Women and children were trampled to death outside the gates of the Kabul airfield. Desperate Afghans fell from the landing gear of departing planes. Taliban fighters mercilessly whipped and humiliated U.S. civilians trying to access the few square miles still controlled by American forces. Countless Afghan interpreters were abandoned to the mercy of the Taliban after risking their lives alongside American troops for years. And thirteen U.S. service members—eleven of whom were still in preschool on 9/11—were murdered in an ISIS suicide bombing that could easily have been prevented. Still, the full story is worse than anyone imagined. Drawing from hundreds of hours of first-person interviews, investigative reporter Jerry Dunleavy and former Army Captain and Afghanistan veteran James Hasson provide an exclusive, no-holds-barred account of the disastrous events of August 2021. Kabul is packed with shocking and infuriating exclusive details about fatal politics and bureaucracy that contributed to the catastrophe. The authors also tell, for the first time, inspiring stories of the bravery and sacrifices exhibited by countless Americans on the ground. Kabul's original reporting includes eyewitness accounts from servicemembers of all ranks who participated the rescue effort, inside information from senior intelligence officials, interviews with high-ranking members of allied governments, harrowing stories from Americans and Afghan allies willfully abandoned by craven officials in Washington, and exclusive details about veteran-led rescue missions that continue to this day. “Bagram Air Base had prisons there that were filled with thousands of ISIS-K fighters, as well as dozens of members of al-Qaeda, and thousands of Taliban fighters as well. And the United States abandoned Bagram on July 21.”In April 2021, President Joe Biden announced that in five months, on the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, U.S. troops would completely withdraw from Afghanistan. By the end of August, the Taliban was back in charge.“What happened in Afghanistan did not stay in Afghanistan, and the world became a more dangerous place,” says investigative journalist Jerry Dunleavy. He is co-author of the new book “Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End.”“You heard President Biden and many people around him continually saying throughout 2021 that the Afghan military was 300,000 strong, and that they could obviously therefore fight off a smaller Taliban force,” says Mr. Dunleavy. “This 300,000 figure was a complete fiction and was well known to be a fiction at the time.Mr. Dunleavy and I discuss President Biden's decision-making process with regard to the Afghanistan withdrawal, the other players involved, and why the media has, for the most part, lost interest in the story.“The Biden administration is not going to hold themselves accountable, obviously. Most of the mainstream media has no interest in holding Biden accountable. And so, the book is an effort at doing that—at holding Biden accountable for this disaster,” says Mr. Dunleavy.

President Biden ordered a total withdrawal from Afghanistan, where US troops had been stationed for 20 years. In a span of just a few hours, President Biden reversed decades of service---including over 2,000 American lives lost--- and left over 7 billion dollars in resources given to the Afghan people as almost instantaneously the Taliban ---the very enemy we had entered Afghanistan to eliminate--retook the country. This evil, anti-American, brutally misogynistic regime is back in the Middle East---supporting terrorism abroad and against its own people. August marks two years since President Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. No doubt you remember the images of Afghanis clinging to airplanes and falling to their deaths in desperate hopes of escaping the Taliban. You also remember that Americans were left behind despite Biden's promises to stay until they all got out. And none of us can forget the horrific terrorist attack at Abbey Gate that killed 13 American servicemembers, badly injured others, and killed or wounded hundreds of civilians. But there's so much more that you might not know. Today, Sara welcomes Jerry Dunleavy, an investigator with the House Foreign Affairs Committee, a former investigative reporter for the Washington Examiner, and co-author of the new book "Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End."Dunleavy explains how Biden was fully responsible for the timing of the withdrawal and made his decisions based on political considerations. He also details the stunning decision to shut down Bagram Air Base several weeks before the withdrawal and how that led to the release of many ISIS-K terrorists, including the one who perpetrated the deadly attack at Abbey Gate. Meanwhile, soldiers at the gate contend they spotted the terrorist moments before the attack but were denied permission to shoot him. This story is incredibly personal to Sara. Her husband was permanently blinded while serving in Afghanistan. They lost friends there. They worked around the clock to get Afghani friends out before the U.S. left Kabul permanently. And she knows the betrayal that so many military families feel. Aug. 15 marked two years since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan after a nearly two-decade war. For James Hasson, co-author of “Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End” and an Afghanistan veteran, seeing the Taliban takeover “was a punch in the gut.” “And I know for at least all the other Afghan veterans that I've spoken to, it was a similar punch in the gut for them, as well,” says Hasson, who rose to the rank of Army captain. “And especially then seeing the [Biden] administration repeatedly say that, ‘The Taliban were now our partners,' that they were being ‘businesslike and professional,' when of course this is the same Taliban that we just spent 20 years fighting.”“I lost people I know over there, or people I know passed away over there,” Hasson adds. “And a lot of other people in my circumstances who served there had the same kind of experience, and it's a very difficult thing to reconcile. And writing this book was an absolute honor, but it was difficult also to do, in part just to see that be absolutely whitewashed.”Hasson, together with co-author Jerry Dunleavy, an investigator for the House Foreign Affairs Committee, joins today's episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss their book, the No. 1 takeaway they want people to have after reading their book, and the 13 U.S. service members who were killed on Aug. 26, 2021, at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. We are two years since the greatest national humiliation since the Fall of Saigon almost half a century ago.The negotiated surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban, retreat to Kabul, and withdraw from Kabul under the grace of our enemy in the summer of 2021 remains a mostly untold story. Partially is it from the attention given to the Russo-Ukrainian War that started six months later, but it seems more a byproduct of disinterest by most of our press who seem to want to discuss almost anything else. Not any more. In to that gap is a superb book by our guest today from 5-6pm Eastern will be Jerry Dunleavy, co-authored with James Hasson; Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End If you want to know the road to the last plane out of Kabul, this is your book.Jerry is an investigative reporter who has focused on the Justice Department, the courts, the intelligence community, and the national security arena at the Washington Examiner for half a decade. He has published numerous groundbreaking stories of national importance, ranging from China's coverup of the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan to the FBI's atrocious mishandling of the Trump-Russia investigation. Corinne Ramey and James Fanelli of The Wall Street Journal write, “If Trump wins the next presidential election, he could attempt to pardon himself in any federal case or steer the Justice Department to retreat from Smith's charges. In Georgia, he would lack the ability to wipe away a state conviction or prison term. Even if Trump were to seek a state pardon, he wouldn't be eligible to do so until after serving a sentence for any conviction. In Georgia, any such pardon would be determined by a state board, not the governor.” You can read their full article here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/georgia-case-presents-unique-challenges-for-trumpand-prosecutors-4dd6ee37 According to a new report featured int the book “Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End”, the Biden Administration had two opportunities to prevent the suicide bombing at Kabul airport in Afghanistan.
On today's show, Mike Slater addresses the elephant in the room which is the fourth set of indictments against former U.S. President Donald J. Trump. How valid are these versus the rest and how much should you care about all of this in general? Slater then openly questions why anybody is running against Trump in the primaries and talks about what he sees as his biggest strength as a candidate. Following this, Jerry Dunleavy, the author of the new book "Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End", comes on-air to speak to Mike about the anniversary of America's botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and why we shouldn't let modern politics cloud what a disaster it all was in hindsight.
