Today on the Balancing Chaos Podcast, Kelley welcomes registered dietitian and nutrition expert Ilana Muhlstein. Ilana is passionate about helping people manage and lose weight and helping children establish a healthy relationship with food from a young age because when she was eight years old, she was shipped off to “Fat Camp.” She lost 30 pounds in one summer, but came back to school and gained it all back. She fell into a horrible yoyo dieting cycle and by 13 years old she was 215 pounds at 5'2". She had a horrible dependency on comfort food, diets and deprivation, all at the same time. A few years later, Ilana discovered the formula and the mindset approach for sustainable weight loss: simple tweaks to her food environment, nutrition selection and emotional reactions. Her 100-pound weight loss transformation inspired her to be the most credible nutrition expert in the field so she can help others. On today's episode of the show, Ilana shares her unique framework for overcoming weight loss plateaus, revving up slow-moving metabolisms, and ensuring sustainable weight loss maintenance for years to come. Their conversation touches on what really matters when you're trying to lose weight, how to break free from emotional eating, using the scale as a tool for motivation and progress, why all calories are not created equal and how to eat smarter NOT LESS! Plus, if you're looking to implement strategies to help your children have a healthier relationship with food, Kelley and Ilana dive into deficiencies that come from poor nutrition in childhood, how to raise balanced eaters, and how it's our responsibility as parents to teach them from a young age about food that nourishes our little ones. This episode promises to be a treasure trove of valuable insights for women trying to lose weight and keep it off, and parents aiming to keep their kids happy and healthy! Welcome to The Strong Family Project, where we delve into important parenting topics that impact the well-being of your family. We will explore one of the common challenges parents face: teaching kids healthy eating habits. Join Joe and Mell from The Strong Family Project as they share their expertise and provide practical tips to make mealtime easier and more nutritious for your children.Lead by Example:The foundation of instilling healthy eating habits in your kids starts with your own habits. As parents, it is crucial to prioritize your own health and well-being by adopting a balanced and nutritious diet. Persistence Pays Off:It's not uncommon for kids to resist new foods or show aversions to certain ingredients. However, the key is to persevere and continue offering healthy options. Keep reintroducing nutritious foods in different ways, such as incorporating them into favorite dishes or preparing them in creative ways. Healthy Alternatives:Sometimes, finding healthy versions of their favorite foods can be a game-changer. Explore recipes and substitutes that provide similar flavors and textures while being more nutritious. For example, try making homemade versions of popular treats like shakes, smoothies, or snacks using wholesome ingredients. This way, you can satisfy your child's cravings while ensuring they consume healthier alternatives.Involve Kids in Meal Preparation:Empower your children by involving them in meal preparation. Let them assist in grocery shopping, selecting ingredients, and participating in age-appropriate cooking tasks. This hands-on involvement not only encourages their interest in food but also helps them develop important life skills. Additionally, when children feel invested in the cooking process, they are more likely to try and enjoy the dishes they help create.Create a Snack List:To address those between-meal hunger pangs, create a snack list with healthy options that are easily accessible. Include items like fresh fruits, nuts, yogurt, or homemade granola bars. Having a designated list of nutritious snacks helps prevent mindless snacking and ensures that your kids have access to wholesome choices when hunger strikes.Plan Family Dinners:Make family dinners a priority and plan them in advance. Involve your children in meal planning by providing them with a few options to choose from. This gives them a sense of control and encourages them to be more engaged during mealtime. Additionally, if your child is resistant to the main meal, offer a few healthy alternatives that they can make for themselves. This way, they still have nutritious options while feeling empowered in their choices.Get the full 7 Elements of the Strong Family Path free at https://strongfamilyproject.com/strong-family-path/ Follow on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@strongfamilycoAnd join the Instagram Strong Fam: https://www.instagram.com/officialstrongfamilyco/Email Us: strongfamilyco@gmail.com with comments, questions, media inquiries or brand advertising (to save time, better listen to some Strong Family episodes first and are aligned with our message!) Did anyone else have former First Lady Michelle Obama starting a kid's nutrition CPG brand on their Bingo Card? Well...you can check those December 2021 receipts on my YouTube video named HollywoodHouse Foods (https://youtu.be/-zXXmAS7bFI). But all jokes aside, I'm glad to see the Michelle Obama continuing her White House efforts to bring this next generation of kids into a healthier future. Beyond her ownership in Plezi Nutrition, Michelle Obama will “position the company to be a change agent and model for how food and beverage CPG brands can support the childhood health." If that sounds like big checks to cash for a first time CPG entrepreneur, it's important to remember that Michelle Obama is no rookie in the space…as she previously held a Board of Directors seat for six years at the largest private label food manufacturer in America. Do you have trouble getting the kids to eat the good stuff?...you know the colourful vegetables and the healthy animal products that they need to grow big and strong. “Trying to feed kids vegetables is like pulling teeth from a shark” is what a parent told me one time and so I asked her, ``Do you eat healthy yourself?'' to which she replied, “who has the time?”. I think this brief discussion I had with a super busy Mum is the perfect preface for today’s episode with Father and Nutritionist Anthony Hartcher because it truly starts at home in the kitchen and the most important ingredient is likely to be one that you aren’t anticipating. On This Episode We Cover:The difference between growing humans and adultsThe core challenges that parents face trying to feed kids healthy foodHow to cultivate a healthy-habit lifestyle inside your family home***[INSERT AFFILIATE LINK AND DISCOUNT INFORMATION or LINK RELEVANT TO ADVERTISEMENT or this: Join the Facebook Group Here (formerly HH4H): https://bit.ly/IntermittentFastingForHealth***--SOCIAL MEDIA--ANTHONY HARTCHERWebsite: http://www.meandmywellness.com.au/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meandmywellness/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/meandmywellness.com.au/Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/34g9HW4BL1hq4QHqpXolSk?si=TDgqDiw_TAafjr6_ztzZVQ--MATTY LANSDOWNInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mattylansdown/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matty-lansdown/Join the Facebook Group Here(formerly Health Hacks For Humans):https://bit.ly/IntermittentFastingForHealthWebsite: https://mattylansdown.com/--Got a question? On this week of The Health Made Simple Show, Dr. Bart is joined by Amber Wick! Amber has been in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years with an undergraduate degree in Biology and a master's degree in Environmental Health Sciences. Amber is a resident Supermom and shares some of her tips she uses to take care of her son and family after a healthy pregnancy at 40 years old! Lastly, Dr. Bart and Amber discuss the best tips for keeping our children safe in a COVID world, how to think about their return to school, and provide exceptional supplements to level up their health. - Keeping Our Kids Safe First, we should talk to our kids about how we want them to behave as opposed to how they shouldn't behave. Otherwise, they will certainly do what we tell them not to! We must consider not just the implications a virus could have on our kids but also the lasting impressions of a lack of social and physical contact. It is hard to figure out parenting on your own! That is why understanding nutrition and talking with your health tribe is so important. It is okay to be flexible! If your child rejects broccoli, try offering them a different green leaf vegetable or the same dish prepared a different way! - Our Family and Health Tribe As parents, we have to stand up for the kids! We should consider who is influencing their potential behavior. A great way to look out for our kids is to set boundaries with those around, even family members! Boundaries are a great way to ensure the desired outcome. The boundaries we can set are not just limited to what our children are eating. It can include the words they hear, the energy others are carrying, and even topics discussed. - How to Prepare Our Kids for School We have to prepare our children for how things are going to be different at school! All of the precautions with required masks, social distancing, and general schedule changes can overwhelm our kids! It is crucial to have a positive attitude when we discuss these changes. If we talk about them negatively, our child will pick up on that energy and have a negative outlook. Try framing it as a new experience! It is important to know that children have a better defense against COVID than adults. They do not have a different immune system, but a better ability to adapt to a novel virus. Children are born rich in enzymes! When exposed to the virus, their large number of enzymes attack the infected cells, helping to prevent the spread of the infection. - Health-Conscious Parenting Meal replacement shakes, vitamins, supplements, and chiropractic solutions are excellent solutions for raising our children. Believe it or not, children often love this routine, and it can even be a fun and energetic process. A considerable concern with children is wearing masks and social distancing. If they are not exposed to pathogens, they will not develop immunity to some diseases. This can lead to them getting sick in the future when their immune system is weaker. Just remember, everyone does the best they can as a parent. Have some grace with yourself! Ensure that you get your information from reliable sources to provide your children with the best possible tactics to level up their health. - How Important is Sleep for Kids? Bedtime routines are essential in ensuring our children develop a great sleep schedule. This also has a significant impact on their emotional and mental health! You heal when you sleep! It is essential to ensure that our children are getting enough sleep as it will continue to level up their health! - Supplements for our Kids! Some great supplements to increase our children's health are Zinc, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D. Also, cod liver oil or a fish oil supplement is a great product to level up their health and improve their immune system. They often even love this as kids! Another great supplement is Catalyn. This is a whole food multivitamin that is a catalyst for their enzymes. Congaplex is Dr. Bart's personal favorite and one of the most exceptional solutions to improve children's white blood cells. These incredible solutions can be found at the link below! http://www.healthmadesimpleshow.com/kids-a - Making Health Simple One action item to move your kid toward their journey of becoming superhuman is to develop self-awareness as a parent. Do not do things just because others are doing them, but look inward and build self-awareness in your life! - What's Next? We have put together a dashboard of all of Dr. Bart's videos, based on health topics, in our Level-Up Health Membership. This library of health content is low cost, so we can help you on your journey to becoming superhuman! Not only is it extensive, but it will continue to expand with new videos each month. Kids fitness starts at home. They absorb and model behavior of a parent and implant into there set of habits .As they get older they ll use the information to make choices for their nuitrition and fitness standardsIt is a parents responsibility to display the balanced approach to food and exercise .It’s not an immideate gratification to see kids follow however just like planting a garden the results will be showing through their life . The relationship with food and the importance of exercise will be most likely depend on what they saw and did as kids . It is important to find the way to avoid Yo-Yo fitness as well as nutrition . As much as we re looking for sustainability in our lifestyle let’s try to instill it in the next generations early years. Certain habits such as rewards with food (as some of our parents used) were circumstantial due to life ( shortage of food for example ) and the method is outdated now and can have adverse consequences. As we role model a behavior try to be flexible and not over critical with fitness and nuitrition . For example if you give your kid responsibility to pick their food, avoid criticizing extensively if it wasn’t 100 percent perfect, rather suggest a better choice to try next. Give them control to make decisions on the nuitrition and fitness and guide them on the process. Today I'm sharing a bit of a different podcast, with you all- and I'm super excited about it! Tanja Shaw and I came together and asked our communities for questions surrounding body image, motherhood and intuitive eating- and we got four GREAT questions we answered together on this podcast. We talked about: As a mom, how are you raising girls (kids) with good body image? How do you teach an intuitive eating style to kids? How do you stop comparing yourself to social media/ online image?I'm recovering from disordered eating and trying to listen to my body, but then a friend tells me about the plan they are doing (keto, etc.) and I get triggered. How can I shield myself from this?I think you are all going to LOVE this episode. Welcome to 2020! Start the new year off right by subscribing to this podcast. After recapping running adventures from 2019 and giving shout-outs for your goals in the New Year, I have a treat for you. (6:43) My guest for this podcast episode is Jimmy Davis, a good friend I've run with for nearly 5 years now, including 5 marathons together. (9:50) He talks about how he got started running, how anyone can do it, (12:03) then Jimmy discusses how he and his wife foster adopted 5 children/siblings all at the same time. Wow! You will hear how faith and prayer played a big role in that decision and process. My guest also has his masters degree in exercise science (17:48) and discusses nutrition in the new year (making small changes) and teaching university fitness classes. Jimmy and I chat about (20:48) how he helped me for my first marathon and our running adventures together - road and trail - then (25:23) we dive into some fitness topics: working out by yourself vs. working out with friends (companionship), exercising hard, and ideal body fat percentage. We close the interview with Jimmy discussing (30:50) the why of running. For him, the focus is causes bigger than yourself, raising money for cancer through Team in Training especially with his niece losing her battle to cancer. Thanks for listening! Hope you enjoy the podcast. Share it with your friends using #RunTheRacePodcast. Please write a quick review about it too. For more info, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.

This is a topic I have been asked a TON about, and one I wasn’t comfortable speaking about for a long time-- because friends, you know I’m not a doctor, or a pediatric nutrition specialist. But despite this, what I AM is a holistic nutritionist with a ton of nutrition knowledge, a Certified Intuitive Eating counselor who LOVES teaching about the power of tuning into our intuition around food, and most importantly- a mama who cares a TON about raising healthy, intuitive kids. So in today's podcast, I am sharing with you- from my perspective, my very best tips for beginning to raise nourished, intuitive eaters. Before I even begin, I want you know right off the bat my goal here is to encourage you, NOT to make you feel bad if you’ve done some of these things- I have, I think many of us have, and it’s ok. Your kids relationship with food, just like yours, is always growing and evolving, it’s just your job to foster it. As Maya Angelou said, know better do better- and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Diet. It’s all around us. An ever-present member of our lives. Whether we want to lose weight, gain weight, get more energy, or have more focus, tweaking the diet is always the first and best place to start. For most of us, this is something that we started to do as adults. I, for one, am pretty focused on my diet, but it’s not something I gave even a second thought to until about 5 years ago. Prior to that it was fast food and mac and cheese if that’s what I was in the mood for. Today’s guest, Sanjay Raja, argues that that shift in focus needs to happen earlier, as early as baby food. Let’s find out why and get some tips for raising a healthier generation.

What should we feed our kids, and where are the root issues? Should we give our kids sweets, how do we get kids to eat their greens, and do we need a mindset shift when it comes to nutrition for kids, both at home and at school? Are all the issues we have with child obesity and concentration in school just down to a lack of education, or is it more than that? Myself and guest Jennifer Bulcock tackle this sensitive topic in support of our new video and free book on kids nutrition.
