Fight Laugh Feast Conference - Ark Encounter This year, our Fight Laugh Feast Conference is at the Ark Encounter in Kentucky on The Politics of Six Day Creation. The politics of six day creation is the difference between a fixed standard of justice and a careening standard of justice, the difference between the corrosive relativism that creates mobs and anarchy and the freedom of objectivity, truth, and due process. The politics of six day creation establishes the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word for all of life: from what is a man or a woman, when does human life begin, and how is human society best organized? Come hear Ken Ham, Pastor Doug Wilson, Dr. Ben Merkle, Dr. Gordon Wilson, me and more, and of course a live CrossPolitic show! Mark your calendars for October 11th-14th, as we fight, laugh, and feast, with beer & psalms, our amazing lineup of speakers, our Rowdy Christian Merch, and a Sabbath Feast to wrap up the occasion. Maybe an infant baptism while we’re at it! Visit fightlaughfeast.com for more information! https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/anniversary-roe-v-wade-being-overturned-gop-rep-promotes-bill-help-expectant On anniversary of Roe v. Wade being overturned, GOP Rep. promotes bill to help expectant mothers On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade being overturned, Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach promoted a proposed bill titled "The HOPE Act" that promotes helping expectant mothers. "It is crucial that women are supported when facing an unexpected pregnancy, which is why I have introduced The Health, Opportunity, Protecting Life, Education (HOPE) Act, which improves access to prenatal telehealth care, supports positive alternatives to abortion, and improves access to information for expectant mothers, providing tangible ways to help women feel confident during and beyond their pregnancy," Fischbach wrote in an opinion piece published by The Hill. On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion and allowing individual states to decide for themselves on whether to restrict or allow abortions. The HOPE Act would provide funding for grants and other activities related to maternal care. It would also establish informed consent and parental notification requirements for abortion providers. "The HOPE Act creates a pilot grant program to provide support and equipment like blood pressure monitors, scales, and portable fetal heart rate monitors to community health providers," Fischbach wrote. "Increasing telehealth options gives expectant mothers the flexibility they need to receive the care they deserve." It would also prohibit any government funding going to Planned Parenthood. https://www.foxnews.com/media/bud-light-sponsors-toronto-pride-parade-naked-men-children Bud Light sponsors Toronto Pride parade attended by naked men, children Bud Light is serving as an official sponsor of the Toronto Pride parade, where video footage shows naked men standing around and riding bicycles in clear view of children attending the event. The footage, captured by Beth Baisch of the Post Millennial, shows dozens of attendees riding past a large cheering crowd. The fully naked bikers, some covered in paint or tattoos, wave back at the crowd. One naked man high-fives an onlooker while another peddles a recumbent bike with a gold blow-up swan adorned around his neck. A second video shows a group of naked men with hats standing in a circle amidst the crowd. Several children walk past the group of men with their families. Another clip shows a person wearing a giant penis costume that covers his entire head. The camera captures a young girl sitting in a stroller and staring toward the phallic-costumed individual. Other videos show a group of naked men playing and rinsing themselves off alongside a fountain surrounded by kids. Meanwhile, a stage, clearly adorned with Bud Light branding, featured scantily clad dancers wearing fishnets, nipple stickers and strange sock-like masks. The company's website notes that this year's sponsorship is representative of a longstanding partnership with the Pride event. "Bud Light Canada has been a proud partner of Pride Toronto for the last 10 years. This year, we're commemorating this milestone with Pride Toronto by featuring them on our can design, as well as continuing as the official beer sponsor of the festival," the beer brand's website states. According to the website, Bud Light Canada also provides $100,000 to various organizations that support the LGBTQUA2S+ community across Canada and has created a range of commemorative Pride beer cans to celebrate the collaboration. The partnership comes nearly three months after Bud Light received massive backlash for partnering with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney. The decision angered consumers and the brand saw a significant decrease in sales, resulting in billions of dollars in lost market value. In early April, Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth attempted to douse the flames with a lengthy statement to customers. "We never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people. We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer," he said in part. "My time serving this country taught me the importance of accountability and the values upon which America was founded: freedom, hard work and respect for one another. As CEO of Anheuser-Busch, I am focused on building and protecting our remarkable history and heritage." Despite losing business, Bud Light continued to anger customers for co-sponsoring an "all-ages Pride event" in Flagstaff, Arizona, on June 17. The party, called "Pride in the Pines," included drag queens and other performers, and listed Bud Light as one of the companies sponsoring the June 17 event. (Bud Light was initially mentioned prominently in one of the posters.) The event is listed as a "family festival event" and a family-friendly, "safe space" for all visitors. https://www.foxnews.com/us/colorado-springs-club-q-nonbinary-shooting-suspect-pleads-guilty-murder-charges Colorado Club Q 'nonbinary' shooter sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder Club Q shooting suspect Anderson Lee Aldrich was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder and attempted murder charges during an arraignment hearing Monday morning, avoiding the prospect of a public trail just seven months after the deadly Colorado attack. Aldrich, who public defenders have said identifies as nonbinary and prefers to be described using they/them pronouns, is accused of fatally shooting five people and wounding 17 others at the LGBTQ+ nightclub Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Nov. 19, 2022. The suspect, whom the judge referred to as "Mx. Aldrich" during Monday’s arraignment hearing, accepted a plea agreement for a life sentence without the possibility of parole in exchange for pleading guilty to five counts of first-degree murder. Aldrich also pleaded guilty Monday to 46 counts of attempted murder in the first degree. The suspect pleaded no contest to felony and misdemeanor charges of bias-motivated crimes. "Because of the evidence presented I believe there is a high probability of being convicted at trial to those counts, and so I am pleading no contest or nolo contendere," Aldrich told the court Monday, explaining the no contest plea. In an interview from jail, Aldrich reportedly admitted to The Associated Press to being on a "very large plethora of drugs" and abusing steroids at the time, expressing regret for the attack and adding that suggesting the shooting was motivated by hate was "completely off base." In court hearings earlier this year, law enforcement testified that Aldrich ran a neo-Nazi website and used gay and racial slurs while gaming online, while the defense countered that Aldrich's sometimes abusive mother forced the suspect to frequent LGBTQ+ clubs. Two veterans out at Club Q reportedly helped thwart the attack by disarming Aldrich, who was beaten by patrons and displayed a bruised and bloodied face in his initial mugshot and court appearance. Aldrich was facing more than 300 state counts, including murder and hate crimes. The Justice Department is also considering pursuing federal hate crime charges, according to a senior law enforcement official who spoke to the AP. However, the charges against Aldrich were thrown out in July 2022 after Aldrich's mother and grandparents, the victims in the case, refused to cooperate with prosecutors, evading efforts to serve them with subpoenas to testify, according to court documents unsealed after the shooting. Other relatives told a judge they feared Aldrich would hurt the grandparents if released, painting a picture of an isolated, violent person who did not have a job and was given $30,000 that was spent largely on the purchase of 3D printers to make guns, the records showed. Aldrich was released from jail then and authorities kept two guns -- a ghost gun pistol and an MM15 rifle – seized in the arrest. But there was nothing to stop Aldrich from legally purchasing more firearms, raising questions immediately after the shooting about whether authorities should have sought a red flag order to prevent such purchases. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/nearly-half-bee-colonies-died-2023 Nearly half of honey bee colonies died in 2023 after three tumultuous years From April of last year to April of this year, 48% of honey bee colonies prematurely died off. University of Maryland and Auburn University have collaborated with nonprofit Bee Informed to track and report on managed bee colonies every year since 2007. Last year saw losses of 48%, the previous year’s loss was 39%, and the year before that, it was 50.8%. The average loss over the last 12 years is 39.6%. The cause of these losses is a mix of the parasitic mite, varroa destructor, which helps spread viruses between bees, increased use of pesticides, which inhibit the bee's ability to stave off diseases, and dramatic changes in the environment. When it becomes warmer than usual during the winter, bees will leave their colonies to begin pollinating many of the crops we eat, as well as other plants, but when the weather chills again, the bees die off. Still, the most commonly reported cause of death during the winter was the varroa. During the rest of the year, the most common report revolved around issues with the queen bee. "High levels of losses do not necessarily result in a decrease in the total number of colonies managed in the United States because beekeepers can replace lost colonies throughout the year," the report read. This report comes from a self-reported survey of 3,006 beekeepers from across the United States who collectively manage 314,360 colonies, the majority of which are commercially operated. This is only 12% of the estimated 2.70 million managed honey-producing colonies in the country in 2022, per the report. The collaboration, known as "the Bee Informed Partnership," is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving honey bee colony health in particular. https://www.conservativereview.com/unable-to-rely-on-wind-and-solar-sweden-ditches-100-renewable-target-and-bets-big-on-nuclear-power-2661896744.html Unable to rely on wind and solar, Sweden ditches 100% renewable target and bets big on nuclear power The Swedish parliament determined last week that in order to ensure the country has a "stable energy system," it will have to abandon its goal of "100 per cent renewable electricity production by 2040." To satisfy electricity demand, which is set to double to around 300 TwH by 2040, Sweden's right-of-center government announced June 20 that it would instead lean more heavily on nuclear energy and subsidize the construction of new nuclear plants — plants green-lit in 2016 but sidelined for fear they would be too expensive, reported Reuters. The country, home to just over 10.5 million people, presently has three nuclear plants with six nuclear reactors in commercial operation. The state-owned Vattenfall aims to bring the tally up to eight reactors and refurbish extant facilities. While Sweden's heightened nuclear focus is consistent with the country's commitment to shifting entirely off fossil fuels in a way that doesn't altogether cripple the nation, this bullishness on carbon-free nuclear power represents a significant about-face on atomic energy, which the country decided in a 1980 referendum to phase out. Swedish support for nuclear energy is presently at a record high of 56%, up from 42% in 2022, reported Bloomberg. The jump in support has been attributed in part to the energy crisis that overwhelmed Europe in concert with the invasion of Ukraine and the revelation that renewable energies are not tenable as alternatives. A 2021 study published in the journal Nature Communications indicated, "If future net-zero emissions energy systems rely heavily on solar and wind resources, spatial and temporal mismatches between resource availability and electricity demand may challenge system reliability." The researchers indicated that "the most reliable renewable electricity systems are wind-heavy and satisfy countries' electricity demand in 72-91% of hours ... Yet even in systems which meet >90% o demand, hundreds of hours of unmet demand may occur annually." These lost hours could prove too dear in a country where temperatures routinely drop below freezing several months out of every year. Even the former energy minister for the defeated leftist Social Democratic Party, was cognizant of the country's strained energy situation, warning last August of "strains on the power system this winter," both in terms of outages and high prices. The U.S. Department of Energy indicated that nuclear energy is the most reliable energy source on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Each nuclear reactor typically produces the same amount of power as 431 utility-scale wind turbines or 3.1 million solar panels. According to the Swedish government, roughly 75% of its electricity comes from hydroelectric (43%) and nuclear (31%) power. 16% of the electricity comes from wind power. Approximately 9% comes from combined heat and power plants, largely powered by biofuels. Solar energy has yet to crack 1% of total supply. Finance Minister Elisabeth Svan-tesson of the Moderate Party said, "We need more electricity production, we need clean electricity and we need a stable energy system." Since wind and solar won't cut it, "This creates the conditions for nuclear power," said Svantesson.

Guest: Sherwin Modeste, executive director of Pride Toronto Toronto's Pride festival is up against some financial challenges this year. Organizers say rising costs of necessary security and policing, paired with quadrupled insurance premiums, have resulted in desperate calls to three levels of government for help and the possibility of cutting back on programming. While Trudeau's government delivered Pride Toronto a reprieve of about $250,000 from a $1.5 million Canada-wide grant, executive director Sherwin Modeste says the organization remains very tight. He joins “This Matters” to talk about the challenge and why their events must not scale back in an era of rising hate. This episode was produced by Paulo Marques and Brian Bradley. Welcome to Reimagining Company Culture, a series discussing emerging trends and priorities shaping the future of workplace culture and employee wellbeing. We highlight thought leaders who are constantly evolving their strategy and can provide insight to folks about how to address new business challenges. In this episode of Reimagining Company Culture, we're chatting with Olivia Nuamah, National Inclusion, Diversity, and Belonging Leader at PwC Canada. This prevents company leadership from making necessary changes, and prevents people from feeling fulfilled, recognized, and included at work. At AllVoices, we want to change that by providing a completely safe, anonymous way for people to report issues directly to company leaders. This allows company leadership real transparency into what's happening in their companies—and the motivation to address issues quickly. Our goal is to help create safer, more inclusive companies.

Take a listen to today's episode; Che had the most beautiful opportunity to speak, laugh and cry with international producer and professional DJ Cozmic Cat. At the beginning of the pandemic, DJ Coz lost most of her work and her eighteen-year-old dog KALI passed away. The pandemic challenged her on every level, identity, passion and livelihood. She unplugged entirely from social media and gave herself a time out from the world until her Partner and opportunity pulled her out of a depressive funk. She needed space to grieve the loss of so many things and then rebuild. She also knew that she needed help to process the changes and the losses. Coz began to reach out to DJ's close to home and internationally, slowly exploring and experimenting; she refused to become irrelevant. And it was an opportunity from Pride Toronto that inspired her to create a mission to live stream, reconnect to her audience, and grow a new audience. She felt inspired to produce new music and expand into the podcast space producing shows for other Creators. Her path has never been a straight line, she has always had to carve out space for herself, and the pandemic didn't change that; it just showed her a depth and loss that she had not experienced before, but she met it with ingenuity, perseverance and hope. So take a listen and see if her story relates to your experience going through the pandemic. Then, share the episode and tell us what you think. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chemarvilleletstalk/message

Growing up in a country where homosexuality was illegal and being forced to leave the country, and now experiencing not only homophobia but racism and Islamaphobia, is clearly challenging. Today is a special bonus episode to commemorate and contextualize the 40 years since Brent Hawkes' went on a 25-day hunger strike in protest of the Bathhouse Raids, which was the second largest mass arrest in Canadian history. On February 5th, 1981, police arrested hundreds of men at gay bathhouses in the city, brutalizing them and causing thousands of dollars in property damages. The city erupted immediately in protest and a new LGBTQ movement was born with it. I spoke with Brent and asked him about what gave rise to these protests, the immediate aftermath, and the trajectory of the raids in conjunction with Black Lives Matter and calls for racial justice within the queer community. There are many helpful resources to learn more about this: Track Two: Enough is Enough is a groundbreaking documentary about the raids, which is available on Xtra Magazine's YouTube channel. Professor Rinaldo Walcott wrote up a piece. called "Black Lives Matter, police and Pride: Toronto activists spark a movement" for The Conversation and it's a great introduction to the protests. This is a longer video of the Pride shutdown, where Black Lives Matter Toronto issues their demands. It is horrifying to watch as the crowd boos the protestors. This is an academic investigation into the media discourse surrounding how queerness is situated as White: Queer inclusion precludes (Black) queer disruption: media analysis of the Black lives matter Toronto sit-in during Toronto Pride 2016. I mentioned the activists Sandy Hudson (https://twitter.com/sandela), Syrus Marcus Ware (https://twitter.com/TrudoLemmens), Janaya Khan (https://twitter.com/janaya_khan) and Alexandria Williams. Credit for Audio: Track Two: Enough is Enough by filmmakers Harry Sutherland, Gordon Keith and Jack Lemmon, which has a fascinating history. It's time for another episode of the 4 AM Report, and folks - we're halfway through 2020! Woohoo!!
Think Queerly Discussion with Olivia Nuamah & Jeffrey IovannonePride will always be political so long as it continues to exist. Pride, as a celebration, because it is celebrated, is a priori political because of its origins. Even to those to whom Pride only seems a big party, the nature and existence of Pride is dependent upon its foundations as a political movement. There are multiple intersections of inequalities, systemic norms, laws, attitudes, and ideologies which demonstrate that it’s never a single issue that is the cause of prejudice, bigotry, and racism.Covid-19 has shown us the volatility and impermanence of everything we thought to be constant by disrupting our lives and society. As Jack Kornfield said in his recent podcast, “If you don't grow in love through the pandemic, somehow suffering will have won."Throughout this episode, we examine deeply and with great vulnerability the potential paradigm shift that’s happening in real-time, right now, about engaging with open and honest dialogue to make the space we inhabit a better one for Black People and how we can make that better still for People of Colour who are part of LGBTQ+ communities."The legacy and complexity of the problems of marginalization we seek to solve started well before Black Lives Matter and their protest during the parade in 2016.” — Olivia NuamahClick here to for the complete show notes and links to resources and articles:https://darrenstehle.com/reconfiguring-pride-to-savour-black-lives/

Why Black Lives Matters was right: Uniformed Police have no place at Pride. Imagine watching the Pride Parade on a gorgeous, sunny, summer day in Toronto, 2016. You’re smiling, laughing, and feeling part of something bigger than yourself, celebrating love and diversity marching down Yonge Street in Toronto. Suddenly you hear whistles and a voice on a bull horn shouting demands. A group of people calling themselves Black Lives Matters (BLM) stops the entire Toronto Pride Parade by sitting down on the hot asphalt on Yonge Street, halting the parade for about 45 minutes. Why did this happen and why does this matter? Black Lives Matters had many demands that had to do with safety, diversity, representation, and inclusion. They were tired of waiting for Pride Toronto to make things better. Their biggest demand was for Pride Toronto to deny uniformed police to participate in the next year’s Pride – be that marching, being on a float, or having a table at the Pride Street Festival while in uniform. This week, Doug Ford, the Premiere of Ontario stated that he will not attend Toronto Pride this year until uniformed officers are allowed to participate. The problem with this statement is based in Ford’s bias, prejudice, political posturing, and a complete lack of awareness of his privilege as a white, straight, rich man who has never suffered injustice for freely expressing his identity. Today’s episode is not for those easily offended. I hold nothing back, I’m highly critical, but more importantly, I get to the root of the problem and explain why it’s still important that uniformed police not be allowed to attend Toronto Pride – and what LGTBQ members of the police "force" can do to feel included at Pride. Dive Deeper into this social justice issue: Listen to the ON Point with host, Alex Pierson, in which she interviews Shaun Proulx: Premier Doug Ford will not attend the Toronto Pride parade. Read this excellent opinion piece by Joey Viola, SOCIETY :: Black Lives Matter – Toronto Pride 2016 Correction In the episode, I mistakenly state that Rob Ford always used the excuse that he would not attend Toronto Pride because of his annual Ford Nation BBQ. That was, in fact, held at a different time. Ford never attended Pride based on the excuse that he and his family would be at their cottage during Pride weekend. Image credit: Tension by Loozrboy

The markings must be of specific dimensions to prevent obliteration of the data and allow for tracing." "With tracing, firearms are matched to existing records. However, the utility of the existing Regulations has been diminished by the destruction of the long-gun registry (i.e. the destruction of approximately 90% of records for firearms in Canada) and the absence of record-keeping requirements for businesses." "The efficiencies of tracing are realized when a record of the most recent legal owner can be linked to a specific combination of information (serial number, name of manufacturer, etc.), which is marked on the firearm. Consequently, the requirements of the existing Regulations are not sufficient to uniquely identify the legal owner of the firearm in order to facilitate tracing." "The deferral of the coming into force of the Regulations permits the Government of Canada to continue developing amendments to the Regulations so that they achieve their intended purpose of enabling the tracing of crime guns by law enforcement agencies. Over the course of the next 24 months, a marking regime will be developed in order to improve the effectiveness of the Regulations." Problems with police participation in Queer pride parades are happening in many cities around the world. One of those cities is Toronto. in 2016 Pride Toronto banned police marching in the parades that were held in 2017 and 2018. Next year, Police will be welcomed back for the 2019 parade. To discuss how this all happened Andrew Whiteside interviews Olivia Nuamah who is the current Executive Director of Pride Toronto. UPDATE 24 January 2019. The membership of Pride Toronto has voted by a very narrow majority to ban the police from future parades. Details on this can be read here: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/toronto/article-toronto-pride-votes-by-tiny-margin-against-allowing-police-to/?fbclid=IwAR0rihlGkY-ZJx87NMwef9RQEWLipLnEK2SpXWg5Lf9gkchNBlDGZnrMCew

Orlando City’s start under James O’Connor went a lot like its ending under Jason Kreis and its limbo period under Bobby Murphy — with a lopsided loss. However, the final score masks what was an Orlando side with a bit of a different energy and points looked very much a possibility until an overturned City goal, with a couple late cosmetic tallies padding the result. We’re here to dissect that game, “the call,” and the team overall. Plus, the Pride’s win over Washington, their upcoming road trip, and some former OCSC player news. Lions Assistant Coach Daniel Byrd stops by after his first week with the club and tells us about working with James O’Connor, the team’s first game, how the new staff will right the ship, and more. Finally, we’ve got our weekly mailbag segment, in which we get the band back together! (Sort of, anyway.) Plus a look ahead at Orlando City vs. Toronto FC, with our predictions and key match-ups. If there’s something you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Here’s how show No. 133 went down: 0:12- The Lions lost again. But it did look like some things were at least a little more cohesive. Our breakdown and MotM picks and our Pride-Spirit recap. 37:47- Daniel Byrd was kind enough to stop by and talk to us about his role with JOC’s staff and the new gaffer’s funny clothes designed to prevent sunburn. This episode is all about my feelings about Pride when you are disabled. I share some of my experiences in Prides in 2018, and my issues with the organizational exclusion of disability by Pride orgs. I focus in on Pride Toronto and how we can do better. I also talk about some super ableist incidents that happened to disabled people during pride including Stonewall and Flaming Saddles Weho in LA. I also coin the term "bahcumbug" in this episode.
So often as performers we look at our careers as if it is in someone else hands. Waiting to book the job, to be validated, to receive a glowing review to help raise our profile in the industry. Theatre Artist Ryan G. Hinds is joining the conversation on Cue To Cue today and he is busting a few myths and addressing mindset gaps that performers, including himself, can fall into from time to time. When Ryan said these four words, “ My career. My terms.” I was waiting for confetti to fall from the ceiling, music to start playing, and Bob Barker to appear saying, “Tell him what he has won, Rod!” Ryan hits the nail on the head. It is our responsibility as artists to get out there and create. Stop waiting for the phone to ring. Get educated on what you need to know about this business, the craft, so as to not be taken advantage of and get going! I was inspired by Ryan and I know you will be too! In this episode: How to avoid becoming all consumed by the biz Why having a mentorship The questions Chita Rivera asked him that helped him shaped the way he looked at his career How his one-man Cabaret grew from a one-time performance to in internationally toured Cabaret. Why you MUST learn to not take things personally in this business! How to be humble without it getting in the way of allowing yourself to shine! A little about Ryan: Ryan G. Hinds is a Toronto-based theatre artist: actor, singer, dancer, writer, director, producer, curator. Currently, he is an Associate Artist at lemonTree Creations and an Artscape Launchpad Ambassador. He is the 2018 of the Stage West - Canadian Actor’s Equity Emerging Artist Award, and he recently played Brit in the North American Regional Premier of We Will Rock You (Magnus Theatre). Notably, Ryan is one of only a few people to have been in both the movie version (as a Hed-head) and a stage production (as Hedwig, becoming the first black actor to play the role) of Hedwig & the Angry Inch. His solo show #KanderAndEbb" has toured internationally to critical and audience acclaim, winning the BroadwayWorld Award for Best Cabaret/Solo Concert and playing to a packed house at legendary venue Don't Tell Mama in New York City. In 2015 his show "Starry Notions" was a Toronto Fringe Festival hit, recognized with several 'Best of Fringe' and 'Outstanding Performance' citations. From 2014 to 2016, Ryan was an Artist-In-Residence at Buddies in Bad Times (the world’s largest and oldest LGBTQ theatre complex). His other theatre work includes assisting director Brendan Healy on Anusree Roy’s Little Pretty & the Exceptional at Factory Theatre; the original company, remount, and subsequent tour of lemonTree Creations’ dance-theatre hybrid “MSM [ men seeking men]”; and creating and performing ”MacArthur Park Suite: A Disco Ballet” with Nicole Rose Bond. As a writer, Ryan served as Editor of CrewMagazine.com, and for 5 years, his column “Toronto at Night” was a popular feature of the newspaper Xtra!. His popular live talk show ran for a year and a half at the Flying Beaver, and he is the former curator of the weekly queer performance salon Granny Boots at the Gladstone Hotel. In this episode, Filmmaker Matthew McLaughlin talks about identity and masculinity. Born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, Matthew McLaughlin learned early on that his strengths lied in the arts and the creation process. After attending the University of Guelph where he majored in theatre studies, and minored in studio arts, Matthew ventured to Toronto and landed his first job with a television production company. It was there that he learned the inner workings of the television industry. After being encouraged to attend development meetings and being coached on the pitching process, Matthew began writing concepts of his own. With great guidance and encouragement from others, Matthew stepped into the director's chair, making his ideas come to life in a moving frame. In 2010 Matthew started Bulldog Productions, a full service production company specializing in commercial campaigns, documentaries, and short films. Among the many hats he wears he is a copywriter, director, producer, director of photography, and editor. For larger productions he has a team of highly skilled professionals that he works with so that his focus can remain on directing and concept development. Since the launch of Bulldog Productions, Matthew's extensive client list has grown to include: COVERGIRL Cosmetics, Samsung, Kobo, FLARE Magazine, Scotiabank, RBC, HELLO Canada Magazine, MUCH Music, IKEA Canada, Bacardi, The Movember Foundation, The AIDS Committee of Toronto, Egale Canada, Pride Toronto, World Pride,GREENSPACE, Rainbow Railroad and Graydon Skincare just to name a few. With the recent addition of aerial videography, Matthew will be able to take Bulldog Productions to new heights in the years to come. Check out Matthew's website: http://bulldogproductions.ca/
