Podcasting features are ever evolving We delve into the intriguing concept of the value time split. This episode is dedicated to exploring how individuals and organizations allocate their time between tasks that generate immediate value and those that promise long-term benefits. How this affects productivity, innovation, and personal growth. Join us as we unravel the complexities of the value-time split, whether you're a business leader, entrepreneur, or just someone looking to make the most out of every minute, this episode promises to offer valuable perspectives on managing one of our most precious resources: time. Today's Hosts: Todd Cochrane and Mike Dell We have rolled out some new Podcasting 2.0 features and improved some of them. We are going to go over some of the new stuff we have added to Blubrry Publisher, PowerPress and Podcast Mirror. Value Time Split Value Time Split is a way to switch out the V4V for a segment of your episode. So if you are doing an interview with another podcaster or playing music that is V4V enabled, you can set the time of that segment and during that segment, you can give another person some of the streaming sats or Boostagrams. Then when that segment is finished, it reverts back to the V4V settings you have on the show normally. Podroll / Remote Item Podroll is very similar to the old Blog Roll. This is a way to promote other podcasts in your feed. This one was at the show level. You promote shows (not episodes) Remote item is a way to put episodes from other shows in your feed that can be shown on some of the new podcast apps (podcastapps.com) Block Block has always been there for just Apple Podcasts. We have improved it by adding it to all platforms. So if you want to discourage a particular app from pulling your feed, you can set it to Block in your feed. Frequency: Podcast Mirror We have added Podcasting 2.0 to the Podcast Mirror service. This allows you to get some of the channel-level features even if your podcast hosting company does not support it. It also allows you to use 3rd party stats even if your host doesn't support it. https://podcastmirror.com Not Podcasting 2.0 related, but we did release Blubrry Premium podcasting as a one-time add-on to your hosting plan. This allows you to charge for extra content, Early access or ad-free versions of your show. Very similar to Apple Subscriptions, if fact you can do BOTH on Blubrry. After much preparation and anticipation, half of Blubrry's Podcast Movement attendees headed to Colorado from Michigan while the other half simply headed from their homes in Denver. It was refreshing to see the conference so well attended and the team was excited to talk to would-be podcasters, newbies and, of course, to catch up with veteran podcasters and friends. Today's Hosts: Mike Dell, Todd Cochrane, Cathy Beuten and Ben Beecroft Here's a quick fun-down, err, rundown of our time at Podcast Movement Denver, Aug. 21-24. Were you there? Tell us what you thought of the conference in the comments. Also, if you are a Blubrry hosting customer and didn't get your conference badge, take a photo and email it to any of us and we'll make sure it gets added to your site. Denver Insights The team shared knowledge, advice and insider tips for podcasting growth and success with hundreds of Podcast Movement attendees. It also listened a LOT to folks who had questions and new ideas for the future of podcasting. Podcast Insider also welcomed Cathy, communications specialist who recently joined the team full-time, and Ben Beecroft, software developer, who emphasized how meeting happy customers and prospects reinvigorated him. The event had a diverse crowd, including many young podcasters and enthusiasts. The team discussed how it was strange in one sense to see so few of the regular faces, but how they were highly enthused by the growing interest in podcasting with all the new faces. The team's discussions with Podcast Movement attendees covered topics such podcasting networks, statistics, PowerPress (podcasting from WordPress), hosting and many of the other Blubrry features. Some positive reactions that highlighted Blubrry's offerings included features such as closed captioning, transcription, Podcasting 2.0 and security. Despite the long days and limited food choices, the team was energized by the energy of Podcast Movement and spoke about the continued value of attending events for connecting with customers and learning about the podcasting landscape. One of the biggest hits among Blubrry's audiences at Podcast Movement was the swag at the Blubrry booth: beer cups, hats and water bottles, to name a few. Coming home, all four of the attendees were further motivated to continue improving the podcasting industry and serving podcasters' needs. Plans for future events like PodFest Expo, Jan. 25-28 in Orlando, were discussed, and we'll share more on that later! Check out this wrap-up video by Podcast Movement! Do you have your own podcast website? You should. On today's Podcast Insider, we review why podcasters should have a website of their own and just how easy that can be utilizing Blubrry tools and services, as well as other platforms. Your online presence is essential to growing a podcast and creating a loyal audience. Today's Hosts: Todd Cochrane and Mike Dell Why You Should Have a Podcast Website SEO Homebase for your show that your listeners can access -- so if you disappear from a platform they'll know where to find you. Pride of ownership You control your brand and IP What is the Blubrry Way? The Blubrry way is a thing we came up with a while back to explain the method of total ownership of your brand, show and website. Basically it's the way we do this show. The way Todd and Mike handle their shows. Never build your business on rented land Get your own domain Host a WordPress website that you control 100% Generate your RSS feed from a domain you own With WordPress and PowerPress, YOUR domain is the origination point, not a syndication point. (Rather than your host's domain.) Choose where you want to syndicate your show and submit it to those places Being everywhere only requires an RSS feed (in most cases). Listeners will pick the best way for them to listen. Don't try to force them to one place or another. Don't care where they listen as long as they do! You do what you are good at (content) and use technology that is safe from being taken down. (PowerPress, WordPress, DNS, Podcast Index and more) The Blubrry team is here to help you along the way, but in the end, it's all yours. If Blubrry goes away (highly unlikely, but still) PowerPress is designed to work with or without us. Once it's all set up, it couldn't be easier. Create a show file Create a blog post on your site Upload the media Publish the post Rinse and repeat And most importantly, don't get bogged down by the minutiae! A complex workflow can deter you from podcasting. Our primary goal at Blubrry is to help you continue telling your story via podcasting, so keep it simple and keep it flowing! [Powerpress] https://youtu.be/HFkQDxHDDhQ Brett Gilliland: All right. Welcome to the Circuit of Success. I am your host, Brett Gilliland, and today I've got Elle Nelson with me. Elle, how you doing? Elle Nelson: Hi there, Brett. Good, thank you. How are you doing? Brett Gilliland: I'm doing great. I'm excited to have you today. We're gonna talk, um, for those listening and, and watching, uh, we're gonna have 50% of this is gonna be about us as parents. Uh, raising children with sports. Elle was a, uh, dual college athlete. You've played golf, uh, I believe in France, in England and the United States, uh, at a, at a very high level. Um, you, you know, you've done the college thing, so I want to talk parenting slash sports, and then I also want to talk business, mindset, culture, all that type of stuff. Sound good? Elle Nelson: Absolutely looking forward to it. Brett Gilliland: Awesome. Well, you are with, uh, IMG. So that's, uh, anybody in the sports world probably knows who IMG is Down in, I believe in, was it Bradenton, Florida? And, uh, and then, uh, Limitless Minds is another company that you, uh, that you work with and you also have your own, uh, consulting company. So you are busy and, uh, we'll dive into all that work that you're doing. But I'd love to kind of just pick your brain a little bit on what's made you the woman you are today. Uh, to wake up and get to, you know, kinda work for three different companies and run your own deal. Elle Nelson: Yeah, absolutely. Good question. Diving straight into it. So what's made me the woman I am today, I, I mean, I think a lot of that, of course we could start early on, like with my parents, we, we won't go into all of that detail, but I think I had parents who instilled pretty strong values in me from a young age, right? It's like if you start something, you're gonna finish it. You're gonna give it all you've got. Um, Whole heart, whole head in the game. And uh, my dad came from a pretty heavy sporting background. He played hockey in college and up in Canada. So sport was something that I was involved in from a really young age. And then I ended up getting into, um, you may have said golf, but it was actually soccer. Brett Gilliland: Oh, did I say golf? I'm sorry. I, I play golf, so. Elle Nelson: No, it's totally fine. I figured that was the case. Uh, yeah. But I was like, oh, I'm pretty sure he knows that. But it's fine. Uh, so soccer was my main sport and I got into that from a pretty young age. I ended up doing the club thing, high school thing, traveling. Uh, and then to be honest, I think like big picture answer, a lot of my mess up, a lot of my obstacles adversity that's made me who I am today more than anything else. Yeah. Uh, I, I ended up like getting into quite a lot of trouble when I was in high school. I was a pretty bad kid for a while. I think my mom even threatened to like put me into a group home. At one point I ended up quitting soccer for a year, my junior year. And when I did that, I was also in a car accident. So I was just getting into a lot of trouble and. After that year, I realized what I actually wanted and I started doing it for myself. So I realized before that point, I was doing it for my parents. I was doing it for other people to please them, and that for me, even today, I see that it's like a really big turning point.

Tips to Getting Your Podcast Going As people who have launched lots of podcasts over the years, Todd and Mike from the Blubrry team are more than equipped to provide tips on the best way to start a podcast. Welcome to the new look, new format Podcast Insider! For Episode 333, CEO Todd Cochrane (@GeekNews) and Blubrry Support Evangelist Mike Dell (@MGDell) take us back to the basics to discuss the best ways to start a podcast. We hope you enjoy today's episode of Podcast Insider; we've worked hard to ensure that you're getting the best podcast knowledge. We'll still be periodically having guests on, so if you're interested in being featured reach out to the team. Today's Hosts: Todd Cochrane and Mike Dell We cover a variety of items at hand when starting your podcast. Topics - Pick one you're relentlessly passionate about and won't run out of things to say about it; skip popular and stick with something you care about. Podcast Titles - Do your research and secure the title quickly. Research other shows, you can do so here. Don't make this too difficult to spell or pronounce. Websites / Domains - Lock down a URL before it's already taken. Consider if it will be your show title, network, business, your name, etc. Artwork - 1400x1400 is recommended. Directories are very picky about this, so you have to get the specs right. RSS Feed - Time to setup the lifeblood of a podcast; we suggest using PowerPress and Blubrry hosting. Trailer / episode 0 / launch episodes - Should you do them or not? It depends, but it typically doesn't hurt to give audiences a heads up. Directories - You can't submit to directories until you have your first episode; Apple, Spotify & Podcast Index. The page on where to submit your podcast can help. Blubrry Pro Tip First Impressions Artwork Question of the Week Question:I use an AudioTechnica ATH-M50 headset for my podcasting, but I need to buy three more pairs for guests, and I don't want to spend $200 on each pair. Can you recommend a "decent" headphone option that sounds neutral and easy to listen to for long periods of time that's under $100? Answer: (Mike)I have a set of Sony MDR 7506 headphones that I like a lot. They are around $80 and seem tough as well. At least I haven't broken them yet :) (Todd) You could likely go cheaper than that for guests. As long as they can hear you and the headphones are comfortable, it shouldn't be an issue. This time I'm a little more independent because I want to see how Sovereign Feeds work and I feel more comfortable with an XML file for my feed rather than one that is autogenerated at a directory. Blubrry Pro Tip What Tone Do You Podcast In? Question of the Week Question: How do you get your idiot, know-it-all, boss to understand the value of podcasting? Answer: Data. And then harp on the ways in which you'll be able to reach customers. And lastly, come in with content ideas and some logistics. Also important, costs! Shop around for pricing for every thing you'll need -- sometimes including asking other team members if they'll be able to add this to their plate or an outside freelance hire, etc. They'll come to understand the value of podcasting if you give them reason to. Do this by clicking the gear icon in the Podcast Landing Page card and selecting the appropriate option - “I don't need a website,” “I would like a WordPress site from Blubrry,” or “I have a website.” This ensures that we're displaying the correct settings when it comes to episode creation. Blubrry Pro Tip What Tone Do You Podcast In? Question of the Week Question: How do you get your idiot, know-it-all, boss to understand the value of podcasting? Answer: Data. First and foremost, there is data that confirms how many people listen to podcasts. Edison Research and Nielsen are great for this. Some hand wringing over Infinite Dial 2022 - a slight dropoff in podcasting. Monthly listeners went from 41% of the population to 38%. My take: it's nothing to worry about. The pandemic turbo-charged podcasting growth, and people are settling back in to routines. 109 million Americans still listen to shows every month, and that's more than pre-pandemic. Further, podcasting awareness continues to grow - now up to 226 million, or 79% of US Adutls.Deep Dive from Tom Webster:https://tomwebster.media/what-to-do-when-the-line-stops-going-up/Infinite Dial 2022: https://www.edisonresearch.com/podcastings-key-statistics-for-2022/Spotify hopes to make a profit off of podcasting investments "soon." Besting Podcast Hosting Platforms If you think you're already missing out on starting your own podcast, the good news is the industry is just getting started! Don't let 2022 pass you by without launching your show, building your audience and effectively monetizing your unique skill sets. Do what the pros do and maximize the benefit of using your blog's features with a reliable podcast hosting plugin to grow your reach. In this episode of Video Marketing for Business, let's talk about the Best Podcast Hosting Platforms and how you can get started. ▶️ Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Libsyn is running with the competition in the space and up levelling the game. I highly recommend Libsyn as the best podcasting hosting platform for those specifically looking to host their own RSS feeds. We've been using Libsyn for most of our clients — they are experts in their fields who are starting their shows from scratch. We host multiple podcasts for them every month, and it's been a great resource and tool for us. ✔️ There are exciting developments with the new Libsyn 5 that will benefit wherever you are in your podcasting journey! From publishing, tracking your stats and customizing colors for your podcast player are just a few of the new features of the Libsyn interface. ✔️ Branding is key, so you want to stay on-brand with your podcast too. The new Libsyn features more customization for you and your podcasts. You can configure a better-looking podcast player with smart color matching, helping you stay on-brand. ✔️ Podcast host Megaphone allows you to log in and host multiple accounts in one spot and keep those consistent stats as well. One of our clients we work with hosts multiple series and podcasts, and we create podcast series for him every quarter. He does 12 video series and has launched over 40 plus podcasts. He uses Megaphone as the best choice. ✔️ Blubrry hosting with PowerPress is the publishing plug-in you go in with WordPress. That might not necessarily be the approach you go with if you don't want to push it out as a blog, but if that interests you, you can look into Blubrry. ✔️ Podbean is another user-friendly platform that you can also utilize to create your personal RSS feed. It's a good option that's very similar to Libsyn, but now that they just launched Libsyn 5, you have all of those other additional cool things to work with. ————————————————————————— Want to Launch Your Podcast in 30 Days or Less? I release episodes weekly (35-60 minutes depending on guests). His recommendation is to release daily short episodes (60-90 seconds) with a daily snapshot, daily update on a topic of interest to my audience. Has anyone done this? Answer: I have a long time ago on one of my shows. To be honest, it didn't do much for my listenership. In fact, I would say it annoyed some of my listeners. Frankly I would be annoyed if I am expecting a 30 min show and I get a 90 second show. Personally, I pick shows by length when I set up a playlist for a particular listening session. Today we have Logan Anderson from the Say the Damn Score Podcast. His description is, “Say the Damn Score: An unprofessional podcast on professional sportscasting.” you can find it at http://www.saythedamnscore.com/ (www.saythedamnscore.com) Here is what we liked About the Show http://www.saythedamnscore.com/ ()The intro helped shape the atmosphere and branding of the show (a fun, edgy podcast) You got to the guest in less than 1 minute. The volume levels were good. The website has a clean and easy to navigate. The interview was great Logan did a TON of homework for his interview and it showed He asked great questions, and because he paid attention to his guest, great follow-up questions. What Might Need Some Tweaking His link to iTunes on his website started with “itpc://” which works, but you don't get credit for the subscribers (add your iTunes link in PowerPress under the destinations tab). Erik enjoyed the somewhat sarcastic opening but thought that spirit got a little lost and would advise “putting a little more smile” into his voice at times. At the beginning of the show, you might consider explaining what the show is, “Welcome to the Say the Damn Score show where we _____ for (typical audience). The average user can figure out it's a sports show but we should identify if we are talking about teams, leagues, etc. Instead of having multiple calls to action (iTunes, email, etc) put those items on a single page so you can give one call to action. Make the about page a little more outward focuses on what the show is about, how you're going to benefit, and who it's for. Just like anything in life, it's a good idea to know WHY you're doing something, as opposed to only "going through the motions"… And if you're only dabbling, if this "internet marketing" thing is only a hobby to you, then it's likely you haven't found very much success because you rarely finish the things you start. If you actually want to make money, it's time to stop dabbling and actually create something. Don't "start" to create something. Actually make that single membership site, add that affiliate program to it, and get some traffic… You need to go all-in. The first problem I see with people going all-in is that they keep changing what they're going "all-in" for, which really isn't going "all-in." You probably know what I'm talking about. Changing to a new niche every month. Only focusing on Pinterest marketing one month because "everyone's" talking about it. Only focusing on Kindle comic books the next month because "everyone's" talking about it… Let's separate the forest from the trees: the only things you need to focus on in your business are your list (so setup an opt-in page and follow-up sequence), traffic (setup a retargeting pixel, run Facebook ads and have an affiliate program) and offers (promote affiliate products and sell your own products). When it comes to list, traffic and offers, there's the MUST-HAVE's (sales letter, email autoresponder) and the NICE TO HAVE'S (blog, podcast, Facebook fan page, etc.) You "could" run your business without a blog (the website you see here) and you could run your business without a podcast (an internet radio show where you post audio episodes on your blog and they also appear in places like the Apple iTunes store). BUT, if you already have SOME kind of sales letter and opt-in page in place, your blog is the TRAFFIC method to get more clicks onto your webpages and a PODCAST is a really easy way to consistently update that blog even if you have just a few minutes every week… I highly recommend our Podcast Crusher course to get your podcast setup. You use your existing blog (or setup a new one) and use a special plugin called PowerPress and a file hosting service called LibSyn. You don't want to host your podcast audio files on Amazon S3 or on your own web host for a number of reasons. The biggest one is that it's easier to look at your stats. You can tell which episodes get the most play and that tells you what kinds of podcast episodes to create in the future. The Robert Plank Show premiered on September 13, 2012. I'm not a super prolific podcaster but I've published 56 episodes with exactly 41 hours of audio content in those three years. I want to get you into podcasting (or BACK into podcasting if you've neglected it) because the traffic is steady consistent, as long as you publish consistently which is probably the #1 most important thing when it comes to podcasting… Podcasting is just audio blogging that happens to get listed on Apple iTunes. Let's just call it what it is. In the past, when I had something to say, I'd spend a couple hours typing out some big long post (kind of like I'm doing to you now). When I want to put out a new podcast: I spend about 10 minutes figuring out some bullet points (if that), and I hit record I speak out my podcast "episode" in one single take, about 30-40 minutes. The "ideal" podcast length is 20 minutes, but that's a little short to cover the things I want to cover, although I don't want to go over 60 minutes After recording the audio, I spend about 1 minute adding intro and outro music. Important: I don't edit out any "um's" or "ah's" or anything like that It takes another 1 minute or so to properly "tag" the file for podcast players and add things like my cover graphic into the file About 1 more minute to upload the audio file to the special hosting service (just wait for a simple file to upload) Finally, I go to my WordPress blog at RobertPlank.com, click Add New Post,
