Big Sal from Peshtigo is in the recliner, meatball sandwich in hand, and he is FIRED UP. ESPN Milwaukee and ESPN Madison — the hometown guys, the cheese curd crowd — are calling the Lukas Van Ness fifth-year option a bust move. Thirteen point eight million dollars guaranteed, and they're calling it stupid. Sal is here to tell them exactly how wrong they are, receipts in hand, like a man returning a busted toaster oven. Van Ness posted 23 pressures in a half season on a busted foot — a career high — and ten pressures in his final three games. That's not a bust. That's Hercules warming up. The market context is damning for the critics: Kingsley Enagbare just got TEN million for ONE year from the Jets. Van Ness at thirteen point eight for two years is a bargain by comparison. With Rashan Gary traded to Dallas, Kingsley gone, and Micah Parsons rehabbing a torn ACL, the Packers needed Van Ness. The runway is finally clear — and Gutey made sure it wasn't empty. Green Bay Press-Gazette's Pete Dougherty joins Wisconsin Sports Daily to break down the Packers picking up the 5th-year option of Lukas Van Ness. Pete dives into Rookie Minicamp starting up for the Packers.
Friday is finally here and the warmer temps are on the way this weekend. Back into the 70's on Sunday! In the news this morning, a $2 million-winning Powerball ticket was recently sold in Sparta, a recall on certain Thermos containers, Britney Spears gets charged for driving under the influence, an update on Ving Rhames…who collapsed at a restaurant yesterday…and a list of which states allow you to get an "ASSMAN" license plate. In sports, the Brewers destroyed the D-Backs to take two out of three from Arizona, a look at last night's NBA & NHL playoff action and a peek at tonight's schedule, the latest on the LIV Golf league, and Lukas Van Ness gets his fifth-year option picked up by the Packers. We talked about what's on the boob-tube this weekend and what's new on the big screen this weekend. Plus, another TV star from the 90's is revealing how much money she makes on residuals from her hit show. Elsewhere in sports, a wild story is developing around the death of NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, and with the Kentucky Derby tomorrow, we looked at how they name the horses…and ran down a list of some of the most interesting names in Derby history. Speaking of lists…today is May 1st, so we hooked you up with a list of things to look forward in the next month…including what's going to be in theaters, new TV shows, major sporting events, and the holidays! Doc joined us to talk NASCAR racing just after 8am thanks to County Materials in Holmen & Eau Claire. We also got an update on Ed Bambas…the guy who was working full-time at a grocery store after retiring from his GM job. Plus, a new "Karen of the Day"! And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a stolen fire truck, a JP Morgan executive who is accused of sexually abusing a male subordinate, a popular streamer gets run over by a car while walking across the country, and a former Chick-Fil-A employee in Texas allegedly stole $80,000 by faking mac-n-cheese orders!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Packers' defensive rebuild under Jonathan Gannon starts with getting the right types of players — not just the best available names. In this deep-dive episode, Ryan breaks down Green Bay's most pressing defensive draft needs and why scheme fit changes everything about how you evaluate this class. Corner is the #1 need — and it's not just a talent problem. Ryan explains why Gannon's cover-four pattern-match scheme demands big, physical, long-armed boundary corners who can win on an island — and why the current roster, headlined by Keyshawn Nixon, is almost a schematic mismatch from top to bottom. Prospects Tacario Davis (Washington) and Dalen Everett (Georgia) get detailed breakdowns with RAS scores, arm length, athleticism profiles, and scheme fit analysis. Nose tackle is a bigger priority than you think — Ryan makes the case that Gannon's interior expectations go well beyond "find a big body." Ball recognition, gap discipline, and pocket collapse ability narrow the viable options fast — and most of the good ones will be gone by pick 52. Caden McDonald and Bryson Eason are spotlighted as prospects worth tracking. Edge is on the horizon — with Lukas Van Ness and Baron Sorrell holding down the fort while Parsons recovers, Ryan teases a full edge rusher breakdown coming next episode. Drop your corner and DT takes in the comments and check the community big board at nfldraftgrades.com. Big Sal from Peshtigo has been sitting on this one since October — and he is done waiting. Rashan Gary is gone, the farewell graphic was apparently the work of a very thoughtful hacker, and Sal has the receipts on one of the great statistical magic tricks in recent Packers history. Gary led the entire NFL in sacks after Week 7 — then recorded ZERO sacks and ZERO tackles for loss from Week 8 through the end of the playoffs. Three hundred and thirty-seven players outproduced him down the stretch. Sal breaks down exactly why those first seven weeks happened: Micah Parsons was drawing every double team in America, handing Gary clean one-on-ones all day. That's not a breakout. That's arithmetic. This isn't the first time — Gary ran the exact same hot-start, cold-finish pattern in 2023, and Gutekunst signed the $96 million extension anyway. Now the Packers move on with Lukas Van Ness — two career starts — as the next man up. The cap space is real. The pass rush is still a question. Subscribe, leave a review, and tell a friend. Tell them to watch the whole season. Not just the first seven weeks. LET'S GO PACK. This episode is brought to you by PrizePicks! Packers edge rusher Lukas Van Ness may never be a super star but he's shown he can be a high level starter if he can stay on the field.
Looking at Super Bowl LX, there's an undeniable Packers flavor between Seahawks general manager John Schneider and Patriots general manager Eliot Wolf -- both of whom spent more than a decade in the organization. Also, at least one "What could have been?" Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the NFL in receiving yards this season, and will likely be named Offensive Player of the Year. Back in April 2023, the Packers had a chance to draft "JSN," but instead, they picked edge rusher Lukas Van Ness with the 13th pick, and JSN fell to No. 20 to the Seahawks. Of course, if the Packers could have a "mulligan," perhaps they would have taken Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez over both of them ... considering their current situation at cornerback. The Packers just made a massive move that flew under the radar, and it could change everything on defense. Ryan breaks down the hiring of former Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich as the new pass game coordinator and secondary coach under Jonathan Gannon. This isn't just another coaching hire—it's potentially the most overqualified defensive staff in NFL history, with multiple former defensive coordinators now working together in Green Bay. Ryan digs into Babich's coaching philosophy, his "SFP" mantra of simple, fast, and physical football, and how his approach to teaching simplicity could perfectly complement Gannon's complex schemes. Plus, learn why the Packers' shift toward more dime packages and three-safety looks could finally give pass rushers like Micah Parsons and Lukas Van Ness the extra half-second they need to wreak havoc. Also covered: the Browns hire Todd Monken, Bill Belichick's inexplicable Hall of Fame snub, Shrine Bowl standouts including potential Packers targets Brian Parker and Darrell Jackson Jr., and the latest NFL draft rumors heading into Senior Bowl week. Packers Total Access : BREAKING! Lukas Van Ness Returns To Practice! + Jayden Reed & Matthew Golden Updates
The Packers head to Arizona to face the Cardinals, but all eyes are on the injury report, especially Zach Tom. We dive into how Green Bay's handling of Tom's injury could derail the season, what the offensive line shuffle means for Jordan Love, and how the Packers can attack the Cardinals' quarters-heavy defense. Plus without Christian Watson, Lukas Van Ness, and Devonte Wyatt and what that means for the Packers on Sunday.
Are the Packers too conservative? Does anyone get held more than Micah Parsons? If Dale cusses on a solo episode is he cussing at himself or with himself? Dale flies solo and talks Lukas Van Ness, Jordan Love, and Josh Jacobs in episode 220. Go pack go!!
The Packers took down the Bengals 27-18 at Lambeau, but it wasn't always pretty. We break down Sunday's win, from Jordan Morgan's first start at right guard and the offensive line's encouraging process, to Josh Jacobs' gritty 5.2 yards per carry despite puking throughout the day. We dive into Jordan Love's risky interception, the defense's lack of turnovers, and why Edgerrin Cooper's pass rush role must evolve. Plus, injury updates on Lukas Van Ness, Dontayvion Wicks, and Javon Bullard. And the one position the Packers should target before the trade deadline, with potential fits like Calais Campbell and Maliek Collins.
Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness is starting to show signs of reaching the potential the team saw in him when they selected him 13th overall in the 2023 draft.

On today's episode before we breakdown the final preseason game we discuss:-Both Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave have had very impressive offenses and I think they both will be a big part of our offense in 2025, and they should be because the way teams design their defenses today.-Some of these same reasons of why 12 personnel is so important to a teams success are the same reasons why the Packers should NOT trade for an elite edge rusher like Micah Parsons, it's just too risky, even if it could work. -And we might not need an elite edge rusher because Lukas Can Ness seems to have taken a big jump and there are still two affordable difference making players available in free agency to help take this pass rush over the top.
In today's podcast I break down day 6 of Packers training camp: - Jordan Love and Matthew Golden connecting on 60 yd TD - Lukas Van Ness consistently making plays (breakout coming?) - LaFleur upset at Rasheed Walker and makes him take a lap
