Andy v. Jon 1/2 Ironman In honor of the 133rd Army-Navy football game to be played in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this December, two of our supporters, both former military have thrown down the gauntlet to raise support for Warrior Rising in the time-honored tradition of the rivalry pitting America's Elite Military Academies and service members against one another. Andy Riise, West Point graduate and career Army officer vs. Jon Macaskill, retired Navy SEAL are training to compete in a Half Ironman 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run in Waco, TX this October 16 for the benefit of Warrior Rising. Support Warrior Rising and the entrepreneurs we serve by supporting Andy and Jon in their quest for Ironman supremacy. (links below) What is Warrior Rising primer: Founded in 2015, Warrior Rising is a non-profit started by Veterans, for Veterans. The Warrior Rising team has a singular goal: transform Veterans into Vetrepreneurs. We have achieved this through carefully selecting strategic partners in business, and leveraging a vast network of young professionals and successful entrepreneurs from a wide variety of backgrounds. The organization hosts a robust team of professionals, business owners, and experts in their fields. Since 2015 Warrior Rising has grown from a regional to a national organization with a robust outreach assisting more than 3000 veterans annually. Warrior Rising has developed sophisticated programs that leverage remote learning, built a network of mentors and coaches, and has awarded grants that will result in creating one hundred veteran-owned businesses valued at more than $1 million by 2024. The Warrior Rising team listens to veterans and provides them exactly what they need. As opposed to some non-profits, Warrior Rising doesn't give a veteran one good day… we give veterans the opportunity to earn their success and have one good life! https://www.warriorrising.org/armyvnavy2022/

Welcome to the Podcast of Southwest Bible Fellowship in Tempe, Arizona. WHO ARE WE? • We are a group of people who are committed to living the grace life as set forth by the apostle of the Gentiles, the Apostle Paul. • We come together to study our Bibles, and yes, we believe we have God's perfect Word in the King James Bible. It and it alone is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice! • We do not come together and study our Bibles for the intent of being smarter than others. We understand that knowledge for the sake of knowledge is purely vain and serves no Godly purpose. • We do come together and study our Bibles for the intent of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection. (Philippians 3:10) • We do come together and study our Bibles to understand that we have been crucified with Christ; nevertheless we live; yet not us, but Christ liveth in us: and the life which we now live in the flesh, we live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved us and gave himself for us. (Galatians 2:20) • We do come together and study our Bibles to understand that because Jesus Christ shed His blood for us and we should not live for ourselves but for Him, who died for us and rose again. (2 Cor. 5:15) • We do not claim to have attained to these lofty goals, but we press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14) You can donate to this ministry through www.butnow.org and the PayPal button on the homepage.

Little Jerry, Big Hoss and Pastor Alan continue the discussion on 1 Cor. 13.
This week on the Nonprofit Build Up, we are continuing the discussion on transitioning from concept to public charity. This episode was recorded as an episode from our Fast Build Friday series, a web-series where we quickly build what you know about infrastructure design in the nonprofit sector. In this episode, Nic shares the second of two key considerations for transitioning to public charity status. It is part two to last week's Fast Build Friday Episode 41. The second key consideration is to take the time to plan your strategy. This planning includes articulating your vision, mission, priorities, proposed activities, and other goals that you have for your organization. Trust us, the time that you take to think critically about your organization will pay off in multiples.
Little Jerry and Big Hoss talk 1 Corinthians 13, Charity, with special guest Pastor Alan Ball.
This week on the Nonprofit Build Up, we are discussing transitioning from concept to public charity. This episode was recorded as an episode from our Fast Build Friday series, a web-series where we quickly build what you know about infrastructure design in the nonprofit sector. In this episode, you will hear the first of two key considerations for transitioning to public charity status. The first consideration, which is critical, is to determine if you should, in fact, be a charitable entity. If you skip this step and go straight to assuming you should be a public charity simply because you want to have social impact, you will lose out on a lot of the vision and mission setting that is critical for building infrastructure and will likely be in an inappropriate entity, both of which will ultimately have an impact within the communities you serve.
For today's episode, we get back in touch with Bourbon Charity. But this time, we had the opportunity of connecting with Bourbon Charity's new executive director, Samantha Wilson!
It's a pretty good bet that you know more as an adult than you did as a child. Today, Pastor Gary shares that the same thing happens as you grow in your relationship with the Lord. What you need as a new believer changes as you mature in your faith. The more you walk with God, the more you'll see His loving faithfulness to you. You'll learn that you can trust His Word and bank on His promises. You won't need extra encouragement to believe what He says because He'll have already proven it over and over.
Just look around and you'll see that we could all use a little more patience. Even in your own life, there are times when it doesn't take much to frustrate you. Well, in this edition of True North, Pastor Gary invites you to take a deeper look at what the Bible says love is. You'll discover that patience is one aspect of biblical love. You'll learn that love puts up with a lot. As hard as it is sometimes, God wants you to be patient with others, just as He is patient with you. You can grow in patient love as you walk with Him.

We must begin with the distinction between hope and charity because I have hope and very little charity. Hope is the theological virtue by which we desire the kingdom of Heaven and eternal life as our happiness, placing our trust in Christ's promises and relying not on our own strength, but on the help of the Holy Spirit. Hope is the desire for one's own happiness. And since nothing in this world is perfect, lasting or enough, then our hope is the proper love of self that motivates us to do what we need to achieve perfect and lasting happiness through union with God and heaven. Hope as the desire for happiness propels us to get rid of our vice and sin which destroys union with God, and practice virtue, spend time in prayer, receive the sacraments, learn what Jesus revealed through Scripture and Tradition and so on…so that we can reach union with God. With hope I want my good, my happiness and so I stop doing the things that destroy happiness (sin) and I make a habit out of those things that bring lasting happiness. With hope I desire my own happiness. Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God. With hope I want my good, my happiness. Charity is based on wanting the good, the happiness of someone else. With Hope I say, “I want my good.” With charity I say, “I want your good.” Italians have a beautiful way of saying I love you, they say “Ti voglio bene.” I want your good. In the theological virtue of charity, we are saying to God, I love you; I want your good; I want to do something to make you happy O Lord. I am good about desiring and striving after my own happiness. I am bad at charity. I rarely think of doing something just for the good or the happiness of God. Since I don't think about the love of God as much as I should maybe we should begin with basics. The first way we can love God is by keeping the commandments. Jesus said If you love me you will keep my commandments. John 14:15 But Jesus knows the 10 are just an outline of the complexity of life so he went on to say in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:21) It is pretty easy to keep the broad strokes of the 10 Commandments. How are we doing on the finer points? Are we loving God when it comes to pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, lust, gossip, judgmental thoughts and words, what we consider small lies, drunkenness, pornography? If we want to be clear on how to love God, we should read paragraphs 2083-2557 of the CCC. In 1 Cor 13:4 Paul gives us a good short list of what we should do to love God: Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. You are God's chosen race, his saints; he loves you, and you should be clothed in sincere compassion, in kindness and humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with one another; forgive each other as soon as a quarrel begins. The Lord has forgiven you; now you must do the same. Over all these…, to keep them together and complete them, put on love. And may the peace of Christ reign in your hearts, because it is for this that you were called together as parts of one body. Always be thankful. (Galatians 3:12)
Thank you to everyone that helped us raise 122K for Modest Needs!
Rom 14:5-12 "One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself.8 If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God." 1. We are called to judge ourselves. (vs.5,6) • Rom 14:5-6 – One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. • Acts 23:1 – And looking intently at the council, Paul said, “Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day.” • James 4:13-14 – 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit” • 1 Cor 8:8-13 – 9 But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11 And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12 Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble. • Heb 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 2. We are called to establish Christ as Lord in all things. (v.6-9,11) • Rom 14:7-9, 11 – 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself.8 If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” • Mark 2:27-28 – 27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.” • Phil 2:9-11 – Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. • Eph 6:5-9 – Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. 9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him. 3. We are called to remember that God is the ultimate judge of all things. (vs.10,12) • Rom 14:10,12 – Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. • John 5:24 – Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. • Rom 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. • 1 Cor 3:12-15 – Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. • 1 Cor 4:3-6 – But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. 4 I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God. 6 I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.
Romans 14:1-4 Ps 133 – "Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! 3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore 1. What was the problem? • The early church was constantly concerned about the unity among the diversity of the church. • Rom 14:2,5 – 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables; 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. • 1 Cor 1:10-11 – I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. • John 17:20-21 – “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me • Eph 4:3-6 – 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all • Rom 12:16 – Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be conceited. 2. Who did the problem center around? • Rom 14:6 – The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 3. How were they to do deal with the problem a. We are not to despise or pass judgment on disputable matters and opinions. (v.1) • 1 Cor 5:12-13 – For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.” • John 7:23 – Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment • John Stott—on the word “Proslambano” – “Accept means more than to accept people in the sense of acquiescing in their existence, even in their right to belong; more even than to receive or accept in one's society, into one's home or circle of acquaintances. It means to welcome into one's fellowship and into one's heart. It implies the warmth and kindness of genuine love. Thus it is used in the New Testament of Philemon giving to Onesimus the same welcome that he would give to the apostle…” 4. Why we need to accept each other a. Because Christ has received them. (v3) • Rom 15:7 – Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. • Philem. 12,17 – 12 I am sending him back to you, sending my very heart. … 17 So if you consider me your partner, receive him as you would receive me. • Zechariah 2:8 – For thus said the Lord of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye: • Isa 49:15-16 – “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. 16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. b. Ultimately they will have to give account to God for their own actions. (vs.3,4) • Rom 14:4 – Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
