Episode Description: Your morning smoothie might be working against you. Your intermittent fasting routine might be dysregulating your hormones. And Botox, from a Chinese medicine perspective, is freezing the very nervous system pathways that keep your skin alive. Dr. Felice Chan is back on Heal Thy Self and this time the conversation happened outside, on a walk, in a rosemary bush. Dr. Felice is a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner based in Los Angeles, and she connects dots between ancient medicine and modern biology in a way that stops you mid-sentence. This conversation covers breakfast, fasting, facial acupuncture, Botox, aging, and why everything in the body comes back to nervous system regulation and the rest and digest state. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why cold and blended foods create what Chinese medicine calls dampness in the body, how that slows metabolism and digestion, and what Dr. Felice's own smoothie habit led to after two to three months of daily use • Why most fasting research was done on men, what happens to a woman's cortisol and hormones when she skips breakfast, and the Chinese medicine case for a warm morning meal • The difference between what Botox does to the face neurologically versus what cosmetic acupuncture does, and why one freezes while the other reinvigorates Beauty from the inside out. This is what that actually looks like in practice.
Send us Fan MailCan bananas change the nutritional value of your smoothie?Bananas are often considered one of the healthiest fruits you can eat. But what happens when they're blended with berries or other foods rich in beneficial plant compounds? In this episode, Dr. Eeks talks with Professor Gunter Kuhnle, Professor of Nutrition and Food Science, about his research examining how bananas may affect the absorption of flavan-3-ols—naturally occurring compounds found in foods like berries, cocoa, tea, and apples that have been associated with cardiovascular and cognitive health.Together, they discuss: What flavan-3-ols are and why researchers study them The enzyme in bananas (polyphenol oxidase) and why it matters How the smoothie study was conducted Why the banana smoothie resulted in lower flavan-3-ol absorption than the berry-only smoothie Why this doesn't mean bananas are "bad" or that they destroy nutrients Whether other fruits may have similar effects The challenges of measuring diet and nutrient intake in nutrition research—and why nutrition studies can be difficult to interpret Common misconceptions about nutrition research and what individual studies can (and cannot) tell us Tips for building a smoothie if maximizing flavan-3-ol intake is your goal How food combinations—not just individual foods—may influence nutrition Take-home message: Bananas remain a nutritious food. This study simply suggests that if your goal is to maximize absorption of flavan-3-ols, it may matter what foods you combine together. More broadly, this episode explores why nutrition science is often more complex than headlines suggest—and why interpreting nutrition research requires careful measurement and context.Disclaimer: This episode is for educational purposes only and should not be considered medical or nutritional advice.Work with me?

Text Dr. Lenz any feedback or questions Why I Don't Recommend AG1: A Cheaper, Higher-Fiber Whole-Food Smoothie AlternativeDoctor Michael Lenz critiques AG1/greens powders as expensive, marketing-driven products ($79 for 30 servings) that rely on proprietary blends with unclear dosing, may reduce benefits compared with whole-food “food matrix” nutrition, and provide too little fiber (2 g per scoop). He argues real health comes from a whole-food, plant-based diet that can reduce inflammation and risk of chronic diseases, and offers a daily smoothie formula as a transparent, affordable alternative: water, two cups leafy greens, one cup broccoli sprouts (sulforaphane/NRF2), frozen berries and bananas (polyphenols, potassium), turmeric plus black pepper (curcumin + piperine), flax or chia (fiber/omega-3s), and lemon. He advises gradually increasing fiber to avoid GI distress, compares the smoothie (15–20 g fiber) plus overnight oats breakfast (~40 g fiber) to a common high-calorie, high-saturated-fat, low-fiber American breakfast, and urges viewers to save money and try whole foods for a week.00:00 Why I Skip AG100:43 Marketing vs Reality01:27 Three Big Problems01:47 Proprietary Blend Trap02:55 Whole Foods Absorption03:37 The Fiber Dealbreaker04:23 Real Food Solution05:20 Anti Inflammatory Smoothie05:29 Smoothie Ingredient Formula05:56 Sprouts and Sulforaphane06:31 Berries Bananas Turmeric08:16 Fiber Ramp Up Warning09:35 Cost and Fiber Comparison10:49 Breakfast vs American Meal12:24 Final Takeaways and Challenge Support the showWhen I started this podcast and YouTube Channel—and the book that came before it—I had my patients in mind. Making a smoothie requires a certain process and the order of ingredients matter. So does our relationship with Yah. Putting the right things first matters. "The steps of a good man are established by Yah."
What does a $22 smoothie have to do with your faith? More than you'd think. Brian unpacks a fascinating study on why Americans keep splurging even when the economy feels uncertain — and finds a surprisingly deep spiritual truth underneath the consumer psychology. He also reflects on Elisabeth Elliot's challenge to live with "reckless abandon for the Lord," the powerful story of Jesus restoring Peter after his denial, and what God's repeated promise to Joshua — "Do not fear, for I am with you" — means for whatever you're facing today. Plus: the Artemis II mission, a Birmingham baptism gone tragically wrong, and when to stay in a broken church (and when to go). Brian also shares a personal milestone: six months into his new role as campus pastor at Compass Church in Hinsdale, IL — and what he's learned about identity, healing, and God's faithfulness after a season of deep church hurt.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

So auch auf seinem neuen Album "No Country For Old Grim", das morgen erscheint.
This week on Two Cents Get Distracted, the biggest story in world rugby… is that Tony's getting married. That's right — the pre-wedding special is here, and we spend a fair chunk of time talking about love, life, and how on earth Tony convinced Lydia this was a good idea. Eventually — and we mean eventually — we stumble our way into some rugby after sampling some deeply questionable smoothie beers courtesy of our mate Erin. They're odd. Very odd.On the field, James Slipper cements himself as an all-time great, breaking Wyatt Crockett's Super Rugby caps record, and the Brumbies celebrate in style with a gritty, never-say-die win that looked well beyond them at one point. Proper tough footy. Elsewhere: The Reds get it done in Lautoka, while the Drua forget how to catch and Glenn Jackson nearly combusts Moana Pasifika come unstuck against the Crusaders at North Harbour The Hurricanes continue their upward trend, brushing aside a struggling Highlanders side And the rest? Rugby happened. It always does. We talk about it… sort of. Plus, the return of the world's fastest-growing game show:

(SPOILER) Your Daily Roundup covers Love Is Blind Eps #7-9 breakdown, where I think these couples are heading into the final 3 episodes, what major issues I'm seeing, where does some of this behavior come from, and throwing up from a chicken/Crystal Light smoothie. “Love Is Blind” Denver continues to give off the most unsettling vibes possible. The couples finish up their honeymoons, head back to the Mile High City and make it as clear as possible how deep their disdain for their partners goes. Against all odds, the least cursed couple seems to be Jordan – a man who downs chicken breast and Crystal Light smoothies each morning – and Normal-Amount-of-Sparkle Megan. Everything comes to a head at the western-themed wider pod mixer where conflicts explode and no one likes Nick.
