Paul McCartney certainly knows how to stay busy! 2 weeks ago Paul "Rocked The Bowery Ballroom" and closed out the 50th Anniversary of SNL! Today, 26th February 2025 he announced the forthcoming release of his OWN book titled: "Wings: The Story of a Band On The Run." The press release: As the Sixties came to a close, Paul was faced with the daunting prospect of being a solo artist for the first time. Wings' ascension to the top of the charts with classic albums including Band on the Run, Venus and Mars and At the Speed of Sound, along with the band's stadium-filling live shows would prove to critics and fans that not all great acts are impossible to follow. Wings:The Story of a Band on the Run is a rousing, stereophonic celebration of the songs, collaborations and performances that would shape the soundtrack of the late 20th century. Drawn from over 500,000 words, based on dozens of hours of interviews with Paul and numerous key players in the band's orbit, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run weaves together the improbable trajectory of Paul McCartney and his newly formed band (featuring co-founding members Linda McCartney and Denny Laine) across the technicolor 1970s until their dissolution in 1981. Edited by the prize-winning historian Ted Widmer and organized around nine Wings albums, the oral history sheds new light on the immediate aftermath of the seismic global impact of The Beatles' break-up, as the musical landscape and tastes began to splinter and diverge along with societal views. The narrative follows the various incarnations of the band as they survive a mugging in Nigeria, appear unannounced at UK university halls, tour in a sheared-off school bus with their children, while producing some of the most indelible and acclaimed music of the decade, including: “Mull of Kintyre,” “Live and Let Die,” “Band on the Run,” “My Love,” “Jet,” “With a Little Luck,” “Silly Love Songs,” “Let ‘Em In,” “Junior's Farm” and more. With more than 100 black-and-white and color photographs, many never seen before, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run is part of a larger reexamination and appreciation of the group and their catalog, including the 2024 theatrical release of the rare Wings live-in-studio performance film One Hand Clapping and its accompanying album; 50th anniversary editions of the Wings albums Band on the Run (released February 2024) and Venus and Mars (releasing March 2025); and a forthcoming documentary on Paul McCartney's solo and Wings-related musical work of the 1970s from Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Morgan Neville. 2025 is shaping up to be a FANTASTIC year for all of us Macca-diehards!

Former bandmates of the late Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musician, Denny Laine, just released a new tribute version of one of Laine's signature songs, Time To Hide, to coincide with what would have been Laine's 80th birthday, October 29. The song, released under the artist name McDonald's Farm, will feature Steve McDonald, Grant Roberts and Laine's former Wings bandmate Steve Holley, with keyboards and production by Graeme Watt at the Seagate Studio Dundee. Through the magic of digital recording technology, it will also feature Laine on harmonica taken from the last time he performed on stage with them. When producing the accompanying music video, the assistance and generosity of Paul McCartney's company, MPL Communications, was invaluable in allowing Graeme Watt who produced the video the use of both photos and video footage of Denny with Paul and Linda McCartney from his time in Wings. This was combined with footage from Denny's later years playing with Steve and Grant at London's Marquee Club and The Old Trout in Windsor (sadly no longer there). To complete Time To Hide, the cover artwork was created by world famous artist Shannon MacDonald. It captures the man, the musician, and the vision of Denny in a spectacular new painting.https://mcdonaldsfarmband.com/homehttps://www.facebook.com/mcdonaldsfarmbandDenny performing Time To Hide on Rock Show! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nLYtVrUf6Y

The movie's soundtrack featured songs from a handful of then-current acts, including The Band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Steppenwolf. In 1971, Paul and Linda McCartney topped the Billboard Hot 100 with “Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey,” from their album Ram. Released only in the US, the track was McCartney's first solo No.1 in the country. Paul would later explain that “Uncle Albert” was based on his real-life uncle: “He's someone I recall fondly and when the song was coming, it was like a nostalgia thing.” In 1976, The Bee Gees went to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “You Should Be Dancing.” The song, which would later be featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, launched the trio towards disco stardom and marked the group's first chart-topper to feature their trademark falsetto vocals. It's week 4 of Second Helpings, and this was one of our most memorable episodes yet! Question, how do you behave when you have a music icon on your podcast? Well, you have a massive fight in front of him of course! Aside from a small bout of bickering, we had lunch with Sir Paul and Mary McCartney and talked about 30 years of Linda McCartney's legacy in the vegetarian food market. We hear about Mary's adventurous childhood on tour with Wings, Paul talks about life after The Beatles and they share memories of becoming vegetarian with Linda cooking a macaroni turkey so Paul could carve something at Christmas. Lennie crowns them ‘the Vegeneers', Paul talks about his famous margarita cocktail ‘Maccarita' and explains the real way to eat Yorkshire puddings. He also offers us a step by step brief on how to make the perfect bagel, gives us a quick eye yoga lesson and reveals how the song Let It Be came about. We could have gone on forever!! Next week on Second Helpings it's chef week, and we're delving back into the archives for one of our very favourite foodie episodes... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

We talk about the freedoms and pressures on Paul as an artist in the wake of the Beatles breakup, his philosophy of 'don't fix the mistake, explore the accident', the darkness in some of the lyrics, the derangement of Monkberry Moon Delight, reclaiming the mantle of the avant garde from John Lennon, Linda's contributions as a producer and vocalist, the influence of the production on modern indie music and more.

The wonderful Bill Lloyd returns to The Record Player nearly two years after he stopped in to discuss Paul and Linda McCartney's RAM with us.This time, we're talking Todd Rundgren with Bill and the conversation spirals in a lot of different directions -- including plenty of record collector nerd chatter. We also discuss Look Into It, Bill's latest solo release, which has a really cool music video for the initial single, "This Ain't My Parade."Our thanks to Bill as always for taking time to converse about music with us! We had a ball.P.S. Here's a link to the absolutely essential Rundgren book from Paul Myers that we mentioned during our conversation.P.S.S. Don't forget to check out the newly reborn Jefitoblog.

If you listen to the GTCC, then you'll know Matt Stephens. One of the most likeable men working in cycling, Matt needs no introduction. Yet his cycling journey started many moons ago, before the sport in the UK became the force it is today. He battled to make it pro in the 90s, eventually getting there with the infamous Linda McCartney Team. After one solid year, the team unexpectedly folded - leaving Matt with no job, and no way of paying the mortgage. His story is a fascinating one, and Tom and G were delighted to welcome him to the GTCC. Indeed, the chat was so interesting and went on far longer than usual - so we've cut it into two parts. Here's part one - and we will release part two on Friday! Enjoy. Music courtesy of BMG Music Production Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Many observers have tried to pinpoint the specific events that lead to Lennon-McCartney, the formidable songwriting partnership, transitioning to Lennon v. McCartney. But the fact is there is no single truth regarding why the beloved duo split. So instead of investigating the why, we look at the aftermath: legal battles, hurtful accusations in song and, ultimately, a sense of resolution. “Too Many People” opens Paul and Linda McCartney's 1971 album, “RAM” and serves as an opening to explore Lennon-McCartney's dissolution ahead of ultimately resolving their differences and rekindling a friendship. “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” is a co-production between iHeart Media, MPL and Pushkin Industries. After many years of trying, a theme song from a James Bond movie finally broke through and received an Oscar nomination! Paul and Linda McCartney made history with "Live and Let Die," not only ushering in a new chapter for James Bond songs, but showing that rock music can be a part of Academy history two years after "Theme From Shaft" won the Academy Award. Host Jeff Commings talks more about the story to bring "Live and Let Die" to the screen, and the extremely popular Barbra Streisand song that brought her back into global popularity and made her songwriters the talk of Hollywood.

Dennis connects via telephone with his longtime friend Jude Hopkins to discuss her new novel Babe In the Woods. Here's the official blurb: After living in Los Angeles, Hadley Todd returns to her hometown in rural New York to write and be near her father. Hadley hopes to channel her recent L.A. heartbreak into a play about the last moment of a woman's innocence. But she seeks inspiration. Enter Trey Harding, a young, handsome reporter who is the perfect spark to fire up her imagination. In the interview, Jude talks about how the novel began as a riff on Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind, why she decided to make her heroine Hadley more complicated than most rom-com heroines, and why she decided to not aim for the HEA or “happily ever after” market. Jude also talks about never giving up on her dream of having a novel published and wonders why so many people do give up on their dreams. Jude and Dennis also reminisce about times they spent together in LA; recording song parodies, going to game show tapings, trying and failing to see David Cassidy perform at the Ambassador Hotel and crafting outgoing messages for Dennis's answering machine. Other topics include: why Jude's glad her parents ignored her growing up, when she fell in love with literature, why she loves teaching, being disillusioned by Alex Trebek, meeting Tina Turner and Paul and Linda McCartney when she worked at Capital Records and that glorious moment when she first held her finished novel in her hands. https://www.judehopkinswriting.net/
