Last night, Travis Jankowski hit his first home run of the season, and his first as a member of the Texas Rangers. Last year with the Mets, the speedy Jankowski, who has 82 stolen bases in his career, did not homer in 63 plate appearances, going 9-for-54 with three steals and 11 runs scored. He also didn't homer in his one plate appearance as a Mariner, last having gone deep on June 23, 2021, as a Phillie against Erick Fedde and the Nationals.Jankowski has hit as many as four home runs in a season, as his 2018 season with the Padres included a blast off Félix Hernández. Eight of Jankowski's now 10 career home runs came as a Padre — he didn't go deep in 16 games with the 2020 Reds, but did steal a base for them in the playoffs. The first time Jankowski homered? That was right after a couple in chicken and pig masks appeared on the broadcast of the Padres-Giants game on September 13, 2015.* Travis Jankowski hit his first home run off Mike Leake, 9/13/15* Mike Leake gave up his first home run to Andre Ethier, 4/22/10* Andre Ethier hit his first home run off Dewon Brazelton, 5/3/06* Dewon Brazelton gave up his first home run to Carlos Delgado, 9/13/02* Carlos Delgado hit his first home run off Dennis Cook, 4/4/94* Dennis Cook gave up his first home run to Lonnie Smith, 9/20/88* Lonnie Smith hit his first home run off Larry McWilliams, 7/25/80* Larry McWilliams gave up his first home run to Gary Carter, 7/28/78* Gary Carter hit his first home run off Steve Carlton, 9/28/74* Steve Carlton gave up his first home run to Doug Clemens, 4/19/65* Doug Clemens hit his first home run off Vern Law, 6/30/62* Vern Law gave up his first home run to Del Ennis, 6/11/50* Del Ennis hit his first home run off Claude Passeau, 5/5/46* Claude Passeau gave up his first home run to Mel Ott, 5/11/36* Mel Ott hit his first home run off Hal Carlson, 7/18/27* Hal Carlson gave up his first home run to Fred Merkle, 5/1/18* Fred Merkle hit his first home run off Patsy Flaherty, 6/23/08* Patsy Flaherty gave up his first home run to Jesse Burkett, 4/22/03* Jesse Burkett hit his first home run off Bill Hutchison, 6/23/90* Bill Hutchison gave up his first home run to Jake Beckley, 5/11/89* Jake Beckley hit his first home run off Lev Shreve, 5/6/89* Lev Shreve gave up his first home run to Roger Connor, 8/29/87Roger Connor, the career home run king before Babe Ruth with 138 from 1880-97 with the Troy Trojans, New York Gothams/Giants, Phillies, and St. Louis Browns (Cardinals), connects us to Brett Baty's home run chain. Becuase of My Podcast Twin Spin with Aaron Peterson 1:04  Aaron does a number of podcast including the Blacklist Exposed, Remake the Movie Right, Smirk, and the Hollywood Outsider Becuase of his podcast(s) Aaron was asked to Officiate the wedding of two listeners who met through the Hollywood Outsider podcast.  3:45 Aaron and his co-host Troy Heinritz (from the Black List Exposed) were one of six media companies asked to attend the 100th episode of the Black List Exposed.  Wavve, Audiogram and Sparemin Reviewed 6:33 There are tools that you can use to make a snippet of your podcast. These tools turn them into a video file to paste on social sites like Twiter, Facebook, and Instagram. This is not the first tool to be based on sharing audio snippets. Clammr was a tool intended for you to be able to easily create a clip and those clips were then easy to share. Clammr lasted about three years (2014-2017).  I had a lot of great press,  and was mentioned on a regular basis. Now a year later, other companies have come to fill the void. My scenario: I looked at the services for what I would use. I want four episode each with a different design.   Click Here to get a free video on how to use these tools   Headliner (Sparemin)   This is a free tool that allows you to make a video out of audio. In theory it can transcribe your audio. The few times I tried the transcription, it was pretty awful. It does give you the ability to have more than one image, as well as text. You can easily make a copy of a project and edit it to be new. There is an image search tool so you can find images to use in your video. BE SURE to read the terms of service as one of the services is Getty Images (who will take you to court for using their images if you didn't obtain a license. You can't beat the price (free). There are videos along the way to help you through the learning curve.   Audiogram  I liked that Audiogram actually gives you a live animated preview of your finished file. You didn't have to compile it and think, "Oh wait, I don't like that." You can see it before you turn it into a video. They have a bunch of premade designs. You have much more control over things like titles and positions of animations. You can even load an existing design from a previous movie to save time. Audiogram also shows your social sites (if you want) at the end of the video. These are not clickable. When you are done creating your video. you can download it or email it to your phone for easy sharing on Instagram. For me to do four videos a month would be $19. I can do two videos for free.     Wavve  Wavve the most set of elaborate tools. You can drag and drop exactly where you want things to appear. You have more fonts, etc. When you are done you can post your video to Facebook and Twitter right from your account (and like the others send the video to your phone for Instagram). Wavve does give the ability to do a few free videos per month (depending on the length). They have some video tutorials to walk you through the system. If you are looking to make super cool looking graphics, this is the tool. For my scenerio, it would cost $18/month       BUDGET CHOICE If you're looking for free, Sparemin/Headliner is free. While not as versatilscenarioll give you something to share.   Again for my scenario (4 shows a month, each video with a new design), Audiogram is $19 a month, and Wavve is $18   Different Features Audiogram has the ability to save your design choices and use them over and over.   Wavve has the ability to post to Facebook and Twitter right from your Wavve account   Sparemin has an image search capability (again, check their TOS)   You will see that you can turn these into a giant time suck choosing the right font, the right etc. If you have access to something that makes trackable links (pretty Link for Wordpress) you may want to use a special link with your Audiogram to see if it generates more clicks. The one thing missing (in my opinion) is stats on how many times the file was played.   What You Should Do Even If You Don't Use These Services What I like about these services is it makes you think. It makes you ask yourself, "What is THEY key clip that will make people want to hear more? What clip can I create to motivate people to come and listen." What I Didn't Get To Accomplish In Q1 of 2018 18:28 19:36 Bill Hutchison from YWAM podcast (and ywampodcast.net ) wanted to be a bit more consistent (but did get some things done) 21:49 Brad from We Are the Cinema Guys wanted to work on his calls to action 24:25 Sarah from the Podcastcard Academy wants to be a bit more organized (and now is using Asana, Dave loves todoist.com) 26:08 Max from Aviation News Talk meant to contact a conference but hasn't gotten around to it yet (but he will NOW) 27:42 Win Charles from Ask the Win meant to start a new podcast, but she did find an editor. 31:32 Zach from Rasing Rents (as in PArents) needs to get season two going. 35:29 Dave needs to get his inbox under control, and started off the year super focused, but has slid back to old habits. Last week I explained how I learned of a strategy from Doug Sandler of the Nice Guys on Business show where the goal is to bring on guests who would be a good client for you (assuming you're podcasting as part of your business). Doug's business is Turnkey Podcast. There is little focus on your audience and more emphasis on your guest. The presenter also requires that their potential guest subscribes, to their podcast and gives them a five-star review to be considered. This was the part that I thought was a little "black hat."  I wanted to reserve my judgment until I spoke with Doug. Today I have Doug Sandler on the show to share his insights into his strategy. Because Of My Podcast I'm Much Better at Public Speaking: Bill Huchison 1:45 Bill Hutchison is a full-time missionary and has a podcast  every now and then Bill is asked to speak in churches. Today Bill shares how he had to think on the fly when he hit a technical snag, anbecausese of his podcast he was able to pull it off.  Preparing for Episode 600 4:55 I'm doing an "Ask Dave Anything (except podcasting questions)" will be the topic for episode 600. Send in your questions (with the title Episode 600) by January 1st, 2018 Your Target Customer as Your Guest Part II Doug Sandler Interview 7:00 Feedback from last week's show In today's discussion you hear: 9:23 Doug did his podcast for 16 months without making a dime. He went from 20,000 downloads to 1.2 million in the second 16 months. His guests are his target clients How does his stop his guests from being boring? Why his potential guests MUST give him a five-star review and subscribe to the show Does having guests on your show ensure 1.2 million downloads? Doug didn't get into podcasting to make friends Summary: There are no rules in podcasting? Will I look into using my podcast to get clients? I already do. The whole point of the School of Podcasting is to exhibit my expertise, and show you I know how to create a show that engages your audience. I might try this strategy in the future and do something like Natalie Ectal from BizChix.com where she records coaching calls and uses them as episodes. While I force potential guests to subscribe, rate, and provide a five-star review? No. Where Is Dave Going? 35:09 Podcon in Seatle Dec 9-10 Podfest in Florida Feb 8-10 Social Media Marketing World  2/28- 3 /2 San Diego Fixing a Podcast Episode After Your Published It 36:07 There is nothing worse than waking up to an inbox full of emails from listeners letting you know there is a mistake in your latest episode. This could be silence, or an edit point that you thought you took out (but didn't). You panick. Oh No! What do I do? Here is what you do. Do NOT Create a New Episode If you're using Libsyn.com go to Content > Previously Published and edit the Episode. There you can use the replace option to upload the repaired version of the episode. I strongly suggest you use the exact same file name. This way you don't have to wait for your episode to propagate across the Internet. Your feed has the name of the file, and when someone who didn't download the episode with the mistake presses download, they get the repaired version. If you're using Blubrry, you can go into PowerPress and upload your repaired file (and it will replace the old file). Again, I strongly urge you to use the exact same file name. Who Gets the File? When someone gets the first (wrong) version of your file, the app they use doesn't know there is an issue. Consequently, the app won't download the new version (because to the app, it's the same file). But I Want Everyone to Get the New Version! The only way to have all of your audience to get new version is to create a completely new episode (and delete the old episode). This might annoy your subscribers (who typically are the people who get your episode first as it's automated). They may have already listened to and delete the episode, and then all the sudden here it comes again. What's the Best Solution? The best solution is to ALWAYS listen to the ENTIRE episode before uploading it to your media host. In other words, the best way to fix the mistake is to not make it in the first place. With that in mind, we are all human and it will happen. I personally just replace the old version and if someone tells me about the mistake I apologize to them and explain they now have a collectors edition. How Can I Help You Need one on one conslting?
