Sam Whiles joins for some chat about "Back To The Egg", but primarily one of the few interviews Paul did for "Back to the Egg". James McCartney was not quite two years old, Wings was settling into the outfit that would become the final iteration, and Paul was toying around with tunes that would become "McCartney II". Also found in this episode is news that is slightly out of date (will that matter in a year, month or even a week?)
Here's an actual e-mail from The Untitled Beatles Podcast to M.P.L., sent on The Fifth of November, 2023: Hi Sir Paul or Freda! We are the Untitled Beatles Podcast, America's foremost discussion of profound, focused Beatles scholarship. With the holidays around the corner (AMERICAN ONES, LIKE CHRISTMAS! USA! USA! USA!) we wanted to represent all Beatles and Macca fans with this wish list for 2024: First off, please, absolutely do not deliver long-delayed remasters of “London Town” and “Back To The Egg”. Who needs' em! The most “recent” ones from 1993, with their harsh compression and lack of any meaningful bonus tracks, have held up JUST GREAT. But, please do make us buy “Band On The Run” again! Only this time, change things up. Maybe put the songs in a different order? Take away all of the beautiful arrangements that are baked into this album's legacy? Just one thing: please, do not include “Helen Wheels”. Feel me, holmes? We at the UBP - the home of Producer Casey's exclusive re-mix of your old band's most famous single, “The Movie Medley”, as you're well aware from your cruel lawsuit - guarantee that even the most skeptical fan will find this to be a stunning reissue we never knew we needed. Your skilled team can give this album an intimacy and rawness that somehow elevates the these already great songs. What do you think? Are you in? And while we have a minute with you Sir Paul, or Freda:
We talk about back to the egg and we talk a lot about M Balding Faylor. Listen if you dare. We go on A LOT!!!!!!
Paul has announced a new Wings reissue, but it's not London Town or Back To The Egg! Details on this week's Beatles Minute podcast.

Hi Gang, We decided to play a fun game for this episode suggested to us by a listener that was also done on the (Things We Said Today Podcast. We take the 70s Macca/Wings albums and we pick one song from each that could work in either direction. (I.e One from Ram that could work on Wild Life) etc. The only exceptions being McCartney and Back To The Egg because you can't go backwards (in the case of McCartney) or forwards (BTTE) on these (if we're staying in the 1970s timeline). This was a cool exercise and in most cases we had some choices that really worked well. What would you swap out? And a shout out to Kyle again for the suggestion. Tom and Andy

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT LAURENCE JUBER (LJ) GRAMMY® winning guitarist Laurence Juber is a solo performer, recording artist, composer and arranger. First internationally recognized as lead guitarist in Beatle Paul McCartney's Wings, with whom he won a Grammy, Juber has since established himself as world-renowned guitar virtuoso and entertainer. Known to his fans as LJ, he has recorded more than two dozen albums spotlighting his unique touch and tone on acoustic guitar. We're Getting Closer! This week on 2Legs we are joined by DJ/YouTuber Stephen Schnee who was a first time listener in 1979 to the final Wings album, Back To The Egg. Steve centers his shows around the oft forgotten Power Pop genre and the 3 of us have a nice chat on musical genres of the era before diving into Back To The Egg, it's structure, the songs of course and it's lasting impact. This was a fun one and we cannot wait for the archive release of this one! Spin It On!

Our time with Wings comes to an end with this funny little album and its accompanying TV special. We explore the unfinished concept behind the album, discuss how tracklist sequencing can make or break a record, and ruminate on who our first spin-off podcast may tackle... "People are ready to forgive a few mistakes. But let's get started, form a party, don't you know how long it takes?" After a successful comeback album and world tour that ended in 1990 Paul was eager to get back to the studio for his follow-up to his well received 1989 album Flowers in the Dirt. Paul opted for a full band/recording live approach for the album, marking it the first time he had recorded an album with a band since Wings' 1979 swan song Back To The Egg. The result was 1993's Off The Ground an album filled with social issues, ballads and a few rockers!

The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown features stripped down, deconstructed mixes of classic Beatles songs, live cuts, solo material, demos, and much more. By highlighting different instruments and vocals you will experience these songs in a way that you've never imagined. Episode #49 features remixes of Wings' often forgotten, and last LP, Back to the Egg.
In 1978 – the year he joined Elvis Costello in The Attractions – bassist Bruce Thomas was personally selected by Paul McCartney to participate in the Rockestra – an all-star ensemble assembled for a pair of Back To The Egg tracks. The collective gathered onstage a year later as part of Wings’ finale at the Kampuchea benefit. But Bruce Thomas is more than an inventive bass player: he’s a veteran musician (with roots in Britain’s 60s Blues Boom) as well as an acclaimed author of fiction and non-fiction both. His newest project – a collaboration with Spencer Brown – includes a Beatles cover.
