In this final episode of the BizChix podcast, I have exciting news to share. While this marks the end of the BizChix podcast after 124 months and 627 episodes, I'm thrilled to announce a new venture: The Biz of Nonprofit Consultants podcast, launching today. This new podcast is dedicated to consultants who serve nonprofit clients, a project I've been developing since November 2023. I'm also shifting my group coaching program and mastermind to exclusively support nonprofit consultants starting in August 2024. These program changes happened more rapidly than I expected and have involved immense mindset work and mindset shifts in the last 6 weeks. In this final BizChix episode, I share about the incredible experiences I have had over the last 10+ years, how this podcast, connecting with you and working with you has changed my life. I'm especially grateful to Elizabeth Cook who has joined me more times than I can count as a co-host of the podcast and who has been an incredible coach alongside me in my programs. This new podcast (and many other ideas I have had over the years) would not come to life without Tiffanie Smith who literally burned the midnight oil to make this all happen. Thank you so much T! Of course I couldn't leave without sharing SIX business lessons that I hope will help as you continue to build your service business.
In this episode of "Ask the Podcast Coach," we dive into the nuances of adding enhanced content like slides to your YouTube videos. I discuss with Jim the evolving landscape of podcasting, the tricky transition from hobby to business, and the balance needed when offering personalized coaching. We also touch on the significance of community-driven podcasting and the essence of constructive feedback. Additionally, we share our personal experiences with website migration and the tribulations of various hosting platforms. As always, we celebrate our supporters in our "wheel o' names" segment, encourage listener engagement, and humorously banter about everything from pizza pilgrimages to tight jeans, all while anticipating next week's exciting insights. The hardest thing to rebuild is trust. For many clients, I am not the first coach they've had. And more often than I'd like, I've heard other coaches and programs described as, “feeling like a waste of money,” or that the program was, “too big and you never got time with the lead coach.” They have lost trust in the coaching community–and rightfully so. Thankfully, not all coaches are the same. Today, Elizabeth Cook, my co-coach in $ix Figures Lab, joins me as we talk about what to look for in a coaching program, the questions you should ask when looking at a new program, and how our $ix Figures Lab program differs from most other programs on the market.

My friends, what if I told you that you could eliminate the stress and hassle of creating multiple proposals for a client – decreasing your initial leg work and increasing your odds of signing the client? We've all been told to offer two or three proposal options and that presenting any more will overwhelm your potential client. The truth is between life, business, and social media, we are inundated with decisions all day long. And this decision fatigue can leave us tired, brain-dead, or in a fog, wanting and waiting for someone else to make a choice for us. Now – what if you could listen to your client's needs and co-create the perfect proposal, in real time – effectively eliminating the need for multiple proposals? Today, I'm joined by our $ix Figures Lab Coach, Elizabeth Cook, as we explore the One Option Proposal – how it works and why you should consider it for your next potential client.

Have you ever had a friend or peer describe their business in such a clear and succinct way that you immediately knew who they should meet in your network – either as a potential client or a beneficial connection? That, my friend, is what I like to call an, "automatic yes." When you specialize by the type of work you do, and/or niche by defining who you serve, you become instantly referable. Which is exactly where we want to be. Getting there sometimes isn't quite as straightforward. It often takes a series of small experiments to narrow in on the who and the what, and that can be frightening. On today's episode, $ix Figures Lab Coach Elizabeth Cook and I discuss the scary side of positioning and the mindset adjustments we can make to embrace experimenting – letting us flourish, both in business, and in life.
The BizChix Podcast: Female Entrepreneurs | Women Small Business | Biz Chix
What if you could make your business easier by implementing one strategy? I'm talking about positioning. This means specializing by the type of work you do and/or niching by who you do it for. When you position your business well, you will be able to streamline your services, and you will attract higher level clients. On today's episode, $ix Figures Lab Coach Elizabeth Cook and I will talk about how positioning can have a “waterfall impact” on your business. And you'll learn the top 3 reasons positioning is worth your time.

I recently had several one-on-one calls with clients, where we discussed how critical it is to create and maintain momentum in their business. The last thing you want is to be in a vulnerable place in your business, where you lose a big client, or have several clients not renew at once, or have several proposals get declined, and have no one else in your pipeline. I recently recorded a live training into our $ix Figures Lab group coaching program, where I share the ways I observe business owners losing momentum, and several ways to gain momentum. I decided this is something I wanted to share with all of you that are listening and who are a part of our BizChix community.

Adulting is hard. Turns out this is more than just a funny meme. Adulting really is hard. And many business owners have been expressing the same sentiment. Being a CEO is hard. There's no one who can make business decisions for you. On today's episode $ix Figures Lab Coach Elizabeth Cook and I will talk about the very real pressures of being a business owner. You'll learn how your struggles in business mirror your struggles in your personal life, the two areas that drain your emotional and mental resources the most, and why you need a safe space to discuss your business challenges.

What do you think of when you hear the term passive income? The idea is incredibly appealing, and the marketing messages used to sell it are extremely persuasive. Imagine a steady stream of income filling your bank account on autopilot, while you relax on a tropical beach or sleep in your own bed. That's every business owner's dream, right? On today's episode $ix Figures Lab Coach Elizabeth Cook and I will talk about the Passive Income Fallacy. We cover why so many business owners waste their precious time and energy in pursuit of an illusion, the truth about what's involved in running a successful online course or membership business, and the business model I recommend instead for marketers, consultants and financial professionals.

Have you noticed a lot more competition for your ideal clients? If you think your market is saturated, you may be right. Over the past decade, I have noticed several entrepreneurial fields becoming crowded. Areas like marketing, consulting, and business and life coaching have grown exponentially — especially since 2020 and the Great Resignation. There are a few reasons for this growth, and on today's episode $ix Figures Lab Coach Elizabeth Cook and I will talk about why certain fields have become saturated and how to ensure you stand out in a crowd. Keep listening to learn the number one mistake service-based business owners make that practically guarantees they will be invisible to their ideal clients, why the way I describe my business has evolved over the years, and how to use the Blue Ocean Strategy to laser in on your niche and specialty.

Do you think you have a marketing problem? Before new clients join us in our group coaching program $ix Figures Lab, we ask them to evaluate and analyze their business across essential areas such as strategy, operations, team, and sub-areas like marketing. This gives us insight into what they believe the problem is and allows us to dig deeper to discover underlying issues. The most common area new clients rank in as needing urgent help is their marketing. They report they aren't doing enough marketing. They don't have a real plan. Or their current marketing plan isn't working. But, nine times out of ten, they don't have a marketing problem. In today's episode, Elizabeth Cook, who is a coach in $ix Figures Lab, and I will talk about why marketing may not be the issue and what the real problem likely is. You'll learn why a marketing problem is a sign you want more control and stability in your business, the reason Marketers, Consultants and Financial Professionals don't need an all-out marketing blitz, and what to do instead of wishing for a magic formula.
People complain, they just do. Sometimes it's venting, sometimes they are verbally working through a problem, sometimes they are projecting their own issues onto coworkers and their workplace in general, and sometimes people have a legit grievance. The BizChix Podcast: Female Entrepreneurs | Women Small Business | Biz Chix
What I have learned over the last decade working individually with over 1,000 women entrepreneurs, is that we all have blind spots when it comes to our businesses and we are each focusing on things that may not be moving our business forward even though it may feel like we are keeping very, very busy. My guess is that you are doing things to attempt to attract your ideal clients that they do not care about, notice or even participate in. So effectively, you're wasting your time. One of the challenges here for all of us is that often the loudest marketers, the most flashy, the ones with the best ads, they seem that they have it all together. And they're telling us that we need to do these things and they have really big budgets behind their messaging. They do that without regard to the business model you are building. My goal is to help you maximize the time you spend bringing clients into your business. In January, I created a live video for my clients in $ix Figures Lab that I want to share with you today. Afterwards, I'll circle back and give you some things you can think about as you decide what activities to keep, adjust or delete and what opportunities to say a hard yes to or a hard no.
We've all seen gossip magnify into something truly awful that goes against your core values and stops people from feeling safe at work. That's no way to attract or retain great people to work alongside you. So as a woman who leads what can you do about it, especially in the moment and within your own circle of influence? Join me today where we will talk about how you can spread waves of positivity instead of nasty commentary. Not in a fake and overly produced kind of way, but in a genuine and professional way that bodes well for any woman who leads. You don't need a massive team to have a highly profitable business as a marketer, consultant or financial professional. But you do need a high performing team. What would it be like if you could give every member of your current or future team a five star rating? Can you imagine how your entire business and life would change if you had that kind of support? Your team includes anyone you pay to support you — either in your business, or in your personal life. Many of the women we work with in our group coaching program Six Figures Lab, have reached a tipping point in their service-based business, and they are ready to bring in more support in business, at home, or both. But they often get hung up on the idea that their team has to be massive or full-time. It doesn't. Elizabeth Cook, who coaches with me in Six Figures Lab, joins me to discuss building your lean dream team. You will learn how to rate your team members using one to five stars, why your goal should be five star support all around, and what to do about team members who are not performing at a five star level.

Have you considered working in a fractional role with your clients? The most common fractional roles include fractional chief financial officer, chief marketing officer, chief operations officer and chief people officer. Some of our clients come to us already offering fractional packages. Or we help them pivot into a fractional role after joining $ix Figures Lab because it elevates their position in the marketplace and reflects the value they are creating for their clients already. In this episode, Elizabeth Cook, a coach in Six Figures Lab, and I will talk about working in a fractional role, and I'll share why I hired a CMO this year. You will learn why your clients might consider hiring you in a fractional role — instead of hiring a full-time employee, what a fractional role might look like, and how to start re-positioning yourself to sell fractional services.

Does it ever make sense to offer a discount on your services? My stance on discounts is a solid no. But it's not quite that simple. If you're anything like some of our clients, you may get creative when it comes to discounting your services by trying to find an exception to the no discounts rule. What about you? Are you coming up with creative ways to offer a discount without calling it a discount? If so, stop right there and listen to today's episode. Elizabeth Cook, who is a coach in Six Figures Lab, and I will talk about why you should never offer discounts, even to your long-term clients. And you will learn why you don't have to offer discounts to get clients, how to respond if a client asks for a discount, and how to navigate a subcontracting arrangement that might involve lowering your rates.

Where are you hiding in your business? Now, you might think I'm only talking about hiding from visibility opportunities, but hiding is about more than visibility. And you might think we're going to discuss procrastination because so many business owners use it to avoid making difficult decisions or taking action. Hiding in your business goes a layer deeper, and it may be harder to recognize because it appears to be productive. In today's episode, Elizabeth Cook, who is a coach in our $ix Figures Lab group coaching program, and I will talk about what it means to hide in your business and what it's costing you. You will learn about the top three hiding mechanisms entrepreneurs use to avoid making changes in their business, including hiding behind your content, your network, and your client work.

How many of your clients have your personal cell phone number? If this method of communication works for you, that's fine. However, it quickly becomes a problem if your client has an all-access pass to your time, and you feel like you can't say no, especially to those quick texts after hours and on weekends. Maybe this communication style worked when you started your business and had only a few clients. Now, it has become overwhelming and intrusive as more and more clients have access to you. It will come as no surprise that this is a boundary issue. In today's episode, Elizabeth Cook, who coaches with me in our $ix Figures Lab Group Coaching Program, joins me to discuss how to set communication boundaries to protect your time, your team, and your business.
The BizChix Podcast: Female Entrepreneurs | Women Small Business | Biz Chix
It could be where they work, their working hours, their communication style, lack of attention to detail or how they present themselves to your clients. Sometimes we let team members go without giving them a chance to make changes and perhaps as leaders we have not clearly communicated and set boundaries. In today's episode, I'm joined by Elizabeth Cook, who coaches with me in our $ix Figures Lab Group Coaching Program. We discuss common themes that show up with our clients and how to recognize boundary issues with your team. You will learn how boundaries affect your team's performance, why your team needs you to provide clear expectations and uphold them, the simple, disarming way to start a boundary-related conversation, and how to know it's time to set new boundaries with your Team.
The BizChix Podcast: Female Entrepreneurs | Women Small Business | Biz Chix
Do your clients know what your boundaries are? How about your team? Boundary issues come up a lot in with our clients, so please know you are not alone. If you struggle with holding boundaries in your personal life they will inevitably bleed into your business. If you don't have policies and contracts in place, chances are no one knows what your boundaries are — possibly not even you. In today's episode, Elizabeth Cook, who coaches with me in our $ix Figures Lab Group Coaching Program, joins me to discuss why policies and contracts are the foundational pieces for setting and holding clear boundaries in your business. The good news is, if you've been running your business without policies and contracts, you can always renegotiate the terms of engagement with your clients and team. Keep listening to learn how boundary issues show up with your clients and team, and how to uphold your boundaries even when it's uncomfortable.

Not knowing which actions will actually move the needle in your business is one of the biggest challenges facing entrepreneurs today. After all, there are thousands of strategies and tactics you could try. But which one is the best for YOU? Too often, I see business owners trying to do all of the things in their business. And that is a recipe not only for burnout, but also for a slow growing business. In today's episode, I want to re-introduce you to the Pareto Principle, also known as the 80/20 Rule, which states that 80 percent of your results come from 20 percent of your efforts. What if one simple shift in your priorities could decrease your workload and increase your revenue? The simple shift is prioritizing conversations over content. This might surprise you because as entrepreneurs, we are told to produce tons of free content in multiple forms for multiple platforms. Frankly, churning out content for your business can be exhausting. But the real problem is not the amount of time and energy it takes. The real problem is the lost opportunity to have real conversations. Just one conversation is much more likely to result in referrals, clients, and revenue than publishing one hundred pieces of content. In today's episode, Elizabeth Cook, who is the accountability coach in $ix Figures Lab, and I will talk about the content-heavy business model, why it may not work for your business, and why posting content should not be your go-to strategy for getting clients.
Are you holding onto something in your business that is not right for you simply because you already invested significant time, money or energy in it? Maybe it is a course, coach, software, strategy, client relationship, or an employee. Even though you are not getting the results you want, you are holding on for dear life. We see this often with the women entrepreneurs in our community. And I even hear some version of it when women debate whether or not to join us for our group coaching program, $ix Figures Lab. Many women tell me they feel guilty about making a new investment because their last one did not pan out. I understand why they feel this way. After all, no one wants to waste money. But let me ask you — how much is holding on truly costing you? In today's episode, Elizabeth Cook, who is the accountability coach in $ix Figures Lab, and I will talk about Sunk-Cost Fallacy, how it can block your progress, and how to know when to let it go.
