Send us a textWriter/director Jeff Hupp joins The Fixate & Binge Podcast to discuss his 2025 indie feature BAND ON THE RUN— a heartfelt, DIY road-trip film shot in just eight days that captures a fleeting moment in the late 1990s Detroit Garage Rock scene.Centered on the rock trio 'Hot Freaks', the film follows drummer Jesse Grant (Matthew Perl) as he rallies his bandmates to chase a last-chance opportunity to play SXSW, hoping to escape the gravitational pull of dead-end jobs and inherited disappointment. What begins as a familiar “band on the road” story becomes something more intimate when Jesse's paraplegic father (Larry Bagby) joins the journey — grounding the film in a deeply human exploration of ambition, regret, and the fragile bond between parent and child. In this conversation, Hupp reflects on Detroit's often-overlooked music history, the realities of ultra-low-budget filmmaking, his own background in advertising, and why Band on the Run is ultimately less about success than the courage to try. Drawing inspiration from films like ALMOST FAMOUS and THE COMMITMENTS, the episode celebrates artists who dare to take their shot — even when the odds are stacked against them.Band on the Run is now streaming on Amazon Prime!Thank you for listening! Historian and biographer Ted Widmer is the editor of Paul McCartney's new book "Wings: The Story Of A Band On the Run' - is not only a vivid account of Paul's music after the Beatles broke up, but it's also about his second act of life on the road - and in the studio - with his new band Wings. As a respected historian and writer, Widmer shapes McCartney's story into an engaging narrative (I couldn't stop reading it!) with personal stories of the beginnings of Wings to the cultural and societal changes happening in music from the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. A flashback conversation you won't soon forget - still, get the book and read all the details of this second chapter of Paul's music. Musicians recount the strange and unexpected story behind the making of your favorite albums. Paul McCartney was feeling left behind by his ex-bandmates' solo careers and dealing with an ever-shifting roster of players in his new band when he decided to head for the tropics of Lagos, Nigeria to record his next album. Things only got wilder from there. The gang get together to talk about Linda's high notes, stringing different songs together, and how Fela Kuti felt about the first 60s pop star to come to his homeland.Join our Mailing List here: https://linktr.ee/1001albumcomplaintsEmail us your complaints (or questions / comments) at 1001AlbumComplaints@gmail.comListen to our episode companion playlist (compilation of the songs we referenced on this episode) here:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7rlpUQizjJZyepqslqfbTF?si=2f049010c1794e0fListen to Band on the Run here:https://open.spotify.com/album/257oomaawruFknt5wYCPDh?si=ef4FK2h0RVuww28WmEOZeQIntro music: When the Walls Fell by The Beverly CrushersOutro music: After the Afterlife by MEGAFollow our Spotify Playlist of music produced directly by us. Band On The Run is Paul McCartney's succesvolste album na het uiteenvallen van The Beatles. Ringo Starr købte lejlighed i Monte Carlo. Og festede. Søren Mathiesen og Claus Nielsen har igen åbnet historiebøgerne og er guider på rejsen rundt i det spændende Beatles-univers. Du er i gode hænder, når de to er i ørerne på dig. Lyt gerne til første del før denne episode. Giver mest mening.

On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Adam listen to Jamie's next pick, Paul McCartney & Wings' "Band on the Run". Released in 1973, it was his fifth album since leaving The Beatles in 1970, and his third album with his new group, Wings. To date, it is his most successful post-Beatles album in terms of sales and critical rating. Recorded partially in Lagos, Nigeria with final overdubs recorded in London, the album won Best Engineered Non-Classical Album at the 17th Grammy Awards in 1974. But what will the boys think of the album? Will this be a rare quorum or will they have "No Words"? Come along and find out!
Paul McCartney certainly knows how to stay busy! 2 weeks ago Paul "Rocked The Bowery Ballroom" and closed out the 50th Anniversary of SNL! Today, 26th February 2025 he announced the forthcoming release of his OWN book titled: "Wings: The Story of a Band On The Run." The press release: As the Sixties came to a close, Paul was faced with the daunting prospect of being a solo artist for the first time. Wings' ascension to the top of the charts with classic albums including Band on the Run, Venus and Mars and At the Speed of Sound, along with the band's stadium-filling live shows would prove to critics and fans that not all great acts are impossible to follow. Wings:The Story of a Band on the Run is a rousing, stereophonic celebration of the songs, collaborations and performances that would shape the soundtrack of the late 20th century. Drawn from over 500,000 words, based on dozens of hours of interviews with Paul and numerous key players in the band's orbit, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run weaves together the improbable trajectory of Paul McCartney and his newly formed band (featuring co-founding members Linda McCartney and Denny Laine) across the technicolor 1970s until their dissolution in 1981. Edited by the prize-winning historian Ted Widmer and organized around nine Wings albums, the oral history sheds new light on the immediate aftermath of the seismic global impact of The Beatles' break-up, as the musical landscape and tastes began to splinter and diverge along with societal views. The narrative follows the various incarnations of the band as they survive a mugging in Nigeria, appear unannounced at UK university halls, tour in a sheared-off school bus with their children, while producing some of the most indelible and acclaimed music of the decade, including: “Mull of Kintyre,” “Live and Let Die,” “Band on the Run,” “My Love,” “Jet,” “With a Little Luck,” “Silly Love Songs,” “Let ‘Em In,” “Junior's Farm” and more. With more than 100 black-and-white and color photographs, many never seen before, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run is part of a larger reexamination and appreciation of the group and their catalog, including the 2024 theatrical release of the rare Wings live-in-studio performance film One Hand Clapping and its accompanying album; 50th anniversary editions of the Wings albums Band on the Run (released February 2024) and Venus and Mars (releasing March 2025); and a forthcoming documentary on Paul McCartney's solo and Wings-related musical work of the 1970s from Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Morgan Neville. 2025 is shaping up to be a FANTASTIC year for all of us Macca-diehards!

The cast members look at the 50th anniversary release, included the new 'Underdubbed' mix, of 'Band on the Run'.
Amazingly, after 12 years of doing this podcast, we've never done a full track-by-track analysis of the Paul McCartney and Wings 1973 album, Band on the Run. We give an overview of the album's genesis and history, go through the songs, discuss the many reissues, landing on the 50th anniversary edition (with the "underdubbed" mixes) released in February 2024. Is it Paul's best album? We also discuss some upcoming Beatles-related releases for Record Store Day, a new Sean Lennon album, and the relaunch of our video podcast. Here's an actual e-mail from The Untitled Beatles Podcast to M.P.L., sent on The Fifth of November, 2023: Hi Sir Paul or Freda! We are the Untitled Beatles Podcast, America's foremost discussion of profound, focused Beatles scholarship. With the holidays around the corner (AMERICAN ONES, LIKE CHRISTMAS! USA! USA! USA!) we wanted to represent all Beatles and Macca fans with this wish list for 2024: First off, please, absolutely do not deliver long-delayed remasters of “London Town” and “Back To The Egg”. Who needs' em! The most “recent” ones from 1993, with their harsh compression and lack of any meaningful bonus tracks, have held up JUST GREAT. But, please do make us buy “Band On The Run” again! Only this time, change things up. Maybe put the songs in a different order? Take away all of the beautiful arrangements that are baked into this album's legacy? Just one thing: please, do not include “Helen Wheels”. Feel me, holmes? We at the UBP - the home of Producer Casey's exclusive re-mix of your old band's most famous single, “The Movie Medley”, as you're well aware from your cruel lawsuit - guarantee that even the most skeptical fan will find this to be a stunning reissue we never knew we needed. Your skilled team can give this album an intimacy and rawness that somehow elevates the these already great songs. What do you think? Are you in? And while we have a minute with you Sir Paul, or Freda:
Before he jetted off to New York, and then Vegas, Sir Paul and his team dropped the fiftieth anniversary release of "Band on the Run", highlighted by the "Underdubbed edition." This week we consider the new release and look at what is under the orchestra and horns.
In this special episode, Oliver and Doug face off in an argument for the ages. OK, they discuss the high and low points of Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings. Guess who talked about more low points. Download IYE24010401.mp3 In Your Earholes on Twitter/XOliver on Twitter/XDoug on Twitter/X
Well, we finally got our hands on it! We go track by track on the new mix. Vinyl and CD for all 3 of us! Tom gives his opinion on the 1/2 Speed remaster as well (Andy & David had not listened as of recording date). No OBI strip with the Deluxe Box, so what do we need? Another Copy! Let us know your thoughts and opinions on the Underdubbed Mix. Underwhelming? Thoroughly Enjoying It. And we'll see you this weekend at the FEST! All the best! Andy and Tom

Live from Meigs Field, it's the final Untitled Beatles Podcast! Of 2023, that is! Unless you know something we don't? What is you [sic], a cop? If so, are you as effortlessly bouncy as the cop in "Hot Cop", the Village People's #2 Billboard Disco Charts smash from '78? #HotCop Anyhoo, it's onto Side 2, as we continue to deep dish “Band On The Run”, Paul's most beloved album that doesn't feature the word “Oratorio”. And because Tony, T.J., Producer Casey, and Sir Paul are all obviously Americans, we'll consider the US version that includes the powerhouse single, “Helen Wheels”, not to mention much more memorable Macca music. Plus, we'll examine this album's rough beginning in Lagos and unmatched legacy within Paul's recorded catalog, the celebrated cover and packaging, and also:
Many Macca fans would argue that Paul McCartney's best post-Beatles album is the German 12” Maxi-Single of “All My Trials”. (#WixTrumpetSolo) But others just might suggest that it's 1973's still-beloved landmark, “Band On The Run”. This week, Tony & T.J. celebrate 50 years of this true (and, maybe, ultimate) Macca classic with a deep dish on Side 1, which features some of Paul's most celebrated, iconic mega-hits. Along this Journey (#LyingBesideU), the Soft Beatle Boyz also ask:

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Aaron takes a deep dive into the story behind Paul McCartney & Wings' 1973 classic album.
Growing up in the 1970s and 80s, one assumed that Paul McCartney was always universally loved because of his work in The Beatles, his 70s solo work and that with Wings, and his positive peace & love attitude. However, in 1973 Paul found himself in a bit of turmoil. Though he'd enjoyed some success as a solo artist, particularly in the US, Paul was being criticized for the adult contemporary nature of his music vs. the output of the other Beatles and the harder rocking music of the day. He was skewered in the British press after he released Leave Ireland to the Irish on the heels of Bloody Sunday in 1972 and had lost several members of Wings over being treated as hired hands and the presence of Linda in the band despite her lack of musical ability. However, Paul forged ahead with Linda and Denny Laine to create Band on the Run, released on December 5, 1973 in the US (November 30, 1973 in the UK). The title track is one of redemption and freedom inspired by George Harrison during their ongoing Apple Corps meetings and negotiations. Jet is an upbeat song that climbed the charts around the world despite it being about his dog and getting to know Linda's father. All four solo Fabs released legendary albums in their lives. But among the critical darlings (“Gone Troppo”), chart topping smash hits (“Ringo Rama”, 5.1 edition) and absolutely despised, forgotten about, piles of doggie poo poo doo doo (“Band On The Run”), there are some solo albums that remain quite difficult to categorize. Like this week's Deep Dish Part 1 (CALORIE ALERT!) on the ever-controversial John & Yoko “Some Time In New York City”. Is this a terrible record? Is it actually brilliant? Has it aged better than expected in the 50 years since its release? What do you think this is, pal, “Sound Opinions?” Sure, you come here for us to answer those fab questions, but you also may be wondering:
Summertime done, come and gone, oh my my! (#RingoGarcia) Yep, fall is upon us and with it means a boatload of forthcoming Beatles goodies! Maybe? Could there be a 50th “Mind Games”? A deluxe “Rubber Soul”? The long-anticipated expanded “Love Songs” box set, with a bonus 7” test pressing of “Girl”/“You're Gonna Lose That Girl” and a gnome or two, for only $400? Paul McCartney decidió grabar Band On The Run en Lagos, Nigeria.
