In 1990, Dr. Robert Melillo's five-year-old son was diagnosed with ADHD. As a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience and co-founder of Brain Balance Centers, he sought to understand his son's condition. His research led to the discovery of Functional Disconnection Syndrome, where the left and right brain hemispheres fail to communicate effectively. This inspired him to create the first Brain Balance Program in Rockville Centre, New York, now also in Manhattan. The Melillo Method has helped thousands of children with autism unlock their potential through movement and sensory exercises, without medications or medical interventions.Dr. Melillo expressed his extreme joy and hope in transforming the lives of brilliant autistic children by solving the puzzle of their challenges. Undoubtedly, as he mentioned, his mental health is nothing but exceptional.
Daneen West is a Cisco Customer Success Executive, mother of three, and Brain Health Coach. For the past 21 years, Daneen has worked for Cisco Systems, designing, and leading industry award-winning talent development programs After years of being on the verge of burnout, she is professionally more resilient, energized, and mentally sharp than decades earlier because of discovering brain health, where all the power is to up-level your life. Certified through the NeuroLeadership Institute and Amen Clinics, Brain Health has transformed every area of Daneen's life, and she is compelled to provide the opportunity for others to ease anxiety, boost focus and finally work on their sleep struggles. Daneen's Brain-Boosting checklist is a great resource to discover practical tips to heal, protect and grow the brain (See below). Memorable Quotes: “So as parents, if we have that intuition like that, something's wrong, check it out. And if the first doctor may not, if you don't resonate there, you're not being heard. Keep pursuing it.” “It's not a badge of honor to stay up all night. Right. Our culture sometimes will make you feel that way or sleep when you're dead. But there's so much that we've learned now around sleep. That's because it is the only way that our brain detoxes every night.” “As you're walking through this journey, you're going to come across ideas, thoughts, music, books, people and they're going to feel right or they're not. I'm going to encourage you to trust yourself. Just because it works for me doesn't mean it works for you.” “What makes the brain work is what you put in your mind, what you put on your body, what you put in your mouth.” What You'll Learn: Why brain health is important and how to pursue a healthy brain through small lifestyle changes. This Episode Includes: Daneen first started looking into brain health when three different doctors diagnosed her son with three different issues: sensory processing, ADD, and Asperger's. After a long journey of searching, Daneen finally came to the realization that brain health was at the root cause of her son's health situation. Daneen found the Brain Balance Program which revolutionized the way she viewed brain health for herself and her children. She believes her health journey is a forever resource which she now shares with others through her coaching program. Robin reminds the audience that health is layered and that there are many factors that can influence brain health. Daneen shares that the first step to supporting brain health is getting good quality sleep. Getting sleep is how the brain detoxifies itself from neurotoxins incurred throughout the day. Daneen shares a few more steps to supporting brain health in children like eating enough healthy fats and getting energy out early in the morning through jumping ropes or jumping jacks. Sleep is one of Dr. Robin's three non-negotiables for a well life. Daneen encourages parents to model the health behavior the would like to see in their children. Daneen and Dr. Robin both agree that small steps are the key to success when pursuing a healthy brain. Three Takeaways From Today's Episode: Practice getting good quality sleep each night this week. Add enough healthy fats to your diet to support your energy levels and brain health. Do 50 jumping jacks with your kids before they head off to school in the morning to help them release energy and feel encouraged through exercising together. When my conversation with Dr. Robert Melillo began, I had no idea I was about to embark on an awe-inspiring exploration of the human brain. As a parent, and a chiropractic neurologist, Dr. Melillo's journey into understanding the brain began when his child was diagnosed with ADHD and mild autism. He has since developed a unique system to work with the brain that not only helps children but adults struggling with neurological issues - a system he passionately shares with us.Work with Dr MelilloTo try Dr. Chloe's Chinese herb and CBD blends check out Radical Roots and use the code RADREMEDY for 15% off!Last if you are looking for high quality supplements and recommendations, check out Dr. Chloe's Fullscript account here and get 15-20% off all supplements all the time!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this week's highly informative and inspiring episode, Brigitte interviews Dr. Robert Melillo, one of the world’s most sought after and respected experts on neurobehavioral disorders and learning disabilities, to talk about the primary issue that he says is behind many of the neurological disorders including autism and ADHD. Dr. Melillo has written 5 best-selling books including Disconnected Kids which has been translated into 8 languages. He also created Brain Balance Achievement Centers which has approximately 150 centers and has helped tens of thousands of families. He shares his journey of diving deep into research on various neurological conditions when his wife sought his help for a friend who had a child with autism and discovered that his own son had ADHD shortly after. Not knowing how to help and not finding much help from his colleagues either, he spent 10 years researching to find the answers he was looking for and finally developed a brain balancing program to help the friend's son, his own son, and many other children. He explains that functional dysfunction--a developmental imbalance that makes two hemispheres of the brain not communicate properly--is behind most of the neurological disorders we see today and in autism, there is usually a developmental delay in the right hemisphere of the brain whereas it's the left hemisphere of the brain in dyslexia. He says that it’s all about the functional connection and functional disconnectivity, however the specific condition presents itself as. He further explains the functions of the right brain and the left brain and how they develop in our early years and why people with autism typically don’t hear the tone and inflection of voice and have difficulty forming attachment and personal relationships with others and maintaining them. He goes on to explain what is causing it all and how we can reverse the skyrocketing increase in these conditions. He talks about his at-home brain balance program, which is offered in his book Disconnected Kids, that can help parents understand what’s happening in their child’s brain and help them do things using different types of stimulation including exercises to get rid of retained primitive reflexes and stimulate one side of the brain or the other as well as incorporating diet and nutrition. He also shares some inspiring success stories where children had remarkable improvement in their conditions from participating in his program. He tells parents not to listen to people who tell them there is nothing they can do about their child’s condition. He says that in most cases, the conditions can completely go away or be significantly improved. He also offers some wise advice to parents on improving and maintaining the well-being of their children. Finally, he leaves us with this message for parents with adults children with autism, "it's never too late."Enjoy this Episode!Resources/Links:Dr. Robert Melillo Websitehttps://www.drrobertmelillo.com/Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/DrRobertMelillo/Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/DrRobertMelillo/Mother's Guide Through Autism Private Facebook Pagehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mothersguidethroughautismBrigitte's Website:https://bmvlifecoach.com/

My first incredible guest, Susan Elmer, is a mother and professional with a fierce noble spirit and bountiful energy. She's the president of FACES- an Autism support group: www.faces-autismsupport.org and mother of a 14 year old son with Aspergers. Susan was voted the Atlantic County Woman of the year – 2011 and tirelessly advocates for families and children with autism. She produced a movie called Tim E to help others understand her son, Timmy. Susan Elmer uses “Circle of Friends” to work professionally in many districts training peers to understand the person with autism. Peers are much more effective than adults in facilitating social skills. Elmer works full time at Cape May County Special Services School District helping districts develop strategies to support students in inclusive education. My second distinguished guest is Dr. Forwood. He received his doctorate degree from Western States Chiropractic College and developed one of the largest single clinical centers in Delaware during the 1980s. Board Certified in Neurology in 1992, Forwood continued to work with patients with neurological problems. Dr. Forwood opened a Brain Balance Center in Wayne, Pennsylvania to help children with neuro-behavioral deficits to improve their academic, social and behavioral functions using a drug-free approach. An estimated 1 in 150 American children has some form of autism. Some research suggests autistic kids who get help early can overcome some of their deficits. The social skills learned as a toddler may not be useful to a teen. Dr. Forwood will also discuss tips for parents and the benefits of the Brain Balance Program.

Or now you can subscribe to just the interviews from our radio show on iTunes by clicking this link.On tonight’s show, Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy learn all about Neurobehavioral/Developmental Disorders from Dr Pete Scire with Brain Balance Center. The Brain Balance Program is a comprehensive program which incorporates a unique multi-faceted approach to the assessment and the development of individualized intervention plans for children affected by the Neurobehavioral/Developmental Disorders such as ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Tourrette’s Syndrome, PDD, Autism, Processing Disorders, and Learning Disabilities (i.e. Dyslexia). Based upon the most current research their program works from a brain based model which recognizes that many of the children that are diagnosed with these disorders suffer a foundational imbalance or under-connectivity of electrical (brain) activity. This imbalance or under-connectivity occurs within and between the two halves (hemispheres) and/or large networks of the brain. They believe that it is this imbalance of function, within and between the two halves of the brain which is often responsible for many if not all of the physical, cognitive or mental, and/or behavioral difficulties related to these disorders. Based upon their comprehensive assessment the Brain Balance Program develops and implements a unique individualized program for each and every child. Each child’s program addresses their specific areas of difficulties related to the physical (sensory/motor) needs, bio-nutritional (digestive difficulties, nutritional deficiencies) needs, as well as neuro-cognitive (academics and behavioral) needs.
