La semaine dernière, Paul McCartney a sorti un nouvel album The Boys of Dungeon Lane. Sir Paul à 83 ans, mais il continue de travailler. Est-ce que le refus d'arrêter de travailler est plus présent qu’on pense ? Entrevue avec Dr Stéphane Lemire, Interniste-gériatre. For over 50 years, Saturday Night Live has been one of the most Important shows for rock music in the history of the nascent television medium. While, arguably, the most famous moment in the show's history (and Tony's favorite?) is RHCP's multi-key 1992 version of “Under The Bridge”, there have been others. (Musical Guest The Ting Tings ripping up a photo of Colonel Sanders comes to mind.) Fortunately, just in time for NBC's never more relevant, May sweeps season finale of SNL, they pulled in the big guns: RHCP! Oh s**t, Frusciante and Kiedis (LLC) are busy? Maybe (checks notes) Chad Smith is free? Might as well bring in noted Chad Smith lookalike Will Ferrel (“Elf”, Capitol One) to teach Chad how to host the show! Everyone knows Chad Smith's best friend is Paul McCartney. So Chad called Sir Paul to see if he'd learn the bass part for the AI generated RHCP songs “Funky California Space Cadet” and “Santa Monica Ding-Dong”, as onetime Macca drummer Chris Whitten beat Flea's ass in Hamburg. Where you ask? Why, under the bridge. When asked for comment, Flea replied, I don't ever wanna feel, like when Chris Whitten kicked my ass.” Later that week, as longtime Macca drummer Abe Laboriel JR was (Alonzo) mourning young mister Christopher's legal predicament and unable to travel, Chad Smith had an idea. He could play in Paul's band! On SNL! The very talented singer songwriter Ingrid Michaelson can even sing back-up, and perhaps even “Cook Of The House”! And Paul could completely ignore any lame Beatles music during the live, 90 minute broadcast, because nobody wants to hear that junk! (#Motorcars #Handlebars) Are you still with us? Da f is wrong with you? You already know Tony & T.J. will talk Macca's historic SNL performance and also hit you up with such mind benders as:

It was five years ago today When Teej and Tony told their friends to play A VHS that T.J. had around With its super warbly 80s sound So may we introduce to you The film you've loved for all these years: Paul McCartney's “Give My Regards to Broad Street” ----- Originally aired April 17, 2021 At long last, T.J. and Tony review Sir Paul's magnum opus: Give My Regards to Broad Street. Starring and written by Paul McCartney, the 1984 movie was panned by critics and audiences alike, but brought us some of Paul's best music of the decade ("No More Lonely Nights"), and some of his worst remakes of his best music from decades past (lookin' at you, "Long and Winding Road"). This long and rambling podcast leads to all the usual goofs and giggles, and—as far as we're able to ascertain—what we believe to be the first reference to the theme music from NBC's "The Days & Nights of Molly Dodd" in podcasting history. And what movie review is complete without also covering the Commodore 64 video game adaptation? Movie viewing recommended (you might be able to find it on YouTube), but certainly not required. Good times guaranteed either way, or your money back. EPISODE LINKS PANDORA PLAYLIST Check out UBP's videos on TikTok/YouTube/Facebook/Instagram! Like and subscribe! Please support our scrappy show. Paul McCartney banned from his own subreddit -- the Beatle legend's official account u/paulmccartney drops exclusive no-phones concert pics and videos from his sold-out Fonda Theatre show straight into r/PaulMcCartney via Dropbox and Reddit's bots immediately nuked it as spam. Account looked straight-up banned, post vanished, mods were as confused as everyone else -- yeah turns out it was just a "technical glitch" per Reddit admins, everything's restored now but the irony of Sir Paul getting auto-booted from his own fan club for sharing his own stuff is pure comedy gold. Oscar winner Morgan Neville's new documentary Man on the Run offers an intimate look at Paul McCartney in the 10 years after he left the Beatles, as he tried to establish a new musical and personal identity after the dissolution of rock n' roll's most iconic band. The filmmaker explains how he approached interviewing Sir Paul to gain fresh insight into the least examined aspect of McCartney's career. Learn more about your ad choices. Jerry Douglas - King of the Dobro- 16 Grammys, 3 CMAs, 3 AMAs, a Million Stories! 16-time Grammy Winner, three-time CMA Musician of the Year award recipient, Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship award winner, Artist in Residence for the Country Music Hall of Fame, Jerry Douglas, is such an underachiever! What is a dobro? Uninformed minds wanted to know. Jerry schooled us, but as your fun favorite professor would. Why a dobro? We got that education too. From his bluegrass-playing steelworker band on the side, father, Flatt and Scruggs obsessed little kid, to professional musician at 16, playing Avery Fischer Hall with headliner David Bromberg, to winning his first Grammy at 19, to playing with James Taylor, John Prine, Steve Goodman, Mumford & Sons, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Alison Krauss, to Eric Clapton. We got the skinny on all of them, plus Jerry's chance meeting with Sir Paul, a seemingly scary Ry Cooder, recording in Abby Road, dinner with Clapton and Ron Wood, how he met his bride of 17 years, parenting 4, grandparenting 7, loving all of them, all of it, except the night of extreme excess that led to his sobriety. Bonus, he also played us out, as only dobro master, Jerry Douglas, could. I knew when Snuffy and I spent an evening in Nashville recently with Jerry and Jill that he'd be a great guest, as with his playing, he exceeded all expectations. Jerry Douglas Live on Game Changers with Vicki Abelson Wednesday, 1/14/26, 5 PM PT/ 8 PM ET
naaaaaa naa naa nanana naaaaaaa nanana naaaaaaa Hey Jude (now all the people in Chicago) At long last, T.J. and Tony had their chance to catch Sir Paul's (Baby) Got Back tour in its final U.S. stop, in the finest city in the land. Sure, it's the same show we heard Glen glow about in Iowa, and Casey canonize in the Twin Cities, and Mark marvel upon in the Big Easy, but Macca always smacks a little harder with a Malort and a side of giardinier'. What were Tony's takeaways from his second-ever McCartney show? T.J.'s tidbits from his SEVENTEENTH? Tune in to find out! And maybe also discover:

Legendary Chicago singer/songwriter Steve Goodman once sang of riding the rails on a train known as the City Of New Orleans. We have no idea how Chicago-based UBP listener, friend, and journalist/author Mark Guarino (Country & Midwestern, Chicago Sun Times, ABC-TV) got to the world's greatest arena, the Smoothie King Center, to see Sir Paul rock NOLA. But, if Mark is a real Chicago guy, he's probably still been there since the Bears won Super Bowl XX in January of 1986; unarguably the single greatest day in American history unless you hate excellence and joy. #PaytonIsTheGoat But all that matters is that Mark did manage to see Macca in one of America's most incredible cities, and he generously reported back on the show and the scene for the rest of us. At an extremely exorbitant fee, I might add. $12,000 for an audio field piece? In this economy, Mark??? Tony & T.J. will give their highly anticipated (editor's note: by whom?) recap after they see McCartney in Chicago over Thanksgiving week, you turkeys; but in the meantime we're excited to share another in our continuing series of the UBP Hive seeing Sir Paul live in 2025. We also ask the tough questions that only OAN has the balls to ask, because they're also insane, just not in a healthy and fun way:
"Help!" No longer "Coming Up" in the South, sir Paul and the Got Back tour. Lonnie and I discuss Sir Paul in San Antonio, both recent and through the mists of time. Has the Alamodome held up as well as Sir Paul over the thirty-plus years? What about the Tobin Center? Maybe even some thoughts on Hotel Emma. #madeonzencastr!

Game 7 of the World Series revealed who is and who isn't a big time sports fan. We have A-dumb's King-dumb. Ian Fitzsimmons joins the show to talk college football. We discuss the outlook of the AFC. And will Sir Paul share a mic with Rothman when he comes to town?

For 33 1/3 years, Paul Rappaport made history as a rock promotions kingpin at Columbia Records, shaping pathways for the biggest artists of the '70s, 80s and '90s to find their audience. Paul has penned 'Gliders Over Hollywood: Airships, Airplay, and the Art of Rock Promotion', a memoir that captures the creative fun and the rich, human connection at the heart of the record business in its golden era.Paul shares stories of big-budget, wildly innovative stunts, like painting a radio station pink for Pink Floyd, sending a terrifying “alien invasion like” laser beam across Los Angeles skies for Blue Oyster Cult and jumping through every station relationship hoop to land Mick Jagger, out of the box, at number one on the charts! Paul reports that in the records and radio world, it was friendships and reciprocity that made the engines hum.Paul shares stories of his heart-to-hearts with Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Mick Jagger and of his one-of-a-king thank you gift from Pink Floyd… an opportunity to join them on stage in London to shred and trade guitar licks with David Gilmour on Run Like Hell! With a deep reverence for music and the artists who shaped his world view, Paul reflects on the chance he was given to be a part of the effort alongside his boyhood heroes and to help them share their work with the world.Music is ever-evolving and to get radio stations on board with new sounds, Paul would often grab everyone from neighborhood radio stations and record stores and personally initiate them to the glory that is Billy Joel or Bruce Springsteen live and in concert. It worked! He arranged one-on-one interviews, including the time Philadelphia radio personality Helen Leicht looked into the eyes of Paul McCartney and broke into tears. Sir Paul jumped up and pulled her into a hug. Beatles up close are sob inducing. He gets it.Co-host Weezy, also a radio/records veteran, talks shop with Paul, remembering warmly the kooky and collaborative crusade to celebrate and share the music. They also discuss the future of terrestrial radio. Laurence Juber Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson How life-affirming to be back Live with 2x Grammy Winner Laurence Juber. Laurence got us started with his Cobalt Blue. Loved it! What an extraordinary finger-playing guitarist. Gorgeous. We talked the LA fires, the Juber evacuation plan, fortunately not taken to fruition. Animals before guitars, his one-of-a-kind custom shop signature Martin, and a Les Paul were the two that made the cut. Laurence is doing what he can to help, performing at a series of gigs that will donate their proceeds, including Tuesday's big fundraiser at The Canyon Club. Laurence talked with great pride about his two daughters, both achieving big things in the biz. He also spoke with great love and reverence of his wife, Hope, to whom he's been married and a true partner in life and oft in art, for 42 years. It's clear that it's family first and creating for the Jubers. There's no sitting around eating bonbons and watching the tube for this high-functioning family. We talked about Laurence's early days and influences, clarinet his first instrument, finding guitar, and learning to read music in a day. He claims. everyone was doing it. His dream was to be a session player, and he quickly realized it in Abby Road Studios with the likes of George Martin. He gigged around with innumerable bands, quite happy to be doing so, until Denny Laine made that fateful connection. Auditioning with drummer Steve Holley, their lives both changed that day when Paul McCartney asked what they'd be doing for the next few years. A childhood fantasy realized, until a pot bust in Japan. Laurence spoke of his solo work, lots more session work, segueing to TV, which led him to some work with a guy named Snuffy, and ultimately to scoring and composing… writing two musicals with Hope, one, the ever popular, Gilligan's Island: The Musical. There was a Grammy with Sir Paul for Rockestra, the first instrumental Grammy, and his solo arrangement of The Pink Panther Theme earned him a second Grammy. Laurence has played on innumerable hits, some he's found out about years later reading about them. He's an amazing man with incredible talents. This was a much-needed soul-filling reminder of all that's good and right with the world during troubled and turbulent times. He took us out with guitar perfection. “Cell division is fundamental to the growth of every living thing and when it goes wrong and is out of control this is the basis for all cancers and understanding this process is important,” explained Sir Paul Nurse. When it comes to understanding the fundamentals of cell division and the cancer connection, Sir Paul is a world-renowned expert and pioneer. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2001. In this podcast, he explained the ideas that sparked his ground-breaking research and how his findings gave scientists around the world the insight and tools they needed to develop advanced cancer therapeutics such as immunotherapy. Sir Paul is adept at explaining his work and the complexities of science in easy-to-understand language, combined with his keen intellect, modesty and a warm sense of humor. He's someone you will enjoy spending time with. As a young scientist, Sir Paul said he knew there would be a lot of ups and downs, and he was determined “to study something important and what is more fundamental than the process that is the basis of all growth … I didn't do this to cure cancer, but to understand the principles behind dividing cells and I thought by understanding this it would have implications for cancer and other diseases.” Sir Paul, director and chief executive of the Francis Crick Institute in London, was recently in Columbus as the recipient of the 26th Annual Herbert and Maxime Block Memorial Lectureship Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cancer. In addition to delivering a lecture, the Block Lectureship includes a mentor/mentee collaboration between Sir Paul and Li-Chun Tu, PhD, an Ohio State and OSUCCC-James assistant professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology. Dr. Tu joined the second half of this podcast, and described her work in genetics. Sir Paul and Dr. Tu look forward to working together. “I truly believe he will give me such good advice,” Dr. Tu said.
It's week 4 of Second Helpings, and this was one of our most memorable episodes yet! Question, how do you behave when you have a music icon on your podcast? Well, you have a massive fight in front of him of course! Aside from a small bout of bickering, we had lunch with Sir Paul and Mary McCartney and talked about 30 years of Linda McCartney's legacy in the vegetarian food market. We hear about Mary's adventurous childhood on tour with Wings, Paul talks about life after The Beatles and they share memories of becoming vegetarian with Linda cooking a macaroni turkey so Paul could carve something at Christmas. Lennie crowns them ‘the Vegeneers', Paul talks about his famous margarita cocktail ‘Maccarita' and explains the real way to eat Yorkshire puddings. He also offers us a step by step brief on how to make the perfect bagel, gives us a quick eye yoga lesson and reveals how the song Let It Be came about. We could have gone on forever!! Next week on Second Helpings it's chef week, and we're delving back into the archives for one of our very favourite foodie episodes... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
