No offense in the NFL was humming quite like these Cincinnati Bengals by December, but it didn't matter. The defense was an utter horror show. We're long overdue to take a look at this club at Go Long, so let's welcome on exceptional reporter Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic and “The Growler” Podcast. Always good catching up with Paul. We put on the gloves and closely examine the cadaver that was the 2024 Bengals Defense — what in the hell happened? Also, kudos to our recurring guest. An hour after explaining why trading Trey Hendrickson is the best play for Cincinnati, multiple outlets reported that the All Pro defensive end was given permission to seek a trade.New DC Al Golden has his work cut out for him. Can he get more out of young players such as defensive end Myles Murphy? (Readers may recall this jarring piece from Bob McGinn in his draft series.) An extreme youth movement is a must. The good news? On offense, the Bengals can realistically lock up Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins long term. Loved this conversation.Listen/Watch right here at Go Long, as well as on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, everywhere you pod. Also:, be sure to rate, review and share. One programming note. On Friday AM at GoLongTD.com, I'll also have a feature on the mastermind central to everything on offense in Cincinnati: Dan Pitcher. What a rise. Thanks, all. This is a public episode. Watch Off the Bench Presented by UDF with Chatterbox Sports Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. LIVE on the Chatterbox Sports YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE to the channel to ensure you never miss a thing. Starters Sheldon Rankins and B.J. Hill have both played up to expectation since returning from their hamstring injuries, and key rotational pieces Myles Murphy and McKinnley Jackson are also looking the part since coming off the Reserve/Injured list. The position group is finally in a good place, but it wouldn't take much for them to be even better. This is where a rare Bengals trade could really come in handy, and an obvious target for them is actually someone they've already faced this season. Bengals trading for New York Giants edge defender Azeez Ojulari makes too much sense The Bengals have always valued players who perform well against them, and no one has had a better game rushing quarterback Joe Burrow this year than Ojulari. The former second-round pick tallied six pressures and two sacks during Cincinnati's Week 6 victory over New York. Ojulari has stepped into a larger role for the Giants recently with Kayvon Thibodeaux out with a wrist injury, but even with Thibodeaux now on I.R., the now 2-5 Giants would be smart to start looking towards the future and gaining draft capital where they can. Ojulari is in the last year of his rookie contract and won't be a starter once Thibodeaux returns, which makes him an ideal trade candidate for a selling team. "A former second round draft pick, Ojulari will be hitting free agency in 2025. He's played in 42.9% of the team's defensive snaps and with Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux on the team, it seems like he won't be getting a promotion anytime soon. Ojulari's career has been impacted by injuries, missing significant playing time in 2022 and 2023 but he did set the Giants' rookie sack record with eight back in 2021. The upside is still there." - A to Z Sports' Mauricio Rodriguez The Bengals themselves witnessed said upside against both of their best offensive linemen. Tackles Orlando Brown Jr. and Amarius Mims have been studs this year, and Ojulari was still able to get home off the edge. Ojulari would immediately be one of the Bengals' three best pass rushers off the edge and would be an ideal complement to Trey Hendrickson. Joseph Ossai is also on an expiring rookie contract, and both Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard are facing uncertain futures after this season as well. The Bengals could get a great second half of the season out of Ojulari for the price of a low draft pick and maybe even reward him after the season. This also wouldn't be the first time the Bengals have traded for a Giants' defensive lineman. They acquired Hill back in 2021 for the price of Billy Price. Hill has been everything the Bengals wanted him to be, and they've no reason not to like Ojulari's game as well.

That's the biggest part of the 2024 Cincinnati Bengals. Now can he stay healthy, because when he's healthy the Bengals have proven they can beat anyone in the league. They'll need to find a new answer at running back with Joe Mixon moving on to the Houston Texans. The Bengals brought in veteran Zach Moss and also have second year running back Chase Brown. The team addressed some pass catching options taking rookie's Jermaine Burton at wide receiver and two tight ends in Erik All and Tanner McLahlan after losing Tyler Boyd and with the uncertainty of Tee Higgins's future. Higgins received the non-exclusive franchise tag which will pay him around 21.8 million for 2024. The team and Higgins were unable to reach a deal by the July 15th deadline so Higgins will play on this deal. All signs point to Higgins planning to be with the team for the season. Defensive tackle Trey Hendrickson threatened retirement if he's not traded. Sam Hubbard is already a solid veteran backup, and the team spent their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on Myles Murphy. They also added defensive tackle Kris Jenkins of Michigan early in this year's Draft.Podcast Timecodes0:00 Intro5:50 2023 Cincinnati Bengals Recap10:00 Offseason Roster Moves15:45 Justin Wood Joins the Show21:20 Cincinnati Bengals Schedule Breakdown32:40 Cincinnati Bengals Best Bets JOIN the SGPN community #DegensOnlyExclusive Merch, Contests and Bonus Episodes ONLY on Patreon - https://sg.pn/patreonDiscuss with fellow degens on Discord - https://sg.pn/discordDownload The Free SGPN App - https://sgpn.appCheck out the Sports Gambling Podcast on YouTube - https://sg.pn/YouTubeCheck out our website - http://sportsgamblingpodcast.comSUPPORT us by supporting our partnersPromo code FOOTBALL - 10% off everything http://sg.pn/storeUnderdog Fantasy code SGPN - Up to $1000 in BONUS CASH - https://play.underdogfantasy.com/p-sgpnFootball Contest Proxy - Use promo code SGP to save $50 at - http://proxy.footballcontest.comRithmm - Player Props and Picks - Free 7 day trial! http://sportsgamblingpodcast.com/rithmmGametime code SGPN - Download the Gametime app, create an account, and use code SGPN for $20 off your first purchase - https://gametime.co/OddsJam - 7-day free trial and 35% off your first month subscription promo code SGPN - https://fas.st/t/yaJkJgH132 NFL Team Previews - https://www.sportsgamblingpodcast.com/2024-nfl-team-previews/ ADVERTISE with SGPNInterested in advertising? Dave Lapham joins Dave Berk to discuss Day Two of the Cincinnati Bengals training camp on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics. Lap dives into the second day of camp that saw star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase continue to sit out of practice with Tee Higgins joining him. With neither player participating in practice, the door was opened for others to step forward with valuable reps. Who caught my eye? Chase and Higgins were not the only players not taking reps; defensive end Trey Hendrickson was also limited on Day Two, opening important reps for Joseph Ossai and Myles Murphy. We also look at battles in the secondary, Chase Brown's performance catching the ball out of the backfield, and the Bengals' offensive line's impressing early in camp. Are you ready for Cincinnati Bengals football? You can take advantage of all episodes of In The Trenches with Dave Lapham.
Paul and Mark close out the dead period discussing the Bengals Ring of Honor selections, Corey Dillon and Tim Krumrie. Then, they answer questions about Myles Murphy potentially becoming a real guy, Joe Burrow's new haircut, most interesting positions of training camp, Bengals as Graeter's flavors and explaining to your children the lack of trustworthiness in church festival carneys.
