The great political saga that had rocked London for the last decade or so APPARENTLY was over; but out in the streets the old forces which had instigated so much chaos found new issues to fall out over and London seemed about to engage in a new era of infighting and politics… and yet, within only a few short years? Everything changed. London united as it had not done in decades, and started to come to terms with strange events taking place within the city; jousts held upon London Bridge… and the sudden appearance of a crime fighting wizard. Honestly!Come join us as the Story of London deals with the years when London had to cope with many strange things.
Have you ever had a Rock & Roll Fantasy? The Kinks did. So did Bad Company. And nobody hated Bad Company more than rock music's Stephen Sondheim. #FireElaineStritch Some Rock & Roll fantasies are quite dangerous, like the troubling, cancel-worthy ones Rick Rubin has about feet. ALLEGEDLY. But others are healthy enough to dream out loud, on, by any reasonable metric, one of America's most acclaimed podcasts. Inspired by an inspiring suggestion from longtime listener, Patreon supporter, and singer/songwriter, Montreal's own Max "Como" Comeau (which translates loosely in ‘Murican to "Max, how"?), Tony and T.J. dare to dream: what would have a Beatles reunion concert been like in the late 1970's? Would George wear his silly stache from his self titled LP? Would Paul arrive on a laconic boat from London Town? Would John bake bread as Yoko verbally assaults Chuck Berry? And would Ringo be sober enough to zug-zug his way from Monte Carlo to the venue? These questions will NOT be answered in this fairly insane excursion in to fantasyland - you'll thank us for the two drink minimum, folks - but don't fret; neither will these:

We're journeying from the jungles of Darkest Peru to Jolly Ol' London Town in this adaptation of the beloved children's stories by Michael Bond. The Bond is strong with Q actor Ben Whishaw who voices the precocious titular bear. The cast is stacked with talent, including Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, and Nicole Kidman in key roles, with Michael Gambon and Imelda Stauton lending their voice talents. The director is Paul King (he of The Mighty Boosh), here helming the picture to critical and commercial success, to the tune of two BAFTA nominations and over $300 million at the box office. But are our hosts as enamored with the end result, or did we find it… unbearable? Exit the intro, pursued by a bear: Paddington Bear. Oh, bother. This intensely creative time in McCartney's life saw him writing and recording four studio albums with Wings (Venus and Mars, Wings at the Speed of Sound, London Town and Back to the Egg), the biggest selling British single of the 1970s, 'Mull of Kintyre,' and a solo album packed with electronic experimentalism, McCartney II. During a period of diverse musical evolution, McCartney melded his own melody-driven approach with in-vogue styles like disco, punk and new wave.Away from Wings, McCartney dabbled in music publishing, science fiction writing, semi-autobiographical filmmaking, animation, viral marketing, journalist boycotting, and smuggling cannabis past authority figures with mixed success. McGear, an album Paul co-wrote with his brother, Mike, tops a long list of lesser known projects and collaborations - some of which never saw the light of day - that kept McCartney busy between hit records. For the second half of this decade, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr remained ever present in McCartney's life. Collaborations were mooted, and multi-million dollar offers for one-off reunion concerts were plentiful, but the scars of the Beatles' bitter separation, and their complex, hard to untangle business ties complicated their private and public relationships.THE McCARTNEY LEGACY series is the first truly comprehensive biography, and the most finely detailed exploration of McCartney's creative life beyond the Beatles, ever undertaken. As well as thousands of never-before-seen documents, this volume is informed by hundreds of interviews, including exclusive, in-depth discussions with all four surviving members of Wings Mk. II and Mk. III - Geoff Britton, Joe English, Steve Holley and Laurence Juber - plus countless producers, musicians, recording engineers, designers, and touring staff who worked with McCartney between 1974-80.THE McCARTNEY LEGACY, VOLUME 2 is an in-depth exploration of McCartney's creative and personal life during a period that saw him composing constantly, and recording in Nashville, New Orleans and a boat moored off the Virgin Islands, as well as at Abbey Road in London, a 13th century British castle and his home studios in Scotland and Sussex.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we deal with vampires in old London Town,'. - Ben Aaronovitch in Rivers of LondonWe start this episode in the London neighborhood of Highgate. It's famous cemetery, exuding Victorian design and extravagance, is the setting for our first story, about a potential paranormal experience and the long term metaphysical feud that resulted. We'll delve into mainstream horror cinema of the 1950s and 60s from London's own Hammer Films, with special emphasis on its vampiric offerings. In Dracula, Bram Stoker's count moved far and wide around the city. We'll trace his footsteps and learn hidden coding to the novel's London locations. What's a modern vampire to do in the city? We highlight some haunts for those interested in exploring the city as a creature of the night. And, as intro, we share a brief memorial to our late, beloved pod-pup, Boo. Oh man, we are so back. The sun is shining, the cicadas are not deafening us yet and we did a daily discussion topic about stealing, we did not miss a beat being on vacation. This, of course, was brought on by something Angi did in London but we opened by asking if the roadies had ever stolen from a hotel or restaurant. For example, a 60 year old rich woman known by Angi stole a silver butter tray once. Apparently, the rich are the most prone to stealing because they're used to taking everything from the poor as is but also because they have to have a way to find fun when they have everything. The thing is, people love junk and will fight other things like Rock 95.5 keychains and shirts because it's there for the taking. The same could be said of those big juicy pens, which is essentially how this technically started and then we had the Angi tack on. Of people polled, more than half said it is fine to take a branded pen from a hotel. It should be considered complementary marketing since it's branded and you clearly wanted it enough to steal it and show it off. Weirdly enough, on the flip side, only 8% of people think it is okay to steal a pen from a restaurant, say the one left with the bill. If you were curious for more of a breakdown, Midwestern Gen X women steal from restaurants and Gen Z men take from hotels. Tying this back around to our resident show klepto (remember when she stole money from Dairy Queen to buy wine coolers at 16?,) Angi was at breakfast in her hotel in London when something caught her eye. She saw these mini jars of British jam and marmalade and she wanted so badly to shove them in her purse. As she did unload the entire haul in there, Jay the Straight freaked out and called her a thief. Before he could jump out of his chair and ask for the cops to take her away, she was shamed into not stealing the jars. As for Marris, when he was at bad AirBNB's, Marris would take something like a pillow or the liquor that was left out. Angi was stunned on several fronts, first that Marris would "rob someone's home," then that people left liquor out for guests to drink. I'm assuming all her next trips will be AirBNB's now. Marris explained that he would pretend that they drank the liquor while there and just take it all home with them. Now it's been ages since I stayed at a hotel so I can't comment on that but I think all of us had a klepto phase when we were younger, stealing was always such a rush. Before implicating ourselves in anything further, let's just get to the Request Line roadies. Sara stole a robe and slippers from a hotel before it was customary to be charged for taking them. It was in Hawaii as well so you know it was fancy. Sam was so excited to talk about stealing pillows that she swore and had to be given the boot. Austin will bring home the bath towels from hotels. Stephanie steals sauces from Chipotle. Katie steals k cups from hotels and Angi was in 100% in assuming they just belonged to you. Leanne stole towels from The Stanley Hotel, made famous in the movie The Shining. Rad Dad takes condiments from restaurants and shampoos and lotions from hotels and gives those to the homeless. Oddly, Angi again said that those are clearly meant for the guests to take. If you are looking for more roadie thoughts or have your own, hit up our Facebook group (Angi Taylor Show) and drop us a comment.

*Mrs. Doubtfire voice* Oh hellOOOOOoooo! Queen Lizzie's reign starts to heat up when a special fog rolls into London Town, and it causes CHAOS. No one can see (or breathe) a damned thing. Everyone is looking to Winston Churchill to solve the problem, but what is he worried about? Phillip flying! Is he serious??? We also get to know more about the new girl, Venetia Scott! She's got the hots for ... Winston Churchill? We're not entirely sure, but she's definitely crushing on him - luckily platonically, kind of! We've got a lot to cover, and more! Here's an actual e-mail from The Untitled Beatles Podcast to M.P.L., sent on The Fifth of November, 2023: Hi Sir Paul or Freda! We are the Untitled Beatles Podcast, America's foremost discussion of profound, focused Beatles scholarship. With the holidays around the corner (AMERICAN ONES, LIKE CHRISTMAS! USA! USA! USA!) we wanted to represent all Beatles and Macca fans with this wish list for 2024: First off, please, absolutely do not deliver long-delayed remasters of “London Town” and “Back To The Egg”. Who needs' em! The most “recent” ones from 1993, with their harsh compression and lack of any meaningful bonus tracks, have held up JUST GREAT. But, please do make us buy “Band On The Run” again! Only this time, change things up. Maybe put the songs in a different order? Take away all of the beautiful arrangements that are baked into this album's legacy? Just one thing: please, do not include “Helen Wheels”. Feel me, holmes? We at the UBP - the home of Producer Casey's exclusive re-mix of your old band's most famous single, “The Movie Medley”, as you're well aware from your cruel lawsuit - guarantee that even the most skeptical fan will find this to be a stunning reissue we never knew we needed. Your skilled team can give this album an intimacy and rawness that somehow elevates the these already great songs. What do you think? Are you in? And while we have a minute with you Sir Paul, or Freda:
It's time to walk in the joint to see what those big spenders, Tom and Thos, have to say about the evergreen musical, Sweet Charity, and in particular the 1969 big screen version directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse - all part of their in-depth delve into his amazing career. Is the Rich Man's Frug the most Fosse-esque dance sequence ever committed to celluloid? What is the Rhythm of Life scene all about, really? And wasn't the late Chita Rivera an astoundingly good actor? And then Tom and Thos finally crack how to give the Sweet Charity story a suitable ending - so you can live optimistically ever after!
What good is sitting alone in your room when you could do it in the company of Tom and Thos? This week, they continue their in-depth look at the career of the legendary Bob Fosse, movie musical director and choreographer, by looking at his amazing 1972 film, Cabaret. Why is it so different to the original stage production? Who is the film really about? And is Sally Bowles actually a monster? Will you find out the answers? Maybe this time!
Join Tom and Thos as they take an in-depth look at the career of the legendary movie musical director and choreographer, Bob Fosse, through the lens of his three musical films - Sweet Charity, Cabaret and All That Jazz. How far did he take the ideas behind his choreography and then use them to inform his directorial decisions - and does it work? In this week's episode, it's all about the stunning but oh-so-dark 1979 musical film, All That Jazz. It's show time!
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Denny Laine is in our ears and in our eyes. And since December 2023, also, sadly, in the skies. As Macca's most consistent post-Beatles collaborator, Denny Laine's imprint on Wings and Sir Paul's overall legacy is unquestionably secure. This week, Tony & T.J. look at some of Denny Laine's greatest moments with Wings and beyond, and also ask:
Have you ever wanted to walk in the footsteps of the great economists? Do you want to breathe the same air they breathed? Do you want to be inspired by the ghosts of Economics past? Well now's your chance. Ye olde London Town is rich with economic history and in this podcast special, your friendly neighbourhood economists, Pete and Gav, take you on a 3 mile journey around Central London. Starting at the British Library and ending at the LSE, you will find out why certain landmarks are important within the world of economics. It should take you just over an hour to walk and on the journey, you can pay homage to the likes of Marx, Keynes and Fawcett. Technical support as always comes from 'The Stitcher' Nic.

The gals are back in the studio for this rip roaring edition of Drunk Women Solving Crime, most of the rip, and a good deal of the roar, being supplied by this week's sublime guest, comedian Chloe Petts! Although this was recorded on the sweatiest day on record (probably) in London Town, that didn't stop Chloe from stawpedoing a Smirnoff Ice right before we pressed record ... no mean feat considering we didn't really have a straw.Chloe was then revved-up enough to share with us a biting tale of childhood forensics and a teacher who surely missed their vocation in law enforcement? We then get involved with a story which stinks in more ways than one, before solving a crime which left a listener feeling more than a little short changed.
