Last night’s State of the Union Address was, though indirectly, in many ways largely indicative of the ‘State of our Union’; irascible, beleaguered, gaslighted, schizophrenic. Despite getting sidetracked for a bit on today’s episode, below you’ll find my extensive coverage of last night’s SOTU, including a timestamped breakdown of my live observations while watching. You’re sure to find some things the MSM has obfuscated or ignored… #Links American civil religion, ceremonial deism, apotheosis American civil religion – Wikipedia The Apotheosis of Washington – Wikipedia Ceremonial deism – Wikipedia Biblical Religion and Civil Religion in America by Robert N. Claim Rebuttal Source Rebuttal ‘$18 trillion’ in investments CNN’s Daniel Dale “…the White House’s own website said the figure for “major investment announcements” during this Trump term was “$9.7 trillion,” and even that is a major exaggeration; a detailed CNN review in [Oct 2025] found [WH counting trillions in] vague investment pledges, pledges that were about “bilateral trade” or “economic exchange” rather than investment in the US and vague statements that didn’t even rise to the level of pledges.” Low gas prices (2.30, 1.99, 1.85) CNN’s Daniel Dale According to AAA: only 2 states w/ avg < $2.50/gal; GasBuddy: 4:150k (.003%) gas stations w/ gas < $2/gal Inherited record inflation CNN’s Daniel Dale Dec, 2024 Y-O-Y inflation (CPI): 2.9% Inherited stagnant economy CNN’s Daniel Dale False (see details) Passed largest tax cuts (GBBB) in American history CNN’s Tami Luhby “It ranks seventh in terms of share of GDP since 1918, according to Chris Towner, policy director for the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan watchdog group.” Biden allowed ‘11,888 murderers’ to enter US as migrants CNN’s Daniel Dale ““11,888” number is about non-citizens who entered the US not just under Biden but over the course of multiple decades, including during Trump’s own first administration.” Foreign countries are paying T47 tariffs CNN’s Daniel Dale “In an analysis released in February, officials at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York wrote, “We find that nearly 90 percent of the tariffs’ economic burden fell on U.S. firms and consumers.”…[CBO] wrote in a February report that “the net effect of tariffs is to raise U.S. consumer prices by the full portion of the cost of the tariffs borne domestically (95 percent)”…” Fraud in Minnesota CNN’s Daniel Dale “…Walz admin official said in December that they had “evidence of tens of millions of dollars in fraud to this point,” not $9[/18/19] billion…” US elections claims CNN’s Daniel Dale Disputed (see details) More Americans are working today than ever CNN’s Daniel Dale “The labor force participation rate, which measures the percentage of the population that is employed or actively looking for work, has been almost unchanged…” Ended eight wars CNN’s Daniel Dale Largely disputed (see details) Achieved no tax on Social Security CNN’s Tami Luhby Disputed, misleading (see details) Balancing the federal budget by ending fraud CNN’s Tami Luhby 2024 GAO estimate “found that [$233–521B] is lost to fraud annually. Send us a textA whisper can change an entire family's future. When Ally was born with microtia and aural atresia, her parents were told she wasn't a candidate for a cochlear implant—and they left the hospital thinking that was a good thing. In this Friday audiogram, we open the door that should have been opened on day one: the world of bone conduction hearing devices, how they bypass the outer and middle ear, and why they can be the right fit for conductive hearing loss. From that first appointment to the moment a device is switched on, we walk through the decisions, referrals, and support networks that turn confusion into confident action. We share how practicing at the top of scope changes lives: if you don't specialize in bone‑anchored hearing aids, know who does, and refer quickly. You'll hear how early intervention accelerates language and vocabulary growth, and why unilateral hearing loss still deserves serious attention for localization, classroom listening, and fatigue. Melissa explains how a centralized, global community helps families who lack insurance, don't know the right terms to search, or feel overwhelmed by mixed messages. Clear resources, evidence‑based guidance, and real stories shorten the learning curve and get parents asking the right questions: Is bone conduction an option for my child's anatomy? What's the path from softband to implantation? How do we measure progress at home and in therapy? The heart of this conversation is a single scene: an audiologist powers on a bone‑anchored device, whispers “Ally,” and a baby turns with bright eyes and a smile. That first response reveals what was missing and what's now possible. If you're a parent, caregiver, or clinician, this story offers a roadmap—understand the type of hearing loss, explore the full menu of appropriate hearing technology, lean on early intervention, and use community to stay informed and supported. If this episode helps you or someone you love, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs to hear it, and leave a review to help more families find their way.Connect with the Hearing Matters Podcast TeamEmail: hearingmatterspodcast@gmail.com Instagram: @hearing_matters_podcast Facebook: Hearing Matters Podcast

Send us a textWhat if your hearing tech could tell who you want to hear—even while you're walking—and lift their voice above the crowd? We dive into Starkey Omega AI's DNN 360, a new approach that blends deep neural network noise management, intelligent directionality, and spatial awareness to make conversations stand out without turning the world into a dull hush. It's built for real life, not lab silence, and it targets the moments that frustrate most: busy cafés, echoey lobbies, and outdoor chatter where voices blur together. We break down how the system personalizes noise reduction using a model trained on speech, environmental sounds, and complex scenes, then pairs it with directionality that aims at the talker without collapsing the space around you. That balance yields measurable results—up to a 13 dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio in diffuse noise and a reported 28% boost in speech understanding—while keeping listening natural and comfortable. The twist is motion: by integrating inertial measurement units, the device recognizes when your conversational partner is off to the side and adjusts focus as you move, solving the everyday mismatch between where you look and who you're hearing. We also explore spatial fidelity—minimizing interaural phase delays so your brain gets a stable, believable soundstage—because clarity isn't just about suppression, it's about preserving cues that help you separate sources. Together, these elements create a more effortless listening experience that adapts to your preferences instead of forcing you to adapt to it. If you care about hearing better in noise, you'll come away with a clear picture of how AI, directionality, and motion sensing can work in concert to reduce effort and raise understanding.Enjoyed the conversation? Follow the show, share this episode with someone who battles noisy rooms, and leave a quick review to tell us where hearing tech should go next.Connect with the Hearing Matters Podcast TeamEmail: hearingmatterspodcast@gmail.com Instagram: @hearing_matters_podcast Facebook: Hearing Matters Podcast

Send us a textWe dig into how Bluemoth reimagines the path to better hearing by pairing prescription hearing aids with a modern, direct-to-consumer experience that respects privacy, reduces stigma, and preserves clinical outcomes. Born from years of brick-and-mortar practice and leadership in statewide audiology, the model answers a pivotal question: how do we lower the barrier to entry without lowering the standard of care?We trace the spark back to 2017 as OTC legislation moved through Washington State and revealed a split within the profession. Rather than frame OTC as a threat, we explore how access can be an on-ramp, especially when so few people with hearing loss seek help. The inspiration also comes from the eyewear world—think Gentle Monster and Warby Parker—where devices double as identity and the buying journey feels inviting. The goal: bring that sense of agency to hearing technology while keeping expert fitting, counseling, and verification at the core.Step by step, we map the Bluemoth customer journey: a private virtual consultation that reduces intimidation, clear education that demystifies choices, a guided home trial for real-life testing, and a purchase pathway anchored in prescription devices and professional support. Along the way we tackle the real barrier—stigma—not just price, and show how hybrid delivery can duplicate clinical excellence at scale. If you've wondered how to combine boutique-level care with e-commerce convenience, or how to meet patients where they are without compromising outcomes, this conversation offers a pragmatic blueprint. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a colleague or friend who's been curious about hearing health, and leave a quick review so others can find it. Your feedback helps more people take the first step toward better hearing.Connect with the Hearing Matters Podcast TeamEmail: hearingmatterspodcast@gmail.com Instagram: @hearing_matters_podcast Facebook: Hearing Matters Podcast

The story isn't about chasing hustle—it's about aligning vision, building systems, and choosing patient-first care even when the market shifts under your feet.We dig into practical pivots that actually work. Brad shares how leadership mindsets from John Maxwell and frameworks like The E-Myth helped him create processes that scale, hire with clarity, and reduce owner dependency. When OTC hearing aids and market turbulence hit, he expanded services thoughtfully, then recognized when the physical therapy model didn't fit. The result was a lean, “autopilot” hearing practice with strong systems and a team trained to deliver consistent outcomes without burning the owner out. You'll hear a step-by-step approach to reclaiming control: the dream practice exercise to define income, role, team, and service mix; reverse-engineering the metrics that matter; and the courage to trade optics for sustainability. We also spotlight mobile audiology for senior living communities—an underserved path that builds grassroots demand, strengthens referrals, and differentiates against big-box retail. If you're a private practice owner feeling the squeeze, this conversation offers clarity, tactics, and a reminder that flow beats force when vision leads.Want support building a mobile vertical or tightening your systems? Send us a textEver wonder why some hearing aids feel too loud yet somehow still muddy? We dig into the exact method that fixes that mismatch: real ear measurement. By placing a tiny microphone in the ear canal, we verify whether amplification reaches prescription targets where it matters most—right at the eardrum. No more guessing, no generic presets. Just a precise, research-backed way to make speech clearer, reduce listening effort, and help you forget you're even wearing devices. We walk through the full journey from diagnostic hearing tests to fitting algorithms and targets, then show how verification turns theory into results. Think of it as graphic EQ with purpose: mapping your unique ear canal resonance and dialing in gain for soft, average, and loud speech without blasting everything. Along the way, we share patient-friendly visuals and explain why “louder” isn't the goal—clarity is.Then we shift to hearing conservation, because preventable noise damage is still far too common. Using the sun exposure analogy—intensity plus time—we offer practical, no-judgment tips for daily life: keychain earplugs you'll actually carry, high-fidelity filters for concerts and rehearsals, smart positioning away from speakers, and strategic listening breaks. Musicians and audio pros will hear candid talk about fading stigmas, the reality of noise-induced injury, and how small habits protect the career you love.If you care about hearing speech clearly, enjoying music safely, or getting the most from modern hearing technology, this conversation gives you the playbook. Listen, learn, and try one change today—like adding earplugs to your keys—then share this episode with someone who turns it up to 11. Send us a textStart with a person, not a feature list. That's the thread that runs through our conversation with Brandon Sawalich and Dr. Dave Fabry about how hearing technology actually improves lives: by putting the patient first, then letting smart tools do the heavy lifting in the background. We dig into how AI moved from a buzzword to a real advantage in tough listening environments, why sound quality remains the non-negotiable foundation, and how “the ear is the new wrist” reframes what a hearing aid can be.We share the inside story of building Starkey's Omega AI and the eighth generation of sound processing, including DNN 360 and a neuroprocessor designed to make great hearing the default. Think of it as an easy button for clinicians: set a strong baseline fast, then spend time on what only humans can do—listening, coaching, and fitting for comfort. The Da Vinci surgical system offers a useful metaphor: technology doesn't replace expertise; it amplifies it. That's how we see the partnership between AI and hearing care professionals, and why robots won't be fitting ears anytime soon.Beyond better hearing in noise, Brandon and Dave talk about the bigger health picture. Untreated hearing loss intersects with cardiovascular health, cognition, and social engagement. So Starkey built tools that track activity, encourage connection, and enable voice control without adding another gadget to your routine. They're honest about the pushback that comes with change, the “Swiss Army knife” moment, and what they learned about leading with clarity: it's a hearing aid first, with multipurpose superpowers second. If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who's curious about hearing tech, and leave a review so more people can find conversations like this. What happens when people report real hearing difficulties, but their audiograms show “normal” results? In this episode, Brian Taylor speaks with Dr. Brittan Barker and Dr. Aryn Kamerer from Utah State University about their recent research on adults with unexplained hearing concerns. Despite normal test results, many of these individuals struggle with everyday communication, particularly in noisy environments. The discussion explores patient experiences, the clinical “conundrum” faced by audiologists, and why listening to patient narratives is critical for improving careDiscover the three major themes from their study: dismissive healthcare experiences, misaligned testing methods, and the lengths patients go to find answers. The conversation highlights how clinicians can take practical steps toward more person-centered care and better outcomes.**link to their recently published research in the International Journal of Audiology can be found here: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14992027.2024.2404150Be sure to subscribe to our channel for the latest episodes each week and follow This Week in Hearing on LinkedIn, Instagram and X.- https://x.com/WeekinHearing- https://www.instagram.com/thisweekinhearing/- https://www.linkedin.com/company/this-week-in-hearingVisit us at: https://hearinghealthmatters.org/thisweek/

Send us a textHave you ever met someone who says they can hear perfectly fine, but still struggles to understand speech, especially in noisy environments? That puzzling disconnect might be explained by Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) – a condition affecting what our brains do with the sounds our ears detect.Dr. Angela Alexander reveals a startling finding from the Framingham cohort study: approximately 20% of adults who report hearing difficulties actually have normal hearing test results. These individuals aren't imagining their struggles – they're experiencing processing issues that standard hearing tests don't capture. "We used to think about auditory processing in terms of people who had no hearing loss whatsoever," Dr. Alexander explains, "but it is also possible to have hearing loss and processing problems." This insight opens new possibilities for helping people who have hearing aids but aren't getting the improvements they expected. The conversation takes a serious turn when discussing the profound psychological impact of undiagnosed CAPD. People with this condition often withdraw from social situations, creating isolation that contributes to our national loneliness epidemic. Dr. Alexander shares a practical screening tool – the Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults (HHIA) – that can help identify potential CAPD cases by measuring the mismatch between audiogram results and self-reported difficulties. This simple questionnaire could be the difference between continued frustration and finding appropriate help for millions of people. For hearing healthcare professionals listening, this episode provides valuable insights on expanding your practice to better serve this underrecognized population. For those struggling with hearing but told their tests are normal, it offers validation and hope. Send us a textRay Woodworth takes us on a deep dive into the nuances of hearing aid fittings, sharing insights from his dual perspective as both a 47-year hearing aid wearer and an industry professional. He challenges the notion that real ear measurement alone is enough for optimal fittings, advocating instead for a balanced approach that honors both objective measurements and subjective patient feedback.Drawing from his experience of fitting countless patients with custom technology, Ray explains why custom ear molds are crucial for patients with moderate to severe hearing loss, especially in the low frequencies. "When you run real ear measurement with a dome versus a custom, I've seen a 9dB difference," he notes, emphasizing how this can dramatically improve streaming quality and overall sound experience. The anatomical uniqueness of each ear—from curved canals that resist dome placement to surgical modifications that require specialized approaches—further underscores the need for customization. Most compellingly, Ray shares his personal journey with hearing loss, revealing that despite having measurable thresholds in his right ear, standard target-matching through real ear measurement creates uncomfortable distortion. This highlights the critical importance of patient perception, which can't be captured by measurement tools alone. Using the metaphor of a light dimmer, he explains how patients who have lived with hearing loss for years may need time to adjust to proper amplification, requiring hearing care professionals to balance technical perfection with practical comfort. What truly sets exceptional hearing healthcare apart isn't just technical expertise or high-tech equipment—it's the humility to listen to patients and respect their subjective experience. "We have to be humble and listen to the patient, no matter how much we know," Ray emphasizes, "because the patient tells us the truth." Episode 269 of The Business Development Podcast takes us into Part 9 of the Podcast Playbook, where Kelly Kennedy breaks down the truth about marketing and growing a podcast. Launching a show is only the beginning — real growth comes from leveraging guests, showing up consistently on social media, using audiograms and clips to spark curiosity, repurposing content, building community, collaborating with other creators, and when the time is right, investing carefully in advertising where people are already listening. Kelly shares lessons learned firsthand, from early group-sharing strategies on LinkedIn to the difference between social media followers and true podcast listeners, offering practical ways to turn effort into momentum. At the heart of this episode is the reminder that podcast growth is not linear. It ebbs and flows like the stock market, with highs and lows that only make sense when you zoom out and stay consistent over time. Kelly emphasizes that you have to give yourself the time and runway to win — growth is slow and steady, but it compounds if you don't quit. For anyone looking to move from launch day into long-term success, this episode provides the roadmap and the mindset needed to keep showing up until the audience finds you.Key Takeaways: 1. Podcast growth is slow and steady, not instant — most people quit before the compounding effect kicks in.2. Leverage your guests by giving them clips, graphics, and recognition so they share your show with their networks.3. Social media is great for brand awareness, but it rarely converts directly into listens or downloads.4. Audiograms and short clips are powerful tools for promotion, especially when you highlight guest moments.5. Every episode is a content engine — repurpose it into quotes, carousels, blog posts, and newsletters.6. Paid advertising only works when you place it where people are already listening, like Spotify Ads.7. Social ads may grow followers, but true podcast success comes from loyal listeners, not vanity metrics.8. Building an email list or community deepens connection with listeners and keeps them engaged long term.9. Collaborations and cross-promotions with other podcasters and brands can dramatically expand your reach.10. You have to give yourself the time to win — growth ebbs and flows, but consistency and patience build loyal fans.✨ Join The Catalyst ClubIf you're ready to take your growth further, you don't have to do it alone. These bite-sized episodes bring you essential insights from our extensive catalog of conversations with industry leaders. In this inaugural Friday Audiogram, we tackle the complex relationship between tinnitus and hearing loss. Many patients mistakenly believe their tinnitus prevents them from hearing properly, but the reality often runs in the opposite direction. As Dr. Tarvin expertly explains, for many people, hearing loss comes first, with tinnitus developing as a symptom of that auditory deficit. This "chicken or egg" relationship requires careful unraveling during patient consultations. We also explore the power of motivational interviewing in hearing healthcare. By asking open-ended questions like "Tell me your story," practitioners can uncover crucial information about patients' true concerns. This patient-centered approach helps distinguish between perceived problems and actual underlying issues, leading to more effective treatment plans.Dr. Tarvin shares her personal journey to tinnitus specialization, which began when she recognized gaps in her knowledge while trying to help distressed patients. Her background in neuroscience provided the perfect foundation for exploring tinnitus management—where audiology intersects with cognitive health and emotional wellbeing. The Hearing Matters podcast has grown beyond our wildest expectations, now reaching listeners in over 4,100 cities across 212 countries. Title:An Event Production Masterclass (ft. Dawn Martin | VP Meetings & Shows | BI Worldwide)Bio:With decades of experience as a business theatre Executive Producer in NYC, Dawn, a winner of many prestigious creative awards, is known for bringing drama and theater to major corporate events.  Her clients include dozens of Fortune 500 companies. Today, her role as VP allows her to focus on forming exceptional teams while her ongoing global exposure to talent within the business continues to open the doors to innovative ideas.Opening Quote:"And you know, a lot of us have been in this business a long time, so we don't want to be up all night. When I started in this business, it was all-nighter after all-nighter after, my God, it was just… I ended up in the hospital more than once. But we don't do that anymore, and we don't have to because we know what we're doing, which is great."Summary:In this episode of No More Bad Events, Scott interviews Dawn Martin, a seasoned event producer from BI Worldwide.  The topics are broad and far-reaching.  It's quite a masterclass in event production.  In no particular order, some of the many things discussed included the challenges of using in-house A/V services, the importance of hotel negotiations, the benefits of recruiting young talent from diverse backgrounds, the post-COVID changes that have shifted audience expectations, leading to a preference for shorter, more engaging presentations and greater demand for networking opportunities. To that point, Dawn emphasizes the importance of creating arresting, immersive experiences.  And the significance of adopting AI to stay competitive.  Especially as it concerns measuring audience response in real-time.Dawn also emphasizes the importance of customer care, efficient project handling, and flexibility with budgets and last-minute changes. And very importantly, Dawn suggests that proper staffing is crucial to maintain a healthy work-life balance.Overall, it's a Masterclass of facts and details that, if applied, will lead to No More Bad Events.Audiogram: (3:43- 4:20)“I think that what I've seen in general is that a lot of the meeting planning departments in these corporations really let go of a lot of people during COVID, And so they're short-staffed. They need to know what to do. They're relying on us even more to say, how can we make this engaging for these audiences? And these audiences, you know, they don't want to be scheduled back to back to back to back. They want more time to network, they want more downtime, they want to do community service. So the good thing is that they're looking to ask for more advice. The bad thing is some people don't have great advice to give them.”HIRE THEM TO SPEAK:Follow Dawn Martin: Connect with Dawn MartinFollow Scott Bloom: eSpeakers BioFollow eSpeakers: eSpeakers MarketplaceABOUT NO MORE BAD EVENTS:Brought to you by eSpeakers and hosted by professional emcee, host, and keynote speaker Scott Bloom, No More Bad Events is where you'll hear from some of the top names in the event and speaking industry about what goes on behind the scenes at the world's most perfectly executed conferences, meetings, and more. Social media can be an effective way to grow your audience. There are many options, like Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, Instagram and others. How do you determine which platform to use? THE RIGHT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM The first factor in your social media platform decision should the location of your clients. Be where your ideal client is. Different social media platforms attract different people and are used for different purposes. Facebook is like a journal. This is where you keep your memories and share the things that have happed to you. X is similar to a conversation. The discussion on X is more real time. LinkedIn is used for business connections. This is where business conversations happen. Instagram is like a photo album. This is your story in pictures. TikTok is still creating its identity. The short videos on TikTok are little snippets that can be used to connect with your potential clients if you create the correct content. DIFFERENT MODES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS Another important factor to consider when selecting your social media platform is the format of the content. People like to consume content in different modes. Some like audio. Some like to consume video. Others prefer text. What is the preferred content format of your ideal client? TikTok is great for short video. Facebook is decent for all three. Audiograms on Facebook and Instagram are often overlooked. LinkedIn is great for longer articles to demonstrate your expertise. It is wise to provide your content in multiple formats. Different modes for different folks. VALUE OF YOUR CONTENT Whichever mode and platform you choose, be sure to provide value. Valuable content is content that fulfills a need. That could be education, entertainment, or simply stirring emotion. Your content on social media can't just sell. It will be quickly ignored. Provide great content and get people back to your show to build those relationships. LINKEDIN FOR PROFESSIONALS If you are trying to attract professionals, like entrepreneurs, leaders, c-suite pros and the like, LinkedIn is a great platform. LinkedIn is a powerful tool for attracting professionals, especially if you're a coach or consultant. You can use LinkedIn to grow your audience and attract your ideal clients with the right strategy. An audiogram is a piece of media that combines visual art, a sound wave, an audio track, and even a transcription of the dialogue. These are great wee shareable files that you can use on social media to promote your latest episode. To make one, you just need to pick out a memorable or powerful segment from the show, say, between one to three minutes long. Then, use a tool like Headliner to quickly and easily create it.
