Editor's Note: This episode is sponsored by Pendo. Change is hard when it's not predictable. But replacing or adding to a worker's business applications can also be a comfortable experience when the organization provides adequate preparation and support. Our guests on this episode, Hannah Whiteside and John Dorrian of Pendo, discuss some of the ways in which change management is impacting technology adoption today. We discuss some of the typical symptoms of a failed software deployment, including ways to prevent them. And our guests share their views on the different kinds of change management that organizations must contend with, whether human, systems-driven, or even compliance-driven. And we frame some of those challenges in the context of Microsoft's business software offerings. As Hannah and John explain, apps like Microsoft Power Apps and Teams pose their own unique challenges and patterns of adoption. Show Notes: 2:00 - How to position the role of organizational change management in today's business applications landscape 4:45 - The risk of too many tools, both official and rogue acquisition 8:45 - How to look at adopting Microsoft's commercial software from a change management perspective 11:45 - The danger of gut feeling vs data-driven decisions with organizational change 15:00 - Is Power Platform's flexibility an added challenge for adoption principles? 19:15 - How to measure for process efficiency according to app usage 22:30 - How to gently guide users away from their legacy systems with user-driven analytics 28:15 - The role of system integrators in advising on app usage and adoption 30:00 - How one Power Platform champion's team and dev group is changing from gut feel to data-driven evaluation of apps 32:00 - Why discovery work ought to become a thing of the past in service engagements 35:30 - Where compliance needs fit into Pendo's story 39:30 - Other scenarios in which change management becomes critical, like M&A For more information on how to overcome user adoption challenges on your employee-facing applications, https://pendo.io/digital-adoption. She's a confessed nutrition geek. Meet Hannah Wilson and you instantly want to absorb some of the information she has gathered and processed to apply to food and people. As a child she watched her dad as he wrestled with Type II Diabetes and she herself struggled with eating disorders, but she knew in Jr. High School that she wanted to help people and to do that on the platform of nutrition. We talk about how you meet people where they are and the aspects of nutritional eating to be healthy and find something sustainable. We talk about the tendencies of type A personalities and how difficult that can make the process of caring for your body in a kind way. She's headed to Minnesota to teach graduates and undergraduates in the field of nutrition— this inspires and makes Hannah excited to help students figure out their pathway in the field so close to her heart. There's a blend of old school and new thought that she is ready to approach. Her leadership style is to listen to the room, gather input and meet the challenges. Have you ever thought about how our understanding of nutrition has changed? There is a trend toward the anti-diet movement and coping with the constant threat of not enjoying life and having an unhealthy approach to food. The fad diets are not new, nor are the “deprive thyself” for a while approaches. Hannah is interested in how health can be achieved while weight loss and nutrition work together. As Hannah is watching research and how dietitians address the changes of being traditionally trained to the ideas that weight matters BUT there may be other factors that are beneficial and incorporate a balanced approach to realistic diet changes. Her goal is to be a part of that bridge to bringing balance. The biggest love for Hannah outside of her work is for dogs and the connection she gets with them. You also might spot Hannah skydiving when she finds time and money…that's her daring side. We talk about what confidence levels she has as a foundation to work hard and enjoy life to the fullest. With a strong work ethic, she sees a spring board into being independent and finding healthy relationships with food and with people. Sky diving, getting her PHD and moving across the country come naturally as opportunities because she embraces a confidence to achieve. This podcast is a fabulous conversation that gives chance to talk to a young professional who came through the homeschool movement and landed in upper academics. Hannah's perspective is that she is able to figure out what she wants and needs as she digs into her career choice of study. She was prepared as she waded through the waters of undergraduate and graduate programs. Being a young adult is hard and Hannah discusses some of the loneliness and being true to herself. Working through being by yourself can take you back to the roots and foundation set early on — Hannah leans into her faith and believes in the plan that changes can ultimately make you recognize who you are as your own person. A key topic that Hannah talks of is that of perfectionism and how she deals with it a situation at a time and how she works through that a bit. Tune in!
Animal Farm by George Orwell, published in 1945, depicts an allegorical fairy tale of the Russian Revolution and Stalin's era of rule. As Hannah and Jon continue reading and finish the book, they explore the allegory further, while also comparing this story with other historical events.Grab your tissues, because this episode gets sad. Hannah and Jon finish out this novella by dissecting and covering the last four chapters (6-10). Hannah brings up the great 'Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girl boss' of the character Squealer. They round out the story by discussing The Seven Commandments of Animal Farm, how these change, what it ultimately gets boiled down too, and how this is interpreted for our everyday life.Hannah and Jon do know how to properly format a novel title. Laura Dave joins Carol Fitzgerald to talk about her first domestic suspense novel, The Last Thing He Told Me, which was an instant #1 New York Times bestseller, and is a Reese Witherspoon Book Pick and a Bookreporter Bets On selection. The idea for this book is one that Laura had for a while; she started writing notes for it back in 2012, even as she was writing other books. This includes Eight Hundred Grapes, which Carol jokes that she thinks of whenever she opens a bottle of wine. In The Last Thing He Told Me, Hannah Hall learns that her husband of one year has disappeared. Before he goes missing, he's able to get a note to her that reads, "Protect her." Hannah knows that he wants her to protect his daughter Bailey, her stepdaughter who wants nothing to do with her. As Hannah attempts to find Owen, she realizes that her husband isn't who he said he is. Hannah and Bailey must team up and go on the road to uncover what he was really up to, learning about each other along the way. In addition to discussing her inspiration for the book, Laura talks about the screenplay that she and her husband are writing to adapt. This is an adaptation of Hello Sunshine for Apple TV, which will star Julia Roberts. And they also talk about their mutual love of cooking! Hannah and I have evidently been wrestling with the same question for some time. The essence of our question is this; rather than merely being concierges for the rich and powerful in their pursuit of personal philanthropic interests, how can we play a more radical role in the redistribution of money? And, what if by changing the rules of how the game is played, could we recruit a radically diverse and extraordinarily powerful new generation of fundraising leaders who want to write an entirely new playbook on how fundraising really works? As Hannah pointed out, fundraising professionals are powerful communicators and they have the know-how for building meaningful relationships. However, they sometimes overlook the inherent power that comes with being in such influential roles. What I appreciated about this conversation was Hannah’s willingness to apply NYU professor John Jost’s Theory of System Justification to our thinking. Jost’s research demonstrates that those who are most negatively impacted by a system are also those most inclined to defend it. As always, we are grateful to our friends at Cueback for sponsoring The Fundraising Talent Podcast. And, if you’d like to learn more about partnering with Responsive Fundraising, let’s coordinate a call.

Bible Reading: Matthew 19:3-6Grace gasped as her older sister came into the room. "Oh, Hannah! Your wedding dress is so beautiful! You look like a princess!"Hannah laughed. "Thank you, but I was hoping to look like a bride."Grace giggled. "Try on the veil too. I want to see it." As Hannah placed the veil on her dark hair, Grace sighed wistfully. "I'd love to wear a dress like that and march down the aisle.""Whoa, Grace! You're only eleven. It'll be a long time before you're old enough to get married."Grace rested her chin in her hands. "With these braces and freckles, no guy in his right mind would even look twice at me!""By the time you're old enough to get married, you won't have braces," said Hannah. "As for freckles, I have them too, you know--and Josh likes them. If a guy really loves you, he won't care if you have freckles or braces or warts on your nose!"Grace laughed. "Well, at least I don't have the warts." She frowned. "Hannah, how do you know you really love Josh?""Wellbeing in love isn't just having strong feelings for someone," replied Hannah. "It includes respect, friendship, and commitment. When a man and a woman are really in love, they want the best for each other and commit themselves to one another for a lifetime."Hannah gave her sister a hug. "Never get married, Grace, unless you're sure you've found the man you want to live with for the rest of your life."Grace nodded. "I wonder if I'll ever find someone who loves me that much." "Someone already does love you that much," said Hannah. "Jesus! He gave His life so you could spend eternity with Him. God created marriage as a picture of His love for us--love that will last forever. Even if you get married, no one could ever love you as much as God does. That's why you can trust Him to do what's best for you. Maybe He'll bring a special man into your life someday and give you a deep love for one another. Or maybe He'll want you to remain single. Either way, remember that Jesus loves you and promises to take care of you every day of your life." Brenda DeckerHow About You?Do you wonder if you'll ever get married? God designed marriage to last as long as both partners live, so trust Him to guide you in making a wise decision when you get older. But whether you get married or you don't, Jesus will always be with you and take care of you. His love for you will last forever. Today's Key Verse:Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together. (NLT) (Matthew 19:6)Today's Key Thought:Marriage is for life

Keen naturalist Hannah Stitfall is joined by wildlife film researcher Dom Davies to review another programme from the LIVING WORLD archive. The subject today is Spined Loach - a fish you might never heard of because, whilst locally they are abundant, they are classified as a rare protected species and are only found in a handful of places in the UK. Also known as the Spotted Weather Loach because of their ability to detect changes in atmospheric or barometric pressure brought about by changes in the weather, they half bury themselves in fine organic sediment at the bottom of rivers or lakes during the day and then at night sieve the sediment, eating small shrimps and ejecting the mud and sand through their gills. As Hannah and Dom discover, these little fish also have some amazing survival techniques which enable them to survive low oxygen levels, whilst the spines which protrude from under their eyes are thought to help ward off predators.
Anxiety, depression and panic have affected Hannah Sturland’s life greatly, so far. The fear of never knowing when these attacks will strike, only add to the misery they cause. But when the hammer falls, and anxiety attacks, we are then faced with picking up the pieces in a highly personal and exhausting process of rebuilding. One such calamitous event took place in Hannah’s life last year. After suffering a complete breakdown, Hannah was faced with not just rebuilding herself, but also clinging on to the many threads that make up her life. But it also opened her eyes to the resources and help available to fellow sufferers. As Hannah puts it, she was forced to understand how to save her own life. Hannah has joined Paul today to discuss her brave journey back from the edge, and the lessons she learned along the way; lessons that could, perhaps, help those feeling the same way... ABOUT THE GUEST Hannah is a writer, speaker and mental health advocate. Her one true goal is to make a difference in the world, which she’s doing by sharing her story and the formula she created to build her own recovery. She has had a life-long struggle with mental ill-health, which culminated in a complete breakdown last year. Upon realizing that there was no help coming and certainly no magic wand, she set about rebuilding herself in order to achieve authentic, sustainable mental health. Hannah talks about the reality of life after breakdown and brings together everything she’s learnt about how to get and stay well into a simple three step formula, which can help anyone achieve their own recovery, balance or transformation. She has also founded Connected Health, a charity passionate about improving mental health services and connecting services to deliver the means to sustainable recovery for all those suffering mental ill-health. Today’s guest, Hannah Eloge, has always wanted to be a mother. So much so, that she obtained her degree in Education with the idea that her work schedule could easily accommodate having children. Her heart moved towards adoption and creating a family that was a little different than the social norm after seeing many children without a family during her first trip to Africa. After many discussions, she and her partner decided to create a profile book to share with expectant mothers preparing for adoption as they transitioned into a ‘Waiting Family.’ As Hannah searched for help to create her profile book, she recognized the gaps of information available and the lack of community for people who yearned to know more about the adoption process and the experiences of other adoptive families. Hannah founded Kindred & Co., a community designed to help women connect and share their stories about the adoption process, as well as provide assistance in putting together effective profile books for expectant adoptive families. After an adoption experience filled with miracles and coincidences, Hannah and her partner are now parents of twin girls and they have a life-long open adoption agreement with the birth mother. Hannah shares her emotional journey with all of its unexpected turns and the joy of experiencing a strong bond with her daughters birth mother, something she never expected. Her story is truly full of magic and wonderful reminders that family can look so many different ways. In This Episode: ● How Hannah overcame the fear of adoption ● The importance of choosing an ethical adoption agency ● The experience of raising babies in a medical school family ● The differences of adopting internationally and domestically ● How an open adoption allows a birth mother to be part of the family ● How being in the delivery room during the birth can impact the adoptive parents ● The cultural aspects of adopting transracial children ● How a mother’s instinct emerges no matter how she built her family Show Notes: Stitch Fix - Find a maternity stylist who will help you build your pregnancy and postpartum wardrobe delivered right to your door.
