Discovering Your Gifts Part 8:The Gifts of Apostleship and Evangelist 1 Corinthians 12:27-31 Ephesians 4:11What if the secret to experiencing the fullness of God in your life is just waiting for you to receive it? In this week's sermon, I will highlight a profound encounter between the Apostle Paul and believers in Ephesus, where he asks, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" This pivotal moment invites reflection on the power that believers can access beyond mere belief—specifically, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In my sermon, I passionately argue for a distinction between initial faith and this empowering experience, encouraging believers to embrace what Jesus promised: a continual outpouring of divine presence. With a call to action, the sermon urges everyone to earnestly seek this promised gift, admonishing that surrendering to the Holy Spirit is not just for the chosen few but for all who are desperate for change and renewal. Are you ready to embrace this challenge and unlock the gifts of apostleship and evangelism in your life? This is your moment to seek, to believe, and to receive!-----------------------------------------------------------------This Sunday, many people will start returning to church from a busy summer. For most, school has started back, and routines are under way. Is attending church really that important? Sharing in fellowship and worship fosters the spiritual growth that a solitary faith practice often cannot fully provide. Attending church is more than a ritual; it enriches our walk with God and strengthens our connection to a community of believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Being part of a church family offers opportunities for mutual encouragement, accountability, and spiritual edification. When we gather to worship, whether singing praises, studying scripture, or simply sharing life, we create a space where God's presence dwells. This collective experience of God transforms our lives in ways that private worship cannot replicate.Beyond personal growth, church attendance equips us to live out our faith more meaningfully. Listening to sermons, participating in service projects, and engaging in small groups broaden our understanding of God's word and encourages us to apply it. We are reminded that faith, while personal, is never meant to be private. Acts 2:42 illustrates the early church's model, saying, "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Life is not without struggles, and the community formed in church provides strength when we are weary. Joining others in prayer and worship fosters hope and resilience. Galatians 6:2 urges us to "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Such shared faith experiences shape us profoundly, reminding us that we are never alone. Attending church deepens our relationship with God and with others. It is a source of renewal and encouragement, enabling us to persevere in faith and extend God's love to the world. I hope and pray that you make gathering with your church family a priority as you continue growing in Him.Grace and Peace,Stephen

Why does Jesus make such bold promises to those devoted to His Sacred Heart—like turning “tepid souls” into “fervent” ones? In this episode, Jess sits down with Fr. Joe Laramie, SJ, director of the Sacred Heart Retreat Center in Sedalia and former director of the Apostleship of Prayer, to explore how this centuries-old devotion speaks directly to the heart of the missionary.Whether you're feeling spiritually dry, fervent, or somewhere in between, the Sacred Heart offers a deeply personal call to renewal.Jess and Fr. On this week's programme we dip into the archive to share our discussion from June 2019 with Fr. Donal Neary S.J., then Editor of The Sacred Heart Messenger, who speaks to us about the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and about The Sacred Heart Messenger. In part one we have our regular run through the liturgical odds and ends of the coming week including the saints of the week.In part three we reflect on the gospel of the Sunday which of course is that for the wonderful feast of Corpus Christi which in Ireland has been transferred from the Thursday to the Sunday. We have Luke's account of miracle of the feeding of the 5,000; one of the few miracle stories in all four gospels. Devotion to the Sacred HeartThis year marks the 350th anniversary of the appearance of Jesus to Sr Margaret Mary with the message to share about his Sacred Heart. We revisit our chat withh Fr Donal who reflects on the devotion to the Sacred Heart which goes back to the scene at Calvary when a sword pierced the Heart of Jesus. From the 17th Century the devotion to the Sacred Heart became more widespread after Sr Margaret Mary Alacoque had visions where Jesus showed her is heart that beats for everyone and loves everyone of us. The devotion to the Sacred Heart was very much part of people's lives when they were unable to attend Mass. Fr Donal speaks of the Sacred Heart as that of a friend. Both the 1st Friday devotion & the ‘Holy Hour' came about as a result of devotion to the Sacred Heart.Fr Donal also spoke to us about the Sacred Heart Messenger of which he was the editor. In 1858 Fr James Cullen started an ‘Apostleship of prayer' magazine and from this beginning the Sacred Heart Messenger came about. With a monthly circulation of 45,000 copies, 80% of which sold through promoters, the magazine contains inspirational articles which support readers on their faith journey. Galatians 1:1-5 June 8, 2025 Sunday Morning Service
This week wraps up our spring series on spiritual gifts, and Kathryn finishes up with three powerful Word Gifts: apostleship, teaching, and exhortation. Rooted in Ephesians 4, we take a look at what these gifts are (and what they aren't), how they function in the life of the Church, and how they're meant to build up the body of Christ—not as titles or ranks, but as ways we serve one another in love. If you've ever felt called to start something new, to open God's Word and help others understand it, or to speak truth that lifts and steadies people's faith, you may have been given one of these gifts! Listen in as we close out our spring together!
In this Bible study we examine the spiritual work of an Apostle. We note this gift which has been appointed as the most important spiritual gift in the Bible. We will see how this gift is used and the spiritual aspect of deploying it.You may wish to check out some of the studies we have on Apostleship to help you understand more practical aspects. Please also consider supporting the besieged people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
When fishermen set sail, Deacon Marlowe Sabater says, they place one foot on the deck—and the other, unknowingly, “in the watery grave, because you just won't know what's gonna happen out there.” Born and raised in Metro Manila, Marlowe now ministers to seafarers and port workers—many of them migrant workers from his native Philippines—through the Diocese of Honolulu's Apostleship of the Sea ministry. Facing unpredictable storms and countless dangers at sea, every safe return to shore, he says, is “an everyday miracle.” Marlowe is our guest on “Preach” for the Third Sunday of Easter. In his homily, he reflects on the Gospel story of the risen Christ meeting his disciples on the shore and connects it to the faith of those who work and live at sea today. In conversation with host Ricardo da Silva, S.J., Marlowe draws even further from his ministry—meeting workers at the docks to pray with them, to minister to them and to share the trust that sustains us all amid life's storms: “When Jesus is in our boat, he has the capability of calming the storm of our lives.” When he's not at the ambo, on the docks or behind a desk, Marlowe finds his anchor in family life with his wife, Maggie, and their two sons. He credits Maggie as his “editor in chief,” offering the honest feedback every preacher needs. “Sometimes she'll read my homily and say, ‘I don't feel it,'” he says. “And it's back to the drawing board—and she's always right.” Get daily Scripture reflections and support “Preach” by becoming a digital subscriber to America Magazine “Preach” is made possible through the generous support of the Compelling Preaching Initiative, a project of Lilly Endowment Inc. This Bible study session is led by Pastor Anthony Uvenio, who emphasizes the importance of prayer and invoking the Holy Spirit before studying the Scriptures. The study guide uses the letter P for steps, but not all steps are necessary every time, especially with Paul's letters. He highlights Paul's significant role in early Christianity, his conversion from persecutor to apostle, and his theological contributions through epistles to Titus and Timothy, known as the Pastoral Epistles. The lesson includes the qualifications for church elders, the concept of saints, and the importance of good works as evidence of true faith. Pastor Anthony contrasts the Roman Catholic process of canonization with Paul's definition of saints as believers set apart by God. #biblestudy #paultheapostle #titus #christianfaith #reformedtheology #goodworks #holyspirit #scripturestudy #faithandworks #spiritualgrowth 00:03:47 - Paul's Letters and Their Significance 00:07:20 - Conversion and Mission of Paul 00:09:36 - Steps for Effective Bible Study 00:10:49 - Paul's Epistles and Church Leadership 00:14:17 - Servant of the Lord Explained 00:18:14 - Paul's Apostleship and Miraculous Signs 00:21:58 - Understanding Apostles and Saints 00:25:51 - Roman Catholic Sainthood Process 00:29:58 - Critique of Canonization and Faith 00:44:31 - Speaker 4's Declaration of Faith Video: https://youtu.be/Iy9JnsIKUh0 www.ReformedRookie.com Podcast: https://anchor.fm/reformedrookie Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheReformedRookie Twitter: https://twitter.com/NYapologist Semper Reformanda!

October is the month of the Missions. Father talks about the Apostleship of prayer which he use to be a part of. Jesuit Seminarians learned that they could be missionaries by offering up their day for the people doing mission work in the world.
In this episode, we explore the crucial role of the Holy Spirit in empowering apostles, as exemplified in Acts 1:8. We'll discuss how the Spirit's indwelling presence equips apostles with the boldness, wisdom, and supernatural power necessary to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Acts 1:8: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." This verse underscores the transformative power of the Holy Spirit that enables apostles to fulfill their divine mandate. The role of the Holy Spirit in apostleship is foundational. It's through the Spirit's empowerment that apostles are equipped to face the myriad challenges of ministry and extend the kingdom of God across cultural and geographical boundaries. The Empowerment of the Holy Spirit for Apostles:* Supernatural Boldness: The Holy Spirit provides apostles with the courage to proclaim the gospel, even in the face of persecution or adversity.* Wisdom for Leadership: Apostles rely on the Spirit's wisdom to make complex decisions, solve problems, and provide godly leadership within the church.Living a Spirit-Led Life as an Apostle:* Constant Reliance: Apostles must continuously depend on the Holy Spirit, acknowledging that their strength and capability come from Him.* Spiritual Disciplines: Regular prayer, fasting, and study of the Scriptures are vital for maintaining a strong connection with the Holy Spirit.Practical Advice for Deepening the Relationship with the Holy Spirit:* Intentional Prayer Time: Set aside dedicated times for prayer where the focus is on listening and responding to the Holy Spirit's guidance.* Spiritual Mentorship: Seek mentorship and fellowship with other spirit-led leaders who can provide guidance, encouragement, and accountability.* Ongoing Education: Engage in continuous theological education and spiritual formation to deepen understanding and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's movements.ConclusionFor apostles, the indwelling Spirit is not merely an advantage; it is essential for effective ministry. Walking in the Spirit's fullness ensures that their work is not only sustained but also fruitful and aligned with God's will.A Question of the Day: What steps can you take today to deepen your relationship with the Holy Spirit to more effectively walk in your calling, whether in apostleship or another area of ministry?Growth Challenge: Commit to a 30-day journey of daily seeking the Holy Spirit's direction for specific aspects of your ministry. Document insights, changes, and breakthroughs that occur as you more intentionally walk in the Spirit's power.Let's Pray: Lord, we ask for Your Holy Spirit to fill us afresh, empowering us to fulfill the calling You have placed on our lives. Help us to rely fully on Your Spirit for wisdom, strength, and direction as we serve Your kingdom. May we be effective witnesses to Your love and power, from our neighborhoods to the nations. Amen.As we continue in our respective callings, let the Holy Spirit be our constant guide and strength. Embrace His presence daily, and let His power be manifest in all you do. In this episode, we explore the profound journey of obedience that accompanies the call to apostleship, inspired by Romans 1:5. We'll discuss the essential nature of obedience in the apostolic calling, the challenges and rewards that come with it, and the impact of such a calling on both personal and community levels. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Romans 1:5: "Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name's sake." This verse not only highlights the grace given for apostleship but also underscores the obedience required to fulfill this high calling.Apostleship is a calling that demands a profound level of obedience and faith. Those who are called to be apostles are often required to navigate challenging paths that lead to significant spiritual growth and kingdom expansion. The Importance of Obedience in Apostolic Calling:* Divine Commissioning: Apostles are often commissioned for specific tasks that require absolute dedication and commitment to God's directives, similar to biblical figures like Paul who were called to spread the gospel across diverse cultures.* Global Mission: The obedience of apostles has far-reaching effects, often impacting the spiritual life of communities and shaping the church's global mission.Challenges and Rewards of Apostolic Calling:* Challenges: Apostles may face misunderstandings, intense spiritual warfare, and the need to sacrifice personal comfort for the sake of their mission.
