Missed opportunity from the jump, defense disappoints early but redeems late, offense out of sync, penalty & discipline meltdown, special teams nightmare and more! The final mood? Frustration, disappointment, and disbelief. Texas let one slip away—again. But with the Red River Rivalry up next, Sark and the Horns have to regroup fast or risk the season spiraling.

Rod Babers and Jeff Howe broke down one of the most fascinating storylines of Texas' season—the rise of 12 personnel (one back, two tight ends) in Steve Sarkisian's offense—and why it could be a game-changer against Florida. Historic Usage: Against San Jose State, Texas unleashed its most impressive 12 personnel package in years—five tight ends played, four were targeted, and the Horns averaged 22 yards per attempt and 12 yards per play out of that grouping. Then, versus Sam Houston State, Texas lined up in 12 personnel over 60% of the time, the highest of Sark's tenure. Why It Works Now: Injuries at RB and WR forced Sark to lean into his tight end depth. With guys like Jordan Washington and Jack Endries, Texas can block, stretch the field, and attack seams against two-high safety shells that are so common in today's defenses. As Rod put it: Sark weaponizes surpluses—if he's loaded at a position, he'll maximize it. NFL Inspiration: The trend mirrors the NFL, where 12 personnel usage is at its highest since 2007. Sark's shift could be partly necessity, partly evolution, and partly inspired by pro football strategy—forcing defenses into tough choices between base sets (vulnerable to pass) or nickel/dime (vulnerable to run). Run Game Reality Check: Texas' run defense is elite (No. 1 in SEC in rush yards allowed, five straight opponents under 100 yards, including Ohio State twice). But the Longhorns' own run game lacks explosiveness—just three 20+ yard runs all year, and none by RBs. Florida's run game is somehow even worse (No. 106 nationally), despite returning O-line talent. The Gators' guards and tackles have some of the worst blown block percentages in the SEC, crippling their consistency. The QB Factor: Florida QB DJ Lagway has been a disaster from clean pockets—five INTs, bottom-10 nationally in turnover-worthy plays. Teams sit back in coverage, dare him to read defenses, and he hasn't delivered. Jeff Howe called him “a way more fascinating story than Arch Manning” this year because of his struggles. Key Matchup Saturday: Both Texas and Florida can stop the run. Neither has been explosive on the ground. The game could hinge on which team finds that one or two big rushing plays that change field position and scoring opportunities. Rod and Jeff wrapped by highlighting that Texas' evolution into a “hybrid spread with power tight end sets” might be exactly what Sark envisioned years ago—and the Florida game is a perfect test of whether it's just necessity…or the future of Texas football.

Emmett Mosley's Debut? Sark was coy, but all signs point to the freshman WR making his Texas debut. His perimeter blocking and length could be a huge asset, especially paired with Ryan Wingo and Parker Livingstone. Offensive Explosives via Screens: Sark emphasized the value of perimeter blocking and WR screens. Against Sam Houston State, two screens went for 65 yards—“free money,” as Jeff called it. With Mosley in the mix, Texas can bait DBs to creep up, then strike deep with Arch Manning's elite deep ball. Remember: the 83-yard screen-and-go to Livingstone earlier this year is the blueprint. Weather in Gainesville: Forecast calls for rain and wind. Sark said Texas preps weekly with “wet ball” drills—QBs, RBs, and WRs practice with soaked footballs. Wind, though, is the X-factor—field position, kickoffs, and field goals could all be impacted. Expect more 4th-down aggression if conditions hurt kicking odds. Special Teams Update: Kicker Will Stone returns for kickoffs, meaning Mason Shipley won't have to double up. That frees Shipley to focus purely on FG accuracy—critical in a weather-affected, low-scoring slugfest. RB Situation: C.J. Baxter is doubtful. Tre Wisner should be back, but not for 30 carries. Enter Jerrick Gibson, who's back home in Gainesville. Sark praised him as a short-yardage hammer, but he'll need to protect the ball after learning lessons from earlier fumbles. Christian Clark may also see touches. Sark's Bigger Picture Philosophy: Asked about the grind of SEC play, Sark made headlines saying: “People have to wrap their heads around nine and three being a good season in college football right now.” He doesn't expect anyone to run the SEC table—what matters is getting into the playoff tournament, however you have to. Bottom Line: Texas isn't chasing style points in Gainesville. With a hostile crowd, tough weather, and SEC athletes on the other sideline, Sark's golden rule applies: never, ever apologize for winning a road game in the SEC. Just get out with the W.

With his first season at Texas about to tip off, Miller laid out his philosophy, roster insights, and expectations for the journey ahead. Building the Foundation: Miller stressed the importance of pace, detail, and defense. His offense will emphasize fast execution—not just quick shots—while the defense starts with a strong man-to-man foundation. The key this season? Don't try to do everything at once—get really good at the essentials first. Analytics Meets Instinct: Miller explained how modern analytics help him identify the best lineups, balance offense and defense, and “fix leaks” when certain combinations don't work. But he still leans on instinct and proven coaching principles to guide decisions. The SEC Challenge: Miller called the SEC “the best conference in college basketball”—loaded with athleticism, physicality, and elite coaching. He compared it to the old Big East but with more speed and defensive playmakers. Scheduling & Growth: Balance is everything. Facing Duke, Maui's gauntlet, and true road games will harden the team, but Miller said November and December aren't the measuring stick. His goal is for Texas to peak in February and March when it matters most. The interview wrapped with Miller's vision: this year is about building steadily, maximizing depth, and molding a team that fans will love to watch because the whole will be greater than the sum of its parts. Season tips off November 4th vs. Duke—and the Miller era begins!
