late TD drives, missed tackles, fatigue), Sam Darnold's clean but risky performance (a couple near-picks, heavy JSN dependence), and a quietly emerging run game anchored by Walker and Charbonnet. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to reset the entire college football landscape heading into rivalry week — from Washington's shot at a season-defining upset over Oregon to the seismic consequences of an eight-win finish versus nine. He breaks down the transfer-portal era attrition at programs like UCLA, the SEC's multi-team playoff math (with Alabama's "brand advantage"), and why chaos in Austin, Baton Rouge, and Oxford could reshape the playoff bracket if Lane Kiffin jumps jobs before December 3rd. Brock and Salk discuss whether or not the Seahawks truly were able to prove anything long term about their big picture by beating a one-win Titans team. They then talk about JSN's dominance this season and the impact that tarding away DK Metcalf has had on him. In Blue 88, topics include two JSN stats that are ridiculous, what Jedd Fisch is doing more of lately at UW and yet another way in which Mike Macdonald backs up his words with actions.

The Seahawks coasted to victory over the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, getting the 30-24 win off another standout performance by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. With six games remaining in the season, JSN has already set a franchise record with 1,313 receiving yards. His two touchdowns helped keep Seattle out ahead of the Titans and in control of the game all afternoon. Ken Walker provided another significant contribution with more than 100 yards of offense and some explosive plays in both the passing and run game. The defense tallied four sacks as Cam Ward was under significant pressure and they managed to help keep the Titans in the game through his resilience and some impressive throws. On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett and Jim Moore, the Go-2-Guy start off the show with high praise for Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Grey Zabel. Puck wants BOTH to immediately be inducted into the Seahawks Ring of Honor! The Seahawks were supposed to have a “get right” game but it sure didn't look that way against the Titans. Puck and Jim also touched in on Cam Ward's performance, ESPN's wet dream of having the Cowboys win and Shedder Sanders and why does everyone think that Justin Wilcox is such a great coach??Puck heads back to the Seahawks for the “Dugar Report” with Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. Mike is at Sea-Tac and he and Puck discuss JSN's game and what makes him so good and so appreciated by his teammates. Sam Darnold struggled against the Titans, should Seahawks fans be worried. They gush about Grey Zabel and the mentality that he plays with and why defensive coordinators haven't figured out JSN?“On This Day…” Wilt Chamberlain, and we lose two prominent entertainers from the movie industry and television. Puck wraps up with, “Hey, what the Puck!?” The beauty of high school sports and playing with your buddies. Another loaded show on this Monday reacting to the busy weekend of action. The Titans fought hard but fell short to Seattle, 30-24. QB Cam Ward showed some signs of improvement. How encouraged should fans be? Rookie WR Chim Dike had another punt return for a TD along with a receiving TD. Xavier Restrepo made his debut with two catches. The defense has been playing better, but JSN was able to put up some numbers for Seattle. We take your phones.
