Our guest this week on the OSP has been part of the Pittsburgh Penguins media for many years and will be sharing his insight on the last, present and future of the organization from his perspective. Bob Grove covered the Penguins for 17 seasons at the Washington (PA) Observer-Reporter and 14 seasons at the Pittsburgh Sports Report. He spent 16 on the Penguins Radio Network, and he wrote Pittsburgh Penguins: The Official History of the First 30 Years (Taylor Publishing 1997) and contributed to the second edition of Total Hockey, The Official Encyclopedia of the National Hockey League (2000).   Where did it all begin for you? Bob said Ron Hextall is in a very difficult position because he's trying to get another cup run out of the core while also worrying about the future. Bob still thinks the Pens will make the playoffs even if Casey DeSmith is the man in net the rest of the way. Bob said the offense needs to take advantage on more of the chances that they are getting. “I don't see any way, shape or form that the Penguins can beat Boston, New Jersey or Carolina in a 7-game series. I just don't see it.” Despite thinking the Pens will get in, he doesn't see really any shot of them winning a series. Bob thinks it will be difficult for the front office to move any of the big three pieces because they gave these guys new contracts that included a no-trade clause. Bob said the big off-season priority has to be finding a new goaltender.
