In this episode, Dr Sarah McKay, a neuroscientist, author, and mom, joins Yvonne. They talk about a wide range of topics, including the biggest misconception about the female brain, what happens to the brain during pregnancy, PMS, and a range of other fascinating subjects. Dr McKay also explains why the idea that the Reticular Activating System (RAS) is the centre of manifestation is not backed up by neuroscience. A big part of the experience we have of our bodies is thanks to hormones, also called  neurotransmitters because they help our nervous system communicate with the rest of the body about what's going on inside and outside the body. Having accompanied my partner through the process of having two children, and us both having had many unanswered questions about that; and now heading into my late forties having many female friends and listeners heading towards menopause, and speaking publicly about how they wished there'd been given more information about it as it seems not to be discussed much, even amongst women. So I felt the need to make a show about the science and experience of female hormones, particularly with regard to motherhood and menopause; in the hope that women facing these experiences and men hoping to be informed and supportive to those experiences might get more insight. The truth is - most often we get into feeling paralyzed when we're over consuming and leaving "too much" inside our brain. By taking simple steps to write things down, create lists of how we need to take care of ourselves, setting boundaries with consumption online and with time/energy and highlighting our main objective - we can start to take steps with moving forward. At the end of the day - overwhelm and staying stuck in indecision is a choice. And quite honestly, a disservice to what we truly deserve when it comes to self-care as women. Don't forget that you deserve the same level of love and care you so freely give to others. My challenge for you is to start stepping into "action mode" faster for yourself. The same way you likely do for your family, your kids and the people you love in your life. Beautiful lady - you deserve that grace, nurturing and advocacy too!
