Florida first lady Casey DeSantis discussed her state's initiative to test for contaminants in food products, including baby formula, candy, and bread. The tests revealed that 17 out of 24 baby formulas had problematic levels of arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury. Florida is publishing these results to inform consumers and is encouraging other states to join the effort. The initiative also found glyphosate in many bread brands and arsenic in candy, particularly in Nerds and Jolly Ranchers. In this February 6 episode of MAHA News, Jordan Sather and Nate Prince cover a wide range of health, food, and policy developments shaping the MAHA agenda. The show opens with a discussion on how diet and nutrition affect mental health, including examples of symptom reversal through real food and protein-focused eating. The hosts then break down Florida House Bill 433, a proposed expansion of food libel laws that could allow agricultural producers to sue critics for product disparagement, raising major First Amendment concerns. In contrast, they highlight positive movement in Utah, where lawmakers advanced legislation to legalize raw milk sales without a permit. The episode also covers the launch of TrumpRx, a new direct-to-consumer platform aimed at lowering prescription drug prices, with a live walkthrough of how pricing comparisons and pharmacy coupons work. Later segments focus on RFK Jr.'s comments on addiction as a disease of isolation, declining overdose death rates, and how economic incentives within healthcare, insurance, and rehab systems may discourage true recovery. The show closes with additional updates on fluoride regulation, EcoHealth Alliance funding bans, and toxic ingredients found in baby formula.

Episode 344 Elon Musk has announced he wants to merge SpaceX with another of his companies, xAI, and launch one million satellites into space. One reason - according to Musk - is to eventually harness the entire power of the sun, a sci-fi sounding idea that would make us a Kardashev Type II civilisation. But he also wants the satellites to help power AI and move data centres off Earth. Is his goal realistic… and what would be the consequences? Parents desperate to get their children to sleep are resorting to melatonin gummies - and it's proving very effective. Melatonin is a sleep hormone which is only available on prescription in many countries. So some parents are importing them from America - where they can be bought over-the-counter. The trouble is the long-term side effects are not really known - and cases of melatonin overdose in children are on the rise. Despite global agreement to cut the "overall risk" from pesticides by at least half by 2030 - new data shows we're not even close. Countries made this commitment at a UN biodiversity meeting in 2022, but so far it's been almost impossible to measure success. Thanks to a researcher in Germany, we now have a way to track our progress - and it's not looking good. Could an increase in organic farming be the solution, or CRISPR gene editing? In this episode of Talk Dirt To Me, we break down Tennessee House Bill 0809 (HB 0809) the controversial legislation surrounding pesticide liability, chemical manufacturers, and modern agriculture that has sparked heated debate online and across farm country. We cut through the noise and explain what HB 0809 actually does, what it doesn't do, and why, contrary to viral claims, this bill does not open the door to more chemicals in your food or water. We walk through the realities of farming today, including how little crop protection products are actually used, when chemicals are applied, why timing matters, and how strict label laws already govern every single application farmers make. We also directly push back on claims made by Shawn Ryan, addressing the fear-based narrative that this bill would somehow amplify chemical exposure or increase cancer risk. We explain why that argument falls apart when you understand EPA labels, state regulations, applicator licensing, and modern agronomy practices. From there, we dig into the pros and cons of HB 0809, why some farmers support it, why others are skeptical, and what it could mean for lawsuits, ag innovation, and rural economies moving forward. Then we shift gears to one of the biggest frustrations in agriculture right now. The complete punt of E-15 ethanol from the bill. Farmer groups across the country are furious, and for good reason. We discuss: Why E-15 matters for corn farmers How many bushels of corn nationwide E-15 could realistically consume What kind of price impact it could have had on corn markets Why this was such a massive missed opportunity for rural America We close out the episode with a lighter but honest conversation about California, sharing our firsthand experience and why the state isn't nearly as one-dimensional as social media makes it out to be. Send us a textHow industrial farming, seed oils, soy, and pesticides impact food nutrition and health. Not medical advice.TOPICS DISCUSSED:Soy's rise in farming: Originating from paint uses and wartime chemicals, soy became dominant due to subsidies and large-scale farming practices, but introduces high PUFAs, phytoestrogens, and pesticides into animal feeds.Feed's impact on eggs: Chicken feeds high in soy and corn raise linoleic acid levels in eggs compared to low-soy alternatives; low-PUFA eggs improve digestibility for many.PUFAs & health effects: Feeding PUFAs fattens animals faster and disrupts human gut lining and metabolism; body fat composition changes take time, linking to chronic issues like low energy.Phytoestrogens in soy: These compounds pass into animal products, affecting estrogen signaling and gut health; mainstream nutrition often overlooks their risks despite historical low exposure.Dairy variations: Raw milk retains lactoferrin for iron regulation and gut support, plus enzymes and probiotics destroyed in pasteurization; it may resolve dairy intolerances for some.Regenerative farming model: Armstrong's cooperative emphasizes traditional feeds to “resaturate” foods, reducing PUFAs; supports small farms amid declining farm numbers.Ancestral diets insight: Traditional diets vary but share low PUFA levels, avoiding modern chronic illnesses tied to industrial fats.ABOUT THE GUEST: Ashley Armstrong, PhD co-founded Angel Acres Farm in Michigan and now runs Nourish Food Club, a cooperative of small farms producing low-PUFA, soy-free animal foods.RELATED EPISODE:M&M 273: Nutrition Content of Animal & Plant Foods: Beef, Plant-Based Meat, Raw vs. Processed MilkSupport the showHealth Products by M&M Partners: SporesMD: Premium mushrooms products (gourmet mushrooms, nootropics, research). What if one of the most widely used pesticides in the world is something most people have never even heard of, despite likely encountering it daily? In episode 206 of the Outdoor Minimalist podcast we are discussing neonicotinoids, often called “neonics.” They're the most commonly used insecticides in the United States, applied to crops, lawns, gardens, golf courses, and even found in flea and tick treatments for pets. They're designed to make plants themselves toxic to insects—but that efficiency comes at a cost to people and the planet. So how are chemicals with these kinds of impacts still allowed in our food, water, and everyday products? And why has federal regulation lagged so far behind the science? To help answer those questions and more, I'm joined by Daniel Raichel, an expert on pollinators and pesticides at the Natural Resources Defense Council. The NRDC is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than three million members and online activists. Since 1970, NRDC has used science, policy, law, and people power to protect public health and confront the climate crisis.Dan is an attorney by training and directs NRDC's work focused on protecting bees and other wildlife from toxic pesticides. Before joining NRDC's Nature Program, he co-directed the Community Fracking Defense Project and worked on industrial pollution cleanup in the New York region. The hosts react to statements from RFK Jr., HHS officials, and media coverage framing the changes as historic, while unpacking questions around liability, state responses, and long-term implications. The episode also dives into the newly released dietary guidelines and the inverted food pyramid, emphasizing real food, reduced ultra-processed consumption, and how these changes will affect school lunches, SNAP, and military meals.
