Send us a Text Message. After the length of that last episode, you may have thought that we were dead. But no, we have one final stop before we can escape the Summer of Action! Well, two technically. But if we're going to escape from two of America's major cities, we may need help from someone with experience. Thankfully, Snake Plissken always seems to get captured at the most convenient times, when some serious rescue or recovery situation presents itself. Better team up with Snake and give this a listen if you want to be the Duke of Podcast Listeners, a number one! We continue with #SciFiJuly Presents #DystopianSummer with a Nearly New World that is very close to the hearts of (most of) the hosts of this show: John Carpenter's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. No, this was not released by New World Pictures, but, fret not, we will explain how we fit into our Nearly New World series. Will the hosts gush about the movie? Yes! Will they offer criticisms? Kind of, a little! They will also discuss why this movie is so important to (most of) them, offer their own Letterboxd synopses, and of course, compare the original to ESCAPE FROM L.A. Will Henry Thomas ever listen to this show after this? Doubtful! But you can listen to every episode and follow along with the #DystopianSummer here: https://newworldpicturespodcast.com/

This week we talk about Escape from L.A., or as it's stylized, John Carpenter's Escape from L.A., which is basically a sequel to the far superior Escape from New York, even though it's basically just a remake. Plisskin protecting fire-proof parka positively parching president's perverse princess! Harvesting human hunks, hoping for healing! Lackadaisically landing on leveling Los Angeles! Crappy carbon-copy cop-outs! Hershe! Rob's slug plugging! Greco-Roman sex style President! Mini-nuke batteries? Power-plant logic! Death Basketball! A whole bunch of ‘sploseys, and much, much more on this week's episode of The Worst Movie Ever Made! www.theworstmovieevermade.com This episode was an email request, so you know... do that, and we'll do more of this.

Derided by both audiences and critics, we offer a defense of the film as a vital work of Carpenter's late period that manages to thrill as an action picture, while wryly thumbing its nose at the corrupt values of Hollywood and its own existence as a prototype for modern "legacy sequels".We begin by talking Carpenter in the 90s, a time when he was taking his biggest swings (while also facing some of his most frustrating conflicts with studios). Then, we take a look at the fascinating tenor of the film, and how it balances the acerbic, raw energy and wit of the original film while taking aim at societal ills of 1996 America with even more directness and urgency than its predecessor. Finally, we compare the film to other great movies (and one 2021 sequel specifically) that have followed in the spirit of 'Escape From L.A.', reckoning with legacy, while also boldly subverting audience expecations in pursuit of revealing the deeper truths and authenticity of their creators. First we take New York, then we take L.A. Join our Discord https://discord.gg/jDrUtNcRq2 Well with Kyle still missing in action and Craig taking a week off it looked like Scott may have to talk about a film on his own (perish the thought!). However, that eventuality was narrowly avoided thanks to a last minute save from one half of the "Namely 90s" podcast Brandon Schwitter appearing in his "All '90s Action, All the Time!" pod debut to talk about this not so classic Carpenter/Russell collaboration "Escape From LA." Over the course of the episode you will hear Brandon and Scott talk about how the film mirror's the original, the wacky tone of the movie and just how badass Russell is as Snake Plissken. Plus, the pair get into the historically awful CGI in the film, some of the others things that haven't aged well and how, despite all of its flaws, it remains a very fun watch.

Hello all you Ed-Heads, Timbos, and Candice Ian infatuated. This week we have a hum dinger of an episode. We are joined for the first time by my role model, Kurt Russell as the one and only Snake Plissken. Who Candice dated a guy that was convinced Kojima took no inspiration from for the Metal Gear series. A harsh inditement on the intellect of Candice, and her romantic interests at the time. Tim is largely checked out this episode, I think he was wounded by how dope Snake's hair looked, or maybe he was too distracted by a Pam Grier with proper modulation. Steve Martin was born August 14, 1945. He really started entertaining people at 15 years old when he worked at the magic store in Disneyland. But after that he went on to work in Hollywood as a writer on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and started developing his stand-up routine. Years of this lead to appearances on TV, especially Saturday Night Live. Popularity rose to point where he got a leading role in his own movie. Carl Reiner directed him in The Jerk, his first big lead, in 1979. After that he dabbled in musicals, drama, cameos and so much more. Check out this week's show to hear about a ton of other roles he had such as All of Me; Three Amigos; Planes, Trains, and Automobiles; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; and more! Plus, we touch on his music, which is pretty impressive in itself, and a ton of awards he has acquired over his life. Steve Martin truly is a legend. Are you a fan of Steve Martin? What's your favorite role? Did you read all of these show notes? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Excuuuuse Me!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Pretty much everyone crowds into the overstuffed A plot: Peter, with his regained doctorly confidence, attempts to reconcile with Amanda, but right now she's laser-focused on getting Craig to tell her his big secret about Arthur. Sam and Billy are annoyingly happy -- and since all the boning means Sam definitely can't let her Pill prescription lapse, she happens to be at the drugstore when Alison is picking out a pregnancy test. Matt comes up with a story about how he got his black eye, which no one finds convincing -- particularly not after Matt and Dan have dinner with Sam and Billy (?), and Dan can barely stop himself controlling Matt's wine consumption. Sydney grows increasingly frustrated by Carter's apparent unwillingness to spend any time with her outside of his house and away from his "online conferences." But the plotline's biggest fireworks are for Jane, who gets robbed at gunpoint in the store and struggles to determine what the right path forward may be. Megan and Kimberly manage to convince Michael that they haven't been collaborating, leading Michael to sign the divorce papers and go to Vegas with Megan. But back in L.A., Peter's sniffing around Kimberly's doctors, and soon calls with bad news. Escape into our podcast on "Escape From L.A."! JOIN THE AWT CLUB

Dive in head first or survive the night? Where do you even start with these two post-apocalyptic films: I Am Legend vs Escape From LA. In this episode Dave and Blake wonder "What's the proper amount of exposition?" "Am I emotionally ready for this dog's character arc?" and "Could you please speak up, Kurt Russell?" So pour yourself a Cuervo Jones, turn up the Bob Marley and bid farewell to your sexiest mannequin as we descend into future-past movie hell. After two months of global destruction, dystopian wastelands and the divorced dads that will do anything to protect their stacked daughters, we say goodbye to our ROTTEN APOCALYPSE miniseries. For our grand finale, we're looking back at one of the most notorious disasters of the 20th century and an underrated late career banger from one of our best directors. First up, it's the infamous 1995 flop "Waterworld" starring Kevin Costner as a half-man/half-fish/100% incel living in a post-apocalyptic world that is, yes, all water. After that, we're welcoming the great John Carpenter to the podcast for the first time ever(!) with his only sequel, "Escape From L.A." starring Kurt Russell as the legendary Snake Plissken. Was "Waterworld" really the financial disaster it was pegged as even before audiences got the chance to experience it? Are the VFX that bad in "Escape From L.A."? Is Kevin Costner the very definition of white privilege in Hollywood? Should John Carpenter only make movies for under $20 million? Why does everyone in "Waterworld" want Costner's cum so badly? Is Kurt Russell a goddamn national treasure? Would you rather live in a post-apocalyptic world where you get to surf the LA river with Peter Fonda or one where the best thing that can happen is you find some dirt to sell? We're joined by Chad Alligood to discuss all this and more right here on America's #1 source for all things Rotten. Be sure to follow us on PATREON next week as we transition to exclusive episodes for our subscribers, as well as bonus episodes and some very tite merch coming soon!

We have made it to episode 70! And just like we do every ten episodes we are talking about a movie and its sequel. This time we are talking about John Carpenter's iconic protagonist, played by the legendary Kurt Russell, Snake Plissken! To help up with that we are joined by Video CULTure's staff writer (and Carpenter superfan) Patrick Bartlett.
John and Hunter revisit John Carpenter's Escape From L.A., his tepidly received remake/sequel to Escape From New York. How does it hold up years later? How did it so accurately predict what L.A. would be like today? Is Snake playing basketball cool? All shall be revealed.
Call him Snake. Call him Plissken. Just don't be piss him off. We're back with another Carpenter classic this week, along with its divisive follow-up that flopped fairly hard.
Today I'm joined by Will Menaker (@willmenaker) of Chapo Trap House, where we discuss John Carpenter's incredibly misunderstood ESCAPE FROM L.A., the extremely mid-90s soundtrack, Carpenter's ability to make the ultimate Dudes Rock movies, and try in earnest to jumpstart the re-evaluation of his post-80s output.CTH: https://www.chapotraphouse.com/

Snake Plissken has a new mission in a city that's been turned into a prison… only this time, he's got to survive a night in Los Angeles. Join us as we chat about sequels that are basically remakes, maps to Tom Arnold's house, and how hard it is for Dave Bautista to stay shirtless. Then we find out if Escape from L.A. stands the Test of Time.

Matt and Hilary are joined by their boon companion Bill Hutchison to discuss John Carpenter's (identical) films ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981) and ESCAPE FROM L.A. (1996). The gang talks about the concept of the prison-island-city film and 1980s science fictions of popular cinema. We get into the western qualities of the films, discuss the logics of settler colonialism and the myth of the law, and we make some breakthroughs on the big question these films pose: What makes Snake tick? At the end we share our picks for where we'd set a third ESCAPE FROM movie. Our movie episodes are very indulgent, and we're going to keep doing them occasionally! Fans of John Carpenter's cult hit Escape from New York were clamoring for more of its iconic antihero Snake Plissken, but despite the creative team and star Kurt Russell returning for another round, the 1996 sequel met with poor box office receipts and violent rejection from audiences. The campy approach and reliance on sub-par visual effects certainly didn't help matters, but is the movie really that post-apocalyptically bad? Join Jennifer and Sebastian as they hang 10 with Snake and make another attempt at Escape from L.A.

Here is the super spectacular 89th episode of the most fun horror podcast under the MULTI-MEDIA MEN banner called ‘My Bloody Podcast‘, where the show is related to all things HORROR! Here on this new episode, hosts Bryan Kluger from Boomstick Comics, High Def Digest , Screen Rant, and Preston Barta of Fresh Fiction and the Denton Record-Chronicle talk about everything we love about horror movies, tv shows, and horror-themed music. Hollywood screenplay writer Jeff Howard joins us as we discuss Our Feature Presentation this week - 1996's ESCAPE FROM L.A.! In our eighty-eighth episode, we dive into Jeff's career and how he got his start in Hollywood with Debra Hill and John Carpenter on the production of ESCAPE FROM L.A. and his transition to Disney films and television shows. It's an entertaining conversation that includes behind the scenes information and hilarious anecdotes from the set of ESCAPE FROM L.A., along with some cool stories on the Disney archives. We also discuss favorite scenes in film, comic books, and animation. **CORRECTIONS** In the show, Jeff talks about meeting Tim Burton, but in fact was The Lion King (1994) director Rob Minkoff. Also, in the Bloo0dy Question segment, Jeff says Phil Hammond would make a great villain in a Snake Plissken sequel, where he meant to say Darrell Hammond from SNL. MY BLOODY QUESTION “If there was a Snake Plissken sequel, where would he Escape from?” Head over to Reddit to read our listener's responses. We also dive into Bloody Tunes and Bloody Recommendations as well. Our big topic, of course, is the 1996 film ESCAPE FROM L.A. as Jeff, Preston, and Bryan discuss what makes it work and not work. It was so much fun. This episode is guaranteed to thrill you, chill you, and fulfill you. And don't forget to visit iTunes , Stitcher , I Heart Radio, and Spotify to subscribe to our podcast. John Carpenter's follow up to the cult classic Escape from New York is the very definition of "too little, too late.” We dissect what went wrong and simultaneously try to honor the late Peter Fonda, whose performance in this sequel is one of the few highlights.
In this episode you are treated to Mike and Sam's sexy morning voices as they rock for a full six hours of gigs, take a three-hour nap, and then wake up to record this palette-cleanser podcast on the Escape From L.A. Soundtrack, as they prepare you for the start of their mini-series on Tool starting next week. Stabbing Westward, White Zombie, Deftones, Sugar Ray, Tool (of course) and more are featured.

This week, the nobodies dive deep into the twisted world of John Carpenter's campy, satire, Sequel/Reboot ESCAPE FROM L.A. But hold on to your eyepatches kids because they are all over the place this week. Which is fitting because this film is too. You'll wish you didn't know now, what you we podded about then. Strap in, pop a Coke Zero, and get ready to kick it into Maximum Overdrive.
The year is 2018. The once vibrant and promising frontier known as The Information Superhighway is now a cesspool of hate and division. Two disgraced podcasters are must venture into the depths of this World Wide Web and recover a Microsoft Zune containing a long-form discussion of John Carpenter's seminal dystopian classic from 1981, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK ...and its less-revered sequel from 1996, ESCAPE FROM L.A.
Ryan and Matt "HoeJoe" Amberg are back and barking about Ryan's sordid past, Escape From L.A. (like anyone would want to!), X-Men Apocalypse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Something Something Shadows, Warcraft, and Captain America Civil War before it's on to time spent with Fart Cry 3 Blood Stool Dragon, Overwatch, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, Hokus, and (the end of?) Pokemon Go. Also did you see the trailer for Battlefront/Gears of War/Dishonored/Little Nightmares/Resident Evil 7/Metal Gear Survive/Infinite Warfare/Assassin's Creed? It was just okay, maybe sue somebody about it. WeLoveUbisoft.com.
This week Patrick lays down a Double Film Feature presentation for his Birthday Challenge: To watch both “Escape From New York”, and “Escape From L.A.” directed by John Carpenter. We track Snake Plisskens tours through the world of Metropolitan Maximum Security Prisons as he warns us about the downfalls of the Electoral College in U.S. Politics. Next Week’s Challenge: DESTINY: Rise of Iron First Impressions
